Reflection Template For Death and Taxes
For each loss, name one primary cause and one secondary cause. For each win, name the card, package, or tactical policy that most contributed to the win. Classify each result as a card quantity problem, card selection problem, mana problem, tempo problem, matchup problem, sideboard problem, pilot sequencing problem, or closing-power problem. Report mana performance, sideboard impact, stranded cards, overperforming cards, underperforming cards, and whether the Deck Strategy or Tactical Policy guidance was followed.
-
Deciding factor: identify whether the game was won or lost by mana denial, early tax pressure, blink value, equipment pressure, removal timing, sideboard hate, or failure to close after stabilization.
-
Mulligan quality: record whether the opener had a castable early play from Aether Vial, Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, Stoneforge Mystic, Swords to Plowshares, or Disruptor Flute, and whether white mana was reliable enough for the hand kept.
-
Mana development: check whether Wasteland, Ghost Quarter, Karakas, Flagstones of Trokair, Eiganjo, Seat of the Empire, Meticulous Archive, and Plains sequencing preserved white sources while still denying the opponent's key land or color.
-
Velocity: ask whether the deck spent turns affecting the board or stack, or whether hands with Meteor Sword, Pre-War Formalwear, Recruiter of the Guard, Flickerwisp, and Yorion, Sky Nomad became too slow before a body or Aether Vial was active.
-
Engine performance: record whether Phelia, Exuberant Shepherd and Flickerwisp generated material value from Recruiter of the Guard, Stoneforge Mystic, Skyclave Apparition, Witch Enchanter, or White Orchid Phantom, or whether blink targets were missing.
-
Removal discipline: verify whether Swords to Plowshares, Solitude, Skyclave Apparition, Witch Enchanter, Erode, and Wrath of the Skies were aimed at the threat or engine that actually determined the race.
-
Hate-piece timing: evaluate whether Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, Disruptor Flute, Deafening Silence, Grafdigger's Cage, Containment Priest, Faerie Macabre, Surgical Extraction, and Mindbreak Trap were deployed before the relevant opponent line became legal.
-
Closing speed: record whether small creatures, equipment, Lion Sash, Canoptek Scarab Swarm, Meteor Sword, Pre-War Formalwear, or Yorion, Sky Nomad converted disruption into lethal pressure before the opponent recovered.
-
Role accuracy: ask whether the pilot correctly became the aggressor after mana denial or correctly became the control deck when multiple opposing threats were visible.
-
Mistake review: flag any turn where the pilot used a flexible answer before a narrow answer, tapped white mana before needing Swords to Plowshares, exposed a key creature unnecessarily, or spent a land-denial action while behind on board.
-
Stranded cards: note every game where Disruptor Flute, Stoneforge Mystic equipment, Pre-War Formalwear, Meteor Sword, Wrath of the Skies, Faerie Macabre, Surgical Extraction, or Mindbreak Trap stayed in hand without a legal or relevant use.
-
Overperformers and underperformers: list which exact cards changed the game state most, which cards were low impact, and whether that pattern repeated across pre-board and post-board games.
