Reflection Template For Grumgully, the Generous

For each loss, name one primary cause and one secondary cause. For each win, name the card, package, or tactical policy that most contributed to the win. Classify each result as a card quantity problem, card selection problem, mana problem, tempo problem, matchup problem, sideboard problem, pilot sequencing problem, or closing-power problem. Report mana performance, sideboard impact, stranded cards, overperforming cards, underperforming cards, and whether the Deck Strategy or Tactical Policy guidance was followed.

  • Deciding factor: After each game, identify whether the result was decided by early mana, commander timing, counter scaling, trample/haste access, protection timing, or inability to answer a visible permanent. Tie the answer to exact cards such as Grumgully, the Generous, Hardened Scales, Ozolith, the Shattered Spire, Rhythm of the Wild, Khenra Charioteer, Embercleave, Cankerbloom, Heroic Intervention, or Inspiring Call.

  • Mulligans: Record whether the opening hand had green mana, red mana, an early accelerator, and a meaningful payoff. Flag hands that kept Birds of Paradise, Elvish Mystic, Llanowar Elves, Delighted Halfling, Utopia Sprawl, or Gala Greeters without enough payoff, and hands that kept God-Eternal Rhonas, Ilharg, the Raze-Boar, Gruff Triplets, Quartzwood Crasher, or Embercleave without enough setup.

  • Mana: Check whether losses involved missed colors, too many tapped lands, awkward fetch timing, or commander-tax pressure. Review Castle Garenbrig, Cragcrown Pathway, Cinder Glade, Commercial District, Game Trail, Rootbound Crag, Stomping Ground, Copperline Gorge, and fetch lands for whether they enabled the actual legal turn sequence.

  • Velocity: Ask whether the deck spent turns improving the board or only preparing to improve it later. Mark slow starts where Thirsting Roots, Pollenbright Druid, Evolution Sage, Bloom Hulk, Volt Charge, Adaptive Sporesinger, or Karn's Bastion were low impact because no countered permanents or relevant loyalty objects were visible.

  • Engines: Track whether Grumgully, the Generous entered before the key non-Human creature chain or after the board was already under pressure. Note if Hardened Scales, Ozolith, the Shattered Spire, Rishkar, Peema Renegade, Defiler of Vigor, Scute Swarm, Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin, Legion Warboss, or Ranger Class actually compounded advantage.

  • Removal and protection: Review every Cankerbloom, Domri, Anarch of Bolas, Inscription of Abundance, Heroic Intervention, and Inspiring Call decision against visible legal targets and stack actions. Record whether protection was held for a high-value board, spent too early, or stranded because the deck lacked pressure.

  • Closing: Identify whether stalled games lacked trample, haste, evasion, or one-turn damage. Check whether Kodama of the West Tree, Khenra Charioteer, Garruk's Uprising, Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma, God-Eternal Rhonas, Quartzwood Crasher, Thundering Raiju, Goro-Goro, Disciple of Ryusei, Invigorating Hot Spring, Rhythm of the Wild, or Embercleave was drawn, cast, delayed, or answered.

  • Role discipline: Record whether the pilot correctly shifted between survival, pressure, and threat-diversification. Against fast decks, mark any slow Karn's Bastion, In Search of Greatness, or proliferate line that ignored lethal pressure; against control, mark any overcommitment without Heroic Intervention or Inspiring Call.

  • Mistakes: Log each decision where Veles chose a legal action but the reason contradicted visible board state, commander access, known revealed information, or rules-engine output. Separate strategy mistakes from legality limits or card text uncertainty.

  • Stranded cards and performers: List cards stranded in hand, cards repeatedly decisive, and cards repeatedly low impact. Card text check required before tuning around Sazh Katzroy, Tannuk, Steadfast Second, Artillery Enthusiast, Wandertale Mentor, Tender Wildguide, Adaptive Sporesinger, Scythecat Cub, and Enduring Courage.

  • No-sideboard check: Because the registered sideboard has zero cards, record whether post-game adaptation needed nonexistent sideboard tools. Treat this as a construction concern, not a runtime sideboard instruction.
