Deck Name And Archetype

  • Identity: Boros Tokens is a red-white Standard aggro-midrange tokens deck built to convert many small creatures and token makers into damage while retaining enough interaction and sideboard flexibility to play longer games when the opponent contests the battlefield.
  • Registration validation: Main deck totals 60 cards and sideboard totals 15 cards. The main deck contains 23 clear land slots if Dalkovan Encampment and Fountainport are treated as lands, plus 3 Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery entries that require card-type and rules-text confirmation before mana counting. The sideboard is exactly 15 cards: 2 Erode; 2 Requisition Raid; 1 Goddric, Cloaked Reveler; 3 Hexing Squelcher; 3 Rest in Peace; 2 Sunspine Lynx; 1 Delney, Streetwise Lookout; 1 Dawn's Truce.
  • Format validation: Format is Standard, but Veles should treat current Standard legality as requiring authoritative runtime validation before sanctioned testing. The list contains cards from multiple recent Standard-era sets and at least one historically older land name, Sundown Pass, so legality certainty must come from the rules engine or card database rather than guide memory.
  • Tags validation: Normalize the supplied duplicated tags to aggro, midrange, tokens. Runtime routing should prioritize aggro/tokens heuristics in Game 1, then shift toward midrange only when visible removal, sweepers, blockers, or lifegain make pure racing unsafe.
  • Stock status: Treat the list as hybrid/rogue unless an external metagame profile identifies this exact 75 as stock. Warleader's Call, Song of Totentanz, Voice of Victory, Hired Claw, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, and Stadium Headliner imply a recognizable Boros go-wide shell, while 1 Erode main, 2 Seam Rip, 2 Howlsquad Heavy, 2 Shocking Sharpshooter, 1 Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might, 3 Dalkovan Encampment, 2 Fountainport, and 3 Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery imply local tuning that must be piloted from exact legal actions instead of generic archetype assumptions.
  • Card-text caution: Card text check required for Frontline Rush, Voice of Victory, Hired Claw, Erode, Seam Rip, Howlsquad Heavy, Shocking Sharpshooter, Stadium Headliner, Dalkovan Encampment, Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery, Hexing Squelcher, and Dawn's Truce before this guide assigns deterministic rules text. Use tactical recommendations for those cards only when the engine exposes legal actions whose labels confirm the relevant mode, target, cost, or timing.
  • Mana concern: The deck is red-leaning but must reliably cast white cards and red-white payoffs, so opening hands should be judged by visible colored sources and early spell sequence rather than land count alone. Hands with Mountain-heavy mana need a clear red-only curve or a known path to white before relying on Warleader's Call, Voice of Victory, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, or sideboard cards like Requisition Raid, Rest in Peace, Delney, Streetwise Lookout, and Dawn's Truce.
  • Role concern: The default role is proactive pressure, but the agent must not jam every legal spell if holding interaction, preserving post-sweeper pressure, or sequencing a payoff first is better from visible state. The deck can win by early creature damage, amplified token damage, burn-like noncombat damage if Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might or Warleader's Call legally supports it, and sideboard pivots through Rest in Peace, Sunspine Lynx, Hexing Squelcher, Requisition Raid, Goddric, Cloaked Reveler, Delney, Streetwise Lookout, or Dawn's Truce when the opponent's public plan calls for it.
  • Opponent information status: No opponent deck, matchup label, play/draw status, or known metagame is supplied. Game 1 decisions should use unknown-opponent heuristics and only upgrade to specific matchup guidance when Veles exposes public evidence such as colors, permanent types, graveyard dependence, sweepers, lifegain, counterspells, artifact/enchantment reliance, or fast creature pressure.

Thesis

  • Assemble pressure before perfection: Boros Tokens wants an early red-white board, then converts creature quantity into amplified damage through Warleader's Call, Frontline Rush, Song of Totentanz, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Stadium Headliner, and any legal token or damage triggers the engine exposes at runtime.
  • Win by forcing bad blocks: prioritize lines that put multiple bodies on the battlefield, make attacks awkward, and punish opponents who spend one-for-one removal while the deck still has another token maker, payoff, or manland-style resource available.
  • Protect tempo over card pride: a single expensive or flashy card is less important than keeping the turn sequence active, so the agent should favor castable threats, payoff-before-token sequencing when safe, and interaction only when it changes the race or prevents a stabilizing permanent.
  • Do not play as hard control: this deck is not trying to answer everything, hold up mana every turn, or win by inevitability from an empty battlefield. Passes are suspicious when legal actions can add pressure, enable Warleader's Call, widen attacks, or remove the blocker that currently controls combat.
  • Do not assume hidden weakness: choose attacks, removal, and sideboard plans from legal actions, visible board state, public graveyards, revealed cards, stack objects, and engine output. Do not name an unseen sweeper, counterspell, or combat trick as certain unless public information proves it.
  • Prioritize white access without abandoning red pressure: Mountain-heavy hands can function only when the visible curve is red enough; hands relying on Warleader's Call, Voice of Victory, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Requisition Raid, Rest in Peace, Delney, Streetwise Lookout, or Dawn's Truce need confirmed white mana or a clear path to it.
  • Treat uncertain text as conditional: Card text check required for Frontline Rush, Voice of Victory, Hired Claw, Erode, Seam Rip, Howlsquad Heavy, Shocking Sharpshooter, Stadium Headliner, Dalkovan Encampment, Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery, Hexing Squelcher, and Dawn's Truce. Use those cards according to legal action labels and visible effects, not memory.

Role Package

  • Threats: Hired Claw, Voice of Victory, Stadium Headliner, Howlsquad Heavy, Shocking Sharpshooter, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Song of Totentanz tokens, Goddric, Cloaked Reveler, Sunspine Lynx, and Delney, Streetwise Lookout are pressure pieces. Deploy threats when they advance clock, widen combat, or force removal before payoffs; avoid overcommitting only when visible sweepers, temporary shields, or known mass removal make holding a follow-up materially better.
  • Payoffs: Warleader's Call is the central build-around payoff, while Frontline Rush, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Stadium Headliner, Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might, Goddric, Cloaked Reveler, Delney, Streetwise Lookout, and Sunspine Lynx are payoff or damage-conversion cards when legal text supports that role. Sequence payoffs before mass token creation when mana and board safety allow; make tokens first only when the payoff is unavailable, unsafe, or unnecessary for lethal pressure.
  • Engines: Song of Totentanz, Warleader's Call, Dalkovan Encampment, Fountainport, and Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery are the likely repeatable or scalable pressure sources. Card text check required for Dalkovan Encampment and Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery; use their activated or transformed roles only when the rules engine exposes legal actions and costs.
  • Velocity: Frontline Rush, Song of Totentanz, Stadium Headliner, Fountainport, and Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery are the practical velocity package if their legal actions create multiple bodies, cards, damage, or mana sinks. Prefer velocity when the hand risks running out of threats or when the opponent has already traded resources; prefer direct pressure when the opponent is close to dead.
  • Interaction: Erode, Seam Rip, Shocking Sharpshooter, Requisition Raid, Hexing Squelcher, Sunspine Lynx, and Dawn's Truce are the interaction or disruption module when their legal modes apply. Spend removal on blockers, engines, lifegain, combo pieces, or lethal threats; do not fire interaction at low-impact targets merely because mana is available.
  • Protection: Dawn's Truce is the explicit sideboard protection card, and Voice of Victory may function as protection or anti-interaction only if legal text confirms that role. Hold protection for sweepers, lethal combat, removal aimed at a key payoff, or a turn where protecting the board preserves lethal pressure.
  • Recursion: The registered 75 has no clear graveyard-recursion plan from names alone. Rest in Peace is anti-recursion, not a self-recursion engine; avoid lines that depend on reusing graveyard cards unless the engine exposes a legal action proving that capability.
  • Mana: Mountain, Inspiring Vantage, Dalkovan Encampment, Fountainport, Sundown Pass, Sacred Foundry, and possibly Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery form the mana module. Prioritize untapped red for early pressure, white for Warleader's Call and sideboard cards, and color stability before optional utility activations.
  • Sideboard modules: Rest in Peace attacks graveyard plans; Requisition Raid and Erode attack artifacts, enchantments, or other legal targets when confirmed; Hexing Squelcher is a disruption package requiring card text check; Sunspine Lynx adds pressure or matchup-specific punishment when text confirms; Goddric, Cloaked Reveler and Delney, Streetwise Lookout add threat/payoff density; Dawn's Truce protects the board or life total when the engine exposes the relevant legal action.

Primary Win Conditions

  • Warleader's Call plus creature quantity is the default kill path: set up red-white mana, at least one early body from Hired Claw, Voice of Victory, Stadium Headliner, or a legal token source, then convert each later creature or token into immediate damage pressure if the rules engine exposes that trigger. Prioritize this path when the opponent is trading one-for-one, when combat is stalled by a few blockers, or when Song of Totentanz, Frontline Rush, Fountainport, Dalkovan Encampment, or Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery can add multiple bodies after Warleader's Call is already present.
  • Song of Totentanz is the main burst path: preserve it until the visible mana, board, and payoff state make the generated bodies matter immediately, especially with Warleader's Call, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Stadium Headliner, or Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might already visible. Use smaller Song of Totentanz lines when they produce lethal, force blocks that preserve the wider board, or rebuild after removal; avoid spending the largest legal Song of Totentanz into visible sweep protection, known damage prevention, or a board where the resulting tokens cannot attack or trigger relevant payoffs.
  • Frontline Rush is the attack-conversion path if legal text confirms pump, token, or combat-damage scaling. Use it when the engine shows an attack step where several creatures can connect, when blockers are removed by Seam Rip, Erode, or Shocking Sharpshooter, or when the opponent's life total can be pushed into burn range. Card text check required; do not assume Frontline Rush is lethal unless legal action labels, visible modifiers, and combat math support it.
  • Arabella, Abandoned Doll plus wide attacks is a primary pressure path when Arabella's visible text or engine events reward attacking with multiple creatures. Protect or sequence Arabella before token bursts when the opponent is light on visible removal; deploy bodies before Arabella when the board is empty and immediate pressure matters more than maximizing triggers.
  • Stadium Headliner is a primary snowball card when its legal actions or triggered output improve creature damage, token pressure, or board scaling. Prioritize Stadium Headliner on curve against slower decks, after Voice of Victory if interaction is likely, or before a planned Song of Totentanz turn when it clearly increases damage or board size.
  • Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might is the high-ceiling damage amplifier: commit it when noncombat damage from Warleader's Call, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Song of Totentanz, Shocking Sharpshooter, or other legal effects is visible and likely to matter before the opponent untaps. Do not tap out for Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might merely as a large creature if the current board already wins by attacking or if a visible answer makes the commitment low impact.

Secondary Win Conditions

  • Hired Claw, Voice of Victory, Howlsquad Heavy, Shocking Sharpshooter, and Stadium Headliner can win as ordinary creature pressure when payoffs are absent. Curve out, attack when trades preserve or improve the clock, and use interaction on blockers or lifegain pieces rather than saving removal for hypothetical hidden threats.
  • Voice of Victory is a backup anti-interaction or sticky-threat plan only when legal text confirms that role. Prioritize it before Warleader's Call, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, or Song of Totentanz against opponents representing instant-speed removal, counterplay, or sweepers through public information.
  • Fountainport, Dalkovan Encampment, and Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery are fallback mana-sink or land-resource pressure lines when the game slows. Activate or transform only when the engine exposes legal actions and the action adds a body, damage, card flow, or an attacker without sacrificing a stronger spell for the turn.
  • Seam Rip, Erode, and Shocking Sharpshooter support a removal-tempo win by clearing one key blocker, disrupting an engine permanent, or finishing a damaged opponent. Spend these cards when the cleared path creates a meaningful attack now or prevents the opponent from stabilizing next turn.
  • Howlsquad Heavy is a secondary top-end pressure card if its legal text makes it a large attacker, token payoff, or combat stabilizer. Use it when the board needs a durable body or when smaller tokens are blanked; prefer cheaper multi-spell pressure when the opponent is close to dead.
  • Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery can be treated as an engine or transformed fallback only from visible legal actions. Do not rely on the back face as inevitability unless Veles shows the transform, activation, or resulting effect as legal and tactically relevant.

Emergency Lines

  • Behind on life, shift from maximum damage to survival-first attacks and blocks: preserve enough blockers to survive the visible next attack, then use Seam Rip, Erode, Shocking Sharpshooter, or Dawn's Truce after sideboarding only on threats or effects that change lethal math.
  • Behind on board, rebuild with the widest legal source first when it does not expose lethal on the crackback. Song of Totentanz, Frontline Rush, Fountainport, Dalkovan Encampment, and Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery are recovery tools only if legal text creates bodies or tempo; otherwise cast the best blocker or removal spell shown by the engine.
  • Behind on cards, favor repeatable or multi-body resources over one-for-one trades. Warleader's Call, Stadium Headliner, Fountainport, Dalkovan Encampment, Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery, and Song of Totentanz are higher priority than trading Hired Claw for a low-impact creature unless the trade prevents lethal.
  • Behind on mana, keep actions cheap and color-secure. Cast Hired Claw, Voice of Victory, Stadium Headliner, Seam Rip, or Shocking Sharpshooter when legal and impactful; do not hold a hand around Warleader's Call, Howlsquad Heavy, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, or Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might if the required colored mana is not visible.
  • Behind against graveyard recursion, use Rest in Peace after sideboarding as the emergency plan when the opponent's public graveyard or known cards prove recursion dependence. Do not weaken pressure for graveyard hate against an opponent whose graveyard is not currently relevant.
  • Behind against combo or engines, pivot interaction toward the visible engine piece instead of face damage. Erode, Requisition Raid, Hexing Squelcher, Sunspine Lynx, and Seam Rip after sideboarding should answer legal targets that stop the opponent's deterministic progress or restore the race.
  • Removed win conditions do not end the plan: if Warleader's Call, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, or Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might is gone, win with creature density, Stadium Headliner pressure, Song of Totentanz bursts, and utility-land actions rather than waiting for a replacement payoff.

Resource Model

  • Life is a tempo currency, not a hoard: spend life from Sacred Foundry or combat races when it preserves an untapped curve into Hired Claw, Voice of Victory, Stadium Headliner, Warleader's Call, Song of Totentanz, or Arabella, Abandoned Doll. Stop spending life when the visible opposing board creates a two-turn clock or when Dawn's Truce, Sunspine Lynx, or removal after sideboarding is needed to survive instead of race.
  • Hand resources should become battlefield pressure before the opponent stabilizes. Keep one high-impact follow-up when public information suggests sweepers or mass removal, but do not strand cheap spells in hand while Warleader's Call, Stadium Headliner, or Arabella, Abandoned Doll would turn bodies into damage.
  • Mana is the deck's main bottleneck because several payoffs ask for colored sequencing across red, white, and utility lands. Prioritize legal lines that use all available mana while preserving required colors for the current turn's strongest spell; avoid activating Fountainport or Dalkovan Encampment if that prevents casting a visible payoff or removal spell.
  • Board width is the primary convertible resource. Song of Totentanz, Frontline Rush, Fountainport, Dalkovan Encampment, and Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery should be evaluated by how many bodies, attack triggers, damage triggers, or blockers they create from visible legal text; Card text check required for Frontline Rush, Dalkovan Encampment, and Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery.
  • Individual creatures are expendable only when the resulting damage, blocker removal, card flow, or survival is visible. Trade Hired Claw, tokens, or small attackers for blockers when it keeps the attack wide or protects life total, but preserve unique payoff creatures such as Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might, and Delney, Streetwise Lookout when their visible text is the current engine.
  • Graveyard is normally spent history for this deck, so Rest in Peace usually costs less here than against graveyard decks. Do not assume the graveyard is irrelevant if the engine shows flashback, recursion, death triggers, or Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery text using it; Card text check required.
  • Exile is mostly a public-information zone unless a legal action grants play permission or a sideboard card changes it. Respect engine output for exiled cards, Rest in Peace replacement effects, and any temporary permission from visible actions; do not plan around exiled cards returning unless a legal action says so.
  • Lands are both mana and late-game action sources. Fountainport and Dalkovan Encampment can convert excess mana into bodies, cards, or pressure only when Veles exposes those actions; choose land activations after confirming no better spell, removal, or combat trick is available.
  • Sacrifice fodder is valuable only after a legal outlet exists. Tokens from Song of Totentanz or Fountainport can be spent on Fountainport, removal costs, or other visible actions if the exchange draws a card, removes a blocker, prevents lethal, or protects a payoff; never sacrifice a key payoff for generic value without engine-proven upside.
  • Tempo is created by curving threats before engines and using Seam Rip, Erode, and Shocking Sharpshooter to clear the turn's blocker or disrupt the opponent's stabilizer. Prefer the line that changes the next combat step unless the opponent's public engine threatens to outscale combat immediately.
  • Information is a resource for commitment timing. Use revealed hands, public graveyards, tapped lands, known removal, visible stack objects, and previous logged decisions to decide whether to deploy Warleader's Call, Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might, or a large Song of Totentanz now; do not infer exact hidden cards from archetype alone.
  • Sideboard bullets trade speed for precision. Erode, Requisition Raid, Hexing Squelcher, Rest in Peace, Sunspine Lynx, Delney, Streetwise Lookout, Goddric, Cloaked Reveler, and Dawn's Truce should be valued by the public target or matchup role they answer; Card text check required for Hexing Squelcher and Sunspine Lynx.

Mana Guide

  • Keep hands need early red plus credible white access. A strong opener usually has two or three lands, at least one untapped red source, and white access for Voice of Victory, Warleader's Call, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Rest in Peace, Requisition Raid, Dawn's Truce, or Delney, Streetwise Lookout when those cards are in hand.
  • Mulligan most zero-land, one-land, and color-locked hands. A one-land hand is acceptable only when the engine shows legal cheap plays, the land casts them, the hand has multiple early actions, and the matchup does not punish a missed second land; otherwise ship it.
  • Sequence untapped colored sources before utility lands when a spell is waiting. Inspiring Vantage and Sacred Foundry should cover early red-white needs; Sundown Pass should be timed for turns where its visible entry condition does not skip a key play; Mountain is safest when the hand is red-heavy.
  • Use Sacred Foundry's untapped option when the life payment enables a critical curve turn. Take the tapped option when the hand has no same-turn play, life is under pressure, or another untapped source already casts the necessary spell.
  • Delay Fountainport and Dalkovan Encampment until colored requirements are secure. Play them early only when the rest of the hand already casts Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, Seam Rip, Shocking Sharpshooter, Warleader's Call, Voice of Victory, or Song of Totentanz on time.
  • Cast cheap spells before utility activations unless the activation is the only legal way to affect combat or survival. Fountainport and Dalkovan Encampment are strongest after the hand is partially deployed or when flooding; they are weak if they cause Warleader's Call or Arabella, Abandoned Doll to wait.
  • Play land before combat when it unlocks an attack modifier, removal spell, Song of Totentanz size, Frontline Rush, or post-block interaction shown by Veles. Hold land until after draw or selection only when no current action needs the mana and a visible card-flow action could change which land is best.
  • Play land before a draw action if the draw action requires mana from that land or if missing a land drop would waste mana this turn. Hold a redundant land before Fountainport card-flow or other visible selection only when all current spells remain castable and the extra information may improve land sequencing.
  • Preserve double-red planning for Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might and large red turns. Do not over-prioritize white utility if the current hand's payoff chain is Song of Totentanz, Shocking Sharpshooter, Stadium Headliner, Erode, or Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might.
  • Preserve white planning after sideboarding when hate cards matter. Rest in Peace, Requisition Raid, Dawn's Truce, Delney, Streetwise Lookout, and Warleader's Call require white access to be real resources, so do not keep a Mountain-heavy hand against graveyard, artifact, enchantment, or protection matchups unless the red curve is already strong.

Mulligan Guide

  • Strong keep: keep two- or three-land hands with untapped red, white access, and two early actions such as Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, Voice of Victory, Warleader's Call, Song of Totentanz, Seam Rip, or Shocking Sharpshooter. These hands can curve threat into payoff, convert spare mana into pressure, and still respect Veles legal actions if removal or combat timing changes.
  • Strong keep: keep Inspiring Vantage plus Mountain or Sacred Foundry hands that cast Hired Claw or Stadium Headliner on turn 1 or 2 and follow with Warleader's Call, Voice of Victory, or Song of Totentanz. Prefer these over hands with more total power but delayed colors.
  • Medium keep: keep three-land hands with Warleader's Call plus multiple token makers or cheap creatures, even without removal, when the first two turns contain legal plays. These hands become strong if Fountainport or Dalkovan Encampment is the fourth land rather than one of the first two colored sources.
  • Medium keep: keep two-land hands with Song of Totentanz and Frontline Rush only if at least one early creature or token action is present. Card text check required for Frontline Rush, so do not keep a hand that depends on it being a specific pump, token, or combat trick effect.
  • Risky keep: keep one-land hands only on the draw with an untapped red source, at least two legal one- or two-mana plays, and no need for immediate white. Ship one-land hands containing Warleader's Call, Voice of Victory, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, or sideboard white cards unless Veles confirms the land casts the hand's first actions.
  • Automatic ship: ship zero-land, five-plus-land no-engine, color-locked Mountain-only white hands, and utility-land-heavy hands where Fountainport or Dalkovan Encampment prevents turn-2 action. Also ship hands whose only pressure is Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might or Howlsquad Heavy with no early board.
  • Matchup-dependent keep: keep Erode, Seam Rip, or Shocking Sharpshooter hands higher when the opponent's public archetype or Game 1 evidence shows early creatures, artifacts, enchantments, or must-kill blockers. Card text check required for Erode, Seam Rip, and Shocking Sharpshooter targeting details, so rely on runtime legal actions before planning a specific answer.
  • Play/draw rule: on the play, keep lower-curve hands that start Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, or Voice of Victory; on the draw, accept slightly slower hands with Warleader's Call plus removal because the extra card helps hit the third land. Do not keep a slow draw hand against visible fast aggro unless it has early interaction.
  • Trap hand: do not keep double Warleader's Call plus lands with no creatures or token maker. The payoff needs bodies, and a hand that waits until turn 3 or 4 to affect the board gives up the deck's main pressure axis.
  • Trap hand: do not keep Song of Totentanz plus only Fountainport, Dalkovan Encampment, and Sundown Pass if the first legal red action is delayed. The card can be a finisher, but it is weak as the only early plan.

Turn Arc

  • Turn 1: prioritize an untapped red source into Hired Claw or any legal one-mana pressure action shown by Veles. If no one-drop is available, play the land that preserves turn-2 white-red access, usually Inspiring Vantage or Sacred Foundry before Fountainport or Dalkovan Encampment.
  • Turn 1 deviation: choose tapped Sacred Foundry or slower Sundown Pass only when no same-turn play exists and the hand still casts turn-2 action. Do not spend life for untapped Sacred Foundry without a legal spell, removal hold, or sequencing benefit.
  • Turn 2: deploy the best board-building permanent before holding reactive mana unless the opponent already presents a must-answer public threat. Voice of Victory, Stadium Headliner, Hired Claw plus another cheap action, or a small Song of Totentanz are preferred when they create immediate attack pressure.
  • Turn 2 deviation: cast Seam Rip, Erode, or Shocking Sharpshooter when it clears the only blocker, stops a snowballing permanent, or prevents a stronger opponent turn. If the engine exposes no legal target, continue developing creatures or mana instead of planning around imagined interaction.
  • Turn 3: cast Warleader's Call before making multiple bodies when the board already has creatures or the hand contains Song of Totentanz, Fountainport production, or other visible token actions. If Warleader's Call is absent, curve Voice of Victory, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Howlsquad Heavy, or removal plus attack according to legal board state.
  • Turn 3 deviation: delay Warleader's Call when the opponent can punish a no-blocker turn or when removal must be used before combat. Preserve Arabella, Abandoned Doll and Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might when their visible text is the current payoff, but do not skip lethal or survival interaction to protect a future engine.
  • Turns 4-5: convert width into damage with Warleader's Call, Song of Totentanz, Frontline Rush, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, and clean attacks. Choose removal before attacks when it changes blocks; choose token production before attacks when the new bodies legally attack or trigger visible payoff text.
  • Turns 4-5 deviation: use Fountainport or Dalkovan Encampment only after colored spell needs are satisfied or when the activation is the strongest legal action. Card text check required for Dalkovan Encampment and Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery, so select those actions from visible legal text rather than assumed mode value.
  • Late game: prioritize topdeck conversion over holding perfect curves. Large Song of Totentanz, Fountainport actions, Dalkovan Encampment actions, Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery, Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might, and repeated attack triggers are the main ways to beat sweepers or stalled boards.
  • Late game deviation: become defensive when life total or visible attackers make racing impossible. Keep tokens or small creatures back only when they can legally block, trade, or buy a turn; Song of Totentanz tokens may have blocking restrictions, so verify runtime card text and legal blocks before relying on them.

Card Roles

  • Frontline Rush: use Frontline Rush as a damage-conversion card only when Veles shows legal action text and the visible combat math rewards committing it. Card text check required, so do not assume it creates tokens, pumps the team, grants haste, or removes blockers unless the rules engine exposes that effect. Cast or hold it according to its visible timing: if it is an attack-enhancer, prefer the turn where multiple creatures or tokens are already attacking; if it is removal or temporary interaction, spend it when it clears the blocker that changes the attack from chip damage into a major life-total swing. Avoid keeping hands that depend on Frontline Rush as the only early play.
  • Warleader's Call: treat Warleader's Call as the deck's central engine payoff and cast it before making multiple bodies whenever the current board can survive the tempo cost. Its known role is to reward creature entry and make small attackers matter, so the strongest sequencing is Warleader's Call into Song of Totentanz, Fountainport production, Dalkovan Encampment production, or any legal multi-body action. Do not cast a second Warleader's Call into open pressure if the first copy plus bodies already threatens lethal and a creature, removal spell, or activation would affect the board now. Against sweepers, one Warleader's Call is often enough; force the opponent to answer the board before committing redundant copies.
  • Song of Totentanz: use Song of Totentanz as both a scalable board maker and a finisher, with X chosen from visible mana, available payoff permanents, and expected combat. Card text check required for exact token stats and restrictions, so rely on Veles for whether the created creatures can attack, block, or survive. With Warleader's Call on board, prioritize Song of Totentanz after the enchantment because each entering body may convert into immediate damage or pressure. Without Warleader's Call, cast a small Song only when it fills the curve, enables Arabella, Abandoned Doll, pressures planeswalkers, or creates enough bodies to punish one-for-one removal; otherwise save it for a larger late-game burst.
  • Hired Claw: deploy Hired Claw early as the preferred low-curve pressure piece when red mana is available. Card text check required for exact combat abilities, but its role in this shell is to begin attacking before Warleader's Call, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, and Frontline Rush turn bodies into damage. Trade Hired Claw readily when trading preserves life against faster aggro or clears the way for wider future attacks; preserve it when a visible payoff rewards having an extra attacker or creature entering later. Do not hold Hired Claw for perfect synergy if the alternative is passing turn 1 or turn 2 without pressure.
  • Voice of Victory: cast Voice of Victory as a premium early creature when the matchup involves interaction, racing, or board stalls. Card text check required for the exact disruptive or token-related text, but treat it as a high-value body that can make combat and opponent timing awkward when Veles shows relevant legal text. Sequence Voice of Victory before Warleader's Call only when curving out matters or when the opponent is likely to interact before the enchantment pays off; sequence Warleader's Call first when Voice of Victory entering will immediately trigger a visible payoff and the board is not under urgent attack. Avoid attacking Voice of Victory into a free trade if its static or triggered text is currently protecting the rest of the plan.
  • Stadium Headliner: use Stadium Headliner as a curve-filler and pressure creature that benefits from the deck's go-wide damage engines. Card text check required for exact abilities, so do not assume it creates tokens or pumps attackers without visible legal confirmation. Cast it early when it increases board count before Warleader's Call or Arabella, Abandoned Doll; hold it only when removal, a sideboard hate permanent, or a stronger engine play is clearly better from the legal actions. In removal-heavy matchups, Stadium Headliner is expendable enough to bait interaction before committing Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might or a large Song of Totentanz.
  • Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery: treat Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery as a flexible setup or conversion card whose exact face and timing must come from Veles. Card text check required, including which side is castable, what permanent or spell type it is, and whether it affects tokens, damage, or card flow. Choose the side that solves the visible problem: early setup when the hand needs a permanent engine, late conversion when the board needs reach, or a legal removal/disruption mode if Veles exposes one. Do not choose this card over Warleader's Call or Song of Totentanz by habit; choose it when the visible legal action text advances pressure more than a normal creature or token line.
  • Arabella, Abandoned Doll: use Arabella, Abandoned Doll as a payoff for wide boards and small creatures, not as a lone threat. Card text check required for exact trigger condition and damage/life swing, but its strategic slot is to turn many cheap bodies into reach through attacks or combat-adjacent triggers. Cast Arabella, Abandoned Doll before a token burst when it will be alive for the attack or trigger window; delay it when the opponent has obvious open removal and another board-building play pressures them first. In creature mirrors, protect Arabella, Abandoned Doll when its visible text changes the race, but trade or expose it if doing so enables lethal or prevents dying on the backswing.
  • Howlsquad Heavy: use Howlsquad Heavy as a mid-curve stabilizer or pressure body when the board needs size rather than more small creatures. Card text check required for exact stats, abilities, and token interaction. Cast it when small attackers are blanked by blockers, when a larger body improves blocking math, or when the hand lacks Warleader's Call/Song of Totentanz scaling. Avoid leading with Howlsquad Heavy over multiple cheap plays if the opponent is controlling and vulnerable to width; the deck usually wants bodies plus payoff before a single larger creature unless the legal board state demands defense.
  • Shocking Sharpshooter: treat Shocking Sharpshooter as interaction attached to the deck's damage plan when Veles exposes legal targets or abilities. Card text check required for exact damage amount, trigger timing, and target restrictions. Prioritize it against one-toughness creatures, utility creatures, planeswalkers at low loyalty, and blockers that stop profitable attacks. Do not fire it at the opponent's life total merely because damage is legal if a visible creature will generate more damage by being removed before combat. Against control or combo, cast it as pressure when no relevant target exists and holding it would waste mana.
  • Seam Rip: use Seam Rip as targeted interaction for permanents or creatures only when Veles shows legal target text. Card text check required, so avoid assuming it destroys artifacts, enchantments, creatures, or rooms without runtime confirmation. Spend Seam Rip before combat when removing a blocker changes attacks, after the opponent commits an engine piece when that engine is the visible threat, or in response to an exposed legal stack target if the rules engine offers that line. Do not keep mana open for Seam Rip against an empty board when a Warleader's Call or creature would add meaningful pressure.
  • Erode: treat the main-deck Erode as a narrow answer that becomes high priority only when the opponent presents a visible legal target that matters. Card text check required for target types and mode details. In Game 1, do not warp sequencing around the single Erode unless the opponent's public board shows an artifact, enchantment, or other target whose removal prevents a snowball. If Erode is stranded, continue developing pressure and let Veles legal actions determine whether it later becomes usable.
  • Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might: use Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might as a late payoff for noncombat or small-damage lines rather than as the baseline curve plan. Card text check required for exact transformation, damage replacement, and restrictions, but its role is clearly to amplify small damage from cards such as Warleader's Call, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Shocking Sharpshooter, or token-related triggers when legal text supports that interaction. Cast it when you can either protect it through immediate payoff, force lethal pressure, or punish a stalled board. Avoid keeping hands where Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might is the only threat.
  • Inspiring Vantage: prioritize Inspiring Vantage as the cleanest early untapped red-white source. Use it before utility lands when it casts Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, Voice of Victory, Warleader's Call, or Arabella, Abandoned Doll on curve. In late turns, sequence it around tapped-land rules shown by Veles rather than assuming it remains untapped.
  • Sacred Foundry: use Sacred Foundry untapped only when the life payment creates a real same-turn spell, removal hold, or curve preservation. Against aggro, consider tapped Sacred Foundry when no immediate action exists; against control, pay life more freely to keep pressure continuous.
  • Mountain: value Mountain as the stable red source for Hired Claw, Song of Totentanz, Frontline Rush, Shocking Sharpshooter, and red-heavy turns. Do not let Mountain-heavy hands trap white cards in hand unless the first two turns are still active.
  • Sundown Pass: sequence Sundown Pass when it will enter untapped or when no immediate spell is available. Do not keep hands where Sundown Pass plus utility lands delays the first legal action.
  • Fountainport: treat Fountainport as late-game conversion after colored requirements are satisfied. Card text check required for exact activations, but use it when a token, card, or resource action is stronger than committing another spell into removal. Avoid early Fountainport sequencing that prevents Warleader's Call or Voice of Victory.
  • Dalkovan Encampment: treat Dalkovan Encampment as utility pressure or mana support only after Veles confirms the legal action text. Card text check required. Use it to spend spare mana, create board presence, or support stalled games, but do not let it replace colored sources needed for the deck's early red-white curve.

Card Hover Notes

Frontline Rush

  • Deck role: Main deck, 4 copies, core combat-conversion spell for the Boros token shell.
  • Role type: modal utility; mechanic payoff; protection/evasion.
  • Deck-specific job: Choose between creating two 1/1 red Goblin creature tokens or giving target creature +X/+X until end of turn, where X is the number of creatures you control; in this deck, both modes convert width from Song of Totentanz, Voice of Victory, Stadium Headliner, Dalkovan Encampment, Fountainport, Howlsquad Heavy, and Warleader's Call into damage.
  • Timing: Use the token mode when two bodies trigger Warleader's Call or increase Arabella, Abandoned Doll and Stadium Headliner math; use the pump mode when a single unblocked or evasive attacker can convert a wide board into lethal or force a decisive trade.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {R}{W} and either produces two creatures or turns existing creature count into temporary power/toughness on one target creature.
  • Mode map: Token mode creates two 1/1 red Goblin creature tokens; pump mode targets one creature and gives +X/+X until end of turn, with X counted from creatures you control on resolution.
  • Partners / packages: Warleader's Call rewards the token mode with two damage triggers; Arabella, Abandoned Doll counts the small bodies; Stadium Headliner uses total creature count for its sacrifice damage; Howlsquad Heavy gives other Goblins haste and counts Goblins for max speed.
  • Role peers: Closest role overlap is Song of Totentanz for scalable token creation and Stadium Headliner for creature-count damage.
  • Failure modes: Do not cast the pump mode before blockers unless it changes attack legality or forces a better block; do not use token mode as a surprise blocker because the spell only creates ordinary Goblin tokens and does not say they enter blocking.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against blockers that can be outgrown, removal-light decks, and board stalls; weaker against instant-speed removal on the pumped target or sweepers that punish committing extra tokens.

Mountain

  • Deck role: Main deck, 8 copies, core basic red mana resource.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp.
  • Deck-specific job: Supplies stable {R} for Hired Claw, Song of Totentanz, Stadium Headliner, Shocking Sharpshooter, Howlsquad Heavy, Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might, Goddric, Cloaked Reveler, Sunspine Lynx, Hexing Squelcher, and the red half of Frontline Rush, Warleader's Call, and Arabella, Abandoned Doll.
  • Timing: Prefer Mountain early when the hand has Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, or Song of Totentanz; pair it with a white source before keeping hands that rely on Voice of Victory, Warleader's Call, Seam Rip, Erode, Requisition Raid, Rest in Peace, Delney, Streetwise Lookout, or Dawn's Truce.
  • Inputs / outputs: Taps for {R}; it is also the basic type that lets Dalkovan Encampment enter untapped because Dalkovan Encampment checks whether you control a Swamp or a Mountain.
  • Partners / packages: Enables Hired Claw, Song of Totentanz, Stadium Headliner, Shocking Sharpshooter, Howlsquad Heavy, Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might, Goddric, Cloaked Reveler, Sunspine Lynx, and Hexing Squelcher.
  • Role peers: Sacred Foundry, Inspiring Vantage, and Sundown Pass also produce {R}; Fountainport does not.
  • Failure modes: Mountain-only hands strand white spells; avoid keeping a hand whose first meaningful cards are Voice of Victory, Warleader's Call, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Erode, Seam Rip, Rest in Peace, or Dawn's Truce without white access.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Against fast decks, Mountain plus one-drop pressure matters more than utility-land upside; against control, Mountain helps cast red threats while preserving painless mana.

Warleader's Call

  • Deck role: Main deck, 4 copies, central core engine payoff.
  • Role type: engine payoff; mechanic payoff; reach/finisher.
  • Deck-specific job: Gives creatures you control +1/+1 and turns every creature entering under your control into 1 damage to each opponent; it makes Song of Totentanz, Frontline Rush token mode, Voice of Victory mobilize, Stadium Headliner mobilize, Dalkovan Encampment, Fountainport Fish creation, and Howlsquad Heavy token creation into immediate reach.
  • Timing: Cast before multi-body turns when the current board can survive the tempo cost; delay when removal or a blocker must be handled first to avoid losing the race.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {1}{R}{W}; outputs a permanent anthem and repeated noncombat damage to each opponent when your creatures enter.
  • Partners / packages: Song of Totentanz, Frontline Rush, Voice of Victory, Stadium Headliner, Dalkovan Encampment, Fountainport, Howlsquad Heavy, Shocking Sharpshooter, and Arabella, Abandoned Doll all reward or exploit extra bodies.
  • Role peers: Arabella, Abandoned Doll and Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might are closest damage-conversion peers, but Warleader's Call is the most reliable repeated engine.
  • Failure modes: A second copy is weaker than adding creatures when one copy already threatens lethal; do not spend turn three on it if the opponent's board presents immediate lethal or a must-remove blocker.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Excellent against one-for-one removal and ground stalls; respect sweepers by keeping Song of Totentanz, Frontline Rush, Fountainport, or Dalkovan Encampment as a rebuild source.

Erode

  • Deck role: Main deck 1 copy and sideboard 2 copies, flexible cheap removal and postboard interaction slot.
  • Role type: interaction-removal; sideboard bullet.
  • Deck-specific job: Destroys target creature or planeswalker; in this deck it clears a blocker, kills a snowballing creature, or answers a planeswalker before token attacks lose tempo.
  • Timing: Use precombat when removing a creature changes attacks or when a planeswalker will otherwise survive to add loyalty, make tokens, or draw cards; hold when the current target is low impact and pressure already forces good blocks.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {W}; destroys the target creature or planeswalker, then that permanent's controller may search their library for a basic land card, put it onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle.
  • Partners / packages: Frontline Rush, Song of Totentanz, Stadium Headliner, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, and Warleader's Call all benefit when Erode clears the blocker that controls combat.
  • Role peers: Seam Rip also answers small nonland permanents; Stadium Headliner can sacrifice to damage target creature; Requisition Raid answers artifacts and enchantments but not creatures or planeswalkers.
  • Failure modes: The controller may receive a tapped basic land, so avoid using Erode on a creature that does not affect combat, lethal, or an engine unless mana acceleration is irrelevant.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against creature decks, planeswalker stabilization, and single large blockers; weaker against creature-light control or decks where giving a tapped basic land helps them reach a sweeper.

Song of Totentanz

  • Deck role: Main deck, 4 copies, core scalable token burst and finisher.
  • Role type: mechanic enabler; engine fuel/material; reach/finisher.
  • Deck-specific job: Creates X 1/1 black Rat creature tokens with "This token can't block" and gives creatures you control haste until end of turn; it turns mana into immediate attackers and Warleader's Call triggers.
  • Timing: Small X is correct when it fills a curve, triggers Warleader's Call, enables Arabella, Abandoned Doll, or creates lethal; large X is best after Warleader's Call, before Arabella attacks, or when the opponent cannot punish a one-turn flood of nonblocking Rats.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {X}{R}; produces X Rats that cannot block and gives your creature team haste for the turn.
  • Partners / packages: Warleader's Call turns each Rat entering into damage; Arabella, Abandoned Doll counts the 1/1 Rats; Stadium Headliner uses the increased creature count for sacrifice damage; Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might amplifies red noncombat damage from Warleader's Call but not the black Rat tokens' combat damage.
  • Role peers: Frontline Rush creates two Goblins at fixed cost; Dalkovan Encampment creates temporary attacking Warriors; Fountainport creates one Fish or Treasure.
  • Failure modes: Do not rely on Rat tokens to block; do not spend all mana on X if holding Erode, Seam Rip, Frontline Rush, or Dawn's Truce is needed for lethal or survival.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong after sweepers and in stalled boards; weaker into damage sweepers, lifegain stabilization, or blockers that absorb the one-turn attack without losing key resources.

Inspiring Vantage

  • Deck role: Main deck, 4 copies, core early red-white mana resource.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp.
  • Deck-specific job: Provides untapped {R} or {W} early for Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, Voice of Victory, Frontline Rush, Warleader's Call, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Erode, and Seam Rip.
  • Timing: Best as one of the first three lands because it enters tapped unless you control two or fewer other lands; sequence before Fountainport or Dalkovan Encampment when colored spells are waiting.
  • Inputs / outputs: Enters untapped only while you control two or fewer other lands, then taps for {R} or {W}.
  • Partners / packages: Enables early Hired Claw and Stadium Headliner while still covering Voice of Victory, Frontline Rush, Warleader's Call, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Erode, Seam Rip, Requisition Raid, Rest in Peace, Delney, Streetwise Lookout, and Dawn's Truce.
  • Role peers: Sacred Foundry and Sundown Pass also produce {R} or {W}; Sacred Foundry can cost 2 life, while Sundown Pass is often tapped before the third land.
  • Failure modes: Late Inspiring Vantage can enter tapped and cost a double-spell or protection window; avoid assuming it fixes a turn-four Song of Totentanz plus white interaction line.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Against fast decks, prioritize untapped Inspiring Vantage over utility lands; against control, it preserves early pressure without Sacred Foundry life loss.

Dalkovan Encampment

  • Deck role: Main deck, 3 copies, utility land and late-game token pressure source.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp; engine piece; mechanic enabler.
  • Deck-specific job: Provides {W} and can pay {2}{W}, tap, and set up an attack trigger that creates two tapped and attacking 1/1 red Warrior creature tokens, sacrificed at the next end step.
  • Timing: Play early only if you control or will soon control Mountain from Mountain or Sacred Foundry; otherwise it may enter tapped and delay red pressure. Activate before attacking when the two Warriors trigger Warleader's Call, boost Arabella, Abandoned Doll, or create lethal pressure.
  • Inputs / outputs: Enters tapped unless you control a Swamp or a Mountain; taps for {W}; activation consumes {2}{W} and the land tap to make two temporary tapped attacking Warriors whenever you attack this turn.
  • Partners / packages: Mountain and Sacred Foundry help it enter untapped; Warleader's Call triggers from the Warriors; Arabella, Abandoned Doll counts the Warriors; Stadium Headliner counts them for sacrifice damage.
  • Role peers: Fountainport is a utility land with card draw, Fish, and Treasure modes; Song of Totentanz and Frontline Rush also create multiple creatures.
  • Failure modes: The Warriors are sacrificed at the beginning of the next end step, so do not value them as lasting board presence; do not activate when holding mana for Erode, Seam Rip, Frontline Rush, or Dawn's Truce is more important.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against control and midrange stalls where land-based pressure dodges hand disruption; weaker when the opponent can punish tapped attackers or when colored red mana is already strained.

Hired Claw

  • Deck role: Main deck, 4 copies, core one-mana pressure creature.
  • Role type: threat/clock; mechanic payoff; mana sink.
  • Deck-specific job: Starts early attacks and rewards attacking with one or more Lizards by dealing 1 damage to target opponent; in this deck, Hired Claw is usually the only Lizard named in the registered list, so its trigger mostly depends on Hired Claw itself attacking.
  • Timing: Cast on turn one when possible; activate {1}{R} only after an opponent lost life this turn and only if the +1/+1 counter matters more than casting another spell or holding interaction.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {R}; attacks for early damage; can consume {1}{R} once each turn after opponent life loss to put a +1/+1 counter on itself.
  • Partners / packages: Warleader's Call makes it a 2/3 and rewards later creatures; Voice of Victory can stop opponents from casting spells during your turn; Frontline Rush pump mode scales with Hired Claw joining a wide board.
  • Role peers: Stadium Headliner is the other one-mana red pressure creature; Shocking Sharpshooter and Voice of Victory are two-mana small-body pressure pieces.
  • Failure modes: Do not preserve Hired Claw over a trade that protects life total or opens a wider attack; do not spend activation mana if Song of Totentanz, Warleader's Call, Erode, or Seam Rip would produce a larger swing.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Best on early turns and against slow decks; in creature mirrors, it becomes expendable once Warleader's Call, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, or Song of Totentanz is the real damage engine.

Fountainport

  • Deck role: Main deck, 2 copies, utility land and late-game resource converter.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp; engine piece; card selection; engine fuel/material.
  • Deck-specific job: Produces {C}, converts tokens into cards, creates a 1/1 blue Fish, or creates a Treasure; it gives Boros Tokens a flood plan without spending a spell slot.
  • Timing: Play after red-white requirements are secure unless no colored spell is waiting; activate card draw when sacrificing a token is worth more than board width, and create Fish or Treasure when mana would otherwise go unused.
  • Inputs / outputs: Taps for {C}; {2}, tap, sacrifice a token draws a card; {3}, tap, pay 1 life creates a 1/1 blue Fish; {4}, tap creates a Treasure token.
  • Mode map: Mana ability supplies {C}; token-sacrifice draw trades a token and mana for one card; Fish mode buys a body at the cost of 1 life; Treasure mode banks mana and adds an artifact token.
  • Partners / packages: Song of Totentanz Rats, Frontline Rush Goblins, Voice of Victory Warriors, Stadium Headliner Warriors, Dalkovan Encampment Warriors, and Howlsquad Heavy Goblins can be sacrificed to draw if no longer needed for combat.
  • Role peers: Dalkovan Encampment is the other utility land; Warleader's Call and Song of Totentanz are stronger proactive engines.
  • Failure modes: Fountainport does not produce {R} or {W}; early Fountainport hands can strand Hired Claw, Voice of Victory, Warleader's Call, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Erode, or Seam Rip.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Excellent in attrition games and after sweepers; against burn or aggro, pay 1 life for Fish only when the blocker or Warleader's Call trigger changes survival or lethal math.

Seam Rip

  • Deck role: Main deck, 2 copies, cheap tempo removal for small nonland permanents.
  • Role type: interaction-removal.
  • Deck-specific job: Exiles target nonland permanent an opponent controls with mana value 2 or less until Seam Rip leaves the battlefield; it clears cheap blockers, hate permanents, or low-cost engines so tokens can keep attacking.
  • Timing: Cast precombat when the target blocks multiple attackers or disables Warleader's Call, Song of Totentanz, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, or Stadium Headliner pressure; hold if the only target is a low-impact permanent that does not affect the next turns.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {W}; creates an enchantment that temporarily exiles an opposing nonland permanent with mana value 2 or less.
  • Partners / packages: Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, Voice of Victory, Song of Totentanz, Frontline Rush, and Arabella, Abandoned Doll all benefit from Seam Rip clearing the small blocker or hate permanent.
  • Role peers: Erode destroys target creature or planeswalker but can ramp that permanent's controller; Requisition Raid destroys artifacts or enchantments after sideboarding.
  • Failure modes: If Seam Rip leaves the battlefield, the exiled permanent returns; do not treat it as permanent removal against decks likely to remove enchantments.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against cheap engines, small blockers, and token-hate permanents; weak against high-mana-value threats, creatureless control, or opponents whose key permanent can safely return later.

Howlsquad Heavy

  • Deck role: Main deck, 2 copies, mid-curve Goblin engine and mana burst threat.
  • Role type: engine piece; mechanic enabler; mana/fixing/ramp; threat/clock.
  • Deck-specific job: Starts your engines, gives other Goblins you control haste, creates a 1/1 red Goblin at the beginning of combat on your turn that attacks if able, and at max speed can tap for {R} for each Goblin you control.
  • Timing: Cast when a three-mana creature will survive to combat or when Goblin haste and repeated Goblin creation matter more than a one-turn Song of Totentanz; max-speed mana should be used when it enables a large Song of Totentanz, Frontline Rush plus spell, or postcombat action.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {2}{R}; produces recurring attacking Goblins and, at max speed, red mana scaled by Goblins you control.
  • Partners / packages: Frontline Rush creates Goblins; Stadium Headliner is a Goblin Warrior; Warleader's Call rewards Howlsquad Heavy's combat-token trigger; Song of Totentanz can use max-speed red mana for larger X.
  • Role peers: Dalkovan Encampment also creates temporary attacking tokens; Shocking Sharpshooter and Warleader's Call also convert creature entries into damage.
  • Failure modes: The combat-created Goblin attacks if able, so do not rely on it as a blocker; Howlsquad Heavy is slower than Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, and Voice of Victory when the matchup is about early tempo.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong in board stalls and against removal-light midrange; trim or deprioritize when three-mana setup is too slow against aggro or control sweepers.

Sundown Pass

  • Deck role: Main deck, 2 copies, red-white mana resource with delayed untap condition.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp.
  • Deck-specific job: Fixes both colors after the deck has established two or more other lands, supporting Warleader's Call, Frontline Rush, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, and sideboard white cards while still casting red threats.
  • Timing: Best on turn three or later when it enters untapped; early Sundown Pass can cost the deck a turn-one Hired Claw or Stadium Headliner and should be sequenced only when no immediate spell is available.
  • Inputs / outputs: Enters tapped unless you control two or more other lands; taps for {R} or {W}.
  • Partners / packages: Helps cast Frontline Rush, Warleader's Call, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Erode, Seam Rip, Requisition Raid, Rest in Peace, Delney, Streetwise Lookout, Dawn's Truce, Hired Claw, Song of Totentanz, and Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might.
  • Role peers: Inspiring Vantage is better early; Sacred Foundry is flexible at the cost of possible life; Mountain is painless red only.
  • Failure modes: Do not keep a hand where Sundown Pass plus Fountainport or Dalkovan Encampment makes the first legal spell arrive too late.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Against control, the later untapped fixing is useful; against aggro and burn, early tapped sequencing and Sacred Foundry life decisions must be weighed carefully.

Shocking Sharpshooter

  • Deck role: Main deck, 2 copies, small reach creature and creature-entry damage engine.
  • Role type: engine payoff; threat/clock; lifegain/stabilization.
  • Deck-specific job: Blocks flyers with reach and deals 1 damage to target opponent whenever another creature you control enters; it turns Song of Totentanz, Frontline Rush token mode, Voice of Victory mobilize, Stadium Headliner mobilize, Dalkovan Encampment, Fountainport Fish, and Howlsquad Heavy tokens into opponent damage.
  • Timing: Cast before multi-creature turns when it is likely to survive; hold only if another play creates lethal now or if reach is needed for an incoming flyer.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {1}{R}; outputs a 1/3 reach body and repeated 1-damage triggers to target opponent from later creature entries.
  • Partners / packages: Warleader's Call stacks with Shocking Sharpshooter for each creature entering; Song of Totentanz and Frontline Rush provide multiple creature entries; Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might can replace Shocking Sharpshooter's red noncombat damage to an opponent if the amount is less than Ojer's power.
  • Role peers: Warleader's Call is the enchantment version of entry-damage; Arabella, Abandoned Doll converts wide attacks into damage and life.
  • Failure modes: Shocking Sharpshooter does not remove creatures with its listed trigger because it targets only an opponent; do not hold it as creature removal.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against flyers and slow decks that let entry triggers accumulate; weaker when the opponent removes Hired Claw, Voice of Victory, Stadium Headliner, or Shocking Sharpshooter before token turns.

Voice of Victory

  • Deck role: Main deck, 4 copies, core two-mana pressure and anti-interaction creature.
  • Role type: threat/clock; protection/evasion; mechanic enabler.
  • Deck-specific job: Mobilize 2 creates two tapped and attacking 1/1 red Warrior tokens whenever Voice of Victory attacks, and opponents can't cast spells during your turn; this protects combat and token-conversion turns from instant-speed interaction.
  • Timing: Cast early when the opponent may use removal, counters, or combat tricks on your turn; attack when the two Warriors improve damage or trigger Warleader's Call, but preserve Voice if losing it would collapse the anti-interaction plan.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {1}{W}; attacks to produce two temporary tapped attacking Warriors sacrificed at end step; static text restricts opponents from casting spells during your turn.
  • Partners / packages: Warleader's Call triggers from mobilized Warriors; Arabella, Abandoned Doll counts Voice and the Warriors if they have power 2 or less; Delney, Streetwise Lookout doubles Voice's triggered ability because Voice has power 2 or less.
  • Role peers: Stadium Headliner also has mobilize; Dalkovan Encampment also creates temporary attacking Warriors; Hexing Squelcher also pressures opponent interaction patterns.
  • Failure modes: Mobilize tokens are temporary and attacking, not blockers; do not attack Voice into a profitable trade if its spell-locking text is needed for a decisive Song of Totentanz, Frontline Rush, or Dawn's Truce turn.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Excellent against control, tempo, and combat-trick decks; against creature mirrors, value it by whether mobilize attacks safely and whether the static text matters.

Arabella, Abandoned Doll

  • Deck role: Main deck, 2 copies, legendary wide-board payoff and race stabilizer.
  • Role type: engine payoff; lifegain/stabilization; reach/finisher.
  • Deck-specific job: When Arabella attacks, it deals X damage to each opponent and you gain X life, where X is the number of creatures you control with power 2 or less; nearly every main-deck creature token and small creature starts within that count.
  • Timing: Cast before a token burst if it can attack safely next turn; attack when the trigger's damage and life swing outweigh losing Arabella in combat or to removal.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {R}{W}; outputs attack-trigger damage to each opponent and life gain for you based on your power-2-or-less creature count.
  • Partners / packages: Song of Totentanz Rats, Frontline Rush Goblins, Voice of Victory Warriors, Stadium Headliner Warriors, Dalkovan Encampment Warriors, Fountainport Fish, Hired Claw, Shocking Sharpshooter, and Delney, Streetwise Lookout all contribute or amplify the Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, Voice of Victory, Shocking Sharpshooter, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Song of Totentanz Rat, Frontline Rush Goblin, Dalkovan Encampment Warrior, and Fountainport Fish plan.
  • Role peers: Warleader's Call is the other main wide-board payoff; Shocking Sharpshooter turns entries into damage; Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might amplifies red noncombat damage, not Arabella's damage unless the engine confirms Arabella is a red source.
  • Failure modes: Arabella is poor as a lone attacker; do not expose it if no wide board or follow-up token source exists unless a blocker or life gain is urgently needed.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong in races and board stalls; prioritize against aggro when the life gain swings combat math, and against midrange when Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, Voice of Victory, and token bodies can survive long enough to attack.

Sacred Foundry

  • Deck role: Main deck, 4 copies, core dual land and Mountain Plains source.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp.
  • Deck-specific job: Provides either {R} or {W}, counts as both Mountain and Plains, and fixes the deck's most important early sequences for Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, Voice of Victory, Warleader's Call, Frontline Rush, and Arabella, Abandoned Doll.
  • Timing: Pay 2 life when untapped mana enables a real same-turn spell or preserves the curve; let it enter tapped when no immediate play exists or life total is under pressure.
  • Inputs / outputs: As it enters, you may pay 2 life; if you do not, it enters tapped. It taps for {R} or {W}.
  • Partners / packages: Its Mountain type helps Dalkovan Encampment enter untapped; it casts Erode, Seam Rip, Requisition Raid, Rest in Peace, Delney, Streetwise Lookout, Dawn's Truce, Song of Totentanz, Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might, Goddric, Cloaked Reveler, Sunspine Lynx, and Hexing Squelcher.
  • Role peers: Inspiring Vantage is painless early fixing; Sundown Pass is later fixing; Mountain is painless red only.
  • Failure modes: Repeated untapped Sacred Foundry payments can lose races; do not pay 2 life without a spell, protection hold, or combat-relevant reason.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Against burn or aggro, preserve life unless the untapped spell changes the race; against control, paying life for tempo is usually acceptable.

Stadium Headliner

  • Deck role: Main deck, 4 copies, core one-mana mobilize attacker and creature-count removal outlet.
  • Role type: threat/clock; mechanic enabler; interaction-removal.
  • Deck-specific job: Mobilize 1 creates a tapped and attacking 1/1 red Warrior when Stadium Headliner attacks, and {1}{R}, sacrifice Stadium Headliner deals damage equal to the number of creatures you control to target creature.
  • Timing: Cast early to start attacks and generate Warrior entries; sacrifice only when killing the target creature changes combat, prevents lethal, or removes a blocker worth more than the continuing mobilize body.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {R}; attacks to create a temporary attacking Warrior; activated ability consumes {1}{R}, Stadium Headliner, and a target creature to deal creature-count-based damage.
  • Partners / packages: Warleader's Call triggers from the mobilized Warrior; Arabella, Abandoned Doll counts both small bodies; Frontline Rush, Song of Totentanz, Dalkovan Encampment, and Fountainport increase creature count for the sacrifice damage.
  • Role peers: Hired Claw is the other one-mana attacker; Erode and Seam Rip are cleaner removal for their target classes.
  • Failure modes: Sacrificing Stadium Headliner reduces future mobilize pressure; do not use it on a creature that would die in combat anyway unless it unlocks a larger attack now.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against creature decks with key blockers; against control, keep it attacking unless a creature target truly matters.
  • Deck role: Main deck, 3 copies, Room split-card flex slot with missing rules metadata.
  • Role type: modal utility; role glue.
  • Deck-specific job: Registered as a split Room with Painter's Studio costing {2}{R} and Defaced Gallery costing {1}{R}; because the supplied reference gives face names and mana costs but omits rules text for both faces, this deck should treat it as a red Room whose exact pressure, damage, card-flow, or utility role must come from Veles legal actions.
  • Timing: Choose a face only when the engine shows the legal action text and that face advances the current bottleneck; do not spend turn two or three on it over Hired Claw, Voice of Victory, Warleader's Call, Song of Totentanz, or removal unless the shown Room text is stronger.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes either {2}{R} for Painter's Studio or {1}{R} for Defaced Gallery; exact outputs are unavailable in the supplied Card Reference.
  • Mode map: Painter's Studio is one Enchantment — Room face with cost {2}{R}; Defaced Gallery is the other Enchantment — Room face with cost {1}{R}; unlock/cast decisions must follow runtime legal labels because rules text is missing.
  • Partners / packages: If runtime text creates creatures, Warleader's Call, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Shocking Sharpshooter, and Delney, Streetwise Lookout may matter; if runtime text deals red noncombat damage, Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might may matter.
  • Role peers: Warleader's Call, Song of Totentanz, Fountainport, and Dalkovan Encampment are the known engine or utility alternatives.
  • Failure modes: The supplied reference omits rules text for both faces, so avoid text-sensitive claims about tokens, damage, card draw, unlock timing, targets, or triggers unless Veles exposes them.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Use as a flexible red permanent only when the revealed face text solves a matchup problem better than the known token-pressure core.

Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might

  • Deck role: Main deck, 1 copy, singleton high-ceiling red noncombat damage amplifier.
  • Role type: engine payoff; reach/finisher; modal utility.
  • Deck-specific job: Ojer Axonil replaces small red noncombat damage from your red sources to an opponent with damage equal to Ojer's power; the main named partners are Warleader's Call and Shocking Sharpshooter, and possibly Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery if Veles shows red noncombat damage text.
  • Timing: Cast when it will immediately amplify damage, force lethal soon, or survive long enough to transform into Temple of Power; do not tap out for a 4/4 if the game is won by cheaper bodies or lost to a current blocker.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {2}{R}{R}; outputs a 4/4 legendary God with trample and a red noncombat damage replacement effect. When it dies, it returns tapped and transformed as Temple of Power.
  • Mode map: Ojer Axonil face is a 4/4 trample creature; Temple of Power taps for {R} and can pay {2}{R}, tap, at sorcery speed to transform if red sources you controlled dealt 4 or more noncombat damage this turn.
  • Partners / packages: Warleader's Call and Shocking Sharpshooter are the verified red noncombat damage sources; Frontline Rush, Song of Totentanz, and Arabella, Abandoned Doll help create the board that makes those triggers frequent.
  • Role peers: Warleader's Call and Arabella, Abandoned Doll are lower-cost damage-conversion cards.
  • Failure modes: Ojer does not amplify combat damage; do not assume it changes Song of Totentanz Rat combat or Frontline Rush pump damage.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against stalled boards and opponents relying on life-total stabilization; vulnerable to exile removal and tempo loss against fast decks.

Requisition Raid

  • Deck role: Sideboard, 2 copies, artifact/enchantment answer and optional team counter spell.
  • Role type: sideboard bullet; modal utility; interaction-removal; mechanic payoff.
  • Deck-specific job: Spree lets you choose one or more additional costs: pay {1} to destroy target artifact, pay {1} to destroy target enchantment, and/or pay {1} to put a +1/+1 counter on each creature target player controls.
  • Timing: Cast before combat when destroying an artifact or enchantment unlocks attacks, removes lifegain or token hate, or when the counter mode makes a wide board lethal; avoid spending a main phase on it when no target changes the race.
  • Inputs / outputs: Base cost {W} plus {1} for each chosen mode; can destroy target artifact, destroy target enchantment, and/or put counters on each creature controlled by target player.
  • Mode map: Artifact mode targets and destroys one artifact; enchantment mode targets and destroys one enchantment; counter mode targets a player and puts a +1/+1 counter on each creature that player controls.
  • Partners / packages: Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, Voice of Victory, Song of Totentanz tokens, Frontline Rush Goblins, Dalkovan Encampment Warriors, and Fountainport Fish all benefit from the counter mode.
  • Role peers: Erode answers creatures and planeswalkers; Seam Rip temporarily exiles mana value 2 or less nonland permanents.
  • Failure modes: Requisition Raid is a sorcery, so it cannot answer a spell on the stack or surprise an attacker; choose only modes you can pay for and that have legal targets.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Bring in against artifact engines, enchantment engines, Equipment, Auras, Rooms, Classes, and token-hate permanents; avoid against creature-only decks unless the counter mode is worth the card.

Goddric, Cloaked Reveler

  • Deck role: Sideboard, 1 copy, hasty closing threat for attrition and control matchups.
  • Role type: sideboard bullet; threat/clock; reach/finisher.
  • Deck-specific job: A 3/3 haste creature that becomes a 4/4 flying Dragon with "{R}: Dragons you control get +1/+0 until end of turn" for the turn if celebration is active from two or more nonland permanents entering under your control.
  • Timing: Deploy after or alongside two nonland permanent entries when celebration can make it a flying 4/4 immediately; use as plain haste pressure only when the opponent is exposed and speed matters more than maximizing celebration.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {1}{R}{R}; outputs haste pressure and, with celebration, temporary Dragon stats, flying, and a red pump outlet.
  • Partners / packages: Song of Totentanz creates multiple nonland permanents; Frontline Rush token mode creates two nonland permanents; Voice of Victory and Stadium Headliner create attacking Warrior tokens when they attack; Fountainport Fish and Treasure are nonland permanents.
  • Role peers: Sunspine Lynx is another sideboard closer; Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might is main-deck top-end reach.
  • Failure modes: Goddric requires two nonland permanents entering under your control this turn for celebration; a land drop does not help, and a single creature spell alone leaves it as a 3/3 haste.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against control after a sweeper or against midrange stalls where flying matters; weaker against cheap instant removal or when double red strains the curve.

Hexing Squelcher

  • Deck role: Sideboard, 3 copies, anti-countermagic and ward-tax pressure creature.
  • Role type: sideboard bullet; hate piece; protection/evasion; threat/clock.
  • Deck-specific job: Cannot be countered, makes spells you control unable to be countered, has ward—pay 2 life, and gives other creatures you control ward—pay 2 life; it protects the Boros token plan from counterspells and spot removal that targets creatures.
  • Timing: Cast before Warleader's Call, Song of Totentanz, Goddric, Cloaked Reveler, Sunspine Lynx, Delney, Streetwise Lookout, or a key creature turn when counters or targeted removal are visible.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {1}{R}; outputs a 2/2 uncounterable body, uncounterability for your spells, and ward costs on your creatures.
  • Partners / packages: Voice of Victory also constrains opponent interaction during your turn; Dawn's Truce protects you and permanents; Warleader's Call, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Stadium Headliner, and Delney, Streetwise Lookout become harder to answer with targeted spells.
  • Role peers: Voice of Victory is the main-deck anti-turn interaction piece; Dawn's Truce is the one-shot protection spell.
  • Failure modes: Ward—pay 2 life does not stop sweepers, edicts, sacrifice effects, or non-targeted removal; do not board it in only as a 2/2 if the opponent is not countering spells or targeting creatures.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against control, tempo, and removal-heavy decks; weaker against board sweepers, combat-based creature decks, and decks with life to pay for ward without losing the race.

Rest in Peace

  • Deck role: Sideboard, 3 copies, graveyard hate bullet.
  • Role type: hate piece; sideboard bullet.
  • Deck-specific job: Exiles all graveyards when it enters and replaces any card or token going to a graveyard from anywhere with exile; it shuts off reanimation, flashback, escape, death recursion, and graveyard-count scaling while barely taxing this deck's own normal plan.
  • Timing: Cast before the opponent can use graveyard resources; do not delay lethal pressure to answer an opponent whose graveyard has no active payoff.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {1}{W}; exiles all graveyards on entry and continuously exiles future cards or tokens that would go to graveyards.
  • Partners / packages: Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, Voice of Victory, Warleader's Call, Song of Totentanz, and Frontline Rush keep pressure active after Rest in Peace is deployed.
  • Role peers: No direct peer; closest role overlap is Erode or Requisition Raid only when an opposing graveyard deck relies on a creature, planeswalker, artifact, or enchantment engine that those cards can legally answer.
  • Failure modes: Rest in Peace does not counter a spell already cast using flashback, delve, or escape after costs are paid; use it proactively before the opponent commits those graveyard resources.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Bring in against visible reanimation, flashback, escape, descend/delirium-style scaling, recursive threats, and death loops; avoid against ordinary creature combat or artifact/enchantment engines with incidental graveyards.

Sunspine Lynx

  • Deck role: Sideboard, 2 copies, anti-lifegain and nonbasic-land punishment closer.
  • Role type: sideboard bullet; hate piece; reach/finisher; threat/clock.
  • Deck-specific job: Stops players from gaining life, prevents damage prevention, and deals damage to each player equal to that player's number of nonbasic lands when it enters; it closes games where opponents rely on lifegain, prevention, or greedy mana.
  • Timing: Cast when the opponent's nonbasic count and life total make the enters trigger favorable or when life gain/prevention would otherwise invalidate token damage; avoid if your own nonbasic count makes the exchange dangerous.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {2}{R}{R}; outputs a 5/4 body, anti-lifegain, anti-prevention, and symmetric enters damage based on each player's nonbasic lands.
  • Partners / packages: Warleader's Call, Song of Totentanz, Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, Voice of Victory, and Frontline Rush help put the opponent low enough for Sunspine Lynx to finish.
  • Role peers: Goddric, Cloaked Reveler is another sideboard closing threat; Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might is main-deck red reach.
  • Failure modes: The enters damage hits each player, including you; count your nonbasic Inspiring Vantage, Dalkovan Encampment, Fountainport, Sundown Pass, Sacred Foundry, and any Room-land status from runtime before casting.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against lifegain decks, damage-prevention effects, slow multicolor control, and nonbasic-heavy ramp; weak against low-curve red mirrors when four mana and self-damage are liabilities.

Delney, Streetwise Lookout

  • Deck role: Sideboard, 1 copy, small-creature trigger amplifier and combat evasion payoff.
  • Role type: sideboard bullet; engine payoff; protection/evasion; mechanic payoff.
  • Deck-specific job: Makes creatures you control with power 2 or less unable to be blocked by creatures with power 3 or greater, and doubles triggered abilities of creatures you control with power 2 or less.
  • Timing: Cast when you already have or can immediately create Hired Claw, Voice of Victory, Stadium Headliner, Shocking Sharpshooter, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, or Howlsquad Heavy with relevant triggers; avoid as an empty three-mana 2/2 when the board needs removal, protection, or a faster closer.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {2}{W}; outputs evasion against large blockers and an additional trigger for qualifying Hired Claw, Voice of Victory, Stadium Headliner, Shocking Sharpshooter, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, or Howlsquad Heavy bodies.
  • Partners / packages: Hired Claw's attack trigger, Voice of Victory's mobilize trigger, Stadium Headliner's mobilize trigger, Shocking Sharpshooter's creature-entry trigger, Arabella, Abandoned Doll's attack trigger, and Howlsquad Heavy's beginning-of-combat token trigger can benefit while those creatures have power 2 or less.
  • Role peers: Warleader's Call is another payoff but can raise Hired Claw, Voice of Victory, Stadium Headliner, Shocking Sharpshooter, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, or Howlsquad Heavy current power, which may change Delney eligibility; Arabella, Abandoned Doll is another power-2-or-less trigger payoff.
  • Failure modes: Warleader's Call's +1/+1 can push some creatures above power 2, so check current power before assuming Delney doubles a trigger or grants evasion.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against midrange boards with large blockers and in Hired Claw, Voice of Victory, and Stadium Headliner mirrors; weak against sweepers or removal-heavy control when no trigger can be doubled immediately.

Dawn's Truce

  • Deck role: Sideboard, 1 copy, one-shot protection spell for decisive turns.
  • Role type: sideboard bullet; protection/evasion; modal utility.
  • Deck-specific job: Gives you and permanents you control hexproof until end of turn; if you gift a card as you cast it, permanents you control also gain indestructible until end of turn after the opponent draws the gifted card.
  • Timing: Hold for a sweeper, targeted removal sequence, lethal combat, or survival turn; gift only when indestructible is necessary and giving the opponent a card is less costly than losing the board.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {1}{W}; may give an opponent a card before effects; outputs hexproof for you and your permanents, and with gift also indestructible for your permanents.
  • Mode map: No-gift line gives hexproof to you and permanents you control; gift line promises an opponent a card as you cast Dawn's Truce, that opponent draws before other effects, then your permanents also gain indestructible.
  • Partners / packages: Protects Warleader's Call, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might, Voice of Victory, Stadium Headliner, Hired Claw, Shocking Sharpshooter, Delney, Streetwise Lookout, Goddric, Cloaked Reveler, and Sunspine Lynx.
  • Role peers: Hexing Squelcher gives ward and uncounterability; Voice of Victory prevents opponents from casting spells during your turn.
  • Failure modes: Hexproof does not stop non-targeted sweepers by itself; use the gift line when indestructible is required against destruction-based sweepers, but it still does not stop exile, sacrifice, -X/-X, or bounce effects that do not destroy.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Bring in against sweepers, targeted removal, and alpha-strike mirrors; avoid holding up mana every turn if the opponent has shown no relevant interaction and proactive pressure would be stronger.

Interaction Priorities

  • Priority: remove visible blockers or engines that reduce token damage before spending interaction on life-total damage. Use Seam Rip, Erode, Requisition Raid, Hexing Squelcher, Shocking Sharpshooter, or other legal interaction only after Veles exposes target text; Card text check required for exact target types and timing on all except broad strategic roles. Kill utility creatures, sweep-enabling permanents, lifegain engines, and blockers that stop multiple Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, Song of Totentanz, or Frontline Rush bodies before removing a single medium attacker.
  • Priority: answer sweepers, prison pieces, and repeatable removal differently by archetype. Against control, preserve continuous pressure from Warleader's Call, Voice of Victory, Fountainport, Dalkovan Encampment, and Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery rather than emptying every creature into open mana; against creature decks, spend removal precombat when it changes attacks or blocks; against graveyard decks, Rest in Peace becomes a high-value lock piece after sideboarding if legal to cast and if it does not delay lethal pressure.
  • Priority: treat Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Warleader's Call, and Voice of Victory as high-impact permanents that justify clearing a path or baiting removal. Lead with Stadium Headliner, Hired Claw, a small Song of Totentanz, or Howlsquad Heavy when you need the opponent to spend removal before the payoff enters. Do not bait with Voice of Victory if its visible text is protecting the decisive turn or punishing opponent interaction.
  • Priority: ignore targets that do not change the next two combat steps. Small creatures that cannot block well, tapped non-lethal attackers, redundant mana permanents, and low-impact artifacts or enchantments are lower priority than blockers, sweep setup, lifegain, combo pieces, or cards that invalidate tokens. Do not spend Erode or Requisition Raid on the first legal target if Warleader's Call plus combat creates more damage and the target does not affect that damage.
  • Priority: use Dawn's Truce as protection only when the legal text prevents a decisive loss, protects a payoff through removal, or enables a lethal/survival combat step. Card text check required. Do not hold up protection at the cost of missing a strong proactive turn unless the opponent's visible mana, stack, or known revealed card makes protection the better line.
  • Priority: postboard interaction shifts by matchup. Against artifacts/enchantments, Erode and Requisition Raid rise; against graveyards, Rest in Peace rises; against large red or damage-based races, Sunspine Lynx may become pressure plus disruption, but Card text check required; against cheap-spell or triggered-engine decks, Hexing Squelcher may be tactical interaction only if Veles exposes a legal target or relevant ability.

Combat And Trading Rules

  • Attack rule: default to forcing blocks when Warleader's Call, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might, or Frontline Rush makes each small body worth more than its printed combat stats. Check the legal attack set and visible blockers before committing; do not assume token triggers, pump, or damage replacement unless Veles shows the action or the card text has been verified.
  • Attack rule: preserve wide-board payoffs when the payoff creates more future damage than one attack. Keep Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might, and Voice of Victory out of bad attacks unless the attack is lethal, forces a critical trade, or prevents dying on the backswing. Trade Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, and Song of Totentanz tokens more freely when they convert into damage or clear blockers.
  • Attack rule: sequence combat around visible instant-speed windows. If Seam Rip, Shocking Sharpshooter, Frontline Rush, Dawn's Truce, or a land activation is legal before combat, use it precombat only when it changes attacks, creates lethal, or removes a blocker that would otherwise eat multiple bodies. Hold it through blocks when the opponent may misblock and the legal action remains available.
  • Block rule: protect life total aggressively once the opponent's visible next attack threatens lethal within two turns. Boros Tokens can race, but it loses when it refuses to block while relying on unverified reach. Chump with expendable tokens before sacrificing Warleader's Call, Voice of Victory, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, or Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might unless the permanent is no longer converting damage.
  • Trade rule: accept trades that unlock attacks for multiple creatures, reduce a short clock, or turn expendable bodies into damage through verified triggers. Decline trades that leave the opponent with the only engine or remove your only payoff for a single low-impact blocker. Howlsquad Heavy is the preferred body for stabilizing trades when small tokens are outclassed.
  • Race rule: against aggro, value blocks, tapped-land discipline, and lifegain/prevention text if legal; against midrange, attack in waves so one removal spell does not erase all pressure; against control, make them answer recurring or distributed sources rather than one fragile creature; against combo, shorten the clock and use interaction on enabling permanents instead of marginal blockers.
  • Protection rule: use Voice of Victory and Dawn's Truce to defend the decisive combat or payoff turn, not merely to save any creature. If the opponent has open mana and the board is already good, bait first with a secondary threat; if the board is slipping, commit the protected payoff and force the issue.

Selection And Tutor Rules

  • Selection rule: treat Boros Tokens as a no-true-tutor deck unless Veles exposes a legal search action from a card. Do not invent library access from Frontline Rush, Stadium Headliner, Dalkovan Encampment, Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery, or Fountainport; Card text check required for any visible selection or draw action from those cards.
  • Pseudo-selection rule: use mana, land drops, and activated abilities as the deck's main selection layer. Prioritize plays that convert the current hand into a curved board: one-drop pressure from Hired Claw or Stadium Headliner, then Warleader's Call or Voice of Victory, then Song of Totentanz or Arabella, Abandoned Doll pressure when the board is ready.
  • Land-drop rule: make the land drop before selection or activation when the extra mana changes the legal action set. Choose colored untapped sources before Fountainport or other utility lands when the hand needs red-white sequencing for Warleader's Call, Voice of Victory, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Seam Rip, or Song of Totentanz.
  • Land-hold rule: hold an extra land only when Veles shows a legal discard, filter, or draw action that rewards holding unknown resources. If no such action is visible, play lands to unlock multiple-spell turns, large Song of Totentanz, Fountainport activations, Dalkovan Encampment activations, or postcombat interaction.
  • Draw-activation rule: activate Fountainport or another legal card-draw ability only after checking whether mana is needed this turn for lethal pressure, Dawn's Truce protection, Seam Rip, Erode, Requisition Raid, Hexing Squelcher, or a combat trick. Card text check required for Fountainport, Dalkovan Encampment, and Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery abilities.
  • Bottom/filter rule: if Veles exposes scry, surveil, rummage, or similar selection, keep cards that add bodies, amplify bodies, or answer the visible blocker/engine. Bottom redundant expensive legends, excess lands after the deck can double-spell, and interaction with no visible or expected target; keep Warleader's Call, Voice of Victory, Song of Totentanz, and Arabella, Abandoned Doll when they are the pressure engine.
  • Search rule: if a sideboard or main-deck card exposes a legal search or choose-card action, choose the card that solves the visible bottleneck rather than the highest abstract power card. Find Rest in Peace only against visible graveyard dependence, Erode or Requisition Raid only for visible artifacts/enchantments, Dawn's Truce only for a protection window, and pressure cards when the opponent has no visible engine to answer.

Priority And Stack Rules

  • Priority rule: pass priority when no legal instant-speed action changes damage, protects a key permanent, removes a decisive blocker, answers a stack spell, or uses mana that would otherwise be wasted. Do not cast Seam Rip, Erode, Dawn's Truce, Requisition Raid, Hexing Squelcher, Frontline Rush, or Shocking Sharpshooter from habit; Card text check required for exact timing and targets.
  • Stack rule: let opposing spells resolve when they do not affect the current race, your engine, or the next combat step. Respond only when Veles shows a legal action that preserves lethal, prevents lethal, stops a sweeper/removal spell, removes a combo/lock piece, or converts unused mana into material pressure.
  • Trigger rule: allow Warleader's Call, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, Howlsquad Heavy, Voice of Victory, Goddric, Cloaked Reveler, Delney, Streetwise Lookout, and Sunspine Lynx triggers to resolve unless Veles asks for a legal target, order, or optional choice. Card text check required for every trigger except known Warleader's Call-style token damage and Arabella-style go-wide attack use.
  • Damage-stack rule: treat Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might as a commitment piece for noncombat damage only when Veles-visible text or verified Oracle text confirms the interaction. If Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might and Warleader's Call or Arabella, Abandoned Doll are both visible, reason before committing mana because removal on Ojer may change the damage math.
  • Combat-window rule: use instant-speed actions before attackers only when they unlock attacks or prevent a bad attack, after blockers only when they punish blocks or save lethal attackers, and before damage only when survival or lethal changes. Hold Dawn's Truce or removal through the latest legal window when waiting gives more information without losing the action.
  • Optional-payment rule: decline optional costs or activations that consume mana needed for a visible protection spell, removal spell, target tax, or larger Song of Totentanz line. Pay optional costs only when Veles shows the choice and the payment advances lethal, preserves a key permanent, or spends otherwise unused mana.
  • Graveyard timing rule: cast Rest in Peace before the opponent can use visible graveyard resources, but do not delay a lethal board to answer a graveyard with no current payoff. If Rest in Peace is already on the battlefield, prioritize pressure and avoid spending stack actions on graveyard lines that are already shut off.
  • Activated-ability rule: activate Fountainport, Dalkovan Encampment, Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery, or other utility permanents at the opponent's end step when the ability is legal and mana was not needed for interaction. Activate during your main phase only when the resulting body, card, mana, or effect changes the current legal attack or spell sequence.

Sideboard Map

  • Sideboard discipline: preserve the go-wide core unless the opponents public plan makes a narrow card materially better than another threat. Favor role cards that either protect Warleader's Call, Voice of Victory, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Song of Totentanz, and the token board, or answer a permanent/graveyard axis that Boros Tokens cannot race.

  • Erode: Add role cards: Erode against artifact, enchantment, Aura, Equipment, Room, Class, or hate-permanent strategies when Veles confirms legal targets. Role: cheap answer that lets Boros keep attacking instead of losing to a single engine permanent. When bad: creature-only aggro, planeswalker-heavy control if Erode cannot target the relevant card, and spell-combo with no durable target. Role change: after sideboarding, Erode becomes a protection card for the token engine, not a generic tempo play; hold it for the permanent that stops attacks, lifegain denial, token triggers, or lethal math.

  • Requisition Raid: Add role cards: Requisition Raid against artifact/enchantment engines, token-stalling enchantments, lifegain permanents, and equipment-style combat plans when legal action text confirms the mode and target. Card text check required. Role: sorcery-speed permanent cleanup that should be cast before combat when it unlocks attacks or removes a snowball engine. When bad: low-permanent control, creature mirrors with no artifact/enchantment target, and races where spending a main phase on a narrow answer costs too much damage. Role change: use Requisition Raid to clear blockers or engines before committing Song of Totentanz or Frontline Rush.

  • Goddric, Cloaked Reveler: Add role cards: Goddric, Cloaked Reveler against removal-heavy control, midrange stalls, and opponents that punish a board of small tokens but struggle with a single hasty threat. Card text check required for exact celebration and combat text. Role: post-board pressure that converts multi-permanent turns into a harder-to-block clock. When bad: cheap exile removal, sweepers backed by instant removal, and games where the red mana requirement competes with Warleader's Call plus white interaction. Role change: use Goddric, Cloaked Reveler as a follow-up after forcing removal on Voice of Victory or Warleader's Call, not as the first fragile threat into open mana.

  • Hexing Squelcher: Add role cards: Hexing Squelcher against spell-heavy control, prowess, combo, or decks where its visible text punishes the opponents core action pattern. Card text check required. Role: red hate creature or pressure piece only when Veles-visible text confirms what it disrupts. When bad: board stalls where its text does not affect combat, large-creature midrange, and matchups where it is merely a small body. Role change: if the text taxes or punishes spells, deploy it before the opponents multi-spell turn; if the text is removal-like, hold it for the named visible target class.

  • Rest in Peace: Add role cards: Rest in Peace against reanimation, flashback, escape, descend/delirium-style scaling, death loops, recursive threats, and graveyard-count payoffs. Role: proactive graveyard shutdown that must arrive before the opponent converts public graveyard cards into material. When bad: normal creature combat, artifact/enchantment engines, and matchups where graveyards are incidental. Role change: once Rest in Peace is on board, stop spending decisions on graveyard containment and return to pressure with Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, Voice of Victory, Warleader's Call, and Song of Totentanz.

  • Sunspine Lynx: Add role cards: Sunspine Lynx against lifegain, slow multicolor decks, nonbasic-heavy control, and opponents trying to stabilize above burn or token-combat range. Card text check required for exact damage and life-gain restriction. Role: top-end reach that can punish mana bases and close games after early chip damage. When bad: faster red mirrors, low-curve decks where four mana is too slow, and games where our own nonbasic count makes the exchange unfavorable. Role change: board it as a finisher, not as early interaction; mulligan decisions still need one- and two-mana pressure.

  • Delney, Streetwise Lookout: Add role cards: Delney, Streetwise Lookout against creature midrange, ground stalls, and matchups where small creatures with triggered abilities matter. Card text check required for exact evasion and trigger amplification. Role: engine amplifier for small bodies, especially when Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, Voice of Victory, or other visible triggers benefit. When bad: hard sweepers, removal-heavy control with no board, and races where a three-mana setup card does not affect life total quickly enough. Role change: cast Delney, Streetwise Lookout only when a board or follow-up trigger exists.

  • Dawn's Truce: Add role cards: Dawn's Truce against sweepers, spot-removal-heavy control, alpha-strike mirrors, and turns where protecting a lethal board matters more than adding another creature. Card text check required for exact protection, gift, and timing. Role: protection spell for decisive combats, not routine creature preservation. When bad: opponents with few removal spells, games where mana must be spent developing, and situations where Veles shows no legal protective target or effect. Role change: hold it until the opponent commits removal, a sweeper, or combat damage that changes lethal or survival.

Balanced Anti-Graveyard Plan Side in: 3 Rest in Peace, 1 Dawn's Truce Cut: 1 Erode, 1 Shocking Sharpshooter, 1 Howlsquad Heavy, 1 Seam Rip

  • Plan use: choose this plan when Game 1 or matchup context shows graveyard recursion, reanimation, flashback-style casting, graveyard-count payoffs, or death loops. Rest in Peace supplies the hate axis while Dawn's Truce protects the clock; reducing singleton/narrow pressure keeps the low-curve token shell intact.

Balanced Artifact Or Enchantment Engine Plan Side in: 2 Erode, 2 Requisition Raid Cut: 2 Shocking Sharpshooter, 1 Howlsquad Heavy, 1 Seam Rip

  • Plan use: choose this plan when the opponents public cards include artifacts, enchantments, Rooms, Classes, Auras, Equipment, or hate permanents that prevent attacks or create inevitability. Keep Warleader's Call, Voice of Victory, Song of Totentanz, Frontline Rush, and cheap creatures because answers only matter if the opponent is under pressure.

Balanced Control And Sweeper Plan Side in: 1 Goddric, Cloaked Reveler, 1 Delney, Streetwise Lookout, 1 Dawn's Truce, 2 Sunspine Lynx Cut: 1 Erode, 2 Seam Rip, 1 Shocking Sharpshooter, 1 Howlsquad Heavy

  • Plan use: choose this plan against slow control or removal-heavy midrange when artifacts/enchantments are not the central problem. Goddric, Cloaked Reveler and Sunspine Lynx add closing pressure, Delney, Streetwise Lookout improves small-threat boards, and Dawn's Truce protects the one combat or engine turn that matters.

Conditional Spell-Heavy Hate Plan Side in: 3 Hexing Squelcher, 1 Goddric, Cloaked Reveler, 1 Dawn's Truce Cut: 1 Erode, 2 Seam Rip, 2 Shocking Sharpshooter

  • Plan use: choose this plan only after card text confirms Hexing Squelcher interacts favorably with the opponents spell-heavy plan. Keep fast pressure and do not slow-roll hate if the opponents best turns happen before turn four.

  • Archetype rule: against aggro, Add role cards: Dawn's Truce if protection changes combat, Delney, Streetwise Lookout if small-creature boards matter, Sunspine Lynx only when lifegain or nonbasic punishment is relevant. Reduce main-deck emphasis: slow singletons and narrow interaction with no visible target.

  • Archetype rule: against control, Add role cards: Goddric, Cloaked Reveler, Dawn's Truce, Sunspine Lynx, and Hexing Squelcher if its text punishes their action pattern. Reduce main-deck emphasis: creature removal and artifact/enchantment answers without confirmed targets.

  • Archetype rule: against graveyard decks, Add role cards: Rest in Peace first, then Erode or Requisition Raid only for visible graveyard-enabling permanents. Reduce main-deck emphasis: conditional combat cards that do not shorten the clock or protect hate.

  • Archetype rule: against artifact/enchantment decks, Add role cards: Erode and Requisition Raid before extra threats. Reduce main-deck emphasis: cards whose only job is small creature combat when the matchup is decided by one permanent engine.

  • Archetype rule: against lifegain or nonbasic-heavy midrange, Add role cards: Sunspine Lynx and Dawn's Truce, plus Goddric, Cloaked Reveler when haste pressures planeswalkers or sweepers. Reduce main-deck emphasis: narrow removal and top-end that does not add reach.

Matchup Guidance

  • Aggro: Race with early bodies plus damage amplification, not with slow one-for-one trading. Lead on Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, Voice of Victory, and Song of Totentanz when Veles shows legal development, then make combat decisions around Warleader's Call, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, and Frontline Rush changing damage math. Add role cards: Dawn's Truce when protection decides a combat or sweeper-like damage turn, Delney, Streetwise Lookout when small-creature boards and triggers matter, and Sunspine Lynx only when lifegain or nonbasic punishment is visible or strongly matchup-indicated. Reduce main-deck emphasis: Erode with no target class, slow Howlsquad Heavy lines, and Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might when the game is about board survival before reach.

  • Control: Present staggered threats and punish tap-out turns instead of committing every token into a visible sweeper window. Prioritize Voice of Victory and Warleader's Call when they make future spells or bodies more punishing, use Song of Totentanz and Frontline Rush to rebuild or close after removal, and hold extra threats when the current board already demands an answer. Add role cards: Goddric, Cloaked Reveler, Dawn's Truce, Sunspine Lynx, Delney, Streetwise Lookout, and Hexing Squelcher if card text check confirms it taxes or punishes their spell pattern. Reduce main-deck emphasis: Seam Rip, Shocking Sharpshooter, and Erode unless the opponent shows creatures or permanent types that make those cards live.

  • Combo: Shorten the clock first, then spend interaction only on the visible enabling permanent, creature, graveyard, or stack object that the rules engine identifies as legal to affect. Mulligans should favor one- and two-mana pressure plus Warleader's Call or Song of Totentanz over slow reactive hands, because Boros Tokens rarely wins by waiting. Add role cards: Rest in Peace against graveyard combo, Erode and Requisition Raid against artifact/enchantment combo, Hexing Squelcher only if card text check confirms it disrupts the combos spell pattern, and Dawn's Truce when protecting a lethal board is the fastest answer. Reduce main-deck emphasis: creature-only removal when no legal creature target matters.

  • Tempo: Force them to answer multiple small objects and avoid walking the entire turn into one open-mana interaction point. Prefer Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, and Voice of Victory before expensive plays, and use Fountainport, Dalkovan Encampment, Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery, or Song of Totentanz only when the visible mana and action list support developing without losing the race. Add role cards: Dawn's Truce to beat removal during decisive combat, Goddric, Cloaked Reveler as a resilient pressure angle if confirmed by card text, and Hexing Squelcher if it is live against cheap spells. Reduce main-deck emphasis: slow top-end and narrow answers that do not help resolve or protect pressure.

  • Midrange: Build a board that makes their spot removal inefficient, then identify the turn where Warleader's Call, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Frontline Rush, or Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might converts small damage into a real clock. Trade early only when it preserves life or protects an engine permanent; otherwise keep enough creatures to make token payoffs matter. Add role cards: Delney, Streetwise Lookout for small-creature trigger boards, Sunspine Lynx against lifegain or nonbasic-heavy stabilization, Dawn's Truce against removal-heavy turns, and Goddric, Cloaked Reveler for pressure after attrition. Reduce main-deck emphasis: Erode unless targets exist and Seam Rip when the opponents threats are too large or noncreature.

  • Big mana: Treat every turn before their payoff as a damage race and use interaction only when it attacks the ramp engine or a stabilizing permanent. Hands without early pressure should be questioned even if the mana is smooth, because late Boros Tokens boards can be invalidated by sweepers or oversized threats. Add role cards: Erode and Requisition Raid against artifact/enchantment ramp pieces or lock permanents, Sunspine Lynx against nonbasic-heavy mana, Goddric, Cloaked Reveler for faster closing, and Hexing Squelcher only after card text check confirms relevance. Reduce main-deck emphasis: small creature removal with no ramp target and slow cards that do not increase pre-payoff damage.

  • Graveyard: Deploy Rest in Peace before the opponent converts public graveyard cards into recursive threats, reanimation, flashback-style value, or graveyard-count payoffs. Keep pressure active after hate resolves; do not spend extra turns protecting a graveyard plan that is already shut off unless Veles shows a legal answer or removal spell threatening Rest in Peace. Add role cards: Rest in Peace, Dawn's Truce to protect the clock or hate when legal, and Erode or Requisition Raid only for visible graveyard-enabling artifacts or enchantments. Reduce main-deck emphasis: Shocking Sharpshooter, Howlsquad Heavy, and other cards that do not either clock, protect, or disrupt the graveyard axis.

  • Artifact/enchantment: Keep the aggressive shell intact while answering the permanent that blocks combat, generates inevitability, or invalidates tokens. Erode and Requisition Raid are role cards, not permission to become a control deck; choose them when Veles shows a legal target class or matchup context proves one is likely. Add role cards: Erode, Requisition Raid, and Dawn's Truce if the opponents removal threatens the pressure needed to make answers matter. Reduce main-deck emphasis: Shocking Sharpshooter, Howlsquad Heavy, and Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might when the matchup turns on one artifact or enchantment engine.

  • Go-wide: Win the board-width contest with Warleader's Call, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Frontline Rush, and better attack timing, not by trading every token immediately. Prioritize attacks that preserve enough bodies for future pumps or triggers, and block when life total or an opposing anthem makes racing worse. Add role cards: Delney, Streetwise Lookout if small creatures and triggers matter, Dawn's Truce when one combat decides the game, and Erode or Requisition Raid if their go-wide plan depends on an enchantment, artifact, Room, Equipment, or similar permanent. Reduce main-deck emphasis: narrow single-target removal when it does not change the combat mass.

  • Single-threat: Identify whether the single threat must be raced, removed, or ignored for lethal. Use Seam Rip, Shocking Sharpshooter, Erode, or Requisition Raid only when the visible legal action can affect the threat or its support permanent; otherwise commit to a wide board and force them to answer multiple attackers. Add role cards: Dawn's Truce when protection beats removal or combat damage, Sunspine Lynx if lifegain/nonbasic stabilization is part of the threat plan, and Hexing Squelcher only after card text check confirms relevance. Reduce main-deck emphasis: extra artifact/enchantment answers without a legal target class.

  • Burn: Preserve life total with disciplined blocking, avoid unnecessary pain from lands when alternatives exist, and race with the fastest legal damage lines. Warleader's Call, Song of Totentanz, Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, and Frontline Rush should pressure quickly; do not assume a longer game favors Boros Tokens unless the board is already protected. Add role cards: Dawn's Truce if card text check confirms it prevents or protects from relevant burn/combat damage, Sunspine Lynx only if lifegain prevention or nonbasic punishment is favorable, and Delney, Streetwise Lookout only when it immediately improves the clock. Reduce main-deck emphasis: slow four-mana plans and Erode without targets.

  • Removal-heavy decks: Make their answers line up poorly by sequencing threats across turns and forcing them to answer both permanent engines and token bursts. Voice of Victory, Warleader's Call, Song of Totentanz, Fountainport, Dalkovan Encampment, and Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery help rebuild or diversify pressure when legal actions support them. Add role cards: Dawn's Truce, Goddric, Cloaked Reveler, Delney, Streetwise Lookout, Sunspine Lynx, and Hexing Squelcher if card text check confirms it punishes removal-heavy spell patterns. Reduce main-deck emphasis: creature removal and narrow permanent answers unless the opponent shows must-answer targets.

Specific Matchup Notes

  • General/archetype-only note: Exact opposing decklists are absent, so revealed cards, public zones, legal actions, and Veles engine prompts override all archetype assumptions. Treat sideboarding notes as likely role guidance unless a visible card proves the opponent is on artifacts/enchantments, graveyard recursion, sweepers, burn, go-wide combat, or single-threat stabilization.

  • Aggro and burn: Prioritize early blockers only when they preserve a race; otherwise use Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, Voice of Victory, Song of Totentanz, Warleader's Call, and Frontline Rush to force the opponent into defense. Likely sideboarding adds Dawn's Truce if it protects a decisive combat or damage turn, Sunspine Lynx if nonbasic/lifegain pressure is confirmed by card text, and Delney, Streetwise Lookout only when it immediately increases pressure; reduce Erode and slow top-end without visible targets. Priority targets are haste threats, lifegain engines, anthem effects, and permanents that turn racing unfavorable.

  • Midrange and removal-heavy decks: Sequence threats so one removal spell cannot answer both the board and the payoff, especially by separating Warleader's Call, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might, and token bursts across turns. Likely sideboarding adds Dawn's Truce, Goddric, Cloaked Reveler, Delney, Streetwise Lookout, Sunspine Lynx, and Hexing Squelcher only if card text check confirms the opposing spell pattern matters; reduce narrow removal when it has no legal target. Priority targets are sweepers, lifegain stabilizers, planeswalker-like engines if present, and blockers that stop multiple attackers.

  • Control and sweepers: Pressure before holding up protection, because Boros Tokens loses equity when it waits without adding damage. Commit enough creatures to demand an answer, but avoid spending every Song of Totentanz, Fountainport, Dalkovan Encampment, and Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery line into a visible or strongly signaled sweeper. Likely sideboarding adds Dawn's Truce, Goddric, Cloaked Reveler, Hexing Squelcher after card text check, and Sunspine Lynx against nonbasic-heavy stabilization; reduce Seam Rip and Shocking Sharpshooter if they lack targets. Priority targets are sweepers, card-advantage engines, and life-gain or lock permanents.

  • Graveyard decks: Deploy Rest in Peace when the opponents public graveyard or revealed cards show recursion, reanimation, flashback-style value, or graveyard-count payoffs. Keep attacking after Rest in Peace resolves; hate without pressure gives the opponent time to find an answer. Likely sideboarding adds Rest in Peace and possibly Dawn's Truce to protect the clock; reduce Shocking Sharpshooter, Howlsquad Heavy, or narrow removal if they do not affect the graveyard race. Priority targets are graveyard engines, sacrifice outlets, self-mill payoffs, and any visible answer to Rest in Peace.

  • Artifact/enchantment decks: Answer only the permanent that blocks combat, creates inevitability, or invalidates tokens. Likely sideboarding adds Erode and Requisition Raid, with Dawn's Truce if removal threatens the pressure; reduce low-impact creature removal and slow closers when the matchup turns on one permanent class. Priority targets are artifact/enchantment engines, token-hate permanents, lifegain engines, Rooms if relevant, Equipment if relevant, and lock pieces.

  • Big mana and ramp: Mulligan soft hands more aggressively, because late boards can be invalidated by sweepers or oversized threats. Likely sideboarding adds Erode, Requisition Raid, Sunspine Lynx, Goddric, Cloaked Reveler, and Hexing Squelcher only after card text check confirms relevance; reduce small removal without ramp targets. Priority targets are ramp permanents, mana artifacts, stabilizing enchantments, lifegain, and first payoff that prevents lethal.

Risk Summary

  • Mana risk: Boros Tokens needs red and white early, and hands with only awkward tapped lands can miss the critical Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, Voice of Victory, Warleader's Call, or Song of Totentanz curve. Use Inspiring Vantage and Sacred Foundry sequencing carefully, avoid unnecessary life loss against burn, and treat Fountainport, Dalkovan Encampment, and Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery as utility only after colored requirements are covered.

  • Matchup risk: The deck can look favored while wide but lose suddenly to sweepers, lifegain, or a single larger stabilizer. Do not assume tokens alone are enough; convert boards through Warleader's Call, Frontline Rush, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might, or exact lethal attacks when legal actions show them.

  • Draw risk: Token bursts are weaker without payoff permanents, and payoff permanents are weaker without bodies. Mulligan hands that have neither pressure nor a clear engine, and avoid spending Song of Totentanz into low-impact boards unless it changes the clock or enables a follow-up.

  • Over-sideboarding risk: Do not dilute the creature-token core with too many Erode, Requisition Raid, Rest in Peace, Hexing Squelcher, Sunspine Lynx, Goddric, Cloaked Reveler, Delney, Streetwise Lookout, or Dawn's Truce. Sideboard cards must answer a visible axis or improve the clock; otherwise keep main-deck pressure intact.

  • Graveyard risk: Rest in Peace can be necessary but can also be a tempo loss if the opponent is not actually using the graveyard. Confirm the graveyard axis through revealed cards, public zones, or matchup evidence before reducing proactive cards.

  • Sweeper/removal risk: Overcommitting every token maker into open mana can lose the game, but undercommitting can let control stabilize. Force action with layered threats, keep a rebuild source when possible, and use Dawn's Truce only when Veles shows a legal protective line.

  • Closer risk: Games can stall if the deck makes bodies without a damage amplifier. Preserve Warleader's Call, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Frontline Rush, and Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might for turns where they convert visible attackers or token entries into lethal pressure.

  • Interaction and sequencing risk: Erode, Seam Rip, Shocking Sharpshooter, and Requisition Raid are only useful when legal targets matter. Respect Veles legality output, do not invent targets, and choose interaction over development only when it prevents stabilization, unlocks combat, or protects lethal.

Test Feedback Checklist

  • Deciding factor: Identify whether each win came from early creature pressure, a wide Song of Totentanz turn, Warleader's Call damage, Frontline Rush combat conversion, Arabella, Abandoned Doll reach, Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might reach, or opponent stumbling. Record the visible turn where the game became favorable.

  • Deciding factor: Identify whether each loss came from mana stumble, missed colored source, too many tapped lands, sweeper exposure, lifegain, graveyard engine, artifact/enchantment engine, oversized blocker, or failure to find a payoff. Tie the loss to public board state rather than hidden assumptions.

  • Mulligans: Check whether keep decisions required both early pressure and a payoff path. Flag hands that kept only payoffs such as Warleader's Call, Frontline Rush, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, or Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might without enough bodies.

  • Mana: Track whether Inspiring Vantage, Sacred Foundry, Sundown Pass, Mountain, Fountainport, Dalkovan Encampment, and Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery sequencing produced timely red and white. Record every game where utility lands delayed Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, Voice of Victory, Song of Totentanz, or Warleader's Call.

  • Velocity: Measure whether the deck spent the first three turns adding board presence or lost tempo to reactive cards. Flag draws where Erode, Seam Rip, or Shocking Sharpshooter sat in hand without meaningful legal targets.

  • Engines: Record whether Warleader's Call, Song of Totentanz, Voice of Victory, Fountainport, Dalkovan Encampment, and Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery created enough bodies or damage to justify their timing. Card text check required before assigning exact engine credit for any ambiguous trigger or activated ability.

  • Removal: Record whether Erode, Seam Rip, Shocking Sharpshooter, and Requisition Raid answered the permanent that actually changed combat or inevitability. Mark removal as underperforming when it targeted a low-impact card while a stabilizer remained visible.

  • Sideboard: Compare sideboarded games against pre-board games by clock speed, threat density, and stranded cards. Flag over-sideboarding when Rest in Peace, Hexing Squelcher, Sunspine Lynx, Goddric, Cloaked Reveler, Delney, Streetwise Lookout, Dawn's Truce, Erode, or Requisition Raid reduced pressure without answering a proven axis.

  • Closing: Check whether lethal turns used all visible legal damage sources before passing priority. Review missed lethal candidates involving Frontline Rush, Warleader's Call, Song of Totentanz, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might, and attacks with tokens.

  • Role: Verify whether the pilot correctly stayed aggressive against slow decks and shifted to preservation only when racing math or visible sweepers demanded it. Record spots where Hired Claw, Stadium Headliner, Voice of Victory, or Howlsquad Heavy should have attacked, blocked, or stayed back.

  • Mistakes: Review every pass with open mana, every declined attack, and every nonlethal interaction spell. Classify mistakes as legality misunderstanding, combat math, mana sequencing, threat timing, sideboard plan, or hidden-information overreach.

  • Stranded cards: Count games where Frontline Rush lacked attackers, Warleader's Call lacked bodies, Song of Totentanz lacked payoff, Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might was too slow, or Dawn's Truce had no decisive legal use. Use these counts before changing quantities.

  • Overperformers and underperformers: Name exact cards that materially changed wins or losses, not broad roles. Separate main-deck findings from sideboard findings so a strong Rest in Peace game does not justify weakening the base pressure plan.

First Tuning Questions

  • Quantity question: Does Boros Tokens need the full 4 Frontline Rush, 4 Warleader's Call, 4 Song of Totentanz, 4 Hired Claw, 4 Voice of Victory, and 4 Stadium Headliner, or is one package causing clunky duplicate draws?

  • Mana question: Are Fountainport, Dalkovan Encampment, and Painter's Studio // Defaced Gallery winning enough games to justify the colored-mana strain, especially when hands need early red and white for Hired Claw, Voice of Victory, Stadium Headliner, Song of Totentanz, and Warleader's Call?

  • Aggro-plan question: Is Howlsquad Heavy or Shocking Sharpshooter improving creature mirrors, or would more one- and two-mana pressure better preserve the deck's clock? Card text check required before converting this into a cut/add recommendation.

  • Control-plan question: Is Dawn's Truce enough protection against sweepers and removal-heavy decks, or does the sideboard need more resilient threats like Goddric, Cloaked Reveler or Delney, Streetwise Lookout? Card text check required before trusting either card as the correct anti-control tool.

  • Closer question: Does Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might close stalled games often enough as a one-of, or is it stranded while Frontline Rush, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, and Warleader's Call already cover reach?

  • Interaction question: Are main-deck Erode, Seam Rip, and Shocking Sharpshooter hitting important legal targets often enough, or should the main deck bias harder toward proactive token pressure with artifact/enchantment answers mostly in the sideboard?

  • Sideboard-slot question: Are 3 Rest in Peace necessary in the tested field, or are graveyard matchups rare enough that one slot should become broader protection, removal, or a closer?

  • Sideboard-slot question: Are 3 Hexing Squelcher producing verified wins against the intended spell pattern, or are they speculative cards that dilute pressure? Card text check required before changing count.

  • Sideboard-slot question: Are 2 Sunspine Lynx punishing the expected mana/lifegain decks, or would another Requisition Raid, Dawn's Truce, or threat be more frequently live? Card text check required for exact matchup role.

  • Role-conflict question: Does the deck sideboard into a worse midrange deck too often by adding Rest in Peace, Erode, Requisition Raid, Hexing Squelcher, Sunspine Lynx, Goddric, Cloaked Reveler, Delney, Streetwise Lookout, and Dawn's Truce together? Preserve the token-pressure core unless logs show the matchup is decided by a specific axis.

  • Closing question: When games are lost after stabilizing with tokens, is the missing piece damage amplification, evasion, protection, or removal for one blocker? Use this answer to tune Frontline Rush, Arabella, Abandoned Doll, Warleader's Call, Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might, Seam Rip, and Shocking Sharpshooter quantities.
