Strategy Specifications

Deck Name And Archetype

  • Deck identity: Falls is a Simic Pauper Commander deck built around Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty as the commander, with a main plan of accelerating mana, casting oversized threats, and converting six-plus-mana spells into cascading pressure when the rules engine exposes those legal actions. Treat the commander as the deck's strategic center, but never assume commander availability, commander tax, cascade resolution, or cast timing unless Veles shows the legal action and current visible state supports it.

  • Format validation: Active format is Pauper Commander, with Main (100) and Sideboard (10). The provided format-aware validation contract says the list passes: exactly 100 main-deck cards, singleton main deck outside basic lands, and a 10-card Veles policy sideboard. Do not report 60-card constructed deck-size concerns for this command-zone format.

  • Registered commander and colors: Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty defines the deck's Simic identity for piloting purposes, supported by Command Tower, Thornwood Falls, Evolving Wilds, Terramorphic Expanse, 15 Forest, and 14 Island. Mana sequencing must respect green ramp needs early and blue interaction/card-selection needs later; keep decisions grounded in legal land, artifact, and spell actions exposed by the engine.

  • Archetype tags: Use ramp as the primary operational tag and tribal as a user-supplied secondary tag. The visible list reads more like rogue Simic ramp/top-end than a tight creature-type tribal deck, so the pilot should not overvalue creature-type cohesion unless a visible card, matchup guide, or legal action makes that synergy explicit.

  • Stock/rogue status: Classify Falls as a rogue-to-hybrid Pauper Commander ramp deck, not a stock format staple shell. It contains familiar ramp and selection tools such as Explore, Growth Spiral, Rampant Growth, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Skyshroud Claim, Preordain, Serum Visions, and Opt, but the win plan is deck-specific: stabilize, reach large mana, deploy high-cost threats, and use Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty to turn expensive casts into compounding board or resource advantage.

  • Primary role concern: Falls is not a pure control deck despite having Forceful Denial, Vapor Snag, Lignify, Utter Insignificance, Scour from Existence, and sideboard counters. Default posture should be proactive ramp into pressure, with interaction reserved for threats that race the top end, stop the commander plan, or invalidate combat.

  • Mana concern: The deck has many expensive spells, including Annoyed Altisaur, Maelstrom Colossus, Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, Spined Megalodon, Walker of the Grove, Timberland Ancient, Greater Sandwurm, Greater Tanuki, and Generous Ent. Mulligans and early turns must punish hands that have only top-end and no credible path to early mana development.

  • Legality concern: Several cards have alternate faces, landcycling, cycling, affinity, convoke, suspend, prototype-style or cost-reduction-like play patterns, or modal/adventure-style names, including Sword Coast Serpent // Capsizing Wave, Dread Linnorm // Scale Deflection, Tolarian Terror, Gearseeker Serpent, Spire Golem, Tangle Golem, Siege Wurm, Errant Ephemeron, Krosan Tusker, Elvish Aberration, Generous Ent, and Greater Tanuki. The pilot must choose only legal engine-listed actions and must not infer that a discount, alternate cost, or mode is available from deck identity alone.

  • Sideboard status: The registered sideboard is exactly 10 cards: Hydroblast, Witness Protection, Unsummon, Blue Elemental Blast, Dispel, Negate, Weather the Storm, Return to Nature, Scattershot Archer, and Relic of Progenitus. Sideboard guidance must use only those names for cards brought in and only registered main-deck names for cards removed.

  • Opponent information status: No specific opponent deck is supplied for this guide batch. Runtime matchup decisions must therefore rely on visible permanents, revealed cards, public graveyards, commander identity if visible, logged game actions, and Veles matchup metadata when available; do not invent hidden cards, expected staples, removal suites, or commander protection unless they are observed or named as opponent: examples outside policy Cards: fields.

  • Guide quality gate: This specification is deck-specific to Falls and should teach an MTG decision agent to prioritize early mana, commander timing, high-cost spell conversion, and disciplined interaction. Any tactical claim about exact card text that is not visible through the rules engine should be treated as conditional or marked for card text verification in later sections.

Thesis

Falls assembles early Simic mana, commander access to Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, and a critical mass of expensive creatures/spells that turn each six-plus-mana cast into pressure, material, or card advantage when the engine exposes the relevant legal actions. Prioritize hands and lines that develop green mana first, add blue mana without slowing ramp, and reach turns where Annoyed Altisaur, Maelstrom Colossus, Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, Spined Megalodon, Walker of the Grove, Greater Sandwurm, Greater Tanuki, Generous Ent, Timberland Ancient, or Read the Tides can matter.

Falls wins by making mana count more than the opponent's early tempo: ramp, landcycle or select to hit land drops, cast Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty when the board and mana allow, then chain large legal casts into board advantage and combat pressure. Treat Rush of Knowledge, Mulldrifter, Treasure Cruise, Preordain, Serum Visions, Opt, Sigiled Starfish, and Darksteel Pendant as ways to keep the top-end pipeline full rather than as an excuse to play a slow control game.

Falls is not trying to trade one-for-one forever, protect a tiny evasive clock as its only plan, or hold up countermagic at the cost of missing ramp turns. Use Forceful Denial, Vapor Snag, Lignify, Utter Insignificance, Scour from Existence, Aethersnipe, and sideboard interaction to buy the time needed for large spells, not to drift into pass-heavy play while the opponent improves their board.

Falls should prioritize visible survival over speculative value whenever the opponent presents a short clock. Block with replaceable bodies, deploy Crashing Drawbridge or medium creatures to stabilize, and spend removal or bounce on threats that invalidate the big-mana plan; only delay interaction for commander payoff when life total, blockers, and open mana make that delay credible.

Role Package

  • Threats: Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, Maelstrom Colossus, Annoyed Altisaur, Spined Megalodon, Walker of the Grove, Greater Sandwurm, Timberland Ancient, Colossal Dreadmaw, Siege Wurm, It of the Horrid Swarm, Tangle Golem, Thundering Tanadon, Wretched Gryff, Gearseeker Serpent, Tolarian Terror, Spire Golem, and Errant Ephemeron are the main bodies that end games or force trades. Cast them when mana is stable and the board needs pressure; do not strand early development just to protect a later perfect cascade turn.

  • Payoffs: Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty is the deck's central payoff, and high-cost spells are the fuel. Rush of Knowledge is a payoff when a large permanent is visible, while Read the Tides, Aethersnipe, Sword Coast Serpent // Capsizing Wave, Dread Linnorm // Scale Deflection, and Scour from Existence can swing tempo if their legal modes and targets are exposed. Card text check required for exact tactical use of Slavering Branchsnapper, Snapping Voidcraw, Timberland Ancient, Generous Ent, and Dread Linnorm // Scale Deflection; treat their role as conditional until Veles shows text or legal actions.

  • Engines: Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty plus repeated expensive casts is the only true engine, so protect the engine by sequencing mana before commander dependency. Crashing Drawbridge can convert large creatures into immediate pressure if its ability is legal, while Whispersilk Cloak can turn one oversized threat into a closing plan when equip timing is legal and the opponent lacks visible answers.

  • Velocity: Preordain, Serum Visions, Opt, Explore, Growth Spiral, Coiling Oracle, Mulldrifter, Treasure Cruise, Mental Journey, Krosan Tusker, Elvish Aberration, Greater Tanuki, Generous Ent, Halimar Depths, Darksteel Pendant, and Sigiled Starfish help find lands, ramp, or payoff density. Use cheap selection early to fix mana and late to find either a finisher or the specific answer the visible board demands.

  • Interaction: Lignify, Utter Insignificance, Vapor Snag, Forceful Denial, Aethersnipe, Scour from Existence, Natural Reclamation, and Mirrorshell Crab form the main interactive package. Spend them on commanders, lethal attackers, snowballing engines, or blockers that stop a decisive large-creature attack; avoid using premium answers on low-impact creatures unless life total or combat math requires it.

  • Protection: Whispersilk Cloak, Dread Linnorm // Scale Deflection, Mirrorshell Crab, Forceful Denial, and sideboard counters can protect a key turn, but only if Veles shows the relevant legal action. Prefer protecting Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty or a lethal/evasive threat over protecting routine ramp creatures.

  • Recursion / graveyard resource: Falls has no clear registered true recursion engine, so do not plan around replaying spent cards unless the rules engine exposes a legal action. Treat the graveyard mainly as a resource for Treasure Cruise and any visible legal cost reduction on cards such as Tolarian Terror; do not consume graveyard cards if a stronger visible future use is already available.

  • Mana: Rampant Growth, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Skyshroud Claim, Wood Elves, Farhaven Elf, Coiling Oracle, Explore, Growth Spiral, Fellwar Stone, Arcane Signet, Simic Signet, Mind Stone, Seer's Lantern, Krosan Drover, Command Tower, Thornwood Falls, Evolving Wilds, Terramorphic Expanse, Tranquil Thicket, Lonely Sandbar, Forest, and Island are the functional base. Keep lines that hit land drops and unlock both colors ahead of speculative top-end keeps.

  • Sideboard modules: Hydroblast and Blue Elemental Blast are red-pressure tools; Dispel and Negate fight stack-based interaction or noncreature engines; Witness Protection, Unsummon, and Return to Nature add flexible board answers; Weather the Storm buys time against burst damage; Scattershot Archer addresses small flying pressure; Relic of Progenitus checks graveyard plans while requiring care around Falls's own Treasure Cruise and graveyard-cost cards.

Primary Win Conditions

  • Commander cascade pressure: set up Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty after reaching stable green-blue mana, then cast six-plus-mana spells such as Annoyed Altisaur, Maelstrom Colossus, Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, Spined Megalodon, Walker of the Grove, Greater Sandwurm, Greater Tanuki, Timberland Ancient, Generous Ent, Read the Tides, or Aethersnipe to convert each legal cast into extra material. Prioritize this path when life total is not under immediate lethal pressure, the opponent is not presenting obvious open stack interaction, and the hand contains either another large spell or card draw to continue the chain.

  • Large-creature combat closes most games: use Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Rampant Growth, Skyshroud Claim, Wood Elves, Farhaven Elf, Coiling Oracle, Arcane Signet, Simic Signet, Fellwar Stone, Mind Stone, and Seer's Lantern to reach the first oversized threat ahead of curve, then attack with bodies that outsize normal Pauper Commander boards. Execute with patient attacks when blockers trade poorly for the opponent; protect the clock with Vapor Snag, Lignify, Aethersnipe, Scour from Existence, or Utter Insignificance only when Veles shows legal answers to the blocker or threat that matters.

  • Cascade redundancy wins even without the commander: Annoyed Altisaur and Maelstrom Colossus still provide high-impact legal casts, and threats such as Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, Colossal Dreadmaw, Siege Wurm, It of the Horrid Swarm, Tangle Golem, Thundering Tanadon, Spire Golem, Gearseeker Serpent, Tolarian Terror, and Errant Ephemeron can win by forcing repeated blocks. Prioritize this path when Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty is removed, commander tax is too high, or the opponent is spending resources answering the command zone instead of the battlefield.

  • Draw-into-threats is the control-breaker: cast Rush of Knowledge after a large visible permanent, use Mulldrifter, Treasure Cruise, Read the Tides, Mental Journey, Krosan Tusker, Preordain, Serum Visions, Opt, Sigiled Starfish, Darksteel Pendant, and Halimar Depths to keep finding lands and finishers. Prioritize this path against attrition or removal-heavy opponents, but do not take a slow draw line when the visible board requires a blocker or removal spell first.

Secondary Win Conditions

  • Evasive single-threat pressure is the backup closer: Whispersilk Cloak can make one large creature a decisive clock when equip is legal and the opponent has no visible answer, especially on Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, Spined Megalodon, Greater Sandwurm, or another oversized body. Use this line when the ground is stalled, not when spending equip mana would skip a required stabilizing spell.

  • Haste conversion can steal tempo: Crashing Drawbridge can turn newly cast large creatures into immediate attacks if Veles exposes the relevant legal activation. Prioritize this when a fresh threat plus haste changes the race, pressures a planeswalker-like permanent if one is present, or punishes an opponent who tapped low; do not rely on this if the artifact is summoning-sick or the action is absent.

  • Cost-reduced threats provide fallback pressure: Tangle Golem, Spire Golem, Gearseeker Serpent, Tolarian Terror, Siege Wurm, and Wretched Gryff may become cheaper through lands, artifacts, graveyard, convoke, emerge, or other visible cost mechanics. Card text check required for exact reductions and costs at runtime; use them as tempo plays when the engine confirms legal casts that leave mana for interaction or another spell.

  • Tempo bounce can become lethal reach without burn: Vapor Snag, Aethersnipe, Sword Coast Serpent // Capsizing Wave, and Read the Tides can clear blockers or reset a key permanent when their legal targets are visible. Use bounce to open a decisive attack or buy a full turn; avoid bouncing low-impact permanents when the opponent can simply recast them and continue pressuring life.

  • Small creatures chip only when safe: Delver of Secrets // Insectile Aberration, Coiling Oracle, Farhaven Elf, Wood Elves, Fierce Empath, and Krosan Drover are not the primary damage plan, but they can add pressure after ramping or tutoring roles are complete. Attack with them only when trades do not reduce needed mana, blockers, or future emerge/convoke material.

Emergency Lines

  • Behind on life: prioritize blockers, removal, and bounce before commander value. Cast medium bodies like Colossal Dreadmaw, Tangle Golem, Spire Golem, Wretched Gryff, or Gearseeker Serpent when they block now, and spend Lignify, Vapor Snag, Aethersnipe, Scour from Existence, or Utter Insignificance on the threat that most changes the next combat step.

  • Behind on board: stabilize first, then resume ramp. Do not tap out for Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty if the opponent can attack for lethal or force disastrous blocks; prefer a legal large blocker, bounce spell, or removal spell, then use the next safe turn to rebuild the cascade engine.

  • Behind on cards: turn selection into material, not perfection. Use Rush of Knowledge with a large permanent, cast Mulldrifter or Treasure Cruise when legal, and use Preordain, Serum Visions, Opt, Sigiled Starfish, Darksteel Pendant, Mental Journey, and Krosan Tusker to find lands plus a real stabilizer rather than bottoming into speculative top-end only.

  • Behind on mana: search for basics and preserve land drops over flashy plays. Prioritize Rampant Growth, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Skyshroud Claim, Wood Elves, Farhaven Elf, Coiling Oracle, Explore, Growth Spiral, Evolving Wilds, and Terramorphic Expanse; cycle Tranquil Thicket or Lonely Sandbar only when land count and color access are already sufficient.

  • Engine removed or commander taxed: stop forcing the command zone and win with standalone threats. Cast the best legal body each turn, use Fierce Empath to find a large creature if available, and reserve interaction for blockers or lethal threats rather than protecting a delayed commander recast.

  • Graveyard resources contested: treat the graveyard as optional fuel, not a required recursion plan. Falls has no reliable registered recursion engine, so if Relic of Progenitus-style pressure or exile effects appear, shift toward hand and battlefield threats; use Treasure Cruise or graveyard-cost creatures only when Veles confirms legal payment and the current payoff is worth consuming the graveyard.

Resource Model

  • Life is a setup buffer, not a payment resource: spend early turns taking some damage if the exchange produces lasting mana from Rampant Growth, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Skyshroud Claim, Wood Elves, Farhaven Elf, Coiling Oracle, Arcane Signet, Simic Signet, Fellwar Stone, Mind Stone, or Seer's Lantern. When the visible clock is short, stop maximizing ramp and prioritize a blocker, Vapor Snag, Lignify, Aethersnipe, Utter Insignificance, or Scour from Existence if Veles shows a legal answer.

  • Hand cards should convert into mana first, then cascade pressure: early cantrips and selection are strongest when they find missing lands or a ramp piece before Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty. Preserve at least one payoff if possible, because Rush of Knowledge, Treasure Cruise, Read the Tides, Mulldrifter, Mental Journey, Krosan Tusker, Opt, Preordain, Serum Visions, Sigiled Starfish, Darksteel Pendant, and Halimar Depths matter most when they bridge into a real threat rather than cycling without a follow-up.

  • Mana is the deck's primary resource advantage: convert lands and artifacts into turns where a five-plus mana spell is cast ahead of schedule, especially while Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty is available. Treat commander tax as a real cost; if recasting Imoti delays Annoyed Altisaur, Maelstrom Colossus, Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, or another stabilizing body while behind, use the standalone threat line instead.

  • Board material has separate jobs: ramp creatures can attack only after their mana or blocking role is no longer important, while large creatures are both finishers and shields. Keep Crashing Drawbridge alive when haste changes the race, protect enough bodies for Siege Wurm or other legal convoke-style costs when Veles exposes them, and do not trade away small creatures if they are needed for blocking, emerge payment, or future pressure.

  • Graveyard is conditional fuel, not a recursion engine: Treasure Cruise, Tolarian Terror, Gearseeker Serpent, Wretched Gryff, and similar cost-reduction lines may care about visible graveyard or artifact counts, but Falls should not assume it can recover cards from the graveyard. Exile graveyard cards only when the engine confirms the legal payment and the resulting spell is worth reducing future graveyard-fuel options.

  • Exile must be treated as rules-engine territory: adventure-style or temporary-permission cards such as Sword Coast Serpent // Capsizing Wave, Dread Linnorm // Scale Deflection, or any card moved to exile should be used only through legal actions Veles exposes. Do not assume a card in exile is castable, protected, or permanently available unless the visible state and legal action list say so.

  • Lands are both color access and spell-count acceleration: basics support Tangle Golem, Spire Golem, ramp search, and stable commander colors, while Evolving Wilds, Terramorphic Expanse, Thornwood Falls, Halimar Depths, Tranquil Thicket, Lonely Sandbar, and Command Tower add utility at different tempo costs. Cycle Tranquil Thicket or Lonely Sandbar only after land drops and colors are already secure.

  • Sideboard bullets are narrow resource converters: Hydroblast, Blue Elemental Blast, Dispel, Negate, Unsummon, Witness Protection, Weather the Storm, Return to Nature, Scattershot Archer, and Relic of Progenitus should trade for the opposing resource they actually constrain. Do not dilute the ramp-plus-threat core for a bullet unless that matchup makes the bullet's target visible, recurring, or strategically central.

Mana Guide

  • Keep hands that produce both green and blue by the early turns or have a legal route to them: green enables Rampant Growth, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Skyshroud Claim, Wood Elves, Farhaven Elf, Explore, Growth Spiral, and many large creatures; blue enables Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, cantrips, bounce, counters, and card draw. Mulligan hands that have only expensive spells, only one color with no fixing, or no credible play before turn three unless Veles shows an unusually strong legal sequence.

  • Lead with untapped color access when it changes the turn-two play: prefer an untapped Forest for green ramp or an untapped Island for Preordain, Serum Visions, or Opt over a slower utility land if the spell matters this turn. Play Thornwood Falls, Halimar Depths, Tranquil Thicket, or Lonely Sandbar early when tapped tempo is least costly, but avoid tapped lands when they prevent a legal ramp spell or interaction spell.

  • Treat Command Tower as the cleanest color-stability land when the hand needs both green and blue on curve. Use it to unlock the next two turns of Rampant Growth, Growth Spiral, Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, or blue interaction before cycling Tranquil Thicket or Lonely Sandbar; choose a basic or fetch line instead only when Evolving Wilds, Terramorphic Expanse, or a ramp spell needs a specific basic for future sequencing.

  • Use fetch lands to fix the next two turns, not only the current turn: Evolving Wilds and Terramorphic Expanse should usually find the missing color, then support basic-count payoffs and future ramp search constraints. If Halimar Depths, Preordain, Serum Visions, Opt, Sigiled Starfish, or Darksteel Pendant has arranged a top card, consider whether shuffling destroys useful information before cracking a fetch.

  • Play land before draw when the land drop is already known and mana is needed immediately: cast Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Skyshroud Claim, Wood Elves, Farhaven Elf, or a mana rock on curve rather than holding a land for marginal selection value. Draw or scry before land when Explore, Growth Spiral, Coiling Oracle, Preordain, Serum Visions, Opt, Sigiled Starfish, Darksteel Pendant, Halimar Depths, Mental Journey, or Krosan Tusker can reveal the correct land choice or determine whether a tapped utility land is safe.

  • Sequence mana rocks around color pressure: Arcane Signet, Simic Signet, and Fellwar Stone can fix commander colors, while Mind Stone and Seer's Lantern are more about reaching large colorless requirements and later card flow. Prefer colored fixing before generic acceleration when the hand contains Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, Growth Spiral, Forceful Denial, Read the Tides, or multiple blue spells.

  • Preserve interaction mana only when it changes the visible turn cycle: leaving blue for Vapor Snag, Forceful Denial, Opt, Hydroblast, Blue Elemental Blast, Dispel, Negate, or Unsummon is correct when the opponent can present a relevant spell, attacker, or combo step. Tap out for ramp or a threat when the opponent's visible board and public information do not justify holding up a narrow answer.

Mulligan Guide

  • Strong keep: keep three-land hands with both colors plus one accelerator such as Rampant Growth, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Skyshroud Claim, Arcane Signet, Simic Signet, Fellwar Stone, Mind Stone, Wood Elves, or Farhaven Elf. These hands reliably cast Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty or a standalone five-plus mana threat while still leaving room for Preordain, Serum Visions, Opt, Coiling Oracle, or Growth Spiral to smooth the next turn.

  • Strong keep: keep two-land hands with Forest, blue access or fixing, and a turn-two play that finds mana. Forest plus Island with Rampant Growth, Explore, Growth Spiral, Coiling Oracle, Arcane Signet, or Simic Signet is functional; Evolving Wilds or Terramorphic Expanse counts as the missing color only if the rest of the hand still curves.

  • Medium keep: keep a slower three-land hand with selection and one expensive payoff if the colors are stable. Halimar Depths, Preordain, Serum Visions, Opt, Sigiled Starfish, or Darksteel Pendant can make hands with Annoyed Altisaur, Maelstrom Colossus, Ulamog's Crusher, Tolarian Terror, Gearseeker Serpent, or Rush of Knowledge acceptable, but the first priority is still reaching mana rather than protecting a perfect top card.

  • Risky keep: keep one-land hands only on the draw when the hand contains a land-finding or deep-selection path that Veles can actually execute. Forest plus Preordain is not castable; Island plus Rampant Growth is not castable; a one-land hand usually needs Opt, Preordain, or Serum Visions with blue mana and multiple hits, or Evolving Wilds with cheap follow-up selection.

  • Automatic ship: mulligan hands with no land, one land and no legal selection, no green source or fixing, no blue source or fixing plus a blue-heavy hand, or four-plus expensive spells without early mana. Hands full of Scour from Existence, Eldrazi Devastator, Ulamog's Crusher, Spined Megalodon, Greater Sandwurm, Walker of the Grove, and Maelstrom Colossus lose before Falls becomes Falls.

  • Matchup-dependent keep: against fast creature pressure, prefer hands with early bodies or cheap interaction over pure tapped-land setup. Coiling Oracle, Farhaven Elf, Wood Elves, Crashing Drawbridge, Vapor Snag, Lignify, Utter Insignificance, and Aethersnipe matter more than speculative Treasure Cruise or slow cycling.

  • Matchup-dependent keep: against slower control or removal-heavy opponents, prefer mana density, card flow, and redundant threats. Hands with Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Skyshroud Claim, Rush of Knowledge, Read the Tides, Treasure Cruise, Mulldrifter, and a large creature are better than hands relying on one fragile early creature.

  • Play/draw adjustment: on the play, require a turn-two or turn-three mana development action unless the hand has premium selection. On the draw, accept one more tapped land, cycling land, or high-end spell if the hand already has both colors and a clear route to four mana.

  • Trap hand: do not keep a hand that has Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty access in theory but no way to reach five mana on time. Command Tower, Lonely Sandbar, Halimar Depths, Read the Tides, Rush of Knowledge, Annoyed Altisaur, and Eldrazi Devastator looks powerful but is too slow without acceleration.

Turn Arc

  • Turn 1: play the land that unlocks the next legal spell. Prefer Forest when holding Rampant Growth, Explore, Growth Spiral, or Coiling Oracle; prefer Island when holding Preordain, Serum Visions, or Opt; use Evolving Wilds or Terramorphic Expanse immediately when the hand needs a missing color and no top-card setup is being preserved.

  • Turn 1 deviation: use Halimar Depths, Tranquil Thicket, Lonely Sandbar, or Thornwood Falls early when tapped tempo does not break turn two. Do not cycle Tranquil Thicket or Lonely Sandbar this early unless Veles shows land abundance and missing action, because Falls needs land drops more than marginal velocity.

  • Turn 2: cast the legal accelerator before cosmetic selection when mana is constrained. Rampant Growth, Explore, Growth Spiral, Coiling Oracle, Arcane Signet, Simic Signet, Fellwar Stone, and Mind Stone are preferred over holding mana for Opt unless interaction or color discovery changes the visible turn.

  • Turn 2 deviation: cast Vapor Snag, Lignify, or Utter Insignificance only when the opposing permanent or attack materially threatens the ramp window. If the opponent is not pressuring life, commander access, or a key engine, develop mana first.

  • Turn 3: convert ramp into stable four-mana access or board presence. Preferred plays are Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Farhaven Elf, Wood Elves, Seer's Lantern, Krosan Drover, Fierce Empath, or a second cheap spell plus land drop; choose Fierce Empath only when the visible hand and mana make a tutored large creature relevant soon.

  • Turn 3 deviation: play Crashing Drawbridge when haste will turn a coming large creature into immediate pressure or stabilize a race. Otherwise, do not spend the turn on low-impact permanents if ramp or fixing is available.

  • Turns 4-5: cast Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty when the next turn can convert into a five-plus mana spell or when commander pressure is safe enough. If the opponent can remove Imoti and the hand already has Annoyed Altisaur, Tangle Golem, Spire Golem, Tolarian Terror, Gearseeker Serpent, Thundering Tanadon, or Mulldrifter, consider deploying the standalone spell first.

  • Turns 4-5 deviation: hold up Forceful Denial, Vapor Snag, Dread Linnorm // Scale Deflection, or sideboard counters only when Veles shows a meaningful stack, attacker, or known opposing plan. Tap out for Skyshroud Claim, Rush of Knowledge, Read the Tides, or a threat when the visible board does not punish the shields-down turn.

  • Late game: chain mana into cascade-scale threats and card reloads. Prioritize Annoyed Altisaur, Maelstrom Colossus, Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, Greater Sandwurm, Walker of the Grove, Spined Megalodon, It of the Horrid Swarm, Wretched Gryff, Treasure Cruise, and Rush of Knowledge according to legal actions, visible pressure, and available follow-up.

  • Late game deviation: spend Scour from Existence, Natural Reclamation, Aethersnipe, Sword Coast Serpent // Capsizing Wave, Mirrorshell Crab, or Read the Tides defensively when a single opposing permanent, stack object, or combat step blocks lethal, threatens lethal, or invalidates Falls's largest threat. Do not assume adventure, channel, cycling, emerge, or cost-reduction text; use only legal modes and costs Veles exposes.

Card Roles

  • Commander engine: Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty is the deck's payoff multiplier, not the first threat to expose by default. Cast Imoti when the next legal turn can produce a five-plus mana spell, when commander tax is manageable, or when forcing removal clears the way for a larger follow-up; delay Imoti when visible pressure demands blockers or when holding only cheap ramp and selection.

  • Early acceleration: Rampant Growth, Explore, Growth Spiral, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Skyshroud Claim, Wood Elves, Farhaven Elf, Coiling Oracle, Arcane Signet, Simic Signet, Fellwar Stone, Mind Stone, Seer's Lantern, and Krosan Drover are the deck's real opening hand keepers. Prioritize green ramp that finds lands before rocks when colors are unstable, prioritize rocks when the hand needs immediate commander access, and treat Krosan Drover as a fragile discount piece that is best when the hand already contains multiple large creatures.

  • Cheap selection: Preordain, Serum Visions, Opt, Sigiled Starfish, Darksteel Pendant, and Halimar Depths protect land drops and smooth cascade turns. Use them before land only when the legal selection can change the land choice; otherwise make the land drop first, then sculpt for the next mana threshold or a payoff.

  • Card reloads: Rush of Knowledge, Read the Tides, Treasure Cruise, Mulldrifter, Mental Journey, and Krosan Tusker are recovery tools after ramping or trading. Rush of Knowledge wants a high-mana-value permanent already visible; Treasure Cruise should not consume graveyard resources if Tolarian Terror, Gearseeker Serpent, or another legal graveyard/discount line is more important; Mulldrifter, Mental Journey, and Krosan Tusker should follow the legal mode Veles exposes and are not automatic full-cost spells when cycling, evoke, or land-search modes are tactically better.

  • Cascade and high-end pressure: Annoyed Altisaur, Maelstrom Colossus, Aethersnipe, Walker of the Grove, Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, Greater Sandwurm, Spined Megalodon, Colossal Dreadmaw, Timberland Ancient, Greater Tanuki, Thundering Tanadon, It of the Horrid Swarm, Wretched Gryff, Tangle Golem, Spire Golem, Tolarian Terror, and Gearseeker Serpent convert mana into board presence. Prefer the threat that stabilizes the current board first: reach or large toughness against flyers and attackers, evasion or annihilator pressure against stalls, and cost-reduced bodies when they preserve mana for interaction.

  • Imoti follow-through: Annoyed Altisaur, Maelstrom Colossus, Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, Greater Sandwurm, Spined Megalodon, Walker of the Grove, It of the Horrid Swarm, Wretched Gryff, Aethersnipe, and other legal high-mana spells are strongest after Imoti because they can generate additional material. Do not cast the largest spell into obvious open interaction just because it cascades; check known counters, removal, lethal pressure, and whether a cheaper threat plus protection is available.

  • Tutor package: Fierce Empath finds the large creature that solves the visible problem. Search for Annoyed Altisaur or Maelstrom Colossus when ahead on mana and seeking snowball pressure, Ulamog's Crusher when the opponent is low on permanent resources, Aethersnipe when bounce or tempo is legally relevant, and a large stabilizer such as Greater Sandwurm, Walker of the Grove, Spined Megalodon, or Eldrazi Devastator when combat size matters.

  • Tempo and removal: Vapor Snag, Lignify, Utter Insignificance, Scour from Existence, Forceful Denial, Natural Reclamation, Mirrorshell Crab, Aethersnipe, and Sword Coast Serpent // Capsizing Wave are answers, not generic curve-fillers. Spend cheap interaction to protect the ramp window or stop lethal; save Scour from Existence for permanents that cannot be raced or answered otherwise; use stack interaction only against spells that materially beat Falls's mana engine, board, or commander plan. Card text check required for Utter Insignificance, Mirrorshell Crab, and Sword Coast Serpent // Capsizing Wave; follow only legal modes and targets exposed by Veles.

  • Combat enablers: Crashing Drawbridge and Whispersilk Cloak turn large creatures into immediate or hard-to-block threats. Deploy Crashing Drawbridge before a decisive large-creature turn when haste matters more than another ramp spell; equip or use Whispersilk Cloak only when the protected attacker changes the race, pressures commander damage where relevant, or preserves a key body from targeted removal.

  • Utility creatures and alternate pressure: Delver of Secrets // Insectile Aberration, Slavering Branchsnapper, Snapping Voidcraw, Errant Ephemeron, Elvish Aberration, Generous Ent, and Dread Linnorm // Scale Deflection fill early defense, alternative casting modes, or late pressure. Card text check required for Slavering Branchsnapper, Snapping Voidcraw, Generous Ent, and Dread Linnorm // Scale Deflection; treat them as conditional role players until Veles exposes exact legal actions.

  • Land roles: Command Tower, Thornwood Falls, Evolving Wilds, Terramorphic Expanse, Tranquil Thicket, Lonely Sandbar, Halimar Depths, Forest, and Island support a two-color ramp shell that must hit many land drops. Fetch missing colors early, preserve cycling lands when land drops matter, cycle them only after mana is abundant or action is missing, and use Halimar Depths to line up early lands or late cascade-quality draws when tempo allows.

Card Hover Notes

Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty

  • Deck role: Main/commander, 1 copy, core commander engine.
  • Role type: engine piece; mechanic payoff; threat/clock.
  • Deck-specific job: Turns six-plus-mana spells into cascade turns, making Annoyed Altisaur, Maelstrom Colossus, Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, Aethersnipe, Read the Tides, and other expensive casts worth more than their printed body or effect.
  • Timing: Cast when five mana is stable and the next turn can produce a mana value 6 or greater spell; delay if immediate attackers require Lignify, Vapor Snag, Utter Insignificance, or a blocker first.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {3}{G}{U} and commander tax on recasts; outputs a 3/1 body plus cascade on Imoti itself and on later spells you cast with mana value 6 or greater.
  • Partners / packages: Best follow-through is Annoyed Altisaur, Maelstrom Colossus, Aethersnipe, Walker of the Grove, Spined Megalodon, Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, Wretched Gryff, Mental Journey, and Read the Tides.
  • Role peers: No direct peer; closest role overlap is Annoyed Altisaur and Maelstrom Colossus as standalone cascade threats.
  • Failure modes: A 3/1 commander dies easily in combat and to removal; do not expose it when commander tax would strand the hand or when no six-plus follow-up is available.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Against control, lead with Tangle Golem, Spire Golem, Gearseeker Serpent, or Mulldrifter if they can bait removal before Imoti; against aggro, Imoti is secondary to surviving the next combat.

Utter Insignificance

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, flash creature-containment role player.
  • Role type: interaction-removal; sideboard-like main-deck bullet.
  • Deck-specific job: Contains a creature by stripping abilities and setting base power/toughness to 1/1, buying the turns needed to ramp into Annoyed Altisaur, Walker of the Grove, or Ulamog's Crusher.
  • Timing: Flash lets it answer an attacker, blocker, commander, or ability-dependent creature at the latest legal window; save it for a creature whose text or size matters more than a generic small attacker.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {1}{U} and an Aura slot on target creature; may later consume {2}{C} to exile enchanted creature if Mind Stone, Seer's Lantern, or Snapping Voidcraw supplies true colorless mana.
  • Partners / packages: Pairs with Scour from Existence and Lignify as durable containment; Vapor Snag and Aethersnipe are tempo alternatives when a temporary reset is enough.
  • Role peers: Lignify is the closest main-deck peer; Witness Protection is the sideboard peer.
  • Failure modes: Does not remove the creature from combat by itself unless rules timing and combat stats make that matter; the exile activation specifically needs {C}, not generic mana.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against commander-centric creature decks and large evasive threats; weak against sacrifice decks that can turn the enchanted 1/1 into value.

Explore

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, early ramp and velocity role player.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp; card selection; role glue.
  • Deck-specific job: Converts extra named lands in hand into faster access to Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty and six-plus-mana threats while replacing itself.
  • Timing: Cast before the land drop when the draw could change which land to play; cast after a guaranteed land drop only if the extra-land permission still has a land in hand to use.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {1}{G}; outputs one card drawn and permission to play one additional land this turn.
  • Partners / packages: Best with land-heavy hands containing Command Tower, Forest, Island, Thornwood Falls, Tranquil Thicket, Lonely Sandbar, Evolving Wilds, or Terramorphic Expanse; helps reach Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, and Skyshroud Claim.
  • Role peers: Growth Spiral is the closest peer, but instant speed and putting a land directly onto the battlefield make its timing different.
  • Failure modes: Bad as a two-mana cantrip when no extra land is available and the board requires Vapor Snag, Lignify, or a blocker.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Keep against slower decks and ramp mirrors; trim only when fast pressure makes two-mana setup worse than immediate interaction.

Growth Spiral

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, instant-speed ramp and smoothing role player.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp; card selection; role glue.
  • Deck-specific job: Lets Falls hold up Opt, Vapor Snag, or visible stack interaction and still advance mana if the opponent does not force an answer.
  • Timing: Best on the opponents end step or after drawing into a land; main-phase it only when the land entering now enables another same-turn play.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {G}{U}; draws a card, then may put a land card from hand onto the battlefield.
  • Partners / packages: Puts Forest, Island, Command Tower, Thornwood Falls, Halimar Depths, Tranquil Thicket, Lonely Sandbar, Evolving Wilds, or Terramorphic Expanse onto the battlefield; pairs with Explore as the decks cheap extra-land acceleration.
  • Role peers: Explore is the sorcery-speed peer; Coiling Oracle overlaps by potentially putting the revealed top card onto the battlefield if it is a named land.
  • Failure modes: Needs both colors early; do not keep a hand that cannot cast it and has no other ramp.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong when holding up blue interaction matters; weaker against decks that punish tapped-out turns if casting it uses all blue mana.

Opt

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, cheap instant selection role player.
  • Role type: card selection.
  • Deck-specific job: Finds missing named land, early ramp, or the specific answer that lets Falls survive into its large-spell turns.
  • Timing: Use before the land drop when the top card affects whether to play Forest, Island, Command Tower, Evolving Wilds, or Terramorphic Expanse; otherwise hold to the opponents end step while representing Vapor Snag, Dispel, or Hydroblast after sideboard.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {U}; scries 1, then draws a card.
  • Partners / packages: Sets up early Rampant Growth, Explore, Growth Spiral, Cultivate, and Kodama's Reach; late it looks for Forceful Denial, Scour from Existence, Annoyed Altisaur, or Rush of Knowledge.
  • Role peers: Preordain and Serum Visions dig deeper but are sorceries; Sigiled Starfish and Darksteel Pendant repeat scry without drawing immediately.
  • Failure modes: Do not spend the only blue mana on Opt if Vapor Snag or stack interaction is needed this turn.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Against pressure, bottom slow seven-plus-mana cards until mana is secure; against control, keep card-advantage spells if land drops are already covered.

Scour from Existence

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, universal late-game catch-all answer.
  • Role type: interaction-removal.
  • Deck-specific job: Exiles any target permanent that cheaper Falls answers cannot handle, including protected commanders, engines, graveyard-resilient threats, and blockers stopping a lethal large-creature attack.
  • Timing: Save for a permanent that beats the ramp plan or cannot be raced; cast earlier only when the next combat or engine activation would decide the game.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes seven generic mana at instant speed; outputs exile of target permanent.
  • Partners / packages: Complements Lignify, Utter Insignificance, Natural Reclamation, Aethersnipe, Vapor Snag, and sideboard Return to Nature by covering permanent types they miss.
  • Role peers: No exact peer; closest overlap is Natural Reclamation for artifact/enchantment permanents and Lignify for creatures.
  • Failure modes: Holding seven mana can slow Falls below its own threat curve; do not spend it on a medium creature if Colossal Dreadmaw, Tangle Golem, or Spire Golem can block profitably.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Excellent against single-threat, artifact/enchantment, and commander-centric decks; inefficient against go-wide boards unless one permanent is the damage amplifier.

Aethersnipe

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, high-mana tempo creature and bounce option.
  • Role type: interaction-removal; modal utility; threat/clock.
  • Deck-specific job: As a six-mana cast it triggers Imotis granted cascade and returns a target nonland permanent; as an evoke play it buys tempo without leaving the 4/4 body.
  • Timing: Full-cast when bounce plus a 4/4 body stabilizes or pressures; evoke for {1}{U}{U} when a blocker, attacker, Aura carrier, or commander must be reset immediately.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {5}{U} for a 4/4 and ETB bounce, or {1}{U}{U} with evoke and sacrifices itself after entering; outputs target nonland permanent returned to its owners hand.
  • Mode map: Full creature cast is a cascade-enabled body with bounce; evoke is a cheaper temporary answer that does not leave the creature.
  • Partners / packages: Clears blockers for Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, Annoyed Altisaur, and Whispersilk Cloak races; works with Fierce Empath because it is a creature card with mana value 6 or greater.
  • Role peers: Vapor Snag and Unsummon bounce creatures only; Read the Tides can return up to two target creatures; Sword Coast Serpent // Capsizing Wave has missing reference text, so use only visible legal actions.
  • Failure modes: Bouncing cheap ETB creatures can help the opponent; evoke does not trigger Imotis six-plus cascade from Imoti because the spells mana value remains 6, but confirm legal cascade handling through Veles prompts.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: High value against suited-up creatures, expensive commanders, and blockers preventing lethal.

Annoyed Altisaur

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, core cascade threat.
  • Role type: mechanic payoff; threat/clock.
  • Deck-specific job: Provides a 6/5 reach trampler and a built-in cascade trigger, making it one of the best follow-up spells after ramp and one of the best standalone top-end plays without Imoti.
  • Timing: Cast when seven mana is available and the board wants either a large reach blocker, trample pressure, or an extra cascade spell; do not wait for a perfect chain if survival requires a body now.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {5}{G}{G}; outputs a 6/5 reach/trample creature and cascade into a nonland card with lesser mana value.
  • Partners / packages: Strong with Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty because casting it can produce both its own cascade and Imoti-granted cascade if the engine applies both; supported by Krosan Drover, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, and Skyshroud Claim.
  • Role peers: Maelstrom Colossus is the closest cascade peer; Timberland Ancient overlaps as a reach/trample stabilizer without cascade.
  • Failure modes: Double green can be awkward; do not keep top-heavy hands that rely on Altisaur without early green ramp.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Excellent against flying pressure because reach matters; against control, consider baiting with cheaper threats first if open mana suggests a counterspell.

Crashing Drawbridge

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, haste-enabling utility creature.
  • Role type: protection/evasion; role glue.
  • Deck-specific job: Lets newly cast oversized creatures attack immediately, turning Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, Maelstrom Colossus, or Annoyed Altisaur from slow board presence into sudden pressure.
  • Timing: Deploy before the turn where haste changes combat math; block with it only when the life saved matters more than future haste.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {2} for a 0/4 defender; taps to give creatures you control haste until end of turn.
  • Partners / packages: Best with Ulamog's Crusher for immediate annihilator pressure, Whispersilk Cloak on a fresh large body, and expensive creatures found by Fierce Empath.
  • Role peers: No direct peer; closest role overlap is Whispersilk Cloak as another way to convert a large creature into immediate closing pressure.
  • Failure modes: Has defender and no mana ability; spending turn two on it is weak if Rampant Growth, Explore, Arcane Signet, or Simic Signet would unlock the hand.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong versus control and ramp mirrors where one surprise attack matters; less important against fast aggro where blocking and removal come first.

Fierce Empath

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, creature tutor role player.
  • Role type: tutor/search.
  • Deck-specific job: Searches for the six-plus-mana creature that solves the visible game: cascade pressure, reach stabilization, bounce, inevitability, or a large blocker.
  • Timing: Cast when the hand can use the found creature soon or when revealing the plan is worth guaranteeing the right top-end; delay if turn three should be Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Wood Elves, or Farhaven Elf.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {2}{G}; outputs a 1/1 body and may search for a creature card with mana value 6 or greater, reveal it, put it into hand, then shuffle.
  • Partners / packages: Finds Aethersnipe, Annoyed Altisaur, Sword Coast Serpent // Capsizing Wave, Walker of the Grove, Ulamog's Crusher, Greater Tanuki, Maelstrom Colossus, Greater Sandwurm, Dread Linnorm // Scale Deflection, Spined Megalodon, Tolarian Terror, Gearseeker Serpent, Colossal Dreadmaw, Elvish Aberration, It of the Horrid Swarm, Errant Ephemeron, Siege Wurm, Spire Golem, Eldrazi Devastator, Wretched Gryff, Mirrorshell Crab, Krosan Tusker, Timberland Ancient, and Generous Ent.
  • Role peers: No direct peer; land-search cards find mana rather than threats.
  • Failure modes: Do not automatically pick the biggest card; Aethersnipe may be better when bounce is required, and Annoyed Altisaur may be better when cascade is the plan.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Against aggro, prioritize Annoyed Altisaur, Spined Megalodon, Walker of the Grove, or Aethersnipe; against slow decks, Ulamog's Crusher or Maelstrom Colossus can be the higher ceiling.

Sword Coast Serpent // Capsizing Wave

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, adventure threat/tempo slot with incomplete reference text.
  • Role type: modal utility; threat/clock; interaction-removal.
  • Deck-specific job: Intended as a large blue creature or Adventure tempo spell in the Falls top-end package, but the supplied Card Reference lacks Oracle text for both faces, so exact target classes and effects must come from Veles legal actions at runtime.
  • Timing: Treat the creature side as a late mana sink and likely Imoti follow-through only when legal; use the Adventure side only when Veles shows its target and effect and that effect protects life, clears a blocker, or buys a key turn.
  • Inputs / outputs: Creature face consumes {5}{U}{U}; Adventure face consumes {1}{U}; outputs are text-sensitive and limited by missing metadata.
  • Mode map: Sword Coast Serpent is the creature face; Capsizing Wave is the instant Adventure face that may exile the card on resolution and allow later creature casting only if Veles exposes that permission.
  • Partners / packages: Potentially overlaps with Aethersnipe, Vapor Snag, and Read the Tides if Capsizing Wave is a bounce action; pairs with Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty when casting the seven-mana creature.
  • Role peers: Aethersnipe is the closest verified bounce-body peer; Spined Megalodon is the closest large blue body.
  • Failure modes: Reference metadata is missing, so do not assume target class, number of targets, or whether it affects creatures only.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Use only legal prompt text for aura/equipment tempo, commander reset, or blocker-clearing decisions.

Tangle Golem

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, cost-reduced artifact creature threat.
  • Role type: mechanic payoff; threat/clock.
  • Deck-specific job: Turns Forest density and Forest-search ramp into a cheaper 5/4 body that can stabilize earlier than the decks true seven- and eight-mana threats.
  • Timing: Cast when affinity for Forests makes it cheap enough to leave mana for Vapor Snag, Opt, or another ramp spell; full seven-mana casting is acceptable only if the body is needed and no stronger play exists.
  • Inputs / outputs: Costs {7} reduced by {1} for each Forest you control; outputs a 5/4 artifact creature.
  • Partners / packages: Supported by Forest, Tranquil Thicket if it stays as a green source, Skyshroud Claim, Wood Elves, Rampant Growth, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Evolving Wilds, and Terramorphic Expanse.
  • Role peers: Spire Golem is the Island-affinity peer; Gearseeker Serpent is the artifact-affinity peer.
  • Failure modes: Affinity for Forests counts Forest permanents you control, not green sources in hand; fetching Island over Forest can delay it.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Useful against removal-heavy decks as a replaceable threat before Imoti; against aggro, cast when 5 toughness is enough to trade or block profitably.

Walker of the Grove

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, resilient top-end creature.
  • Role type: threat/clock; engine fuel/material.
  • Deck-specific job: Provides a 7/7 body that leaves a 4/4 green Elemental token when it leaves the battlefield, giving Falls a better exchange into removal or combat than a plain large creature.
  • Timing: Full-cast when eight mana and Imoti follow-through are available; evoke for {4}{G} when a 4/4 token is enough and the deck cannot wait for eight mana.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {6}{G}{G} for the 7/7 or {4}{G} with evoke; outputs a 4/4 green Elemental token when it leaves the battlefield.
  • Mode map: Full cast gives the 7/7 plus delayed token; evoke creates a temporary creature that sacrifices itself after entering and leaves the token.
  • Partners / packages: Good Fierce Empath target when removal-heavy opponents make resilience valuable; Crashing Drawbridge can haste the 7/7 or later token if present.
  • Role peers: Eldrazi Devastator and Ulamog's Crusher are larger but less resilient; Wretched Gryff and It of the Horrid Swarm also turn creatures into extra material through emerge.
  • Failure modes: Evoke does not leave the 7/7; do not evoke when the actual large body is needed to block or attack.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong into one-for-one removal and midrange; weaker against exile effects and bounce that deny the leave-battlefield token timing you wanted.

Fellwar Stone

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, two-mana fixing rock.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp.
  • Deck-specific job: Accelerates from two to four and may fix green or blue depending on named lands opponents control, helping cast Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, Forceful Denial, and large spells ahead of curve.
  • Timing: Play on turn two when it improves the next two turns; prefer guaranteed green land-ramp if Fellwar Stone cannot currently produce a needed color.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {2}; taps for one mana of any color that a land an opponent controls could produce.
  • Partners / packages: Competes with Arcane Signet, Simic Signet, and Mind Stone as early artifacts; helps cast Krosan Drover, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, and Imoti if opponent named lands cooperate.
  • Role peers: Arcane Signet is more reliable in commander color identity; Simic Signet fixes both colors but needs {1} to activate.
  • Failure modes: It may not produce green or blue if the opponent has no matching land colors; check visible opponent named lands before relying on it.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Better in multicolor mirrors; against mono-red or colorless-heavy decks, treat its color output conservatively.

Cultivate

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, core three-mana basic-search ramp.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp.
  • Deck-specific job: Fixes both colors and guarantees the next land drop, giving Falls the clean path from early setup into Imoti and six-plus-mana spells.
  • Timing: Cast on turn three over low-impact selection unless an opposing threat requires immediate interaction.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {2}{G}; searches up to two basic land cards, reveals them, puts one onto the battlefield tapped and one into hand, then shuffles.
  • Partners / packages: Finds exact registered basics Forest and Island; supports Tangle Golem when choosing Forest and Spire Golem when increasing Island count through future land drops.
  • Role peers: Kodama's Reach is the exact functional peer; Rampant Growth and Farhaven Elf find one basic, while Skyshroud Claim finds Forest cards.
  • Failure modes: Do not choose two of the same basic if the hand needs both green and blue; shuffling can break Halimar Depths, Preordain, Serum Visions, Opt, Sigiled Starfish, or Darksteel Pendant setup.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Against aggro, still strong if life total allows; against combo, cast unless holding up Negate, Dispel, or Forceful Denial answers an immediate visible threat.

Rampant Growth

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, core two-mana land ramp.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp.
  • Deck-specific job: Repairs early colors and jumps Falls toward turn-three four-mana setup, commander deployment, and six-plus-mana turns.
  • Timing: Prioritize on turn two when green is available; delay only if Vapor Snag, Lignify, or Utter Insignificance must stop a visible threat.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {1}{G}; searches for a basic land card, puts it onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffles.
  • Partners / packages: Finds registered Forest or Island; enables Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Krosan Drover, Forceful Denial, and Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty by fixing the missing color.
  • Role peers: Farhaven Elf is a creature-body peer at three mana; Greater Tanuki channels for a similar tapped-basic ramp line at {2}{G}.
  • Failure modes: Cannot find Command Tower, Thornwood Falls, Tranquil Thicket, Lonely Sandbar, or Halimar Depths; do not call it dual fixing unless the chosen basic actually covers the missing color.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: One of the best keeps against any fair deck; against fast pressure, the life-total question is whether ramp now still allows a stabilizer before lethal.

Rush of Knowledge

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, high-ceiling card reload payoff.
  • Role type: engine payoff; card selection.
  • Deck-specific job: Converts a large permanent already under your control into a huge draw spell, refilling after Falls spends ramp and top-end cards.
  • Timing: Cast after a high-mana-value permanent such as Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, Maelstrom Colossus, Annoyed Altisaur, Spined Megalodon, or Walker of the Grove is on board; avoid casting for only one to three cards unless desperate.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {4}{U}; draws cards equal to the greatest mana value among permanents you control.
  • Partners / packages: Best with mana value 8 permanents Ulamog's Crusher, Maelstrom Colossus, Eldrazi Devastator, It of the Horrid Swarm, and Walker of the Grove; still strong with seven-mana bodies.
  • Role peers: Treasure Cruise, Read the Tides, Mental Journey, and Mulldrifter draw cards without needing a large permanent.
  • Failure modes: Terrible into removal if the opponent can kill your only large permanent before you resolve it; a naked Imoti draws only five.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against attrition and control after a threat sticks; sideboard out against red pressure when five-mana sorcery draw is too slow.

Simic Signet

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, two-color mana rock.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp.
  • Deck-specific job: Turns any spare generic mana into both green and blue, smoothing hands that need Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, Growth Spiral, or blue interaction after green ramp.
  • Timing: Play on turn two when turn three can use the extra mana; remember activation needs {1}, so it does not independently cast a one-mana spell the turn it enters unless another mana is available.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {2} to cast; consumes {1} and taps to add {G}{U}.
  • Partners / packages: Works with Command Tower, Forest, Island, Thornwood Falls, Arcane Signet, Fellwar Stone, and land-ramp spells to reach five and seven mana.
  • Role peers: Arcane Signet fixes without an activation cost; Fellwar Stone depends on opponent lands; Mind Stone accelerates but does not fix colors.
  • Failure modes: Do not count it as turn-two colored mana unless an extra generic source is available; artifact removal can strand color-light hands.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Important against control for double-spell turns; against aggro, still good if not delaying needed blockers or Vapor Snag.

Arcane Signet

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, premium commander-color mana rock.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp.
  • Deck-specific job: Provides reliable green or blue from commander color identity, accelerating Imoti and top-end while fixing awkward basic-heavy hands.
  • Timing: Cast on turn two whenever possible unless a visible creature must be answered immediately.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {2}; taps for one mana of any color in Imotis green-blue color identity.
  • Partners / packages: Enables {G}{U} requirements for Growth Spiral, Coiling Oracle, Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, and Forceful Denial; supports early Cultivate and later seven-plus-mana threats.
  • Role peers: Simic Signet adds both colors but needs {1}; Fellwar Stone is matchup-dependent; Mind Stone and Seer's Lantern provide colorless utility.
  • Failure modes: Does not count as a land for Explore, Growth Spiral, Tangle Golem, or Spire Golem.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: One of the safest keeps across matchups; protect its mana role mentally when choosing whether to sacrifice Mind Stone or use colored sources elsewhere.

Coiling Oracle

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, early value creature and ramp/filter role player.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp; card selection; engine fuel/material.
  • Deck-specific job: Reveals the top card and either accelerates a land onto the battlefield or puts a nonland into hand while leaving a 1/1 body for blocking, convoke, or emerge.
  • Timing: Cast early when it can hit a land drop or trade with small attackers; after Halimar Depths, Preordain, Opt, Serum Visions, Sigiled Starfish, or Darksteel Pendant, use known top-card information to decide its value.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {G}{U}; outputs either a land from the top onto the battlefield or the revealed nonland card into hand.
  • Partners / packages: Bodies help Siege Wurm, It of the Horrid Swarm, and Wretched Gryff; top manipulation improves Oracles land-hit odds.
  • Role peers: Explore and Growth Spiral are spell-based extra-land peers; Farhaven Elf and Wood Elves guarantee land search instead of relying on the top card.
  • Failure modes: Requires both colors early; a 1/1 body is not worth delaying guaranteed ramp when colors are awkward.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Excellent against aggro when it ramps or blocks; against control, it is a low-risk way to add material without committing a premium threat.

Ulamog's Crusher

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, inevitability finisher.
  • Role type: threat/clock; reach/finisher.
  • Deck-specific job: Forces the opponent to sacrifice two permanents whenever it attacks, making even chump blocks costly and converting Fallss mana advantage into permanent advantage.
  • Timing: Cast when eight mana is available and the opponent cannot easily bounce, exile, or race it; haste from Crashing Drawbridge can make the first annihilator trigger immediate.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {8}; outputs an 8/8 that attacks each combat if able and has annihilator 2.
  • Partners / packages: Excellent Fierce Empath target when the opponent is low on permanents; pairs with Whispersilk Cloak for unblockable annihilator pressure and with Crashing Drawbridge for immediate attacks.
  • Role peers: Eldrazi Devastator is larger and has trample but no annihilator; Maelstrom Colossus has cascade but less combat inevitability.
  • Failure modes: Must attack each combat if able, so avoid casting when forced attacks leave lethal crack-back or bad blocks.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong in ramp mirrors and slow midrange; weaker against decks with cheap bounce such as opposing Unsummon effects or sacrifice fodder boards.

Preordain

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, premium one-mana sorcery selection.
  • Role type: card selection.
  • Deck-specific job: Digs for missing named land, green ramp, blue interaction, or the next high-impact spell while bottoming redundant expensive cards.
  • Timing: Cast before the land drop if the scry can change land choice; otherwise use after making the forced land drop to sculpt the next turns.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {U}; scries 2, then draws a card.
  • Partners / packages: Finds Rampant Growth, Explore, Growth Spiral, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Arcane Signet, and needed named lands early; later finds Forceful Denial, Scour from Existence, Rush of Knowledge, or a finisher.
  • Role peers: Serum Visions draws before scrying; Opt sees fewer cards but is instant; Halimar Depths sets three cards without drawing.
  • Failure modes: Do not keep hands with only Forest and Preordain as the smoothing plan; it needs blue mana.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Against aggro, bottom slow seven-plus-mana spells unless mana and blockers are already present; against control, keep card draw or layered threats when named lands are secure.

Seer's Lantern

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, three-mana colorless ramp and repeatable scry artifact.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp; card selection.
  • Deck-specific job: Adds colorless mana toward expensive generic costs and smooths late draws when Falls has enough mana to leave {2} plus tap available.
  • Timing: Cast on turn three when color requirements are already covered or when reaching five-plus mana matters more than fixing; activate scry on turns where holding interaction or casting threats is not more important.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {3}; taps for {C}; consumes {2} and taps to scry 1.
  • Partners / packages: Helps pay for Scour from Existence, Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, and the {2}{C} exile activation on Utter Insignificance; scry pairs with cascade planning and Coiling Oracle.
  • Role peers: Mind Stone is cheaper and can sacrifice to draw; Darksteel Pendant scries cheaper and is indestructible but does not make mana.
  • Failure modes: Colorless mana does not cast green or blue pips; do not keep a color-light hand because Lantern exists.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Better in slow matchups; too slow against pressure if a three-mana ramp creature or removal spell is needed.

Skyshroud Claim

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, four-mana burst Forest ramp.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp.
  • Deck-specific job: Jumps from four to six mana by putting up to two Forest cards directly onto the battlefield, setting up Imoti follow-through and seven-mana threats.
  • Timing: Cast as soon as four mana is stable unless the board demands immediate interaction; especially strong before a turn where Annoyed Altisaur, Greater Tanuki, Timberland Ancient, or Generous Ent matters.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {3}{G}; searches up to two Forest cards, puts them onto the battlefield, then shuffles.
  • Partners / packages: In this registered list the clear targets are Forest and Tranquil Thicket if the engine recognizes its Forest type only when present; Card Reference lists Tranquil Thicket as Land without basic subtype text, so rely on Veles legal search candidates.
  • Role peers: Cultivate and Kodama's Reach fix both basics but add only one battlefield land immediately; Wood Elves also searches for a Forest card.
  • Failure modes: Does not search Island, Command Tower, Thornwood Falls, Halimar Depths, Evolving Wilds, or Terramorphic Expanse.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Powerful in ramp mirrors and midrange; against aggro, only cast if the next turns blocker arrives before lethal.

Greater Tanuki

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, land-channel ramp spell and large trampler.
  • Role type: modal utility; mana/fixing/ramp; threat/clock.
  • Deck-specific job: Early it channels into a tapped basic to fix mana; late it is a 6/5 trample enchantment creature that triggers Imotis six-plus cascade plan when cast.
  • Timing: Channel for {2}{G} when missing mana development or a color; cast for {4}{G}{G} when mana is already stable and the board needs a trampling body.
  • Inputs / outputs: Channel consumes {2}{G} and discards Greater Tanuki to search a basic land onto the battlefield tapped; creature cast consumes {4}{G}{G} for a 6/5 trample.
  • Mode map: Creature mode is pressure and cascade fuel; Channel mode is mana fixing and does not draw a card.
  • Partners / packages: Channel finds registered Forest or Island; creature mode pairs with Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, Crashing Drawbridge, and Whispersilk Cloak.
  • Role peers: Rampant Growth is the cheaper tapped-basic ramp peer; Slavering Branchsnapper, Elvish Aberration, Timberland Ancient, and Generous Ent search Forest to hand instead.
  • Failure modes: Discarding it removes a future six-mana threat; do so only when mana development is more important.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Channel is strong versus mana stumble; creature mode is better against slow decks where trample pressure matters.

Krosan Drover

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, fragile creature-cost discount engine.
  • Role type: mechanic enabler; mana/fixing/ramp.
  • Deck-specific job: Reduces creature spells with mana value 6 or greater by {2}, letting Falls chain large bodies faster after ramp.
  • Timing: Cast when the hand contains multiple eligible creatures and the opponent is unlikely to remove it before value; do not prioritize over guaranteed land ramp if mana is unstable.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {3}{G} for a 2/2; outputs a {2} cost reduction for your creature spells with mana value 6 or greater.
  • Partners / packages: Discounts Aethersnipe, Annoyed Altisaur, Sword Coast Serpent // Capsizing Wave, Walker of the Grove, Ulamog's Crusher, Greater Tanuki, Maelstrom Colossus, Greater Sandwurm, Dread Linnorm // Scale Deflection, Spined Megalodon, Tolarian Terror, Gearseeker Serpent, Colossal Dreadmaw, Elvish Aberration, It of the Horrid Swarm, Errant Ephemeron, Siege Wurm, Spire Golem, Eldrazi Devastator, Wretched Gryff, Mirrorshell Crab, Krosan Tusker, Timberland Ancient, and Generous Ent.
  • Role peers: No exact peer; Skyshroud Claim and mana rocks accelerate more reliably but do not discount spells.
  • Failure modes: Dies to common removal and may do nothing if the hand is ramp/search rather than creatures.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong in slow midrange and ramp mirrors; weak against red removal or fast attackers unless it can block profitably.

Maelstrom Colossus

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, artifact cascade finisher.
  • Role type: mechanic payoff; threat/clock.
  • Deck-specific job: Provides a huge cascade trigger on an eight-mana artifact creature, helping Falls rebuild or snowball even without Imoti.
  • Timing: Cast when eight mana is available and the cascade plus 7/7 body is better than holding up interaction; with Imoti, confirm Veles trigger handling if both cascade sources appear.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {8}; outputs a 7/7 artifact creature and cascade into a nonland card with lesser mana value.
  • Partners / packages: Krosan Drover reduces it because it is a creature spell with mana value 8; Crashing Drawbridge gives immediate attacks; Rush of Knowledge draws eight after it resolves.
  • Role peers: Annoyed Altisaur is the green cascade peer; Ulamog's Crusher and Eldrazi Devastator are eight-mana combat peers without cascade.
  • Failure modes: No evasion or trample; can stall against tokens unless paired with Whispersilk Cloak, Aethersnipe, Read the Tides, or Vapor Snag.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Excellent against control if it resolves because cascade still adds material; vulnerable to artifact removal after resolution.

Sigiled Starfish

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, repeatable early scry blocker.
  • Role type: card selection; engine fuel/material.
  • Deck-specific job: Blocks small attackers while repeatedly filtering top cards toward land drops, ramp, interaction, or cascade payoffs.
  • Timing: Cast on turn two when no better ramp exists or when a 0/3 blocker matters; activate at end steps or before draw when not needed to block.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {1}{U} for a 0/3; taps to scry 1.
  • Partners / packages: Scry improves Coiling Oracle, cascade decisions, and draw steps toward Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Skyshroud Claim, Forceful Denial, or top-end.
  • Role peers: Darksteel Pendant repeats scry as an artifact; Seer's Lantern scries and ramps; Halimar Depths arranges three cards once.
  • Failure modes: Summoning sickness delays the first activation; do not tap it if its 0/3 body must block this turn.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Better versus small aggro and grindy games; sideboard out against artifact/enchantment/graveyard engines if Return to Nature, Relic of Progenitus, or Negate is required.

Slavering Branchsnapper

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, Forestcycling trampling top-end role player.
  • Role type: modal utility; mana/fixing/ramp; threat/clock.
  • Deck-specific job: Early it turns into a Forest card in hand; late it is a 7/6 trample body that works with Imotis six-plus plan.
  • Timing: Forestcycle for {2} when missing green mana or land drops; cast for {4}{G}{G} when mana is stable and the board needs trample.
  • Inputs / outputs: Forestcycling consumes {2} and discards it to search for a Forest card, reveal it, put it into hand, then shuffle; creature mode consumes {4}{G}{G} for a 7/6 trample.
  • Mode map: Forestcycling is fixing to hand and does not draw; creature cast is pressure and cascade fuel.
  • Partners / packages: Searches registered Forest when legal; creature mode pairs with Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, Krosan Drover, Crashing Drawbridge, and Whispersilk Cloak.
  • Role peers: Timberland Ancient is a reach/trample Forestcycling peer; Generous Ent Forestcycles for {1} and makes Food when cast.
  • Failure modes: Forestcycling cannot find Island unless Veles identifies an Island with Forest type, which this list does not show.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Cycle in color-stumble games; cast against ground stalls where trample converts size into damage.

Snapping Voidcraw

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, colorless ramp creature and late draw engine.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp; engine piece; card selection.
  • Deck-specific job: Provides true colorless mana for expensive generic costs and can turn excess mana into cards in long games.
  • Timing: Cast on turn three when the 1/3 body and {C}{C} acceleration matter; activate draw only when spending {3}{C} plus tapping does not delay a threat or answer.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {1}{G}{U}; taps for {C}{C}; consumes {3}{C} and taps to draw a card.
  • Partners / packages: Helps pay Scour from Existence, Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, Maelstrom Colossus, and the {2}{C} exile activation on Utter Insignificance; draw mode supports late refills with Treasure Cruise and Rush of Knowledge.
  • Role peers: Mind Stone and Seer's Lantern are colorless ramp peers; neither produces two colorless mana per tap.
  • Failure modes: Devoid means the card is colorless, but the casting cost still needs {G}{U}; do not treat it as early fixing.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong in slow games and against big mana; fragile against creature removal if you rely on its mana for a key turn.

Mind Stone

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, two-mana colorless ramp with cash-out.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp; card selection.
  • Deck-specific job: Accelerates into four and five mana, then later sacrifices to draw when mana is abundant.
  • Timing: Cast early when it advances the curve; sacrifice only when the extra card is better than keeping {C} for Scour from Existence, Utter Insignificance exile activation, or a large spell.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {2}; taps for {C}; consumes {1}, taps, and sacrifices itself to draw a card.
  • Partners / packages: Helps pay generic portions of Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, and top-end; artifact count also reduces Gearseeker Serpent.
  • Role peers: Seer's Lantern costs more but scries repeatedly; Arcane Signet and Simic Signet fix colors.
  • Failure modes: Colorless mana does not pay green or blue pips; sacrificing it can slow Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, or Scour from Existence.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Cash it in against control when land count is high; keep it against aggro if it enables the stabilizing blocker next turn.

Greater Sandwurm

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, cycling large ground threat.
  • Role type: modal utility; threat/clock; card selection.
  • Deck-specific job: Early it cycles to keep mana and ramp flowing; late it becomes a 7/7 that low-power creatures named in this note with power 2 or less cannot block.
  • Timing: Cycle for {2} when missing mana development or interaction; cast for {5}{G}{G} when the opponents board contains small blockers or when a large body stabilizes.
  • Inputs / outputs: Cycling consumes {2} and discards it to draw a card; creature mode consumes {5}{G}{G} for a 7/7 with blocking restriction.
  • Mode map: Cycling is pure card replacement and graveyard fuel; creature mode is a size-based finisher.
  • Partners / packages: Creature mode works with Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, Krosan Drover, Crashing Drawbridge, and Whispersilk Cloak; cycling fuels Treasure Cruise and Tolarian Terror.
  • Role peers: Colossal Dreadmaw is a six-mana trampler; Slavering Branchsnapper has trample and Forestcycling instead of draw cycling.
  • Failure modes: Cycling does not search a land; if the problem is missing green, Generous Ent, Elvish Aberration, or Slavering Branchsnapper may be better.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Good against token blockers with low power; less reliable against large single blockers or exile removal.

Tranquil Thicket

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, tapped green land with cycling.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp; modal utility; card selection.
  • Deck-specific job: Provides green mana for early ramp or becomes a redraw when Falls already has enough lands.
  • Timing: Play early when tapped tempo does not block Rampant Growth, Explore, or Growth Spiral; cycle for {G} only after land drops and green count are secure.
  • Inputs / outputs: Enters tapped; taps for {G}; cycling consumes {G} and discards it to draw a card.
  • Mode map: Land mode is green mana; cycling mode is card replacement and graveyard fuel but sacrifices a land drop/resource.
  • Partners / packages: Casts Rampant Growth, Explore, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Lignify, and Return to Nature; cycling fuels Treasure Cruise and Tolarian Terror.
  • Role peers: Lonely Sandbar is the blue cycling-land peer; Thornwood Falls fixes both colors but cannot cycle.
  • Failure modes: Enters tapped, so it does not support turn-one untapped plays; cycling too early can strand six-plus-mana spells.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Keep as land against aggro and mana-light hands; cycle in control matchups when flooding and seeking pressure or protection.

Command Tower

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, premium two-color commander named land.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp.
  • Deck-specific job: Provides either green or blue for Imotis color identity, making it the cleanest land for mixed ramp, cantrip, and commander hands.
  • Timing: Play early when it unlocks both Rampant Growth/Explore and Preordain/Opt lines; preserve fetch named lands if shuffling would hurt top-card setup.
  • Inputs / outputs: Taps for one mana of any color in Imotis green-blue color identity.
  • Partners / packages: Casts Growth Spiral, Coiling Oracle, Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, Forceful Denial, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, and sideboard Negate.
  • Role peers: Thornwood Falls also fixes both colors but enters tapped and gains 1 life; Evolving Wilds and Terramorphic Expanse fix by finding basics tapped.
  • Failure modes: Does not have the Forest or Island subtype, so it does not reduce Tangle Golem or Spire Golem.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong in every matchup; if it is the only green source, protect sequencing so turn-two ramp remains available.

Island

  • Deck role: Main, 14 copies, basic blue mana resource and subtype enabler.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp.
  • Deck-specific job: Supplies blue for Preordain, Serum Visions, Opt, Vapor Snag, Growth Spiral, Coiling Oracle, Forceful Denial, Read the Tides, and Imoti, while reducing Spire Golem.
  • Timing: Prioritize early when the hand has one-mana blue selection or needs double blue later; fetch with Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Rampant Growth, Farhaven Elf, Evolving Wilds, or Terramorphic Expanse when blue is missing.
  • Inputs / outputs: Taps for {U} and counts as a Basic Land — Island.
  • Partners / packages: Spire Golem has affinity for Islands; Mental Journey basic landcycles for a basic land card and can find Island; Krosan Tusker can search for Island when cycled.
  • Role peers: Forest is the green basic peer; Lonely Sandbar and Halimar Depths produce blue with utility but enter tapped.
  • Failure modes: Too many Islands without Forest can strand green ramp and large green threats.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Against control, blue access for Forceful Denial, Dispel, and Negate matters; against aggro, do not overfetch Island if green blockers/ramp are missing.

Mental Journey

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, expensive instant draw spell and basic landcycling fixer.
  • Role type: modal utility; card selection; mana/fixing/ramp.
  • Deck-specific job: Early it fixes land drops; late it draws three at instant speed to reload after ramping or trading.
  • Timing: Basic landcycle for {1}{U} when missing land or color; hard-cast for {4}{U}{U} when holding up mana and drawing three is safer than tapping out for a sorcery threat.
  • Inputs / outputs: Draw mode consumes {4}{U}{U} and draws three cards; basic landcycling consumes {1}{U}, discards it, searches a basic land card, reveals it, puts it into hand, then shuffles.
  • Mode map: Draw-three mode increases hand size; basic landcycling searches Forest or Island and does not draw.
  • Partners / packages: Finds registered Forest or Island; hard-cast pairs with Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty because mana value 6 can cascade if Imoti is active.
  • Role peers: Krosan Tusker cycles for land plus draw; Treasure Cruise and Read the Tides draw three with different costs and timing.
  • Failure modes: Basic landcycling costs blue, so it cannot fix a no-blue hand.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against control and attrition; against aggro, cycle early if it helps reach a stabilizing body.

Natural Reclamation

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, artifact/enchantment answer with cascade.
  • Role type: interaction-removal; mechanic payoff.
  • Deck-specific job: Destroys a target artifact or enchantment while adding cascade value, giving Falls a main-deck answer to engines that stop large-creature combat.
  • Timing: Hold for a meaningful artifact or enchantment unless casting it for cascade plus a medium target is necessary to stay alive or progress.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {4}{G}; cascades, then destroys target artifact or enchantment.
  • Partners / packages: Complements Return to Nature sideboard, Scour from Existence, and Negate; five mana means it does not trigger Imotis six-plus ability, but it has its own cascade.
  • Role peers: Return to Nature is cheaper and modal but sideboarded; Scour from Existence exiles any permanent at seven mana.
  • Failure modes: Requires a legal target artifact or enchantment; do not cast into a low-impact target if the real engine is likely next.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: High priority against equipment, Aura, artifact-ramp, and enchantment-engine decks; lower value versus creature-only aggro.

Thundering Tanadon

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, flexible-cost trampling artifact creature.
  • Role type: threat/clock; role glue.
  • Deck-specific job: Provides a 5/4 trample artifact body that can come down earlier by paying life for Phyrexian green mana when tempo matters.
  • Timing: Cast with green mana when life total is pressured; pay 2 life for each {G/P} only when the earlier 5/4 meaningfully stabilizes or attacks.
  • Inputs / outputs: Costs {4}{G/P}{G/P}, where each {G/P} can be paid with {G} or 2 life; outputs a 5/4 artifact creature with trample.
  • Partners / packages: Artifact body helps Gearseeker Serpent affinity; large creature pressure benefits from Crashing Drawbridge and Whispersilk Cloak.
  • Role peers: Tangle Golem and Spire Golem are other cost-flexible artifact creatures; Colossal Dreadmaw is a larger green trampler without life-payment flexibility.
  • Failure modes: Life payment is not a mode; do not pay life against burn or evasive pressure unless the body prevents more damage than it costs.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Better against slow decks and ground stalls; risky against red burn where life total is the key resource.

Dread Linnorm // Scale Deflection

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, Adventure protection trick and evasive-ish large creature.
  • Role type: modal utility; protection/evasion; threat/clock.
  • Deck-specific job: Scale Deflection protects or wins combat with a key creature; later Dread Linnorm becomes a 7-mana creature that low-power creatures named in this note with power 3 or less cannot block.
  • Timing: Use Scale Deflection when +2/+2 via counters, untap, and hexproof save Imoti or a lethal attacker; cast Dread Linnorm when mana is stable and its blocking restriction matters.
  • Inputs / outputs: Scale Deflection consumes {3}{G}, targets a creature, puts two +1/+1 counters on it, untaps it, and gives it hexproof until end of turn; creature face consumes {6}{G}.
  • Mode map: Adventure mode is protection/combat swing and then exiles the card for later creature casting; creature mode is a large attacker.
  • Partners / packages: Protects Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, Ulamog's Crusher, Annoyed Altisaur, Gearseeker Serpent, or a Whispersilk Cloak attacker before Cloak gives shroud.
  • Role peers: Mirrorshell Crab protects on the stack via channel; Whispersilk Cloak gives ongoing shroud/unblockable but prevents your own future targeting.
  • Failure modes: Hexproof does not stop sweepers, sacrifice effects, or already-illegal targeting situations; shroud from Cloak prevents Scale Deflection from targeting that creature.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against targeted removal and combat tricks; weak against edict, sweeper, and go-wide pressure.

Spined Megalodon

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, hexproof top-end stabilizer.
  • Role type: threat/clock; protection/evasion; card selection.
  • Deck-specific job: Provides a 5/7 hexproof body that attacks through targeted removal while smoothing future draws with attack-triggered scry.
  • Timing: Cast when seven mana is available and a resilient blocker or slow closer matters; prefer faster stabilizers if immediate trample or reach is needed.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {5}{U}{U}; outputs a 5/7 hexproof creature that scries 1 whenever it attacks.
  • Partners / packages: Whispersilk Cloak can make it unblockable but shroud is redundant and blocks your own targeting; Crashing Drawbridge lets it attack and scry immediately.
  • Role peers: Mirrorshell Crab has ward 3 instead of hexproof and can channel as interaction; Tolarian Terror has ward 2 and cheaper cost potential.
  • Failure modes: Hexproof does not stop sweepers, sacrifice effects, combat damage, or your own need to target it with Scale Deflection after shroud/equipment.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against spot-removal control; weaker against go-wide boards that ignore one large blocker.

Wood Elves

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, three-mana Forest-search ramp creature.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp; engine fuel/material.
  • Deck-specific job: Puts a Forest card directly onto the battlefield while leaving a 1/1 body for blocking, convoke, or emerge.
  • Timing: Cast on turn three when green development matters; after its ETB resolves, trade or sacrifice the body if it protects life or fuels It of the Horrid Swarm or Wretched Gryff.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {2}{G}; searches for a Forest card, puts it onto the battlefield, then shuffles.
  • Partners / packages: Usually finds registered Forest; supports Tangle Golem, Annoyed Altisaur, Timberland Ancient, and Generous Ent.
  • Role peers: Farhaven Elf finds any basic tapped; Rampant Growth finds a basic tapped without a body.
  • Failure modes: Card Reference does not list nonbasic Forest subtypes beyond basics, so do not assume it finds Tranquil Thicket unless Veles exposes that target.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Good against aggro as ramp plus expendable blocker; against control, it is a low-risk way to build mana before committing a threat.

Tolarian Terror

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, graveyard-discounted ward threat.
  • Role type: mechanic payoff; threat/clock.
  • Deck-specific job: Converts instants and sorceries in the graveyard into a cheaper 5/5 ward threat, giving Falls a midgame body that can leave mana open.
  • Timing: Cast when enough instant/sorcery cards in graveyard reduce {6}{U} meaningfully; avoid delving those cards to Treasure Cruise first if Terror is the better immediate play.
  • Inputs / outputs: Costs {1} less for each instant and sorcery card in your graveyard; outputs a 5/5 with ward {2}.
  • Partners / packages: Fueled by Opt, Preordain, Serum Visions, Explore, Growth Spiral, Cultivate, Rampant Growth, Kodama's Reach, Skyshroud Claim, Vapor Snag, Forceful Denial, Scour from Existence, and draw spells after they resolve.
  • Role peers: Gearseeker Serpent is the artifact-count discount peer; Spire Golem and Tangle Golem use land-count affinity.
  • Failure modes: Delve from Treasure Cruise competes with Terrors discount; ward taxes opponents but does not stop untargeted removal.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against removal-heavy decks where ward taxes spot answers; weaker against graveyard hate and bounce.

Farhaven Elf

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, basic-land ramp creature.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp; engine fuel/material.
  • Deck-specific job: Fixes either color by searching a basic onto the battlefield tapped while leaving a small body for blocking, convoke, or emerge.
  • Timing: Cast on turn three when missing a color or land drop; trade the body after ramping if life total needs protection.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {2}{G}; may search for a basic land card, put it onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle.
  • Partners / packages: Finds registered Forest or Island; body can help convoke Siege Wurm or reduce emerge cost for It of the Horrid Swarm and Wretched Gryff.
  • Role peers: Wood Elves searches Forest onto the battlefield and may be untapped if target allows; Rampant Growth is cheaper but has no body.
  • Failure modes: The search is optional; do not decline unless there is a rare library or shuffle reason shown by Veles.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against aggro because it ramps and blocks; against control, it helps hit land drops without exposing a premium card.

Thornwood Falls

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, tapped dual land with small life buffer.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp; lifegain/stabilization.
  • Deck-specific job: Fixes both Simic colors and gains 1 life, smoothing early turns at the cost of entering tapped.
  • Timing: Play early when tapped tempo will not prevent Rampant Growth, Explore, Preordain, or Opt; avoid on a turn where untapped mana is needed for interaction.
  • Inputs / outputs: Enters tapped; gains 1 life when it enters; taps for {G} or {U}.
  • Partners / packages: Casts green ramp and blue selection; helps stabilize burn math with Weather the Storm after sideboard, though the life gain is only one.
  • Role peers: Command Tower fixes both colors untapped; Evolving Wilds and Terramorphic Expanse fix one basic tapped.
  • Failure modes: Does not support turn-one one-mana plays because it enters tapped.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Good in slow games and color-stumble hands; against fast decks, play it only when the tempo loss does not block a needed answer.

Halimar Depths

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, tapped blue land with top-card setup.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp; card selection.
  • Deck-specific job: Arranges the top three cards to hit land drops, set up Coiling Oracle, or plan cascade/draw sequencing.
  • Timing: Play early when tapped tempo is acceptable, or late before a key draw/cascade turn; avoid before an immediate shuffle from Evolving Wilds, Terramorphic Expanse, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, or a cycling search unless the shuffle is intentional.
  • Inputs / outputs: Enters tapped; looks at top three cards and puts them back in any order; taps for {U}.
  • Partners / packages: Sets up Coiling Oracle, Opt, Preordain, Serum Visions, Darksteel Pendant, Sigiled Starfish, and cascade turns from Imoti, Annoyed Altisaur, or Maelstrom Colossus.
  • Role peers: Preordain and Serum Visions manipulate plus draw; Darksteel Pendant and Sigiled Starfish repeat scry.
  • Failure modes: Enters tapped and does not make green; bad if it delays turn-two ramp.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong in slower games where planning matters; against aggro, tempo may matter more than top-card quality.

Gearseeker Serpent

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, artifact-discounted large blue threat.
  • Role type: mechanic payoff; threat/clock; protection/evasion.
  • Deck-specific job: Rewards artifact mana and utility artifacts by becoming cheaper, then uses {5}{U} to become unblockable for a decisive attack.
  • Timing: Cast when artifacts make it cheap enough to keep tempo; activate unblockable only when six mana converts into lethal, planeswalker pressure, or a major race swing.
  • Inputs / outputs: Costs {5}{U}{U} reduced by {1} for each artifact you control; activated ability consumes {5}{U} to make it unable to be blocked this turn.
  • Partners / packages: Counts Crashing Drawbridge, Fellwar Stone, Simic Signet, Arcane Signet, Seer's Lantern, Mind Stone, Darksteel Pendant, Whispersilk Cloak, Maelstrom Colossus, Thundering Tanadon, Spire Golem, Mirrorshell Crab, and Relic of Progenitus if sideboarded and controlled.
  • Role peers: Tolarian Terror is the graveyard-discount peer; Whispersilk Cloak grants unblockable without paying {5}{U} each turn.
  • Failure modes: Artifact removal can increase future cost; the unblockable activation is expensive and may leave no mana for protection.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong in board stalls; weaker against decks that remove artifacts or pressure life before artifacts accumulate.

Colossal Dreadmaw

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, straightforward trampling stabilizer.
  • Role type: threat/clock.
  • Deck-specific job: Gives Falls a six-mana 6/6 trample body that triggers Imotis granted cascade and blocks or attacks through smaller creatures.
  • Timing: Cast when six mana is reached and the board needs size more than card draw or interaction.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {4}{G}{G}; outputs a 6/6 trample creature.
  • Partners / packages: Works with Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, Krosan Drover, Crashing Drawbridge, Whispersilk Cloak, and Rush of Knowledge.
  • Role peers: Greater Tanuki, Timberland Ancient, and Slavering Branchsnapper are six-mana or similar green trampling bodies with extra text; Dreadmaw is simpler.
  • Failure modes: No reach, protection, ETB, or resilience; sideboard out when the matchup demands Negate, Relic of Progenitus, or Return to Nature over vanilla size.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Good against ground aggro and midrange; weak against flyers, hard removal, and token chump boards without Cloak or bounce support.

Elvish Aberration

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, Forestcycling ramp card and late mana creature.
  • Role type: modal utility; mana/fixing/ramp.
  • Deck-specific job: Early it searches a Forest to hand; late it becomes a 4/5 that taps for {G}{G}{G}, powering multiple large green turns.
  • Timing: Forestcycle for {2} when land drops or green are missing; cast for {5}{G} when the body and triple-green mana ability will survive to matter.
  • Inputs / outputs: Forestcycling consumes {2} and discards it to search for a Forest card, reveal it, put it into hand, then shuffle; creature mode consumes {5}{G} and taps for {G}{G}{G}.
  • Mode map: Cycling mode fixes to hand and does not draw; creature mode is a fragile mana engine.
  • Partners / packages: Searches registered Forest; triple green helps cast Annoyed Altisaur, Walker of the Grove, Greater Sandwurm, Timberland Ancient, and Generous Ent.
  • Role peers: Generous Ent, Timberland Ancient, and Slavering Branchsnapper are Forestcycling peers; Krosan Drover discounts large creatures instead of producing mana.
  • Failure modes: The mana ability has summoning sickness; do not rely on it immediately after casting.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Cycle against fast pressure or mana stumble; cast in slow ramp mirrors where untapping with it is realistic.

It of the Horrid Swarm

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, emerge threat with token production.
  • Role type: mechanic enabler; threat/clock; engine fuel/material.
  • Deck-specific job: Turns expendable creatures into an 8-mana cast that creates two 1/1 Insect tokens when cast, adding board width to Fallss large-creature plan.
  • Timing: Emerge when sacrificing Coiling Oracle, Wood Elves, Farhaven Elf, Fierce Empath, or another spent creature meaningfully reduces cost without losing a needed blocker; full-cast if mana is plentiful.
  • Inputs / outputs: Costs {8} or emerge {6}{G} reduced by the sacrificed creatures mana value; when cast, creates two 1/1 green Insect creature tokens.
  • Mode map: Full cast preserves board material; emerge consumes a creature for a cheaper cast and still creates tokens.
  • Partners / packages: Spent ETB creatures are best emerge material; tokens help block, convoke Siege Wurm, or pressure after sweep-like trades.
  • Role peers: Wretched Gryff is the emerge peer that draws a card and flies.
  • Failure modes: Do not sacrifice Krosan Drover, Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, or a required blocker unless the new board state is clearly better.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Useful versus go-wide and sacrifice-resistant boards; less impressive against flyers unless tokens buy time.

Errant Ephemeron

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, suspended evasive threat.
  • Role type: modal utility; threat/clock.
  • Deck-specific job: Provides a cheap early suspend line that later becomes a hasty 4/4 flyer, pressuring opponents while Falls spends mana ramping.
  • Timing: Suspend for {1}{U} early when the game is not about immediate blockers; hard-cast for {6}{U} only when mana is abundant or Imoti follow-through matters.
  • Inputs / outputs: Suspend consumes {1}{U} and exiles it with four time counters; each upkeep removes one, and when the last is removed you may cast it without paying mana and it has haste. Hard cast consumes {6}{U}.
  • Mode map: Suspend is delayed tempo-efficient evasion; hard cast is immediate expensive evasion and potential Imoti cascade fuel.
  • Partners / packages: Works with Crashing Drawbridge only if hard-cast and needing haste beyond suspend; Whispersilk Cloak is usually unnecessary for evasion but can add shroud.
  • Role peers: Spire Golem and Wretched Gryff are flying peers; Ephemeron is the best early delayed flyer.
  • Failure modes: Suspend does not block for four upkeep cycles; bad when under immediate creature pressure.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against control and stalled ground boards; weak when fast aggro demands immediate stabilization.

Siege Wurm

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, convoke trampling threat.
  • Role type: mechanic payoff; threat/clock.
  • Deck-specific job: Uses Coiling Oracle, Wood Elves, Farhaven Elf, Fierce Empath, and Insect tokens from It of the Horrid Swarm to cast a 5/5 trample ahead of normal seven-mana timing.
  • Timing: Cast with convoke when tapping creatures does not remove needed blockers or attackers; full-cast when mana is plentiful and bodies must stay untapped.
  • Inputs / outputs: Costs {5}{G}{G}; convoke lets creatures you tap while casting pay for {1} or one mana of that creatures color; outputs a 5/5 trample.
  • Partners / packages: Good with spent bodies from Coiling Oracle, Wood Elves, Farhaven Elf, Fierce Empath, and Insect tokens from It of the Horrid Swarm.
  • Role peers: Colossal Dreadmaw is a six-mana trample peer without convoke; Greater Tanuki and Slavering Branchsnapper are larger tramplers.
  • Failure modes: Tapping blockers to convoke can lose races; check opponent crack-back before using Coiling Oracle, Wood Elves, Farhaven Elf, Fierce Empath, or Insect tokens from It of the Horrid Swarm.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against ground decks when board material is available; less useful versus flyers unless the 5/5 race is fast enough.

Spire Golem

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, Island-affinity flying artifact creature.
  • Role type: mechanic payoff; threat/clock.
  • Deck-specific job: Converts Island count into a cheap 2/4 flyer that blocks evasive attackers or pressures planeswalker-like targets and life totals.
  • Timing: Cast when affinity for Islands makes it efficient, especially while leaving blue up for Vapor Snag, Opt, Dispel, or Negate.
  • Inputs / outputs: Costs {6} reduced by {1} for each Island you control; outputs a 2/4 artifact creature with flying.
  • Partners / packages: Supported by Island, Lonely Sandbar, and Halimar Depths as blue named lands only if Veles counts them according to actual subtypes; Card Reference gives only Island the Island subtype, so rely on visible cost reduction.
  • Role peers: Tangle Golem is the Forest-affinity peer; Gearseeker Serpent is the artifact-affinity peer.
  • Failure modes: Do not assume nonbasic blue named lands reduce the cost unless Veles shows it; 2 power is slow as a finisher.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Valuable against small flying pressure; against removal-heavy decks, it is a replaceable threat before committing Imoti.

Eldrazi Devastator

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, largest trampling body.
  • Role type: threat/clock; reach/finisher.
  • Deck-specific job: Provides an 8/9 trampler that dominates combat and turns Fallss ramp into a direct closing threat.
  • Timing: Cast when eight mana is available and trample pressure or a huge blocker is the best use of the turn.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {8}; outputs an 8/9 trample creature.
  • Partners / packages: Strong with Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, Krosan Drover, Crashing Drawbridge, Whispersilk Cloak, and Rush of Knowledge.
  • Role peers: Ulamog's Crusher has annihilator and forced attacks; Maelstrom Colossus has cascade; Devastator is the cleanest size-plus-trample option.
  • Failure modes: No protection or ETB; if the opponent has bounce or exile, consider baiting with a cheaper threat first.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Excellent against midrange and ground stalls; less sufficient against combo or evasive decks unless it ends the race quickly.

Vapor Snag

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, cheap creature tempo interaction.
  • Role type: interaction-removal.
  • Deck-specific job: Buys a turn against a creature, clears a blocker for a lethal attack, or punishes an opponent investing mana, Auras, or Equipment into one body.
  • Timing: Use at the last profitable legal window: after attacks, blocks, equip, Aura targeting, or commander mana investment when possible.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {U}; returns target creature to its owners hand and makes that creatures controller lose 1 life.
  • Partners / packages: Supports attacks from Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, Annoyed Altisaur, Gearseeker Serpent, and Whispersilk Cloak threats; complements Aethersnipe, Read the Tides, and sideboard Unsummon.
  • Role peers: Unsummon is the sideboard peer without life loss; Aethersnipe is slower but can hit nonland permanents.
  • Failure modes: Bad against cheap ETB creatures if replaying them benefits the opponent; cannot target noncreature permanents.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against aura/equipment, expensive commanders, and lethal blockers; lower value against control with few creatures.

Forceful Denial

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, cascade counterspell.
  • Role type: interaction-stack; mechanic payoff.
  • Deck-specific job: Counters a pivotal spell on the stack while cascading into additional material, making the decks permission less tempo-negative.
  • Timing: Hold for a spell that invalidates Fallss next two turns: removal on Imoti, a sweeper, a combo piece, a lethal spell, or an answer to a decisive top-end threat.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {3}{U}{U}; cascades, then counters target spell.
  • Partners / packages: Protects Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, Annoyed Altisaur, Maelstrom Colossus, Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, and Rush of Knowledge turns.
  • Role peers: Mirrorshell Crab channels as a soft counter for spell or ability unless its controller pays {3}; Negate and Dispel are cheaper sideboard stack peers with narrower targets.
  • Failure modes: Can only counter a spell on the stack, not a resolved permanent; do not hold it for a permanent already on battlefield.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong versus control, combo, and sweepers; inefficient against creature swarms if five mana must be used for blockers.

Evolving Wilds

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, basic-land fixing utility named land.
  • Role type: tutor/search; mana/fixing/ramp.
  • Deck-specific job: Finds the missing basic color and shuffles after top-card setup when desired.
  • Timing: Crack early when color access is missing; delay only if Halimar Depths, Preordain, Serum Visions, Opt, Sigiled Starfish, or Darksteel Pendant has arranged a top card you want to keep.
  • Inputs / outputs: Taps and sacrifices itself to search for a basic land card, put it onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle.
  • Partners / packages: Finds registered Forest or Island; supports Tangle Golem, Spire Golem, Cultivate, and Kodama's Reach sequencing by balancing basics.
  • Role peers: Terramorphic Expanse is the exact peer.
  • Failure modes: Does not tap for mana before sacrificing and the found land enters tapped; it cannot support an untapped turn-one cantrip or ramp spell.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong in any color-stumble hand; against fast decks, fetch the color that casts the next defensive spell, not the most abstract future need.

Terramorphic Expanse

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, basic-land fixing utility named land.
  • Role type: tutor/search; mana/fixing/ramp.
  • Deck-specific job: Repairs green-blue access while filling the graveyard for Treasure Cruise and Tolarian Terror.
  • Timing: Use early when missing a color; delay only to preserve known top-card order or to decide which basic the hand actually needs.
  • Inputs / outputs: Taps and sacrifices itself to search for a basic land card, put it onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle.
  • Partners / packages: Finds registered Forest or Island; shuffle can clear unwanted top cards after Halimar Depths, Preordain, Serum Visions, Opt, Sigiled Starfish, or Darksteel Pendant.
  • Role peers: Evolving Wilds is the exact peer.
  • Failure modes: No mana ability other than the tap-sacrifice search; do not call it a colorless land or count it as immediate mana.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Fetch Forest for ramp-heavy starts and Island for blue selection/interaction starts; visible pressure should decide the next spell, not a fixed preference.

Lonely Sandbar

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, tapped blue land with cycling.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp; modal utility; card selection.
  • Deck-specific job: Supplies blue early or becomes a redraw when Falls floods.
  • Timing: Play early when tapped tempo is safe and blue is needed; cycle for {U} only when land count and blue access are already secure.
  • Inputs / outputs: Enters tapped; taps for {U}; cycling consumes {U} and discards it to draw a card.
  • Mode map: Land mode is blue mana; cycling mode is card replacement and graveyard fuel.
  • Partners / packages: Casts Opt, Preordain, Serum Visions, Vapor Snag, Forceful Denial, Read the Tides, and sideboard Dispel/Negate; cycling fuels Treasure Cruise and Tolarian Terror.
  • Role peers: Tranquil Thicket is the green cycling-land peer; Halimar Depths is a tapped blue utility peer.
  • Failure modes: Enters tapped and cannot support turn-one blue spells immediately.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Keep as mana against aggro and color-light hands; cycle in attrition games when searching for a threat or answer.

Forest

  • Deck role: Main, 15 copies, basic green mana resource and Forest-count enabler.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp.
  • Deck-specific job: Powers the decks early ramp and green top-end while reducing Tangle Golem and serving as the main search target for Forestcycling.
  • Timing: Prioritize early when holding Rampant Growth, Explore, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Lignify, Krosan Drover, or green landcycling costs.
  • Inputs / outputs: Taps for {G} and counts as a Basic Land — Forest.
  • Partners / packages: Found by Rampant Growth, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Farhaven Elf, Evolving Wilds, Terramorphic Expanse, Greater Tanuki, Krosan Tusker, and Mental Journey; specifically found by Forest-search effects Skyshroud Claim, Wood Elves, Slavering Branchsnapper, Elvish Aberration, Timberland Ancient, and Generous Ent.
  • Role peers: Island is the blue basic peer; Command Tower fixes both colors but lacks the Forest subtype.
  • Failure modes: Too many Forests without blue can strand Imoti, Forceful Denial, Read the Tides, and blue selection.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Against aggressive decks, green ramp into blockers is usually more important than holding speculative blue interaction.

Kodama's Reach

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, core three-mana basic-search ramp.
  • Role type: mana/fixing/ramp.
  • Deck-specific job: Fixes both colors and guarantees the next land drop, forming one of the safest routes to Imoti and seven-mana threats.
  • Timing: Cast on turn three whenever the board does not demand immediate interaction.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {2}{G}; searches up to two basic land cards, reveals them, puts one onto the battlefield tapped and the other into hand, then shuffles.
  • Partners / packages: Finds registered Forest and/or Island; supports Tangle Golem, Spire Golem, and the double-color needs of Annoyed Altisaur, Spined Megalodon, Forceful Denial, and Imoti.
  • Role peers: Cultivate is the exact functional peer.
  • Failure modes: Do not ignore color balance: one battlefield Forest plus one hand Island may be better than two Forests if blue is missing.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Keep in almost every matchup; only delay if a visible lethal line requires Vapor Snag, Lignify, or registered sideboard answers named in this note.

Treasure Cruise

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, graveyard-fueled card reload.
  • Role type: card selection; mechanic payoff.
  • Deck-specific job: Uses spent fetches, ramp spells, cantrips, cycling cards, and interaction to draw three without spending a full eight mana.
  • Timing: Cast after the graveyard can reduce the cost enough and the board is stable; avoid exiling resources if Tolarian Terror is the better near-term threat.
  • Inputs / outputs: Costs {7}{U} with delve, where each card exiled from your graveyard while casting pays for {1}; draws three cards.
  • Partners / packages: Fueled by Evolving Wilds, Terramorphic Expanse, Opt, Preordain, Serum Visions, Explore, Growth Spiral, Vapor Snag, cycling lands, and landcycling/cycling creatures.
  • Role peers: Rush of Knowledge, Read the Tides, Mental Journey, and Mulldrifter also reload without consuming graveyard.
  • Failure modes: Delve can weaken Tolarian Terror; sideboard Relic of Progenitus can erase your own Cruise fuel.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Excellent against control and attrition; too slow against aggro if casting it delays a blocker or answer.

Lignify

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, durable creature-containment Aura.
  • Role type: interaction-removal.
  • Deck-specific job: Turns a dangerous creature into a 0/4 Treefolk with no abilities, neutralizing commanders and engine creatures without sending them to graveyard or hand.
  • Timing: Cast on the creature whose abilities, commander text, or combat damage are the real problem; use before combat when it changes attacks or blocks.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {1}{G}; enchants target creature, makes it a Treefolk with base power/toughness 0/4, and removes abilities.
  • Partners / packages: Complements Utter Insignificance, Witness Protection, Scour from Existence, and bounce spells by offering low-cost permanent named in this note containment.
  • Role peers: Utter Insignificance is flash and can later exile with {2}{C}; Witness Protection is cheaper sideboard containment that makes a 1/1.
  • Failure modes: Does not remove the creature from battlefield, so sacrifice outlets or static commander-zone rules may still matter depending on visible text.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against creature commanders and single large attackers; weaker against go-wide boards or noncreature engines.

Darksteel Pendant

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, indestructible repeatable scry artifact.
  • Role type: card selection; role glue.
  • Deck-specific job: Smooths draws toward named land, ramp, interaction, or top-end while adding artifact count for Gearseeker Serpent.
  • Timing: Cast early only if no stronger ramp play exists; activate on end steps or before draw when mana is unused.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {2}; has indestructible; consumes {1} and taps to scry 1.
  • Partners / packages: Helps set up Coiling Oracle, cascade, and draw steps; counts with Fellwar Stone, Simic Signet, Arcane Signet, Mind Stone, Seer's Lantern, Whispersilk Cloak, and artifact creatures for Gearseeker Serpent.
  • Role peers: Sigiled Starfish repeats scry on a creature body; Seer's Lantern scries and makes {C}.
  • Failure modes: Does not draw, ramp, or block; sideboard out when the matchup demands faster Weather the Storm, Unsummon, Scattershot Archer, or Relic of Progenitus.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Better in grindy games; weak when under early pressure.

Serum Visions

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, one-mana sorcery draw and setup.
  • Role type: card selection.
  • Deck-specific job: Draws immediately, then sets up the next two cards for land drops, ramp, or cascade-quality follow-up.
  • Timing: Cast when blue is available and you need raw card replacement now; unlike Preordain, it draws before scrying, so it is worse when you must choose whether the current top card is kept.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {U}; draws a card, then scries 2.
  • Partners / packages: Finds or sets up Rampant Growth, Explore, Growth Spiral, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Forceful Denial, Rush of Knowledge, and top-end.
  • Role peers: Preordain scries before drawing; Opt is instant and scries 1 before draw.
  • Failure modes: Sorcery speed means it cannot be held up like Opt; do not spend blue mana if instant interaction is required this turn.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Against aggro, scry slow top-end away until mana and blockers are secure; against control, set up draw spells and must-answer threats.

Whispersilk Cloak

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, equipment closer and shroud protection.
  • Role type: protection/evasion; reach/finisher.
  • Deck-specific job: Makes one large creature unblockable and untargetable, converting stalled boards into a real clock.
  • Timing: Cast and equip when one attacker changes the race or dodges targeted removal; avoid spending equip mana when a stabilizing spell is needed first.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {3} to cast and {2} to equip; equipped creature cant be blocked and has shroud, meaning it cannot be the target of spells or abilities.
  • Partners / packages: Best on Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, Maelstrom Colossus, Annoyed Altisaur, Gearseeker Serpent, Tolarian Terror, or Spined Megalodon.
  • Role peers: Crashing Drawbridge also converts large creatures into immediate pressure; Dread Linnorm // Scale Deflection protects for one turn but targets the creature.
  • Failure modes: Shroud stops your own Scale Deflection, equip moves, and other targeted help while attached; do not equip a creature you still need to target.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against board stalls and targeted removal; weak against sacrifice effects, sweepers, and artifact removal.

Read the Tides

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, modal six-mana card draw or creature bounce sorcery.
  • Role type: modal utility; card selection; interaction-removal.
  • Deck-specific job: Either refills with three cards or returns up to two target creatures to their owners hands to stabilize or clear lethal attacks.
  • Timing: Choose draw when board is stable and hand needs fuel; choose bounce when two creatures are pressuring lethal, carrying attachments, or blocking a decisive attack.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {5}{U}; outputs either draw three cards or returns up to two target creatures to their owners hands.
  • Mode map: Draw-three mode is refill and Imoti-compatible six-mana casting; bounce mode is tempo interaction against creatures only.
  • Partners / packages: Draw mode bridges into Annoyed Altisaur, Maelstrom Colossus, Scour from Existence, or Forceful Denial; bounce mode supports attacks from Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, and Whispersilk Cloak threats.
  • Role peers: Mental Journey draws three at instant speed; Aethersnipe bounces one nonland permanent with a body; Vapor Snag is cheap single-creature bounce.
  • Failure modes: Sorcery speed means it cannot answer attackers after they are declared; do not plan to hold it like an instant.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Sideboard out often versus fast burn/evasion where six-mana sorcery speed is too slow.

Wretched Gryff

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, emerge flyer with cast-trigger draw.
  • Role type: mechanic enabler; threat/clock; card selection.
  • Deck-specific job: Turns spent low-power creatures named in this note into a cheaper flying 3/4 while drawing a card when cast.
  • Timing: Emerge when sacrificing Coiling Oracle, Wood Elves, Farhaven Elf, or Fierce Empath reduces cost and does not cost a needed blocker; full-cast when mana is plentiful and cards are needed.
  • Inputs / outputs: Costs {7} or emerge {5}{U} reduced by sacrificed creatures mana value; when cast, draws a card; outputs a 3/4 flyer.
  • Mode map: Full cast preserves board; emerge consumes a creature for tempo and still gets the cast-trigger draw.
  • Partners / packages: Coiling Oracle, Wood Elves, Farhaven Elf, and Fierce Empath are the best sacrifice material; flying body pairs with Whispersilk Cloak only when shroud matters, since it already has evasion.
  • Role peers: It of the Horrid Swarm is the emerge peer that creates two Insects instead of drawing.
  • Failure modes: Sacrificing a needed blocker can lose races; cast trigger happens on cast, so counterspells may still leave the draw depending on engine handling.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Good against flyers and control; less dominant against large ground threats.

Mirrorshell Crab

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, ward threat and channel stack interaction.
  • Role type: modal utility; interaction-stack; threat/clock.
  • Deck-specific job: Early/midgame it protects a key turn by taxing a spell or ability; late it is a 5/7 ward artifact creature.
  • Timing: Channel for {2}{U} when countering a spell or ability unless its controller pays {3} would protect Imoti, stop lethal, or win a stack fight; cast creature mode when a resilient body is better.
  • Inputs / outputs: Channel consumes {2}{U} and discards it to counter target spell or ability unless its controller pays {3}; creature mode consumes {5}{U}{U} for a 5/7 artifact with ward {3}.
  • Mode map: Channel is uncounterable-by-normal-spell? Do not assume; it is an activated ability from hand. Creature mode is top-end artifact pressure.
  • Partners / packages: Protects Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, Annoyed Altisaur, Rush of Knowledge, or a lethal Whispersilk Cloak attack; artifact body counts for Gearseeker Serpent.
  • Role peers: Forceful Denial counters target spell and cascades; Negate and Dispel are sideboard counterspell peers.
  • Failure modes: Channel is a soft counter; if the opponent can pay {3}, it may fail.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against stack interaction and activated/triggered abilities that matter; less useful when opponent has abundant spare mana.

Krosan Tusker

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, land-search cycling and large creature.
  • Role type: modal utility; mana/fixing/ramp; card selection; threat/clock.
  • Deck-specific job: Early it finds a basic and draws a card; late it can be a 6/5 body if mana is abundant.
  • Timing: Cycle for {2}{G} when missing land or needing velocity; cast for {5}{G}{G} only when the body is more important than land plus draw.
  • Inputs / outputs: Cycling consumes {2}{G} and discards it to draw a card; when cycled, you may search a basic named land, reveal it, put it into hand, then shuffle before drawing.
  • Mode map: Cycling mode is land-to-hand plus draw; creature mode is a seven-mana 6/5 and Imoti-compatible threat.
  • Partners / packages: Finds registered Forest or Island; fills graveyard for Treasure Cruise and Tolarian Terror.
  • Role peers: Mental Journey basic landcycles without drawing; Greater Tanuki puts a basic onto battlefield tapped without drawing.
  • Failure modes: Cycling requires green mana and puts the land into hand, not battlefield.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Cycle against pressure or mana stumble; cast in attrition games when a creature body is needed.

Mulldrifter

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, flexible card-advantage flyer.
  • Role type: modal utility; card selection; threat/clock.
  • Deck-specific job: Draws two cards either as a temporary evoke spell or as a 2/2 flying creature that carries pressure.
  • Timing: Evoke for {2}{U} when cards are needed before five mana or when the body does not matter; full-cast for {4}{U} when a flyer can block, chip, or wear Whispersilk Cloak.
  • Inputs / outputs: Full cast consumes {4}{U} and draws two on ETB; evoke consumes {2}{U}, draws two, then sacrifices the creature after it enters.
  • Mode map: Evoke is cheaper refill with no lasting body; full cast is card draw plus evasive board presence.
  • Partners / packages: Draws into ramp/top-end; body can help convoke Siege Wurm or emerge into Wretched Gryff or It of the Horrid Swarm after value.
  • Role peers: Wretched Gryff draws one and flies with emerge; Treasure Cruise, Read the Tides, and Mental Journey draw three.
  • Failure modes: Full cast is not six mana, so it does not trigger Imotis granted cascade.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong versus control and midrange; evoke early against aggro if finding land/removal is more important than a 2/2 flyer.

Timberland Ancient

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, Forestcycling reach/trample stabilizer.
  • Role type: modal utility; mana/fixing/ramp; threat/clock.
  • Deck-specific job: Early it searches a Forest; late it is a 6/5 reach trample creature that blocks flyers and attacks through low-power creatures named in this note.
  • Timing: Forestcycle for {2} when missing green or land drops; cast for {4}{G}{G} when reach or trample matters.
  • Inputs / outputs: Forestcycling consumes {2} and discards it to search for a Forest card, reveal it, put it into hand, then shuffle; creature mode consumes {4}{G}{G}.
  • Mode map: Forestcycling fixes to hand and does not draw; creature mode stabilizes air and ground combat.
  • Partners / packages: Searches registered Forest; creature mode pairs with Imoti, Krosan Drover, Crashing Drawbridge, and Rush of Knowledge.
  • Role peers: Annoyed Altisaur also has reach/trample and cascade; Slavering Branchsnapper is larger with trample but no reach.
  • Failure modes: Cycling cannot find Island; casting requires double green.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Prioritize creature mode against small flying pressure; cycle against mana-stumble or control when land drops matter more.

Generous Ent

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, cheap Forestcycling stabilizer and Food producer.
  • Role type: modal utility; mana/fixing/ramp; lifegain/stabilization; threat/clock.
  • Deck-specific job: Forestcycles for only {1} early, then later provides a 5/7 reach body and a Food token for life stabilization.
  • Timing: Forestcycle early when missing land; cast for {5}{G} when reach and Food matter more than fixing.
  • Inputs / outputs: Forestcycling consumes {1} and discards it to search for a Forest card, reveal it, put it into hand, then shuffle; creature mode creates a Food token with {2}, {T}, Sacrifice this token: You gain 3 life.
  • Mode map: Forestcycling is efficient land-to-hand fixing; creature mode is reach stabilization plus Food life buffer.
  • Partners / packages: Searches registered Forest; Food artifact can reduce Gearseeker Serpent; body works with Crashing Drawbridge and Whispersilk Cloak.
  • Role peers: Timberland Ancient has reach/trample; Elvish Aberration Forestcycles then can produce {G}{G}{G} if cast.
  • Failure modes: Forestcycling does not find Island; Food costs mana and tapping the token, so life gain is not free.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Excellent against flyers and burn-like races; cycle against control if mana is the bottleneck.

Delver of Secrets // Insectile Aberration

  • Deck role: Main, 1 copy, low-cost evasive pressure/flex slot with incomplete reference text.
  • Role type: threat/clock; role glue.
  • Deck-specific job: Gives Falls a one-mana blue creature that can become an evasive threat, but this deck has a high creature count and is not built as a dedicated instant/sorcery Delver shell.
  • Timing: Cast early only when blue mana is free and it does not delay ramp; do not protect it over Imoti, ramp, or large threats.
  • Inputs / outputs: Delver face has no mana cost listed in the card reference but registered card conventionally appears as the {U} face; transformation details are missing from supplied metadata, so rely on Veles legal triggers.
  • Mode map: Delver of Secrets is the front creature face; Insectile Aberration is the transformed creature face. Exact reveal/transform procedure is missing from Card Reference.
  • Partners / packages: Opt, Preordain, Serum Visions, Vapor Snag, Forceful Denial, Explore, Growth Spiral, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, and draw spells may matter to transformation only if Veles exposes that text.
  • Role peers: Errant Ephemeron, Spire Golem, Wretched Gryff, and Mulldrifter are more reliable evasive bodies.
  • Failure modes: Reference metadata is missing; do not infer trigger details, reveal choices, or transformed stats unless Veles displays them.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Better against slow decks as incidental pressure; sideboard out when early defense or narrow answers are required.

Hydroblast

  • Deck role: Sideboard, 1 copy, red-specific one-mana answer.
  • Role type: sideboard bullet; interaction-stack; interaction-removal.
  • Deck-specific job: Protects Falls from red spells or red permanents that race Imoti or remove stabilizing creatures.
  • Timing: Hold for a red spell on the stack that matters or a red permanent already on board that must die; do not fire at low-impact red cards if lethal burn or commander pressure is likely.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {U}; choose one: counter target spell if its red, or destroy target permanent if its red.
  • Mode map: Counter mode targets a spell and checks if it is red; destroy mode targets a permanent and checks if it is red.
  • Partners / packages: Sideboards with Blue Elemental Blast and Weather the Storm against red pressure; protects Imoti, Annoyed Altisaur, Walker of the Grove, and other stabilizers.
  • Role peers: Blue Elemental Blast is the closest peer but its counter mode specifically targets a red spell and destroy mode targets a red permanent.
  • Failure modes: Dead against nonred threats; holding {U} can delay ramp if no red pivotal action is likely.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Bring against red burn, red commanders, red sweepers, and red permanent engines.

Witness Protection

  • Deck role: Sideboard, 1 copy, cheap creature/commander containment Aura.
  • Role type: sideboard bullet; interaction-removal.
  • Deck-specific job: Neutralizes one creatures abilities, name, colors, types, and size for only one blue mana, making it efficient against commander-centric creature decks.
  • Timing: Cast when the target creatures text or combat stats define the opponents plan; use before combat if changing it into a 1/1 prevents damage or blocks.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {U}; enchants target creature and makes it a green and white Citizen creature named Legitimate Businessperson with base power/toughness 1/1, losing all other colors, card types, creature types, names, and abilities.
  • Partners / packages: Comes in alongside Unsummon and Negate against single-threat commanders; complements main-deck Lignify and Utter Insignificance.
  • Role peers: Lignify makes a 0/4 with no abilities; Utter Insignificance has flash and a later colorless exile activation.
  • Failure modes: Does not remove the creature from battlefield and may leave sacrifice material; bad against go-wide boards.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against commander engines and suited-up creatures if Aura timing is legal; weak against noncreature combo or decks with many equivalent threats.

Unsummon

  • Deck role: Sideboard, 1 copy, cheap creature tempo answer.
  • Role type: sideboard bullet; interaction-removal.
  • Deck-specific job: Adds another one-mana way to reset a creature, punish attachment investment, or buy the turn Falls needs to cast a stabilizer.
  • Timing: Use at the last profitable legal window after the opponent commits mana, Auras, Equipment, attacks, or blocks; cast immediately only to prevent lethal or protect a key turn.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {U}; returns target creature to its owners hand.
  • Partners / packages: Stacks with Vapor Snag, Aethersnipe, and Read the Tides as creature tempo; supports attacks from Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, and Annoyed Altisaur.
  • Role peers: Vapor Snag is the main-deck peer with controller life loss; Aethersnipe is slower and can hit nonland permanents.
  • Failure modes: Bad against cheap ETB creatures and decks happy to recast their commander.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Bring against aura/equipment tempo, expensive commanders, and single-large-threat decks; avoid against low-curve value creatures unless tempo is decisive.

Blue Elemental Blast

  • Deck role: Sideboard, 1 copy, red-specific counter/removal answer.
  • Role type: sideboard bullet; interaction-stack; interaction-removal.
  • Deck-specific job: Gives a second one-mana answer to red spells and red permanents that can kill Imoti, race life total, or break a stabilizing blocker.
  • Timing: Hold for the red spell or red permanent that matters most; do not spend it on a small red creature if lethal burn or a red engine is visible.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {U}; choose one: counter target red spell, or destroy target red permanent.
  • Mode map: Counter mode legally targets a red spell on the stack; destroy mode legally targets a red permanent on battlefield.
  • Partners / packages: Paired with Hydroblast and Weather the Storm against red pressure; protects large stabilizers such as Walker of the Grove, Annoyed Altisaur, and Spined Megalodon.
  • Role peers: Hydroblast is the closest peer with “target spell if its red” and “target permanent if its red” wording.
  • Failure modes: Narrow and dead against nonred objects; holding it should not prevent necessary ramp unless a red pivotal spell is likely.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Bring against burn, red aggressive commanders, red sweepers, and red artifact/enchantment engines only if the key cards are red.

Dispel

  • Deck role: Sideboard, 1 copy, one-mana instant-only counter.
  • Role type: sideboard bullet; interaction-stack.
  • Deck-specific job: Protects Imoti, a cascade payoff, or a stabilizing threat from instant-speed removal/counterplay, and can stop lethal instant-speed burn or tricks.
  • Timing: Hold for an instant spell on the stack that changes the game; do not counter cantrips unless public information makes that cantrip the combo step.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {U}; counters target instant spell.
  • Partners / packages: Protects Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, Annoyed Altisaur, Maelstrom Colossus, Rush of Knowledge, Whispersilk Cloak equip turns, and large blockers.
  • Role peers: Negate counters noncreature spells more broadly for {1}{U}; Forceful Denial is main-deck five-mana hard permission with cascade; Mirrorshell Crab channel taxes spells or abilities.
  • Failure modes: Cannot counter creatures, sorceries, artifacts, enchantments, planeswalker-like spells, or abilities.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Bring against instant-heavy control, removal, combat tricks, and stack-combo decks; leave out against tapout creature decks.

Negate

  • Deck role: Sideboard, 1 copy, broad noncreature counterspell.
  • Role type: sideboard bullet; interaction-stack.
  • Deck-specific job: Stops board wipes, removal, opposing engines, combo pieces, and protection spells that would beat Fallss large-creature plan.
  • Timing: Hold for a noncreature spell on the stack that affects the next two turns; tap out instead when no public information suggests a decisive noncreature spell.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {1}{U}; counters target noncreature spell.
  • Partners / packages: Protects Imoti, Annoyed Altisaur, Maelstrom Colossus, Ulamog's Crusher, and card draw like Rush of Knowledge from opposing noncreature interaction.
  • Role peers: Dispel is cheaper but instant-only; Forceful Denial counters any spell at five mana and cascades.
  • Failure modes: Cannot counter creature spells or resolved permanents; do not hold it for a creature commander already on battlefield.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Bring against control, combo, artifact/enchantment engines, sweepers, and removal-heavy commanders; weak versus creature swarms.

Weather the Storm

  • Deck role: Sideboard, 1 copy, anti-burst lifegain spell.
  • Role type: sideboard bullet; lifegain/stabilization.
  • Deck-specific job: Buys the turn Falls needs to land Annoyed Altisaur, Walker of the Grove, Spined Megalodon, or another stabilizer against burn or spell-chain pressure.
  • Timing: Cast after the opponent has cast multiple spells this turn or in response to lethal burn when Veles shows priority; do not fire for only 3 life unless that exact 3 changes survival.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {1}{G}; gains 3 life, then storm copies it for each spell cast before it this turn.
  • Partners / packages: Sideboards with Hydroblast, Blue Elemental Blast, and Unsummon against red aggressive pressure; buys time for reach bodies Annoyed Altisaur, Timberland Ancient, and Generous Ent.
  • Role peers: Thornwood Falls and Generous Ent Food provide small life buffers but not burst lifegain.
  • Failure modes: Life gain does not answer commander damage, poison-like pressure, or an overwhelming board by itself.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Bring against burn, prowess-like spell chains, and swarm turns; avoid against slow control where life does not convert into pressure.

Return to Nature

  • Deck role: Sideboard, 1 copy, flexible artifact/enchantment/graveyard answer.
  • Role type: sideboard bullet; modal utility; interaction-removal; hate piece.
  • Deck-specific job: Answers the exact noncreature resource type causing trouble: artifact engine, enchantment engine, or a key graveyard card.
  • Timing: Hold until the target is the real engine or graveyard payoff; use earlier only if delaying lets the opponent gain irreversible value.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {1}{G}; choose one: destroy target artifact, destroy target enchantment, or exile target card from a graveyard.
  • Mode map: Artifact mode destroys target artifact; enchantment mode destroys target enchantment; graveyard mode exiles one target card from a graveyard.
  • Partners / packages: Complements Natural Reclamation, Scour from Existence, Relic of Progenitus, and Negate.
  • Role peers: Natural Reclamation is main-deck artifact/enchantment removal with cascade; Relic of Progenitus is repeatable/all-graveyard hate.
  • Failure modes: Exiling one graveyard card after flashback, delve, or escape costs are paid usually does not undo the already-cast spell.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Bring against artifact engines, enchantment engines, graveyard recursion, delve, flashback, escape, and threshold-style threats.

Scattershot Archer

  • Deck role: Sideboard, 1 copy, repeatable small-flyer hate creature.
  • Role type: sideboard bullet; hate piece; interaction-removal.
  • Deck-specific job: Gives Falls a one-mana way to repeatedly damage each creature with flying, buying time against evasive boards that ignore ground blockers.
  • Timing: Cast early against visible flying pressure; activate before combat or after damage setup when 1 damage changes attacks, blocks, or survival.
  • Inputs / outputs: Consumes {G} for a 1/2; taps to deal 1 damage to each creature with flying.
  • Partners / packages: Protects the ramp window until Spire Golem, Wretched Gryff, Annoyed Altisaur, Timberland Ancient, or Generous Ent can stabilize air combat.
  • Role peers: Spire Golem, Wretched Gryff, Annoyed Altisaur, Timberland Ancient, and Generous Ent interact with flyers by blocking; Archer repeatedly pings them.
  • Failure modes: Damages your own flying creatures too, including Errant Ephemeron, Spire Golem, Wretched Gryff, Mulldrifter, and transformed Delver of Secrets // Insectile Aberration if they are creatures with flying.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Bring against small flying swarms and evasive commanders with 1 toughness; weak against large flyers.

Relic of Progenitus

  • Deck role: Sideboard, 1 copy, graveyard hate artifact.
  • Role type: sideboard bullet; hate piece; card selection.
  • Deck-specific job: Pressures opposing graveyard plans while optionally cashing in to exile all graveyards and draw a card.
  • Timing: Use the tap ability to tax setup when one card matters less than preserving your own graveyard; use the full exile when a visible graveyard line would swing the game.
  • Inputs / outputs: Costs {1}; taps targeting a player, and that player chooses a card to exile from their graveyard; consumes {1} and exiles Relic to exile all graveyards and draw a card.
  • Mode map: Single-card activation targets a player, and that player chooses the graveyard card to exile; full exile is symmetrical graveyard reset plus draw.
  • Partners / packages: Conflicts with Fallss Treasure Cruise and Tolarian Terror; supports Gearseeker Serpent as an artifact while on battlefield.
  • Role peers: Return to Nature can exile one target card from a graveyard; Relic offers repeat pressure and a full reset.
  • Failure modes: Activating full exile casually can strand your own graveyard payoffs; single-card mode lets the targeted player choose what to exile.
  • Matchup / visibility hooks: Bring against graveyard recursion, delve, flashback, escape, threshold, and reanimation-style plans.

Interaction Priorities

  • Remove the permanent that blocks the ramp-to-cascade plan first: use Lignify, Utter Insignificance, Scour from Existence, legal Aethersnipe bounce modes, legal Sword Coast Serpent // Capsizing Wave modes, or Vapor Snag on the creature or permanent that creates lethal pressure, shuts off large attacks, or makes Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty unsafe to deploy. Card text check required for Utter Insignificance; treat it as conditional removal only when Veles exposes a legal target and effect.

  • Counter the spell that invalidates the next two turns, not the first spell cast: spend Forceful Denial or legal Mirrorshell Crab interaction on board wipes, hard removal aimed at Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, haymakers that race Falls's top end, or stack interaction that stops a decisive Annoyed Altisaur, Maelstrom Colossus, Ulamog's Crusher, or Eldrazi Devastator turn. Card text check required for Mirrorshell Crab; follow only the legal action Veles shows.

  • Exile only what cannot be handled cheaper: reserve Scour from Existence for commanders, engines, graveyard-resilient threats, protection-equipped bodies, prison pieces, or permanents that Lignify and bounce do not solve. Do not fire it at a medium attacker if a large blocker, Vapor Snag, or a race with Whispersilk Cloak is enough.

  • Bounce for tempo when the opponent is mana-constrained or aura/equipment-invested: Vapor Snag, Aethersnipe, and Sword Coast Serpent // Capsizing Wave are strongest against expensive threats, token-like tempo turns, commander tax pressure, or a blocker stopping lethal. Avoid bounce on cheap enter-the-battlefield value creatures unless it prevents lethal or buys the exact turn needed for a cascade payoff.

  • Answer flyers and evasive pressure earlier than ground creatures: Falls can often brick-wall ground combat with Colossal Dreadmaw, Greater Sandwurm, Walker of the Grove, Spined Megalodon, Tangle Golem, Tolarian Terror, or Gearseeker Serpent, but evasive attackers can force interaction before the big bodies matter.

  • Ignore low-impact creatures when a stabilizing body is imminent: do not spend premium removal on small utility attackers if the hand can cast Annoyed Altisaur, Wretched Gryff, Walker of the Grove, or another large blocker before damage becomes lethal. Change this rule against go-wide, pump, or sacrifice decks where small bodies multiply damage or resources.

  • Bait interaction with replaceable threats before exposing the commander: if the opponent has open mana and likely answers, lead with Tangle Golem, Spire Golem, Tolarian Terror, Gearseeker Serpent, Mulldrifter, or another useful but nonessential spell before committing Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty. Do not bait when waiting gives the opponent lethal or when Imoti immediately enables a five-plus mana follow-up.

  • Do not seek discard lines from this list: Falls has no registered discard spell in the main deck or sideboard. If Veles presents an opponent-driven discard choice, protect Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, live ramp, and the best stabilizing payoff over redundant expensive creatures.

Combat And Trading Rules

  • Attack only when the board remains stable after crack-back: Falls wins by making attacks too large to answer, so preserve life total and board material until Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, Annoyed Altisaur, Maelstrom Colossus, or an equipped Whispersilk Cloak threat can force meaningful damage.

  • Block early to protect the ramp window: trade Wood Elves, Farhaven Elf, Coiling Oracle, or Fierce Empath after their value is gained when the trade preserves life or buys a turn for a five-plus mana spell. Preserve Krosan Drover when its discount is enabling multiple large creature turns, but trade it if life total or commander survival is under immediate threat.

  • Preserve Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty from routine combat: do not attack or block with Imoti unless the exchange is lethal, prevents lethal, or commander tax is acceptable and the hand no longer needs cascade. Imoti's combat damage is secondary to making each large spell generate extra material.

  • Use Crashing Drawbridge as a combat-turn converter: keep it untapped or available when the next large creature can attack immediately, stabilize with haste, or surprise a planeswalker-like permanent if one exists in the legal game. Do not spend it casually if the opponent can punish the shields-down attack.

  • Equip Whispersilk Cloak when one attacker changes the race: prioritize Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, Maelstrom Colossus, Annoyed Altisaur, Tolarian Terror, or Gearseeker Serpent when unblockable damage or protection from targeted interaction is decisive. Avoid moving the Cloak onto a small creature unless evasion closes the game faster than waiting for a large body.

  • Trade large bodies only for time, lethal setup, or commander protection: a Colossal Dreadmaw, Greater Sandwurm, Spined Megalodon, Walker of the Grove, or Timberland Ancient should usually dominate combat rather than exchange down. Accept a trade if it stops lethal, removes the opponent's only oversized threat, or clears attacks for multiple future turns.

  • Race slower decks after the first dominant threat resolves: against control, ramp mirrors, or durdly value decks, attack aggressively with the largest legal attacker and force the opponent to answer before Falls runs out of pressure. Against fast creature decks, leave back enough toughness to prevent double-spell crack-back damage before pushing extra attacks.

  • Respect go-wide boards more than single blockers: large creatures beat one-for-one combat, but token swarms and pump turns can ignore a lone Ulamog's Crusher or Colossal Dreadmaw. When facing many attackers, favor blockers, bounce tempo, or Lignify on the damage amplifier over a greedy attack.

  • Use evasive or alternate-cost creatures according to visible legality: Errant Ephemeron, Spire Golem, Wretched Gryff, Thundering Tanadon, It of the Horrid Swarm, Slavering Branchsnapper, Snapping Voidcraw, Dread Linnorm // Scale Deflection, Generous Ent, and Elvish Aberration may have tactical modes or combat text that matter. Card text check required for uncertain text; choose attacks, blocks, and modes only from Veles-visible legal actions.

Selection And Tutor Rules

  • Use cheap selection to find mana before finding threats: cast Preordain, Serum Visions, Opt, Darksteel Pendant, Sigiled Starfish, and Halimar Depths to secure early land drops, blue-green access, or a ramp spell before keeping expensive cascade payoffs on top. Bottom or decline seven-plus mana cards when the hand cannot yet cast Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Rampant Growth, Explore, Growth Spiral, Wood Elves, or Farhaven Elf on time.

  • Sequence selection before the land drop when the land choice is uncertain: use Preordain, Opt, Serum Visions, Halimar Depths, or visible scry actions first if they can reveal whether to play Forest, Island, Command Tower, Thornwood Falls, Evolving Wilds, Terramorphic Expanse, Tranquil Thicket, or Lonely Sandbar. Play the land first only when mana is required to cast the selection spell or when the current land drop is already forced.

  • Use Fierce Empath as the true tutor for the next game state, not automatically the biggest card: find Annoyed Altisaur or Maelstrom Colossus when Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty is available and cascade chains matter, Ulamog's Crusher or Eldrazi Devastator when raw pressure is needed, Aethersnipe when bounce tempo is the legal stabilizing line, or Walker of the Grove when a body plus resilience is better. Card text check required for any target eligibility Veles does not expose.

  • Treat landcycling and cycling-like actions as mana smoothing until the deck is functional: use legal abilities from Krosan Tusker, Elvish Aberration, Generous Ent, Greater Tanuki, Mental Journey, Natural Reclamation, Greater Sandwurm, or Tranquil Thicket when the hand is missing land drops or a key color. Preserve these cards as spells when mana is already abundant and their body, removal mode, or draw mode is more valuable than another land.

  • Convert extra graveyard and hand resources into velocity after stabilizing mana: cast Treasure Cruise, Rush of Knowledge, Read the Tides, Mulldrifter, Wretched Gryff, or Coiling Oracle when the board is not demanding immediate interaction. Prefer draw before committing a threat if it can reveal a land, a cheaper play, or protection for Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty.

  • Bottom redundant expensive spells when the hand lacks acceleration: one payoff is enough before six mana, so selection should prefer lands, ramp, Arcane Signet, Simic Signet, Fellwar Stone, Mind Stone, or Seer's Lantern over additional top-end. Keep multiple payoffs only when mana is already mapped for the next two turns or when Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty is ready to turn them into cascade pressure.

Priority And Stack Rules

  • Pass priority through low-impact windows unless a legal action changes the current turn: Falls is not built to trade many small instant-speed resources, so preserve mana for ramp and large sorcery-speed turns unless Vapor Snag, Forceful Denial, Mirrorshell Crab, Dread Linnorm // Scale Deflection, Scour from Existence, Natural Reclamation, Utter Insignificance, or sideboard interaction answers a decisive spell or combat step.

  • Protect Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty only when the follow-up hand justifies the fight: use Forceful Denial, legal Mirrorshell Crab interaction, or a bounce/protection line if losing Imoti would strand five-plus mana spells or shut off the next cascade turn. Let removal resolve when commander tax is affordable, the hand has independent pressure, or spending interaction would leave the deck dead to a bigger visible threat.

  • Let medium spells resolve when the answer is needed for a must-answer permanent: do not spend Forceful Denial or Mirrorshell Crab on cantrips, small creatures, or replaceable ramp unless they create lethal, break mana development, or remove the only stabilizer. Save hard interaction for sweepers, commander removal, stack interaction targeting a cascade payoff, or a permanent that Lignify, Vapor Snag, Aethersnipe, or combat cannot manage.

  • Use bounce at the last profitable legal window: cast Vapor Snag, Aethersnipe, or Sword Coast Serpent // Capsizing Wave after the opponent spends mana, equips, enchants, attacks, blocks, or targets the creature if Veles shows that timing. Avoid main-phase bounce unless it clears lethal damage, resets commander tempo, or unlocks an immediate attack.

  • Treat optional payments and alternate modes as resource gates: pay for Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty-enabled lines, Treasure Cruise, evoke-style Mulldrifter, emerge-style Wretched Gryff, cycling, landcycling, or channel-like actions only when Veles presents the legal action and the resulting tempo is better than casting the card normally. Card text check required for Dread Linnorm // Scale Deflection, Mirrorshell Crab, It of the Horrid Swarm, Thundering Tanadon, Slavering Branchsnapper, and Snapping Voidcraw if the prompt depends on exact rules text.

  • Resolve cascade and follow-up choices by current need: after a five-plus mana spell or Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty trigger, choose mana, targets, and optional casts that preserve the board first, then increase pressure, then draw cards. Do not auto-cast a revealed spell if Veles presents a decline option and casting it would waste removal, shrink future Treasure Cruise fuel, or expose a key card into known interaction.

  • Hold graveyard and artifact/enchantment timing for maximum information: use Natural Reclamation, Scour from Existence, and sideboard Return to Nature only after confirming the target is the real engine, lethal modifier, graveyard payoff, or lock piece. Use sideboard Relic of Progenitus activations according to visible graveyard pressure and avoid exiling your own graveyard before Treasure Cruise unless survival requires it.

Sideboard Map

  • Hydroblast enters against red commanders, red burn, red sweepers, red combat tricks, and red permanent engines that can race Falls before the cascade turns arrive. Use it as cheap protection for Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty or as tempo against a red spell that would remove the commander, end the game, or break a stabilizing blocker. It is bad against low-red lists, creature-heavy boards where the key threats are not red, and games where holding one blue mana prevents casting Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Skyshroud Claim, or a five-plus mana payoff on curve.

  • Blue Elemental Blast follows the same red-matchup rule as Hydroblast, but treat the second blast effect as density rather than a reason to play draw-go. Bring it when red interaction is expected to answer Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, when red reach makes life total the key resource, or when red permanents create a board state that Lignify, Vapor Snag, and Aethersnipe do not answer cleanly. It is bad when the opponents red cards are incidental and the main threat is artifact, graveyard, or nonred commander pressure.

  • Weather the Storm enters against burn, prowess-style red pressure, and storm-like turns where one life burst can buy the turn needed to cast Spined Megalodon, Walker of the Grove, Annoyed Altisaur, or Ulamog's Crusher. Use it as survival interaction, not as a value spell; hold it for a visible high-spell turn or lethal burn window when Veles shows legal priority. It is bad against commander-damage races where life does not solve the board, poison-like pressure, and slow control where extra life does not convert into a resolved threat.

  • Dispel enters against instant-heavy interaction, counterspell fights, combat tricks, and removal that targets Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty or the first cascade payoff. Use it to force one decisive spell through or stop a lethal instant, not to fight low-impact cantrips. It is bad against tapout creature decks, artifact engines, enchantment engines, and sorcery-speed removal. Its role is strongest when Falls has a mapped turn involving Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty plus a five-plus mana spell and can reserve a single blue mana.

  • Negate enters against control, combo, removal-heavy commanders, board wipes, enchantment engines, artifact engines, and noncreature prison pieces. Use it more broadly than Dispel, but still protect the turn that matters: commander deployment, cascade payoff, or survival against a noncreature finisher. It is bad against creature-swarm decks where the dangerous actions are attacks and creature abilities. Its role changes from early protection to late-game answer for a spell that beats a large board.

  • Witness Protection enters when the opposing commander or single creature is the main engine and the deck needs a cheap permanent answer. Use it over bounce when returning the creature to hand is not enough and over Lignify when one mana efficiency matters. It is bad against go-wide boards, sacrifice decks that can use the altered creature, and commanders with valuable static or zone-based functions if Veles-visible text indicates the aura will not solve the problem. Card text check required before assuming exact ability loss or creature sizing.

  • Unsummon enters against aura stacks, equipment tempo, expensive commanders, token-adjacent threats, and decks trying to invest one large turn into a single attacker. Use it at the last legal window after mana or attachments are committed when that timing is visible. It is bad against low-cost creatures, enter-the-battlefield value loops, and decks happy to recast the same threat. Its role is tempo protection for Falls slow setup, especially when paired with Aethersnipe, Vapor Snag, or Sword Coast Serpent // Capsizing Wave.

  • Return to Nature enters against artifacts, enchantments, and graveyard engines where one flexible answer has live targets. Prioritize engines that stop attacks, drain resources, enable combo, or make Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty unsafe. It is bad when the opponent presents mostly creatures and spells with no durable target. Its role shifts from artifact/enchantment answer to graveyard containment only when the graveyard is the visible route to a win; avoid spending it on a minor card if Relic of Progenitus can manage the graveyard instead.

  • Scattershot Archer enters against flying-token boards, small evasive commanders, and blue skies decks that pressure Falls while ignoring Colossal Dreadmaw, Tangle Golem, Siege Wurm, and other ground blockers. Use it when repeated pings matter more than a single bounce spell. It is bad against large flyers, reach-resistant boards, and noncreature control. Its role is early stabilization so ramp spells can continue resolving without taking too much evasive damage.

  • Relic of Progenitus enters against graveyard recursion, delve, flashback, reanimation, threshold-style pressure, and commanders that repeatedly use the graveyard. Use the single-card activation to tax graveyard setup when Falls still wants its own graveyard for Treasure Cruise; use full exile when a visible graveyard line would otherwise swing the game. It is bad against decks with no graveyard dependency and in games where exiling Falls graveyard strands Treasure Cruise while not reducing opposing pressure.

Against red burn or red aggressive pressure Side in: Hydroblast; Blue Elemental Blast; Weather the Storm; Unsummon Cut: Read the Tides; Rush of Knowledge; Darksteel Pendant; Spined Megalodon

  • Add cheap red interaction and life-gain effects when the opponent can end the game before Falls reaches seven mana. Reduce slow draw actions and expensive stabilizers that do not affect the first lethal window. Keep Vapor Snag, Lignify, Aethersnipe, and early ramp because the matchup still requires tempo plus mana development.

Against instant-heavy blue control or spell combo Side in: Dispel; Negate; Relic of Progenitus Cut: Utter Insignificance; Colossal Dreadmaw; Slavering Branchsnapper

  • Add permission and graveyard pressure when the opposing plan depends on resolving a noncreature spell or reusing the graveyard. Reduce creature-only answers and vanilla pressure cards that walk into permission without immediate value. Keep Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, Annoyed Altisaur, Maelstrom Colossus, Mulldrifter, Treasure Cruise, and Rush of Knowledge as must-answer card-advantage threats.

Against artifact, enchantment, or graveyard engines Side in: Return to Nature; Relic of Progenitus; Negate Cut: Vapor Snag; Colossal Dreadmaw; Sigiled Starfish

  • Add flexible permanent interaction and graveyard containment when a visible engine beats ordinary combat. Reduce pure tempo bounce effects and slow smoothing permanents when the game will hinge on answering a specific engine. Preserve ramp density so Falls can still cast Scour from Existence when the sideboard answers do not line up.

Against commander-centric creature decks Side in: Witness Protection; Unsummon; Negate Cut: Read the Tides; Spined Megalodon; Darksteel Pendant

  • Add cheap commander answers when one creature creates the opponents pressure, combo, or card flow. Reduce expensive noninteractive spells and slow selection actions. Use Witness Protection, Lignify, Vapor Snag, Aethersnipe, and Sword Coast Serpent // Capsizing Wave as a layered plan, but do not assume any aura or bounce line is sufficient unless Veles-visible text confirms the commander remains contained.

Against flying swarm or evasive small-creature pressure Side in: Scattershot Archer; Unsummon; Weather the Storm Cut: Read the Tides; Rush of Knowledge; Darksteel Pendant

  • Add repeatable anti-flyer pressure, tempo, and life padding when evasive damage makes the ground-ramp plan too slow. Reduce slow draw spells and topdeck manipulation actions that do not affect combat. Keep reach-sized or stabilizing creatures when they are castable, and use Whispersilk Cloak offensively only after survival is stable.

Against aura, equipment, or single-large-threat tempo Side in: Witness Protection; Unsummon; Return to Nature; Dispel Cut: Read the Tides; Rush of Knowledge; Spined Megalodon; Sigiled Starfish

  • Add cheap containment, bounce timing, permanent interaction, and instant protection when the opponent invests multiple resources into one attacker or one commander. Reduce slow card advantage that cannot answer the current board. Prefer waiting for the last profitable legal window when attachments or protection are on the stack, but choose the immediate answer if the next attack is lethal.

Matchup Guidance

  • Aggro: Prioritize survival before cascade greed because Falls wins aggro games by reaching the first stabilizing creature with enough life to attack back. Keep hands with early green mana, a ramp spell such as Rampant Growth, Explore, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Wood Elves, or Farhaven Elf, and either a cheap interactive spell or a body that changes combat. Use Vapor Snag, Lignify, Utter Insignificance, Aethersnipe, and Sword Coast Serpent // Capsizing Wave to break the highest-pressure turn, not to preserve a perfect answer for later. Role cards include Weather the Storm, Unsummon, Witness Protection, Hydroblast, or Blue Elemental Blast when their targets are visible or strongly implied by public colors. Reduce slow smoothing from Darksteel Pendant, expensive draw from Read the Tides, and late-only bodies that do not block before lethal pressure.

  • Burn: Treat life total as the primary resource and avoid paying tempo for card selection when a legal stabilizing action exists. Weather the Storm is the cleanest sideboard role card when the opponent is chaining spells; Hydroblast and Blue Elemental Blast should answer a red lethal spell, red commander, or red permanent that materially changes the clock. Preserve Vapor Snag and Unsummon for attackers carrying damage bursts or for buying the turn needed to cast Annoyed Altisaur, Walker of the Grove, Spined Megalodon, Timberland Ancient, or another large blocker. Do not assume Forceful Denial, Dispel, or Negate can answer every burn line; follow Veles legal actions and visible stack text.

  • Tempo: Force the opponent to spend interaction on ramp and medium threats before committing Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty into an obvious punish window. Develop mana with Arcane Signet, Simic Signet, Fellwar Stone, Mind Stone, Seer's Lantern, Rampant Growth, and Growth Spiral, then present threats that generate value even if answered, especially Mulldrifter, Annoyed Altisaur, Maelstrom Colossus, Wretched Gryff, and Treasure Cruise. Role cards include Dispel, Negate, and Unsummon when the tempo deck depends on one stack fight or one suited attacker. Reduce clunky sorcery-speed selection that cannot protect the turn it enables.

  • Control: Accumulate mana, cards, and must-answer threats instead of walking every large spell into open permission. Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty is a commitment gate: cast it when Falls can either gain value soon, recast through commander tax, or force the opponent to answer another threat first. Rush of Knowledge, Treasure Cruise, Read the Tides, Mulldrifter, Mental Journey, and cycling land/spell options help recover from removal-heavy exchanges. Role cards include Negate and Dispel to protect cascade payoffs, draw spells, and commander turns; Relic of Progenitus only when the control deck visibly uses its graveyard. Reduce creature-only answers such as Lignify when the opposing win condition is mostly noncreature.

  • Removal-heavy decks: Sequence redundant threats before fragile engine turns because Falls can win by exhausting one-for-one answers. Lead with castable bodies like Tangle Golem, Spire Golem, Gearseeker Serpent, Colossal Dreadmaw, or Tolarian Terror when they pressure life totals without risking the commander. Use Whispersilk Cloak after a threat matters on board, not as an unsupported setup play into removal. Crashing Drawbridge is valuable when haste turns a top-end creature into immediate pressure, but do not spend a key turn on it if the opponent already has lethal pressure. Role cards include Negate or Dispel when removal is stack-based; Witness Protection only if their own commander is the important threat.

  • Midrange: Win the mana-and-card-size contest by making every turn either ramp, draw, or a board body that invalidates smaller creatures. Fierce Empath should look for a top-end creature only when the hand can realistically cast it or when finding a specific stabilizer is worth revealing the plan. Krosan Drover can make the heavy creature chain faster, but it is not more important than surviving combat. Use Rush of Knowledge when a high mana-value permanent is already present and the stack window is not punishing. Role cards include Witness Protection, Unsummon, or Return to Nature if the midrange deck is built around a commander, aura, equipment, artifact, or enchantment engine.

  • Big mana: Pressure the setup turns while preserving answers for the first threat that beats Falls in size or inevitability. Ramp mirrors reward Skyshroud Claim, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Elvish Aberration, Krosan Tusker, Generous Ent, and Greater Tanuki as mana development, but the pilot must still decide when to stop ramping and start attacking. Scour from Existence is a late universal answer, so avoid spending smaller interaction on a merely large creature if an engine permanent or commander is the real problem. Role cards include Negate for noncreature payoff turns and Return to Nature for visible artifact/enchantment engines.

  • Combo: Identify the visible dependency and hold the answer for that dependency rather than interacting with filler. Use Forceful Denial, Negate, or Dispel only on a spell that public information makes important; do not counter a cantrip automatically. Relic of Progenitus pressures graveyard combo, Return to Nature pressures artifact/enchantment combo, and Witness Protection or Lignify pressures creature-commander combo when legal text supports containment. Falls can race slower combo by landing Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty into cascade threats, but the commitment should consider open mana, known cards, and whether waiting gives the opponent a faster deterministic line.

  • Graveyard decks: Treat Relic of Progenitus as a timing-sensitive resource, not a default early play to cash in. Use single-card pressure when it slows setup while preserving Falls graveyard for Treasure Cruise; use full graveyard exile when a visible graveyard action would produce a major threat, recursion loop, or lethal swing. Return to Nature can serve as graveyard interaction when the legal mode and target are visible. Reduce bounce-only answers if the opponent will simply replay or recur the same threat.

  • Artifact/enchantment decks: Preserve Return to Nature, Natural Reclamation, and Scour from Existence for permanents that actually stop Falls from attacking, cascading, drawing, or surviving. Negate can stop a key noncreature engine before it resolves, but the pilot should prefer board development when the opponent has no visible payoff. Lignify, Witness Protection, and Utter Insignificance matter only if the artifact/enchantment shell still relies on a creature. Do not use Vapor Snag as permanent interaction unless the tempo swing itself is enough.

  • Go-wide decks: Stabilize with large blockers, bounce the highest-tempo attacker, and avoid racing until Falls can survive the crack-back. Scattershot Archer is a priority role card against small flying boards; Weather the Storm buys time against swarm damage plus spell chains. It of the Horrid Swarm, Siege Wurm, Walker of the Grove, Eldrazi Devastator, Ulamog's Crusher, and Annoyed Altisaur can dominate ground combat once castable. Use Crashing Drawbridge defensively when haste enables a stabilizing blocker to also threaten a quick reversal.

  • Single-threat decks: Answer the one threat cleanly and then punish the opponent for investing too much into it. Witness Protection, Lignify, Unsummon, Vapor Snag, Aethersnipe, and Sword Coast Serpent // Capsizing Wave form the layered plan, with Scour from Existence as the late catch-all. If the threat carries auras or equipment, wait for the last legal window that maximizes tempo only when Veles shows the action remains legal. If the single threat is evasive, prioritize Scattershot Archer only when its damage or pressure actually lines up with the creature size.

Specific Matchup Notes

  • General/archetype-only note: Exact opponents are absent, so treat these notes as scouting defaults and let revealed cards override assumptions. Falls should begin each match by identifying whether the opponent is pressuring life, attacking mana, using the graveyard, building around a commander, or trying to win through a noncreature engine.

  • Red aggressive or burn-heavy decks: Role cards are Hydroblast, Blue Elemental Blast, Weather the Storm, and sometimes Unsummon. Priority targets are burn spells that change the clock, red commanders that keep damage flowing, and tempo plays that stop Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty or a large stabilizer from mattering. Reduce slow top-end that does not block soon and slow selection when life total is already the bottleneck.

  • Blue control or spell-combo decks: Role cards are Negate, Dispel, and sometimes Relic of Progenitus if the graveyard is part of the engine. Priority targets are the spell that counters a cascade payoff, removes Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, wins a stack fight, or enables a visible combo turn. Reduce sorcery-speed removal that lacks legal targets and expensive creatures when the hand cannot force through one threat at a time.

  • Graveyard decks: Role cards are Relic of Progenitus and sometimes Return to Nature when Veles shows a legal graveyard target. Priority targets are graveyard cards or pending actions that create recursion, a large threat, or lethal pressure. Preserve Treasure Cruise value when the opponent is not close to using the graveyard, but use graveyard interaction immediately when public information shows a high-impact graveyard window.

  • Artifact or enchantment engines: Role cards are Return to Nature, Negate, and sometimes Witness Protection if the engine depends on a creature commander. Priority targets are permanents that stop attacking, invalidate large creatures, generate repeated cards or mana, or protect the opponent from combat. Keep Natural Reclamation and Scour from Existence for visible permanents that matter more than ordinary blockers.

  • Small evasive creature decks: Role cards are Scattershot Archer, Unsummon, and Witness Protection when legal targets line up. Priority targets are evasive threats carrying the clock, especially when Falls has ground blockers but cannot race in the air. Spire Golem, Gearseeker Serpent, Tolarian Terror, and Whispersilk Cloak can reverse the race only after survival is stable.

  • Commander-centric single-threat decks: Role cards are Witness Protection, Unsummon, Negate, or Dispel according to whether the threat is permanent-based or stack-protected. Priority targets are the commander, protection spell, aura, equipment, or recast window that makes the same threat keep returning. Lignify, Utter Insignificance, Vapor Snag, Aethersnipe, and Sword Coast Serpent // Capsizing Wave are layered answers, but Veles legality and visible timing decide which one is usable.

  • Go-wide ground creature decks: Do not over-sideboard into narrow one-for-one answers unless a commander or engine is the reason the board grows. Falls should keep ramp, large blockers, and cascade pressure as the primary plan, using Weather the Storm only when the damage race is genuinely about life total and Negate only when a noncreature payoff is the visible source of the swarm.

  • Big-mana mirrors and ramp commanders: Role cards are Negate for noncreature payoff turns and Return to Nature for artifact or enchantment acceleration that materially changes the game. Do not cut too much top-end; Falls still needs to end the game with Annoyed Altisaur, Maelstrom Colossus, Ulamog's Crusher, Eldrazi Devastator, or another large body. Scour from Existence remains the late catch-all for threats no narrow sideboard card answers cleanly.

  • Aura, equipment, or protected-attacker decks: Role cards are Unsummon, Witness Protection, Return to Nature, and sometimes Dispel. Priority targets are the permanent or protection spell that converts one creature into a lethal or unanswerable clock. If Veles shows a profitable response after the opponent commits attachments, prefer the tempo swing; if the next attack is lethal, answer immediately rather than waiting for perfect timing.

Risk Summary

  • Mana risk: Falls can draw too many six-plus mana cards before enough lands, signets, or land-search effects. Mulligan or sequence toward early green and blue access so Explore, Growth Spiral, Rampant Growth, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Skyshroud Claim, Wood Elves, Farhaven Elf, Elvish Aberration, Krosan Tusker, Generous Ent, and Greater Tanuki can bridge into the top end.

  • Matchup risk: Fast evasion and burn can beat Falls before Annoyed Altisaur, Walker of the Grove, Eldrazi Devastator, or Ulamog's Crusher stabilizes. Against pressure, prioritize blockers, bounce, life-gain sideboard roles, and legal removal over slow card advantage.

  • Draw risk: Rush of Knowledge, Read the Tides, Treasure Cruise, Mulldrifter, Opt, Preordain, Serum Visions, Sigiled Starfish, Darksteel Pendant, and Mental Journey can smooth awkward games, but spending a turn selecting cards while under lethal pressure is a losing exchange.

  • Over-sideboarding risk: Too many reactive cards can dilute the ramp-cascade plan. Add narrow role cards only when revealed cards show targets, and keep enough mana development plus large spells for Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty to turn the corner.

  • Graveyard risk: Relic of Progenitus can weaken Falls's own Treasure Cruise if used casually. Treat graveyard exile as a timed answer to a visible opposing resource, not a default value action.

  • Sweeper/removal risk: Removal-heavy opponents can punish tapping out for Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty before Falls can gain value. Lead with redundant threats when possible, and commit the commander when the board, hand, or stack context makes waiting worse.

  • Closer risk: Large creatures without evasion can stall against tokens or expendable blockers. Use Whispersilk Cloak, bounce, haste from Crashing Drawbridge, and cascade chains to convert size into actual damage.

  • Interaction risk: Forceful Denial, Negate, Dispel, Hydroblast, and Blue Elemental Blast are strongest when held for pivotal spells. Do not spend interaction on low-impact cantrips or creatures unless the visible clock or combo dependency makes that spell decisive.

  • Sequencing risk: Casting expensive threats before developing mana can strand follow-up plays. Build mana first unless a legal threat, answer, or combat action prevents immediate loss or creates a decisive commander-cascade turn.

Test Feedback Checklist

  • Deciding factor: Which turn or decision most changed the game: early ramp, resolving Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, missing a land drop, spending interaction, sideboarding, or failing to close after a large creature resolved?

  • Mulligans: Did the opening hand have green and blue access, at least one early mana play such as Rampant Growth, Explore, Growth Spiral, Arcane Signet, Simic Signet, Fellwar Stone, or Mind Stone, and a realistic path to six-plus mana?

  • Mana: Did Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Skyshroud Claim, Wood Elves, Farhaven Elf, Krosan Tusker, Elvish Aberration, Generous Ent, or Greater Tanuki fix the game, arrive too late, or get stranded by missing colors?

  • Velocity: Did Opt, Preordain, Serum Visions, Sigiled Starfish, Darksteel Pendant, Mulldrifter, Treasure Cruise, Read the Tides, Mental Journey, or Rush of Knowledge improve the next two turns, or did selection consume a turn while the opponent's clock mattered more?

  • Commander engine: Did casting Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty produce immediate cascade value, bait removal at an acceptable time, or sit in hand because commander tax, board pressure, or open interaction made the commitment unsafe?

  • Top-end conversion: Did Annoyed Altisaur, Maelstrom Colossus, Eldrazi Devastator, Ulamog's Crusher, Walker of the Grove, Timberland Ancient, Spined Megalodon, or Colossal Dreadmaw stabilize, pressure life, or merely get chump-blocked?

  • Removal and tempo: Were Lignify, Utter Insignificance, Vapor Snag, Aethersnipe, Sword Coast Serpent // Capsizing Wave, Witness Protection, Unsummon, and Scour from Existence used on threats that actually changed the clock or engine state?

  • Stack discipline: Did Forceful Denial, Negate, Dispel, Hydroblast, or Blue Elemental Blast stop the pivotal spell, or were they spent before the opponent exposed a decisive action?

  • Sideboard: Did Weather the Storm, Relic of Progenitus, Return to Nature, and Scattershot Archer have visible targets or matchup pressure, or did sideboarding dilute the ramp-cascade plan?

  • Closing: Did Whispersilk Cloak, Crashing Drawbridge, bounce, or repeated large attackers convert board advantage into lethal damage before the opponent rebuilt?

  • Role and mistakes: Did Falls correctly identify whether it was stabilizing, racing, grinding, or forcing through one threat, and were any passes, attacks, blocks, or tap-out choices inconsistent with visible board state?

  • Stranded and standout cards: Which cards stayed in hand for three or more turns, which cards changed the game immediately, and which cards looked strong or weak only because of matchup context?

First Tuning Questions

  • Mana base question: If losses come from color stumbles or missed early land drops, should the deck increase early fixing density around effects like Rampant Growth, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, and Skyshroud Claim, or are tapped/cycling lands such as Tranquil Thicket, Lonely Sandbar, Thornwood Falls, and Halimar Depths slowing key turns?

  • Ramp quantity question: If hands with Annoyed Altisaur, Maelstrom Colossus, Eldrazi Devastator, and Ulamog's Crusher lose before casting spells, is the top-end count too high relative to cheap ramp, cheap blockers, and selection?

  • Velocity question: If games stall with lands and large creatures but no pressure, should Rush of Knowledge, Read the Tides, Treasure Cruise, and Mulldrifter remain enough card flow, or does the list need more low-cost selection before the commander turn?

  • Aggro plan question: If red or evasive decks are the problem, are Weather the Storm, Hydroblast, Blue Elemental Blast, Scattershot Archer, Witness Protection, and Unsummon enough sideboard coverage, or are too many slow expensive creatures still left after sideboarding?

  • Control plan question: If blue or removal-heavy opponents beat the first big spell, should Falls preserve more threat redundancy and hold Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty longer, or should sideboard counterspells like Negate and Dispel be prioritized more aggressively?

  • Closer question: If large creatures stabilize but do not end games, is Whispersilk Cloak doing enough, should Crashing Drawbridge be protected more carefully, or are bounce lines with Aethersnipe and Sword Coast Serpent // Capsizing Wave being held too long?

  • Interaction mix question: If single commanders or enchantment/artifact engines dominate games, should Lignify, Utter Insignificance, Natural Reclamation, Return to Nature, and Scour from Existence be weighted differently in play and sideboarding?

  • Graveyard conflict question: If Relic of Progenitus is needed often, does it conflict too much with Treasure Cruise, or are pilots simply activating it before the opponent presents a visible graveyard payoff?

  • Role conflict question: If Falls loses while trying to cantrip, ramp, defend, and hold counters at once, which role should be simplified for each matchup: faster commander-cascade, lower-curve stabilization, or slower permission-backed threat deployment?

Veles Tactical Policy

Policy: Opening Keep Gate

Priority: High Decision families: mulligan Cards: Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty; Rampant Growth; Explore; Growth Spiral; Arcane Signet; Simic Signet; Fellwar Stone; Mind Stone; Cultivate; Kodama's Reach Phase windows: pregame, opening hand, mulligan decisions Runtime cues: prompt:mulligan; opening hand; commander available Use when: evaluating any opening hand before the first keep decision. Avoid when: the rules engine has already locked the keep or bottom decision. Instructions: Keep hands with two or more lands, green access, a blue path by turn three, and one early ramp or selection spell; ship hands with only six-plus mana threats and no acceleration unless already on a deep mulligan. Treat Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty as a payoff that needs mana first, not as a reason to keep a slow hand alone. Pilot skill floor: basic No-API allowed: no Light-model allowed: yes

Policy: London Bottom Discipline

Priority: Medium Decision families: mulligan, selection Cards: Annoyed Altisaur; Maelstrom Colossus; Eldrazi Devastator; Ulamog's Crusher; Spined Megalodon; Colossal Dreadmaw; Timberland Ancient Phase windows: pregame, post-mulligan bottom choices Runtime cues: prompt:bottom; mulligan count; visible kept hand Use when: choosing cards to put on bottom after taking a mulligan. Avoid when: the prompt requires random discard or a non-hand zone choice. Instructions: Bottom redundant top-end before lands, ramp, and color fixing. Preserve at least one castable ramp spell and enough lands to reach the first three turns. Keep one large threat only when the hand can realistically cast ramp first. Pilot skill floor: basic No-API allowed: no Light-model allowed: yes

Policy: First Land And Early Fixing

Priority: Medium Decision families: mana Cards: Command Tower; Thornwood Falls; Evolving Wilds; Terramorphic Expanse; Halimar Depths; Tranquil Thicket; Lonely Sandbar Phase windows: turns 1-3, precombat main phase Runtime cues: action:play Command Tower; action:play Thornwood Falls; action:activate Evolving Wilds; action:activate Terramorphic Expanse Use when: selecting the first land drop or a fetch activation during early setup in the first three turns. Avoid when: a survival interaction spell must be held up this turn. Instructions: Prioritize untapped or fixing land that gives both colors over cycling lands. Use Evolving Wilds and Terramorphic Expanse to repair missing green before missing blue unless the hand already has green ramp and lacks blue for Growth Spiral, cantrips, or Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty. Pilot skill floor: basic No-API allowed: no Light-model allowed: yes

Priority: Low Decision families: mana Cards: Command Tower Phase windows: precombat main phase, postcombat main phase Runtime cues: action:play Command Tower Use when: no land has been played this turn and the legal action list contains exactly one land-play action named Command Tower. Avoid when: any other legal land-play action is present. Instructions: Choose the Command Tower land-play action. Pilot skill floor: none No-API allowed: yes Light-model allowed: yes

Policy: Early Ramp Before Top-End

Priority: Medium Decision families: mana, priority Cards: Rampant Growth; Explore; Growth Spiral; Cultivate; Kodama's Reach; Skyshroud Claim; Wood Elves; Farhaven Elf; Coiling Oracle Phase windows: turns 2-5, main phases with priority Runtime cues: action:cast Rampant Growth; action:cast Cultivate; action:cast Kodama's Reach; action:cast Skyshroud Claim; action:cast Wood Elves; action:cast Farhaven Elf Use when: hand contains ramp and expensive creatures or commander-cascade payoffs. Avoid when: the opponent has lethal pressure or a visible engine that requires immediate interaction. Instructions: Develop mana before casting medium threats. Prefer ramp that fixes missing colors, then ramp that adds the most future mana. Cast Coiling Oracle early when it helps hit land drops or blocks small attackers. Pilot skill floor: basic No-API allowed: no Light-model allowed: yes

Policy: Commander Cascade Commitment Gate

Priority: High Decision families: priority, mana Cards: Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty; Annoyed Altisaur; Maelstrom Colossus; Aethersnipe; Wretched Gryff; Ulamog's Crusher; Eldrazi Devastator Phase windows: main phases with enough mana for commander or six-plus mana spell Runtime cues: action:cast Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty; action:cast Annoyed Altisaur; action:cast Maelstrom Colossus Use when: deciding whether to spend the turn on Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty or a cascade-enabled six-plus spell. Avoid when: open opposing mana, known removal, or a faster visible clock makes waiting with interaction materially safer. Instructions: Commit when the spell produces immediate cascade value, stabilizes the board, or waiting gives the opponent more draw steps than Falls can afford. Delay when holding up Forceful Denial, Negate, Dispel, Hydroblast, or Blue Elemental Blast answers the opponent's pivotal line. Pilot skill floor: intermediate No-API allowed: no Light-model allowed: yes

Policy: Fierce Empath Threat Selection

Priority: Medium Decision families: selection Cards: Fierce Empath; Annoyed Altisaur; Maelstrom Colossus; Ulamog's Crusher; Eldrazi Devastator; Walker of the Grove; Spined Megalodon Phase windows: triggered search resolution, main phase tutor resolution Runtime cues: prompt:search; action:choose Fierce Empath Use when: Fierce Empath asks for a creature card from library. Avoid when: the visible legal candidates do not include a six-plus creature or the search is optional and declining is legal for a specific revealed-information reason. Instructions: Select a creature that fits the current role: Annoyed Altisaur or Maelstrom Colossus for cascade pressure, Ulamog's Crusher for inevitability, Spined Megalodon or Walker of the Grove for stabilizing bodies. Use visible mana, commander state, and opponent clock to choose. Pilot skill floor: intermediate No-API allowed: no Light-model allowed: yes

Priority: Medium Decision families: selection, mana Cards: Krosan Tusker; Elvish Aberration; Generous Ent; Greater Tanuki; Greater Sandwurm; Rampant Growth; Cultivate; Kodama's Reach; Skyshroud Claim Phase windows: main phase, end step, search resolution Runtime cues: action:cycle Krosan Tusker; action:basic landcycling; prompt:search library for Forest; prompt:search library for Island Use when: choosing land search targets or whether to use a landcycling action. Avoid when: spending the card prevents casting a necessary spell already available this turn. Instructions: Fix missing colors first, then increase green count for land-ramp chains, then blue count for commander and interaction. Use landcycling before missing a land drop, and delay it when the hand already has enough lands and needs the creature body. Pilot skill floor: basic No-API allowed: no Light-model allowed: yes

Policy: Cantrip And Top Manipulation Timing

Priority: Low Decision families: selection, mana Cards: Opt; Preordain; Serum Visions; Sigiled Starfish; Darksteel Pendant; Halimar Depths Phase windows: early turns, end step, precombat main phase before land decisions Runtime cues: action:cast Opt; action:cast Preordain; action:cast Serum Visions; action:activate Sigiled Starfish; action:activate Darksteel Pendant Use when: a selection action can affect land drop, ramp sequencing, or next-turn threat timing. Avoid when: tapping mana prevents required interaction or a stronger ramp play this turn. Instructions: Use selection before land drops when it can reveal a better land or ramp line. Use instant-speed Opt, Sigiled Starfish, and Darksteel Pendant late when holding interaction matters. Bottom excess top-end when mana is not developed. Pilot skill floor: basic No-API allowed: no Light-model allowed: yes

Policy: Card-Draw Refill Timing

Priority: Medium Decision families: priority, selection Cards: Mulldrifter; Treasure Cruise; Rush of Knowledge; Read the Tides; Mental Journey; Wretched Gryff Phase windows: main phases, post-stabilization turns Runtime cues: action:cast Mulldrifter; action:cast Treasure Cruise; action:cast Rush of Knowledge; action:cast Read the Tides; action:cast Mental Journey Use when: deciding whether to spend mana on cards instead of board development or interaction. Avoid when: the opponent has visible lethal pressure or a must-answer permanent already in play. Instructions: Refill after establishing mana or a blocker, not before preventing lethal damage. Use Rush of Knowledge when a high mana-value permanent is visible under your control. Treat delve for Treasure Cruise as a resource conflict with graveyard-dependent future choices only when such choices are visible. Pilot skill floor: intermediate No-API allowed: no Light-model allowed: yes

Policy: Removal And Bounce Target Gate

Priority: High Decision families: interaction, priority Cards: Lignify; Utter Insignificance; Vapor Snag; Aethersnipe; Sword Coast Serpent // Capsizing Wave; Scour from Existence; Witness Protection; Unsummon Phase windows: opponent combat, opponent end step, own main phase before attacks, stack-response windows Runtime cues: action:cast Lignify; action:cast Vapor Snag; action:cast Scour from Existence; action:cast Witness Protection; action:cast Unsummon Use when: choosing whether and what to answer with removal or bounce. Avoid when: the target is low impact and a larger commander, combo piece, lethal attacker, or lock permanent is visible or likely next. Instructions: Answer commanders, evasive clocks, combo enablers, and blockers preventing lethal before generic bodies. Prefer temporary bounce for tempo, lethal openings, or saving life; prefer Lignify, Utter Insignificance, Witness Protection, and Scour from Existence for threats that must stay answered. Pilot skill floor: intermediate No-API allowed: no Light-model allowed: yes

Policy: Permission Commitment Gate

Priority: High Decision families: interaction, priority Cards: Forceful Denial; Dispel; Negate; Hydroblast; Blue Elemental Blast Phase windows: stack response windows, opponent main phase, combat trick windows Runtime cues: action:cast Forceful Denial; action:cast Dispel; action:cast Negate; action:cast Hydroblast; action:cast Blue Elemental Blast Use when: an opposing spell or ability is on the stack and a counter-action is legal. Avoid when: the stack object is low impact, does not affect the board or clock, and holding permission protects Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty or a six-plus payoff next turn. Instructions: Spend counters on removal aimed at the commander engine, lethal burn, opposing combo pieces, board wipes, and spells that invalidate the current threat. Do not counter routine cantrips or small creatures unless the visible game state makes that spell decisive. Pilot skill floor: intermediate No-API allowed: no Light-model allowed: yes

Policy: Combat Stabilization

Priority: High Decision families: combat Cards: Coiling Oracle; Wood Elves; Farhaven Elf; Crashing Drawbridge; Tangle Golem; Spire Golem; Tolarian Terror; Colossal Dreadmaw Phase windows: declare blockers, precombat interaction windows Runtime cues: prompt:blockers; action:block; visible attackers Use when: opponent attacks and Falls can block, bounce, or remove a creature. Avoid when: blocking sacrifices a needed engine piece and life total remains above the visible two-turn clock. Instructions: Preserve life against evasive or high-power clocks before protecting small ramp bodies. Trade expendable ramp creatures after their enter effects have resolved. Keep Crashing Drawbridge when haste will create a decisive counterattack unless blocking is required to survive. Pilot skill floor: intermediate No-API allowed: no Light-model allowed: yes

Policy: Closing With Large Creatures

Priority: Medium Decision families: combat, priority Cards: Whispersilk Cloak; Crashing Drawbridge; Ulamog's Crusher; Eldrazi Devastator; Annoyed Altisaur; Maelstrom Colossus; Colossal Dreadmaw; Spined Megalodon; Timberland Ancient Phase windows: precombat main phase, declare attackers Runtime cues: action:equip Whispersilk Cloak; action:activate Crashing Drawbridge; prompt:attackers Use when: Falls controls one or more large creatures and can pressure life total. Avoid when: attacking opens lethal on the backswing or loses the only blocker against a larger visible clock. Instructions: Convert stabilized boards into damage with haste, evasion, and repeated attacks. Equip or activate haste before combat only when the creature can attack legally and the mana is not needed for interaction. Attack with Ulamog's Crusher when annihilator pressure matters and survival blockers remain adequate. Pilot skill floor: intermediate No-API allowed: no Light-model allowed: yes

Policy: Sideboard Plan Selection

Priority: Medium Decision families: sideboard, matchup assessment, risk management Cards: Hydroblast; Blue Elemental Blast; Weather the Storm; Dispel; Negate; Witness Protection; Unsummon; Return to Nature; Scattershot Archer; Relic of Progenitus Phase windows: sideboarding, pre-lock review Runtime cues: prompt:sideboard; opponent colors visible; revealed commander role; visible graveyard dependency; visible artifact or enchantment engine; evasive creature pressure Use when: Veles asks for a sideboard plan and public information identifies red pressure, stack interaction, graveyard reliance, permanent engines, commander-centric pressure, or small evasive pressure. Avoid when: the matchup signal is weak and adding narrow answers would dilute ramp, threat density, or the ability to cast five-plus mana cascade payoffs. Instructions: Select the narrowest legal plan that answers the public axis of pressure while preserving Falls core of mana development, Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, and large cascade threats. Prefer two to four changes unless multiple sideboard cards have clear live targets. Never replace ramp density casually in a Commander-family game where recasting the commander and reaching top-end mana are central. Pilot skill floor: intermediate No-API allowed: no Light-model allowed: yes

Policy: Sideboard Lock Submission

Priority: High Decision families: sideboard, validation, registration integrity Cards: Hydroblast; Blue Elemental Blast; Weather the Storm; Dispel; Negate; Witness Protection; Unsummon; Return to Nature; Scattershot Archer; Relic of Progenitus Phase windows: sideboarding, sideboard lock submission Runtime cues: prompt:sideboard; action:submit sideboard; validation:registered deck; validation:sideboard count Use when: a sideboard decision must be finalized for the next game. Avoid when: the proposed exchange names a card outside the registered 100-card main deck or registered 10-card sideboard, changes counts illegally, or uses a generic placeholder instead of an exact card name. Instructions: Submit only exact legal exchanges using registered card names. Confirm every incoming card is one of the ten registered sideboard cards and every outgoing card is one of the registered main-deck cards. If generated changes fail validation, fall back to the closest conservative legal plan that preserves ramp, commander-cascade pressure, and enough early interaction for the matchup. Pilot skill floor: basic No-API allowed: no Light-model allowed: yes

Policy: Narrow Answer Deployment

Priority: Medium Decision families: interaction, stack response windows, graveyard timing, permanent interaction, combat response windows Cards: Hydroblast; Blue Elemental Blast; Weather the Storm; Dispel; Negate; Witness Protection; Unsummon; Return to Nature; Scattershot Archer; Relic of Progenitus Phase windows: stack response windows, combat response windows, main phase activation windows, opponent end step Runtime cues: action:cast Hydroblast; action:cast Blue Elemental Blast; action:cast Weather the Storm; action:cast Dispel; action:cast Negate; action:cast Witness Protection; action:cast Unsummon; action:cast Return to Nature; action:activate Scattershot Archer; action:activate Relic of Progenitus Use when: a sideboard card has a visible high-impact target or protects the turn where Falls commits Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty, a cascade payoff, or a stabilizing blocker. Avoid when: the sideboard card would answer a low-impact object, consume mana needed for ramp or a decisive threat, or fire before the opponent has committed the resource it is meant to punish. Instructions: Use narrow cards for the pressure they were added to answer. Hold blast effects for red spells or red permanents that change the clock, hold Dispel and Negate for decisive stack points, time Unsummon after investment when possible, use Return to Nature on engines rather than minor permanents, activate Relic of Progenitus around Treasure Cruise when safe, and treat Scattershot Archer as stabilization rather than a clock. Pilot skill floor: intermediate No-API allowed: no Light-model allowed: yes
