Deck Name And Archetype
-
Identity: Amulet Titan, Modern, combo-ramp. The deck is built to convert land drops, bounce lands, Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, Green Sun's Zenith, Summoner's Pact, and Primeval Titan into explosive mana and deterministic battlefield pressure rather than playing a normal midrange exchange.
-
Count validation: Main deck registers exactly 60 cards and sideboard registers exactly 15 cards from the provided list. The main deck has 35 land cards if Dryad Arbor is counted as a land creature, 25 nonland cards, and a high density of engine lands: Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, Crumbling Vestige, Urza's Saga, Boseiju, Who Endures, The Mycosynth Gardens, Mirrorpool, Hanweir Battlements, Tolaria West, Urza's Cave, Echoing Deeps, Shifting Woodland, Vesuva, and Otawara, Soaring City.
-
Tag validation: Use tags
comboandramp; the duplicate submitted tag pair should be normalized tocombo, ramp. The runtime pilot should classify this as a proactive engine deck with interaction-light maindeck game 1 plans and sideboard-specific disruption plans after boarding. -
Stock status: Treat this as a hybrid Amulet Titan list, not a fully stock baseline. Primeval Titan, Amulet of Vigor, Summoner's Pact, bounce lands, Urza's Saga, Tolaria West, and Hanweir Battlements are stock Amulet signals; Green Sun's Zenith, Scapeshift, Spelunking, Aftermath Analyst, Malevolent Rumble, Cultivator Colossus, Shifting Woodland, Echoing Deeps, and Fire Magic create a more customized land-combo shell that needs deck-specific decisions rather than generic Amulet heuristics.
-
Legality status: Modern legality must be checked against the active rules source before sanctioned testing, especially for newly printed or less common names such as Fire Magic and Icetill Explorer. Current public reporting from December 17, 2024 states Green Sun's Zenith was unbanned in Modern, but Veles should still rely on its runtime card database and rules engine rather than this guide for legality certainty: https://www.polygon.com/mtg-magic-the-gathering/498586/banned-and-restricted-one-ring-modern-horizons
-
Card-text risk: Card text check required for Fire Magic and Icetill Explorer before giving tactical instructions beyond sideboard-role placeholders. Card text check required for any runtime line involving exact modes, costs, or restrictions if Forge or the active card database exposes uncertainty.
-
Mana concern: The deck has many lands that are powerful only with timing support, so the pilot must reason from visible legal land plays and available mana rather than assuming every land produces immediate colored mana. Crumbling Vestige, Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, Tolaria West, The Mycosynth Gardens, Mirrorpool, Hanweir Battlements, Vesuva, and Urza's Saga all create sequencing traps when the rules engine offers only one land play.
-
Role concern: The maindeck has limited direct removal and stack interaction, so the default role is to race, force a Primeval Titan or Scapeshift turn, or assemble Urza's Saga pressure before the opponent's plan becomes lethal. Boseiju, Who Endures, Otawara, Soaring City, Zuran Orb, and post-board cards are the main ways to interact without abandoning the combo-ramp identity.
-
Opponent info status: No opponent deck is supplied for this guide batch. Runtime decisions must treat unknown hidden cards as unknown, use only visible board state and public information, and shift matchup labels only when Veles provides an opponent archetype, revealed cards, sideboard stage, or prior-game evidence.
Thesis
-
Assemble an Amulet land engine first, then convert it into a Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, Cultivator Colossus, or Urza's Saga kill. The highest-value starts combine Amulet of Vigor or Spelunking with Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, Crumbling Vestige, extra land drops, and a payoff tutor so the deck can jump from setup mana to a decisive battlefield in one turn.
-
Prioritize mana acceleration that changes the current turn, not generic land development. A hand that makes many tapped lands slowly is weaker than a hand that presents Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, Arboreal Grazer, or Green Sun's Zenith into a creature setup while preserving a path to Primeval Titan or Scapeshift.
-
Win by making land tutors into threats, haste, constructs, recursion, or lethal resource swings. Primeval Titan should usually turn land slots into immediate pressure through Hanweir Battlements, bounce lands, Urza's Saga, The Mycosynth Gardens, Mirrorpool, Tolaria West, Boseiju, Who Endures, or a matchup-specific land rather than just increasing land count.
-
Do not play as a normal fair ramp deck when a payoff line is available. The maindeck has little stack interaction and almost no direct creature removal, so spending turns on low-impact setup while the opponent develops a faster clock is usually worse than forcing a Titan, Scapeshift, Saga, or land-recursion turn.
-
Respect runtime legality and visible choices over all guide heuristics. If Veles exposes only certain legal land searches, targets, modes, or mana payments, choose among those legal actions; do not assume a classic Amulet line exists unless the rules engine presents the needed actions.
-
Prioritize the current bottleneck: find Amulet of Vigor when mana is explosive but missing untap conversion, find payoff when mana is already abundant, find protection or interaction when the opponent's visible board prevents the payoff from mattering, and find stabilizing life or blockers when racing is no longer realistic.
Role Package
-
Threats: Primeval Titan is the primary threat and should be treated as both a win condition and a land tutor engine. Cultivator Colossus is a secondary high-end threat that rewards excess lands and can end games if the hand and battlefield support it. Urza's Saga threatens construct pressure while also finding Amulet of Vigor or Zuran Orb when those artifacts are legal targets.
-
Payoffs: Scapeshift is the main spell payoff for large land counts and should be saved for turns where the searched lands produce a decisive battlefield, lethal setup, or survival swing. Hanweir Battlements turns large creatures into immediate attackers when legal. Mirrorpool and The Mycosynth Gardens are payoff lands when their copied or duplicated object is visible, legal, and worth the mana commitment.
-
Engines: Amulet of Vigor is the defining engine because it converts tapped land entries into immediate mana. Spelunking is the second engine because it supports extra land deployment and reduces tapped-land tempo loss. Gruul Turf and Simic Growth Chamber are the core mana multipliers, especially with untap support. Crumbling Vestige is a bridge land for exact color turns and should be sequenced with attention to the current legal mana need.
-
Velocity: Green Sun's Zenith finds green creature roles, especially Arboreal Grazer for setup or Primeval Titan when mana permits. Summoner's Pact finds green creature payoffs or utility but creates a future payment obligation, so it is a commitment card rather than free velocity. Malevolent Rumble is selection and graveyard setup when the deck needs a permanent, land recursion fuel, or another piece; Card text check required for exact runtime choices.
-
Interaction: Boseiju, Who Endures is the maindeck's cleanest interaction land against artifacts, enchantments, and nonbasic lands when the rules engine exposes channel or land-use lines. Otawara, Soaring Channel is a tempo interaction slot; use it to clear a blocker, hate piece, or lethal threat only when the visible board justifies spending a rare blue channel effect. Zuran Orb is a survival artifact and Saga target, not a default value play.
-
Protection: Tolaria West protects plans by finding Summoner's Pact, Zuran Orb, or utility lands when transmute is legal. Urza's Cave can function as land selection if the active card database exposes that action. Vexing Bauble, Force of Vigor, Collector Ouphe, Dismember, Firespout, Insidious Fungus, Soul-Guide Lantern, and Bojuka Bog become protection or disruption after sideboarding according to matchup needs.
-
Recursion: Aftermath Analyst, Echoing Deeps, Shifting Woodland, and Six support graveyard or land-recursion plans, but exact use must follow visible graveyard contents and legal activated or triggered actions. Do not commit to recursion if the graveyard lacks relevant lands or if the opponent's visible graveyard hate makes waiting impossible.
-
Mana: Forest, Dryad Arbor, Arboreal Grazer, Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, Crumbling Vestige, Vesuva, and bounce-land returns form the tactical mana shell. Dryad Arbor is both land and creature, so it can matter for Green Sun's Zenith, blockers, sacrifice pressure, and land count.
-
Sideboard modules: Dismember and Firespout are creature-control modules. Force of Vigor, Collector Ouphe, Insidious Fungus, and Vexing Bauble are artifact/enchantment or spell-system disruption. Bojuka Bog and Soul-Guide Lantern are graveyard modules. Elvish Reclaimer and Six are land-engine or grind modules. Icetill Explorer and Fire Magic require card text checks before tactical use beyond matchup-role testing.
Primary Win Conditions
-
Primeval Titan is the primary kill engine because it converts one resolved creature into the exact land package Veles exposes as legal. Prioritize this line when the hand or battlefield has Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, Crumbling Vestige, Summoner's Pact, or Green Sun's Zenith and the visible board does not require an immediate defensive line. The setup is mana plus a legal Titan access card; the execution is to search lands that create immediate mana, haste through Hanweir Battlements when legal, pressure through Urza's Saga, utility through Boseiju, Who Endures or Otawara, Soaring City, or copy pressure through Mirrorpool only when the rules engine presents the line. The disruption risk is removal, counterplay, land hate, and graveyard or artifact pressure against supporting engines, so commit faster when waiting exposes Summoner's Pact upkeep, lethal combat, or a hate permanent.
-
Scapeshift is the main spell-based land conversion plan and should be treated as a commitment gate, not a value ramp spell. Prioritize Scapeshift when the current land count and legal search options can create a decisive board: multiple untapping bounce lands with Amulet of Vigor, Urza's Saga pressure, Hanweir Battlements haste support, Zuran Orb survival, Boseiju, Who Endures interaction, The Mycosynth Gardens utility, or Mirrorpool copy potential. Do not assume a deterministic lethal package exists; choose Scapeshift only when visible legal actions show the searched lands and the resulting board or mana swing matters this turn or next turn. If the opponent has visible counter pressure or fast lethal, weigh whether forcing Scapeshift now is better than waiting for Primeval Titan.
-
Urza's Saga is a primary alternate win condition when it can make large constructs and find the missing artifact. Prioritize Saga when the opponent is light on visible blockers or removal, when Amulet of Vigor or Zuran Orb is the best legal search, or when a slower Titan line needs artifact setup. Execution should preserve construct sizing by keeping artifacts when possible, but do not delay a necessary Zuran Orb survival search or Amulet of Vigor engine search for abstract damage. Disruption risk includes land destruction, artifact removal, creature sweepers, and tempo bounce; if the construct line is shrinking or being answered, pivot toward Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, or Cultivator Colossus.
Secondary Win Conditions
-
Cultivator Colossus is the backup high-end payoff when the hand contains lands or the battlefield can keep producing land drops. Prioritize it when Primeval Titan is unavailable, Summoner's Pact can find it legally, or the visible game requires a huge body plus land-chain pressure. Execution is conditional on actual legal play and draw/land-placement prompts; do not assume every land in hand can be deployed unless Forge exposes that sequence. Disruption risk is removal before combat, running out of lands, or tapping out without stabilizing, so prefer this line when the body blocks profitably or threatens immediate pressure.
-
Green Sun's Zenith is a win-path connector rather than a standalone kill. Use it for Primeval Titan when the legal mana value and target options allow; use it for Arboreal Grazer or Dryad Arbor only when early setup, blocking, land-count growth, or exact mana development is the immediate bottleneck. If Aftermath Analyst is legally available through the runtime card pool, Card text check required for exact tutor eligibility and effect timing before treating it as a recursion engine target.
-
The Mycosynth Gardens, Mirrorpool, Vesuva, Echoing Deeps, and Shifting Woodland are conditional copy or recursion-style pressure tools. Use them only from visible legal actions: copy Amulet of Vigor or another relevant artifact/permanent only if the action text and board state support the plan; copy a creature or land effect only when the target is explicitly legal and the result advances combat, mana, or survival. These lands are powerful because they turn existing engines into redundancy, but they are poor blind commitments when no strong visible target exists.
-
Aftermath Analyst and Malevolent Rumble support grind and rebuild lines, but exact card text checks are required for any uncertain resolution detail. Prioritize them when Primeval Titan or Scapeshift has been delayed, the graveyard visibly contains lands or permanents that matter, and the opponent is not presenting immediate lethal. If graveyard hate is visible, use recursion sooner only when waiting is likely to lose the graveyard anyway.
-
Dryad Arbor and Arboreal Grazer can win only by fallback pressure or enabling larger threats. Attack with them when damage is free and blocking is not needed; hold them back when they protect life total, planeswalker-like resources are absent, or sacrifice/edict pressure makes extra bodies relevant.
Emergency Lines
-
When behind on life, stabilize before maximizing engine value. Search or keep Zuran Orb when Urza's Saga, Tolaria West, or another legal line exposes it and life total is the bottleneck; sacrifice lands only when the life swing changes survival math or buys a decisive Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, or Cultivator Colossus turn. Do not sacrifice core lands for small life gains if the next turn requires exact mana.
-
When behind on board, choose blockers, bounce, or removal-like land actions before slow setup. Arboreal Grazer and Dryad Arbor should block when preserving life matters more than chip damage. Boseiju, Who Endures and Otawara, Soaring City should be saved for visible permanents that stop the combo, create lethal pressure, or prevent a payoff from mattering.
-
When behind on cards, convert every tutor into the highest-impact legal resource. Green Sun's Zenith and Summoner's Pact should find a payoff or stabilizer, not a minor setup creature, unless exact mana or a blocker is required. Malevolent Rumble is acceptable selection when the hand lacks a payoff or land engine, but do not spend the turn digging if a legal payoff already stabilizes.
-
When behind on mana or missing an engine, prioritize Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, bounce lands, and Crumbling Vestige sequencing over speculative utility lands. Return lands to hand only when the bounce decision preserves future land drops, exact colors, or a known payoff turn.
-
When win conditions are removed, rebuild through lands and redundancy. Urza's Saga constructs, Cultivator Colossus, Scapeshift, Mirrorpool, The Mycosynth Gardens, Aftermath Analyst, Echoing Deeps, Shifting Woodland, and Vesuva can each become the next pressure source if their legal actions are visible. If no payoff remains, shift to survival, construct growth, and tutor every draw step toward Primeval Titan access.
Resource Model
-
Life is a spendable buffer only when it buys a decisive Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, Cultivator Colossus, or Urza's Saga turn. Preserve life aggressively against fast visible pressure, then convert Zuran Orb into survival when the life gained changes lethal math; do not sacrifice lands that are needed for exact colors, Summoner's Pact upkeep, land count, or a known payoff turn.
-
Hand size is strongest when it contains lands plus a payoff, not when it contains only action. Extra lands fuel Arboreal Grazer, Spelunking, Cultivator Colossus, Scapeshift, bounce-land loops, and recovery after disruption; keep redundant utility lands only when their visible roles are distinct, such as Boseiju, Who Endures for interaction, Hanweir Battlements for haste, Tolaria West for transmute-style access, or Urza's Saga for artifact pressure.
-
Mana is the deck's main conversion engine, and untap effects are worth more than raw land count. Amulet of Vigor turns Gruul Turf and Simic Growth Chamber into explosive mana; Spelunking makes tapped-land sequencing less punishing and can unlock development turns; Crumbling Vestige fixes one critical color at the moment it enters. Count actual legal mana after bounce triggers and untap triggers instead of assuming a scripted line.
-
Board presence matters because the deck wins through permanent-based pressure as often as spell resolution. Urza's Saga constructs convert artifacts into damage, Arboreal Grazer and Dryad Arbor convert small bodies into life protection, and Primeval Titan converts combat into land tutoring. Do not trade away a blocker when the visible clock makes survival the limiting resource.
-
Graveyard value is conditional and must follow visible card text. Aftermath Analyst, Echoing Deeps, Shifting Woodland, Malevolent Rumble, and post-board named cards such as Six or Soul-Guide Lantern can make graveyards matter, but Card text check required for any uncertain target, timing, or transformation detail. Treat the graveyard as a rebuild resource when lands or engines are visible there and as a liability when opposing graveyard hate or your own Soul-Guide Lantern decisions would erase future value.
-
Exile is usually a loss-of-access zone for this deck unless a legal action explicitly references it. Track exiled Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, Amulet of Vigor, and Summoner's Pact as real depletion; do not plan to recover them without visible rules-engine permission.
-
Sacrifice fodder is mostly lands and low-toughness creatures, so spend it only for survival, cost payment, or decisive utility. Zuran Orb can turn spare lands into life, Dryad Arbor can absorb edict or combat pressure, and Urza's Saga can be allowed to sacrifice after chapter III when the artifact search matters. Avoid sacrificing unique utility lands unless their role has already been converted.
-
Tempo is gained by making the opponent answer the wrong axis. Lead with Amulet of Vigor or Spelunking when the hand can exploit them; pivot to Urza's Saga when spell interaction is visible; use Boseiju, Who Endures or Otawara, Soaring City only when the target blocks a payoff, creates lethal pressure, or disrupts a hate permanent.
-
Information is a resource because every tutor and bounce decision commits future lines. Use public board state, revealed hands, graveyards, open mana, and legal action labels to decide whether to expose Summoner's Pact, tap out for Scapeshift, or preserve Boseiju, Who Endures. Never infer hidden removal, counterspells, or hate beyond archetype guidance and revealed information.
-
Sideboard bullets convert narrow slots into matchup-specific resources after boarding. Vexing Bauble, Dismember, Collector Ouphe, Bojuka Bog, Force of Vigor, Elvish Reclaimer, Soul-Guide Lantern, Insidious Fungus, Firespout, Six, Icetill Explorer, and Fire Magic should be valued by the visible matchup role and their exact legal text; Card text check required for Icetill Explorer and Fire Magic before relying on detailed function.
Mana Guide
-
Keep hands that produce early green plus a land engine or payoff path. A strong opener usually has Forest, Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, Crumbling Vestige, or Dryad Arbor access plus Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, Arboreal Grazer, Green Sun's Zenith, Summoner's Pact, Urza's Saga, or Primeval Titan. Mulligan hands that cannot cast early green spells, cannot make meaningful land drops, or rely on a single fragile utility land with no engine.
-
Prioritize green because Arboreal Grazer, Green Sun's Zenith, Malevolent Rumble, Aftermath Analyst, Summoner's Pact, Primeval Titan, Spelunking, Scapeshift, and Cultivator Colossus all pressure green requirements. Crumbling Vestige can fix a one-turn bottleneck, but do not spend its enter trigger casually if the hand needs green for the next legal spell.
-
Sequence tapped and bounce lands around Amulet of Vigor and Spelunking. With Amulet of Vigor, Gruul Turf and Simic Growth Chamber can produce mana before returning a land if the rules engine exposes that timing; with Spelunking, tapped lands and extra land drops may become development tools. Without either engine, avoid bounce-land lines that leave fewer usable lands than the next turn requires.
-
Choose bounce targets to preserve future colors, land count, and utility. Return Crumbling Vestige when another one-shot fixing trigger matters, return a basic Forest when repeated green is already covered, and protect unique lands such as Tolaria West, Hanweir Battlements, Mirrorpool, Boseiju, Who Endures, Otawara, Soaring City, The Mycosynth Gardens, Echoing Deeps, Shifting Woodland, Urza's Cave, or Vesuva when their visible role is still needed.
-
Play lands before drawing only when the current legal line needs immediate mana, landfall-like development, Arboreal Grazer placement, Spelunking extra-land usage, Urza's Saga progression, or a known payoff this turn. Delay a land drop when Malevolent Rumble, Cultivator Colossus, or another visible selection/draw action could change which land should be committed. Do not hold lands merely for style if missing the land drop reduces Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, or Summoner's Pact options.
-
Manage Summoner's Pact as a mana debt, not a free tutor. Cast it only when the payoff wins, stabilizes, or creates a next-turn plan that can pay the upkeep from visible mana. Before passing after Summoner's Pact, count green sources after expected bounce triggers, sacrificed lands, tapped lands, and possible opposing disruption.
-
Treat utility lands as spells with mana costs. Boseiju, Who Endures and Otawara, Soaring City require correct channel timing and available colors; Tolaria West, Urza's Cave, The Mycosynth Gardens, Mirrorpool, Shifting Woodland, Echoing Deeps, Vesuva, and Hanweir Battlements should be activated or copied only when the rules engine presents legal actions and the result advances mana, haste, interaction, survival, or pressure.
-
Use sideboard mana carefully after boarding. Dismember may trade life for tempo, Force of Vigor may require green card resources, Firespout and Fire Magic may require exact colors or text confirmation, and Bojuka Bog can enter tapped or disrupt graveyards at the cost of land sequencing. Card text check required for any uncertain sideboard color or timing detail before committing a mana line.
Mulligan Guide
-
Strong keep: Keep hands with early green, an acceleration permanent, and a payoff path. Examples include Forest plus Arboreal Grazer plus Gruul Turf or Simic Growth Chamber plus Amulet of Vigor; Urza's Saga plus Amulet of Vigor plus bounce land plus Primeval Titan; or Green Sun's Zenith plus lands that cast it and develop toward Primeval Titan, Aftermath Analyst, or Dryad Arbor when the legal action exists.
-
Medium keep: Keep slower hands that have Spelunking plus multiple lands and a clear turn-three or turn-four payoff. Spelunking with Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, Crumbling Vestige, Urza's Saga, and Green Sun's Zenith is acceptable if it casts spells on time and does not fold to one missed land drop.
-
Risky keep: Keep one-engine hands only when the engine is castable and the backup is visible. Amulet of Vigor with bounce lands but no payoff needs Green Sun's Zenith, Summoner's Pact, Urza's Saga, or Malevolent Rumble; Primeval Titan or Scapeshift without acceleration needs enough lands and interaction-free time shown by matchup context.
-
Automatic ship: Mulligan hands with no green source, no castable early spell, no engine, or only utility lands that cannot produce required colors. Also ship hands that contain Summoner's Pact but no plausible upkeep payment after the planned line, hands with Primeval Titan stranded behind insufficient mana, and hands that require drawing a specific untutored card to function.
-
Matchup-dependent keep: Against fast creature pressure, prefer Arboreal Grazer, Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, Urza's Saga, and a quick Primeval Titan path over slow Scapeshift or Cultivator Colossus hands. Against spell-heavy interaction, value Urza's Saga, Boseiju, Who Endures, Cavern-like effects only if legally present, redundant payoffs, and hands that can play through one counter or removal spell without assuming hidden cards.
-
Play/draw rule: On the play, accept slightly more explosive Amulet of Vigor hands because turn-one Amulet can create turn-two or turn-three Primeval Titan pressure. On the draw, require either more resilience, Arboreal Grazer defense, Urza's Saga pressure, Spelunking smoothing, or a reliable green source because the opponent sees one more turn to deploy hate.
-
Trap hand: Do not keep a hand just because it has Primeval Titan, Summoner's Pact, or Scapeshift. If the lands do not produce the required mana in time, if bounce lands strand development without Amulet of Vigor or Spelunking, or if the hand cannot pay Pact, the payoff label is misleading.
-
Trap hand: Do not overvalue Zuran Orb, Otawara, Soaring City, Boseiju, Who Endures, Mirrorpool, Tolaria West, Echoing Deeps, Shifting Woodland, Urza's Cave, The Mycosynth Gardens, or Vesuva in an opener unless the hand already has core mana. Utility lands are strong once the engine works; they are poor substitutes for early green and land volume.
Turn Arc
-
Turn 1: Prefer Amulet of Vigor when it is castable and a bounce land or Urza's Saga line follows. Prefer Arboreal Grazer when it puts Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, Crumbling Vestige, Urza's Saga, or another key land onto the battlefield and preserves a turn-two engine. Play Green Sun's Zenith for Dryad Arbor only when the rules engine offers the legal action and the hand needs acceleration more than future tutor flexibility.
-
Turn 1 deviation: Lead on Urza's Saga when the hand lacks Amulet of Vigor but can pressure through constructs or tutor Amulet later. Lead on Forest or Crumbling Vestige when color stability matters more than exposing a unique utility land. Avoid playing bounce lands without a plan if returning the only functional land slows every turn.
-
Turn 2: Convert the opener into either mana explosion, engine smoothing, or Saga pressure. With Amulet of Vigor, use Gruul Turf or Simic Growth Chamber lines to advance mana and protect the best bounce target. With Spelunking, prioritize extra-land development and tapped-land mitigation. With Urza's Saga, decide whether construct pressure or artifact tutoring is the current plan.
-
Turn 2 deviation: Cast Malevolent Rumble when the hand needs selection or graveyard setup and no stronger acceleration line is available; Card text check required for exact selection and graveyard consequences. Hold Summoner's Pact unless the next turn either wins, stabilizes, or clearly pays the Pact trigger from visible mana.
-
Turn 3: Aim to resolve Primeval Titan, set up Scapeshift, create a decisive Urza's Saga artifact search, or establish a Green Sun's Zenith line. If Primeval Titan is legal, evaluate whether searching haste, bounce, copy, or utility lands is better from visible board state; do not assume a default land pair when blockers, life totals, or hate permanents change the line.
-
Turn 3 deviation: Use Boseiju, Who Endures or Otawara, Soaring City only when a visible permanent or stack object blocks the main payoff or creates a survival problem. Use Zuran Orb only when life total, sacrifice value, or Saga artifact access makes the life swing materially better than preserving lands.
-
Turns 4-5: Chain payoffs rather than merely spending mana. Primeval Titan should find lands that either produce lethal pressure, set up another Titan, enable Hanweir Battlements haste, copy or utility lines, or protect against the visible opposing plan. Scapeshift should be treated as a commitment gate: cast it only when the land count and visible legal outcome justify sacrificing current mana.
-
Turns 4-5 deviation: Cultivator Colossus is a payoff when the hand has lands to convert and the board can exploit the body; do not run it into an avoidable tempo loss if Primeval Titan, Urza's Saga constructs, or interaction solve the same problem. Aftermath Analyst and Shifting Woodland lines require legal text verification from the engine before relying on graveyard conversion.
-
Late game: Preserve inevitability by sequencing tutors and utility lands around what remains in the library and graveyard. Green Sun's Zenith, Summoner's Pact, Tolaria West, Urza's Cave, Urza's Saga, Vesuva, Mirrorpool, Echoing Deeps, and The Mycosynth Gardens can all represent different endgame resources, but only choose lines confirmed by current legal actions and visible targets.
Card Roles
-
Amulet of Vigor: Treat Amulet of Vigor as the highest-leverage engine card because it converts Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, Crumbling Vestige, Urza's Saga, Vesuva, Mirrorpool, and other tapped lands into immediate mana or action. Cast it early when legal unless holding it protects against a visible discard, artifact-hate, or sequencing issue. Multiple Amulet of Vigor copies stack, so preserve exact trigger and mana choices from the rules engine rather than assuming a shortcut.
-
Arboreal Grazer: Use Arboreal Grazer as early acceleration and a blocker when it puts a land from hand onto the battlefield and advances toward Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, Spelunking, or Urza's Saga. Prioritize it against creature pressure and one-mana attackers. Avoid casting it for no land-placement value unless the visible board makes a 0/3 body immediately important.
-
Green Sun's Zenith: Use Green Sun's Zenith as flexible access to Dryad Arbor, Arboreal Grazer, Aftermath Analyst, Primeval Titan, and Cultivator Colossus when the legal action and mana value line match the current need. X=0 for Dryad Arbor is an acceleration line, not a default; preserve Green Sun's Zenith when the hand already develops and later needs a real payoff. Do not name or choose targets not exposed by the engine.
-
Summoner's Pact: Use Summoner's Pact as an explosive tutor only when the chosen green creature materially advances the game and the visible mana path can pay the next upkeep trigger. Primeval Titan is the default payoff target, while Cultivator Colossus, Aftermath Analyst, Arboreal Grazer, or Dryad Arbor can be correct only when the board state makes that smaller role decisive. The common mistake is tutoring for power while ignoring Pact payment.
-
Primeval Titan: Treat Primeval Titan as the main deterministic payoff once six mana or tutor access is present. Its land choices should answer the current board: Hanweir Battlements for haste pressure, bounce lands for mana, Tolaria West or Boseiju, Who Endures lines when a land must later be returned to hand, Urza's Saga for artifact pressure, and copy or utility lands when the engine already has mana. Do not use a fixed land pair if life totals, blockers, graveyards, artifact access, or visible hate change the line.
-
Scapeshift: Treat Scapeshift as a commitment spell that trades existing lands for a configured land package. Cast it only when the visible land count, engine permanents, and available follow-up justify sacrificing current mana. With Amulet of Vigor or Spelunking, Scapeshift can convert tapped land entries into immediate action; without those engines, it may be a setup spell rather than a kill or stabilizer.
-
Spelunking: Use Spelunking as the resilient land-engine backup to Amulet of Vigor. It is strongest before bounce-land and multi-land turns because it smooths tapped lands and helps make extra land drops. Against graveyard hate or removal-heavy decks, Spelunking can be the safer engine; against fast pressure, do not spend turn three on Spelunking if a legal Primeval Titan, interaction, or stabilizing blocker line is clearly better.
-
Malevolent Rumble: Use Malevolent Rumble as selection and graveyard setup when the hand needs an engine permanent, payoff access, or resources for Aftermath Analyst, Echoing Deeps, or Shifting Woodland lines. Card text check required for exact selection range, graveyard placement, and token details. Do not cast it when the current hand already has a faster guaranteed payoff and spending mana delays Primeval Titan or Scapeshift.
-
Aftermath Analyst: Use Aftermath Analyst as a graveyard-land recovery and setup card only when its visible legal actions support the line. Card text check required for exact mill, activation cost, and land-return timing. It pairs with Malevolent Rumble, Scapeshift, Zuran Orb, Echoing Deeps, and utility lands if the graveyard contains meaningful lands; it is weaker as a generic body unless blocking matters.
-
Cultivator Colossus: Use Cultivator Colossus as a high-end payoff when the hand contains enough lands to convert the trigger into cards, mana, or lethal pressure. Card text check required for exact repeat conditions. Green Sun's Zenith and Summoner's Pact can access it when legal, but it should not replace Primeval Titan if the Titan land pair immediately wins, stabilizes, or finds needed interaction.
-
Zuran Orb: Use Zuran Orb as a life-buffer, emergency survival tool, and Urza's Saga artifact target. It is best against burn, racing, or lines where sacrificed lands can later matter through Aftermath Analyst or graveyard-copy effects. Do not sacrifice core engine lands casually; life gain that prevents no visible damage or loses a future Primeval Titan turn is usually a trap.
-
Urza's Saga: Use Urza's Saga as both a backup threat and a tutor for Amulet of Vigor or Zuran Orb. Construct tokens pressure control and stabilize creature races, while chapter III can assemble the missing artifact engine. Sequence bounce lands and Vesuva carefully around Saga chapters; returning or copying Urza's Saga can be strong only when the timing does not cost a required mana turn.
-
Gruul Turf and Simic Growth Chamber: Treat Gruul Turf and Simic Growth Chamber as the primary mana engine, not ordinary lands. With Amulet of Vigor they generate burst mana; with Spelunking they reduce tapped-land friction; with Primeval Titan they enable land-return lines for Tolaria West, Boseiju, Who Endures, or Otawara, Soaring City. The main mistake is bouncing the only active green source or a land needed to pay Summoner's Pact.
-
Crumbling Vestige: Use Crumbling Vestige as early color fixing and Amulet-enabled burst mana. Its entry trigger can matter for casting Green Sun's Zenith, Spelunking, Scapeshift, or Primeval Titan turns, while later it is mostly colorless. Preserve exact trigger ordering from the engine, especially when Amulet of Vigor and bounce lands create multiple mana windows.
-
Boseiju, Who Endures and Otawara, Soaring City: Use Boseiju, Who Endures and Otawara, Soaring City as lands first and interaction second. Channel lines are strongest when a visible permanent blocks the combo, threatens lethal, or answers Urza's Saga constructs or Primeval Titan profitably. Because channel requires the card in hand, Titan or bounce-land lines that return these lands can be interaction setup rather than immediate removal.
-
Tolaria West: Use Tolaria West as a transmute or utility-land setup card when the engine can afford a slower tutor line. Card text check required for exact transmute legality and targets in this runtime. It commonly supports Summoner's Pact, Zuran Orb, or land-toolbox access, but do not keep a hand relying on Tolaria West if the early green mana is missing.
-
Hanweir Battlements: Use Hanweir Battlements to convert Primeval Titan or Cultivator Colossus into immediate pressure when the visible mana can activate haste. It is a land-package payoff, not an early color source. Do not fetch it over mana or interaction if the creature cannot attack profitably or survive to matter.
-
The Mycosynth Gardens, Vesuva, Mirrorpool, Echoing Deeps, and Shifting Woodland: Use copy lands only when the current visible target and legal action text define what is being copied. The Mycosynth Gardens can amplify artifact-engine lines when copying Amulet of Vigor or Zuran Orb is legal; Vesuva can copy the best battlefield land; Mirrorpool can copy key spells or creatures only under exact cost and target rules; Echoing Deeps and Shifting Woodland require graveyard targets and card text checks before relying on them.
-
Dryad Arbor and Forest: Use Forest as the stable green baseline and Dryad Arbor as a tutorable land-creature accelerant. Dryad Arbor is vulnerable to creature removal and summoning-sickness constraints, so choose it with Green Sun's Zenith only when the acceleration is worth exposing a land. Preserve Forest count for green-heavy lines, especially Summoner's Pact payment, Green Sun's Zenith, Scapeshift, Spelunking, and Primeval Titan setup.
Card Hover Notes
Echoing Deeps
- Deck role: Main deck, 1 copy, singleton/flex utility land and graveyard-copy payoff.
- Role type: mana/fixing/ramp; recursion; role glue.
- Deck-specific job: Copies a land card in a graveyard when that graveyard contains a higher-impact target than a normal colorless land, especially Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, Urza's Saga, Boseiju, Who Endures, Otawara, Soaring City, Hanweir Battlements, Mirrorpool, or Bojuka Bog after sideboard.
- Timing: Use as a normal {C} source when mana stability matters now; choose the tapped copy line only when the copied land's ability, color production, or Saga-style pressure is worth losing immediate untapped mana.
- Inputs / outputs: Consumes the land drop and may enter tapped; outputs either {C} or a copied graveyard land with Cave added.
- Mode map: Normal land mode taps for {C}; copy-entry mode may enter tapped as a copy of any land card in a graveyard, except it is also a Cave.
- Partners / packages: Malevolent Rumble, Aftermath Analyst, Scapeshift, Zuran Orb, Six, and Icetill Explorer help put land cards into graveyards or make graveyard lands matter.
- Role peers: Closest role overlap is Vesuva for battlefield land copying and Shifting Woodland for graveyard permanent copying.
- Failure modes: Copying a weak land just because the option exists can strand a needed green source or produce a tapped land when Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, or Summoner's Pact payment needs mana now.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Stronger in grindy games with lands in either graveyard; weaker against Soul-Guide Lantern-style exile or when the opponent's graveyard has no useful land.
Otawara, Soaring City
- Deck role: Main deck, 1 copy, singleton utility land and blue tempo interaction.
- Role type: mana/fixing/ramp; interaction-removal; modal utility.
- Deck-specific job: Provides {U} for Tolaria West transmute and channels to return target artifact, creature, enchantment, or planeswalker to its owner's hand when a blocker, hate permanent, or lethal threat must be cleared.
- Timing: Play as a land when blue mana is needed; preserve in hand when channel can answer a visible card that stops Primeval Titan, Urza's Saga constructs, Scapeshift setup, or survival this turn cycle.
- Inputs / outputs: As a land, outputs {U}; channel consumes {3}{U} and discards Otawara, with the cost reduced by {1} for each legendary creature you control, usually none in this main deck.
- Mode map: Land mode is stable blue mana; Channel mode returns target artifact, creature, enchantment, or planeswalker to its owner's hand and is not permanent removal.
- Partners / packages: Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, Urza's Cave, Elvish Reclaimer, and Tolaria West can set up or find utility lands; Gruul Turf and Simic Growth Chamber can return Otawara to hand for channel.
- Role peers: Boseiju, Who Endures is the closest land interaction peer but destroys only target artifact, enchantment, or nonbasic land an opponent controls.
- Failure modes: Channeling Otawara on a low-value permanent can lose the only blue source for Tolaria West; returning a creature without winning soon may only buy one turn.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Best against single blockers, hate creatures, artifact or enchantment lock pieces, and planeswalkers that are about to take over.
Gruul Turf
- Deck role: Main deck, 4 copies, core bounce-land mana engine.
- Role type: mana/fixing/ramp; engine piece.
- Deck-specific job: Turns Amulet of Vigor and Spelunking into explosive mana by producing {R}{G}, while returning lands such as Crumbling Vestige, Tolaria West, Boseiju, Who Endures, Otawara, Soaring City, or Urza's Saga for reuse.
- Timing: Prioritize when Amulet of Vigor or Spelunking makes it tempo-positive; without either, play only when returning a land does not break the next Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, Green Sun's Zenith, or Summoner's Pact payment turn.
- Inputs / outputs: Enters tapped, returns a land you control to hand, then taps for {R}{G}; with Amulet of Vigor, the untap trigger can make mana before the return trigger resolves.
- Partners / packages: Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, Arboreal Grazer, Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, Crumbling Vestige, and Hanweir Battlements all reward its two-mana output.
- Role peers: Simic Growth Chamber is the closest peer, trading red for blue.
- Failure modes: Bouncing the only green source, the only Pact-payment source, or a unique utility land needed next turn can turn a powerful land into a self-Time Walk.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong in races and big-mana mirrors; risky against land destruction, Blood Moon-style effects, or fast pressure when it enters tapped without untap support.
Arboreal Grazer
- Deck role: Main deck, 4 copies, core early ramp creature and defensive body.
- Role type: mana/fixing/ramp; lifegain/stabilization; role glue.
- Deck-specific job: Converts a land-heavy hand into extra battlefield mana, especially by putting Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, Crumbling Vestige, Urza's Saga, Forest, or utility lands onto the battlefield tapped.
- Timing: Best on turn one or two when it places a meaningful land; cast later only if the 0/3 reach body blocks enough damage or protects a turn needed for Primeval Titan or Scapeshift.
- Inputs / outputs: Consumes {G} and a land card from hand; outputs a 0/3 reach blocker and one extra tapped land on the battlefield if you choose to put one in.
- Partners / packages: Green Sun's Zenith can find Arboreal Grazer with X=1; bounce lands, Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, and Crumbling Vestige make the extra land more explosive.
- Role peers: Dryad Arbor and Elvish Reclaimer overlap as early green creature land-development pieces, but Arboreal Grazer is the only main-deck reach blocker.
- Failure modes: Casting it with no land to place is usually low impact unless blocking matters immediately; attacking with it is almost never worth losing a blocker.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: High value against Ragavan-style, flyer-light aggro, and prowess pressure; lower value against creature-light control unless it accelerates a payoff.
Forest
- Deck role: Main deck, 3 copies, basic mana resource and stable green source.
- Role type: mana/fixing/ramp.
- Deck-specific job: Provides reliable {G} for Arboreal Grazer, Green Sun's Zenith, Malevolent Rumble, Aftermath Analyst, Spelunking, Scapeshift, Summoner's Pact upkeep, Primeval Titan, and Cultivator Colossus without entering tapped or requiring setup.
- Timing: Lead on Forest when the hand needs guaranteed early green; preserve at least one green-producing land when bounce-land returns or Zuran Orb sacrifices could jeopardize Pact payment.
- Inputs / outputs: Consumes the land drop; outputs {G} and satisfies Shifting Woodland's "unless you control a Forest" entry condition.
- Partners / packages: Dryad Arbor is also a Forest; Shifting Woodland, Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, Green Sun's Zenith, and Summoner's Pact all care about stable green sequencing.
- Role peers: Dryad Arbor is the closest green land peer but is a summoning-sick 1/1 creature and vulnerable to creature removal.
- Failure modes: Returning or sacrificing Forest too early can strand green spells or lose the ability to pay {2}{G}{G} for Summoner's Pact.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Most important against fast decks and mana disruption, where tapped utility lands cannot replace immediate green.
Scapeshift
- Deck role: Main deck, 3 copies, core spell payoff and land-conversion finisher.
- Role type: combo enabler; tutor/search; engine payoff.
- Deck-specific job: Sacrifices current lands to search for up to that many land cards, enabling decisive packages such as Amulet of Vigor plus Gruul Turf/Simic Growth Chamber mana, Urza's Saga pressure, Hanweir Battlements haste support, Zuran Orb survival, Boseiju, Who Endures interaction, or Mirrorpool setup.
- Timing: Cast only when the land count and visible search options create a stronger board than the lands being sacrificed; four mana with no payoff land package is often too early.
- Inputs / outputs: Consumes {2}{G}{G}, the spell card, and any number of sacrificed lands; outputs up to that many land cards from library onto the battlefield tapped.
- Partners / packages: Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, Primeval Titan, Aftermath Analyst, Echoing Deeps, Shifting Woodland, Zuran Orb, Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, Urza's Saga, and Hanweir Battlements are the main conversion partners.
- Role peers: Primeval Titan searches two lands repeatedly; Urza's Cave searches one land; Elvish Reclaimer searches one land after sideboard.
- Failure modes: Sacrificing stable mana for speculative land entries can lose Pact payment, green access, or the ability to cast the payoff found later.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong when the opponent cannot punish a sorcery-speed commitment; risky into counterspell posture or lethal combat if it does not stabilize immediately.
Tolaria West
- Deck role: Main deck, 1 copy, singleton blue utility land and zero-mana tutor.
- Role type: tutor/search; mana/fixing/ramp; modal utility.
- Deck-specific job: Enters as a blue source or transmutes for mana value 0 cards, most importantly Summoner's Pact, Zuran Orb, Engineered-style zero targets absent here, or land permanents because lands have mana value 0.
- Timing: Play when blue mana is needed now; transmute only at sorcery speed when the turn can afford {1}{U}{U} and the searched card solves a concrete bottleneck.
- Inputs / outputs: Land mode enters tapped and later outputs {U}; transmute consumes {1}{U}{U}, discards Tolaria West, searches for a card with mana value 0, reveals it, puts it into hand, then shuffles.
- Mode map: Land mode is slow blue mana; Transmute mode finds Summoner's Pact, Zuran Orb, Urza's Saga, Boseiju, Who Endures, Otawara, Soaring City, Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, Crumbling Vestige, The Mycosynth Gardens, Mirrorpool, Hanweir Battlements, Echoing Deeps, Shifting Woodland, Urza's Cave, Vesuva, Bojuka Bog after sideboard, or other registered lands.
- Partners / packages: Simic Growth Chamber and Gruul Turf can return Tolaria West to hand; Primeval Titan and Scapeshift can find it for later transmute.
- Role peers: Urza's Cave and Elvish Reclaimer are land tutors, but neither finds Summoner's Pact or Zuran Orb.
- Failure modes: Keeping a hand that relies on Tolaria West for early green is a trap; transmuting too slowly can miss the window for Titan or survival.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Best in slower games where finding Pact, Zuran Orb, Boseiju, Who Endures, Bojuka Bog, or Urza's Saga is worth a full sorcery-speed setup turn.
Urza's Cave
- Deck role: Main deck, 1 copy, singleton land-search utility card.
- Role type: tutor/search; mana/fixing/ramp.
- Deck-specific job: Provides {C} early and later converts into any land from the library, letting the deck find Hanweir Battlements, Urza's Saga, Boseiju, Who Endures, Otawara, Soaring City, Mirrorpool, The Mycosynth Gardens, Echoing Deeps, Shifting Woodland, Vesuva, Bojuka Bog after sideboard, or a bounce land.
- Timing: Use as a colorless land when development is tight; activate for {3}, tap, and sacrifice only when the selected land matters more than keeping Urza's Cave as a mana source.
- Inputs / outputs: Outputs {C}; activated ability consumes {3}, tapping Urza's Cave, and sacrificing Urza's Cave to put a land card from library onto the battlefield tapped.
- Partners / packages: Amulet of Vigor and Spelunking reduce the tapped-land penalty; Primeval Titan and Scapeshift overlap with its land-toolbox role.
- Role peers: Primeval Titan searches two lands, Scapeshift converts many lands, and Elvish Reclaimer repeatedly searches after sideboard.
- Failure modes: Activating into a tapped land without Amulet of Vigor or Spelunking can be too slow if the opponent threatens lethal or Pact payment is due.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong when a single land bullet wins the exchange, especially Boseiju, Who Endures, Otawara, Soaring City, Bojuka Bog, Hanweir Battlements, or Zuran Orb access via Urza's Saga.
Amulet of Vigor
- Deck role: Main deck, 4 copies, core engine artifact.
- Role type: engine piece; mechanic enabler.
- Deck-specific job: Untaps permanents you control that enter tapped, turning Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, Crumbling Vestige, Vesuva, Mirrorpool, Tolaria West, Urza's Saga, Echoing Deeps, Bojuka Bog, and Scapeshift land piles into immediate mana or action.
- Timing: Cast early when the hand has tapped lands to exploit; hold only if a visible discard, graveyard hate, or sequencing issue makes deploying it lose more value than it gains.
- Inputs / outputs: Consumes {1} and an artifact slot; outputs triggered untaps whenever your permanents enter tapped. Multiple copies create multiple untap triggers.
- Partners / packages: Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, Crumbling Vestige, Scapeshift, Primeval Titan, Urza's Saga, The Mycosynth Gardens, and Vesuva are its highest-impact partners.
- Role peers: Spelunking overlaps by making lands enter untapped, but Amulet also untaps nonland tapped permanents and stacks in multiples.
- Failure modes: Treating Amulet as just acceleration can miss trigger ordering; losing it to Collector Ouphe's symmetrical artifact-ability lock is not relevant to Amulet's triggered ability, but losing it to artifact removal can strand bounce-land turns.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Highest priority against decks racing on speed; vulnerable to Force of Vigor-style artifact destruction, Boseiju, Who Endures, and graveyard hate.
Dryad Arbor
- Deck role: Main deck, 1 copy, singleton land creature and Green Sun's Zenith target.
- Role type: mana/fixing/ramp; threat/clock; role glue.
- Deck-specific job: Gives Green Sun's Zenith an X=0 acceleration target while also counting as a Forest, a land, and a 1/1 creature for blocking, attacking, sacrifice pressure, and land count.
- Timing: Fetch with Green Sun's Zenith only when the extra green land-creature changes the next turn; avoid exposing it when creature removal would also destroy a needed land.
- Inputs / outputs: Does not use the stack as a land; has summoning sickness; later taps for {G}; can attack or block as a 1/1.
- Mode map: Land aspect supplies Forest-based {G}; creature aspect can block, attack, be removed by creature removal, and be affected by summoning sickness.
- Partners / packages: Green Sun's Zenith, Arboreal Grazer, Scapeshift, Aftermath Analyst, Shifting Woodland, Elvish Reclaimer, and Zuran Orb all care about its land or creature status.
- Role peers: Forest is safer green mana; Arboreal Grazer is a sturdier early creature; Elvish Reclaimer is a sideboard green creature with land-tutor utility.
- Failure modes: Calling it "free mana" ignores summoning sickness and removal vulnerability; sacrificing or trading it can break Summoner's Pact payment.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong when acceleration matters more than exposure; weak against Wrenn and Six-style pings, Orcish Bowmasters-style damage, and removal-heavy starts.
Simic Growth Chamber
- Deck role: Main deck, 3 copies, core bounce-land mana engine.
- Role type: mana/fixing/ramp; engine piece.
- Deck-specific job: Produces {G}{U}, supporting green payoff turns and blue utility lines with Tolaria West or Otawara, Soaring City while enabling land-return reuse.
- Timing: Best with Amulet of Vigor or Spelunking; without untap support, play it when returning a land preserves enough active mana for the next planned spell or Pact payment.
- Inputs / outputs: Enters tapped, returns a land you control to hand, and taps for {G}{U}; Amulet of Vigor can untap it before the return trigger resolves.
- Partners / packages: Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, Arboreal Grazer, Crumbling Vestige, Tolaria West, Otawara, Soaring City, Green Sun's Zenith, and Primeval Titan all exploit its colors and bounce trigger.
- Role peers: Gruul Turf is the red-green peer, better for Hanweir Battlements and red post-board named cards but worse for blue utility.
- Failure modes: Returning the only untapped green land or the only land that pays an immediate cost can turn Growth Chamber into a tempo loss.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Valuable against slower decks where blue transmute/channel options matter; risky against fast pressure and land hate when unsupported.
Zuran Orb
- Deck role: Main deck, 1 copy, singleton survival artifact and Urza's Saga target.
- Role type: lifegain/stabilization; engine fuel/material; post-board named bullet.
- Deck-specific job: Turns lands into 2 life each to survive burn, combat, or lethal stack pressure, and can put lands into the graveyard for Aftermath Analyst, Echoing Deeps, Shifting Woodland, Six, and Icetill Explorer.
- Timing: Search with Urza's Saga or Tolaria West when life is the bottleneck; sacrifice lands only when the life changes survival math or the sacrificed lands can be recovered profitably.
- Inputs / outputs: Costs {0}; activated ability sacrifices a land and gains 2 life. The life gain is immediate, but the land loss is real.
- Partners / packages: Urza's Saga, Tolaria West, Aftermath Analyst, Scapeshift, Echoing Deeps, Shifting Woodland, Six, Icetill Explorer, and Elvish Reclaimer all interact with land count or graveyard lands.
- Role peers: Arboreal Grazer and Firespout buy time differently; Soul-Guide Lantern and Vexing Bauble are alternate Saga targets for other matchups.
- Failure modes: Sacrificing Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, Forest, or Crumbling Vestige before Pact upkeep or Titan mana can gain life while losing the game.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Best against burn and creature races; poor against combo or control when life total is not pressured.
Green Sun's Zenith
- Deck role: Main deck, 4 copies, core creature tutor and velocity spell.
- Role type: tutor/search; mana/fixing/ramp; threat/clock.
- Deck-specific job: Searches for green creature cards with mana value X or less, putting the chosen creature directly onto the battlefield, then shuffling Green Sun's Zenith into its owner's library.
- Timing: Use X=0 for Dryad Arbor only when acceleration is needed; use X=1 for Arboreal Grazer when an extra land drop or blocker matters; save for Aftermath Analyst, Primeval Titan, Cultivator Colossus, Collector Ouphe, Six, Icetill Explorer, Elvish Reclaimer, or Insidious Fungus when those roles solve the board.
- Inputs / outputs: Consumes {X}{G}; outputs a green creature card with mana value X or less from library onto the battlefield and recycles itself into the library.
- Partners / packages: Dryad Arbor, Arboreal Grazer, Aftermath Analyst, Primeval Titan, Cultivator Colossus, Collector Ouphe, Six, Icetill Explorer, Elvish Reclaimer, and Insidious Fungus are registered green creature targets.
- Role peers: Summoner's Pact finds a green creature to hand at instant speed but creates a lethal upkeep debt.
- Failure modes: Spending Zenith early on Dryad Arbor when the hand already has mana can lose access to Primeval Titan later.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Against aggro, find Arboreal Grazer or Primeval Titan; against artifact engines, sideboard access to Collector Ouphe or Insidious Fungus can matter.
The Mycosynth Gardens
- Deck role: Main deck, 1 copy, singleton utility land and artifact-copy payoff.
- Role type: mana/fixing/ramp; engine piece; modal utility.
- Deck-specific job: Fixes one mana of any color for a cost, or becomes a copy of target nontoken artifact you control with mana value X, usually Amulet of Vigor, Zuran Orb, Vexing Bauble, or Soul-Guide Lantern.
- Timing: Use as colorless or fixing mana while developing; copy an artifact only when the copied artifact changes the turn, such as a second Amulet trigger, emergency Zuran Orb access, or a matchup hate artifact.
- Inputs / outputs: Taps for {C}; {1}, tap adds one mana of any color; {X}, tap turns it into a copy of target nontoken artifact you control with mana value X.
- Mode map: Colorless mana mode is efficient; fixing mode costs {1}; copy mode consumes X equal to the target artifact's mana value and changes Gardens into that artifact.
- Partners / packages: Amulet of Vigor, Zuran Orb, Urza's Saga, Vexing Bauble, Soul-Guide Lantern, and Scapeshift are the main cards that make Gardens more than a land.
- Role peers: Vesuva and Echoing Deeps copy lands; Mirrorpool copies spells or creatures, not artifacts.
- Failure modes: Copying Zuran Orb or Vexing Bauble can remove a needed mana source; copying Amulet late may be worse than holding mana for Primeval Titan.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Best in grindy or explosive Amulet turns; weaker when artifact removal is visible or land count is the bottleneck.
Crumbling Vestige
- Deck role: Main deck, 4 copies, core bridge land and exact-color enabler.
- Role type: mana/fixing/ramp; engine piece.
- Deck-specific job: Provides a one-shot mana of any color when it enters, then becomes a {C} source, making it crucial for early Green Sun's Zenith, Spelunking, Scapeshift, sideboard Dismember hard-pay lines, Firespout red/green choices, and Fire Magic.
- Timing: Sequence when the enter trigger's colored mana will be used immediately or stored through a same-step action; avoid wasting the trigger on a turn that needed a stable green source instead.
- Inputs / outputs: Enters tapped, adds one mana of any color on entry, then taps for {C}; Amulet of Vigor can untap it after entry.
- Partners / packages: Amulet of Vigor, Arboreal Grazer, Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, Spelunking, Firespout, Fire Magic, and Dismember all reward exact-color timing.
- Role peers: The Mycosynth Gardens fixes any color repeatedly but costs {1}; Forest gives stable green without one-shot timing.
- Failure modes: Treating the entry mana as permanent fixing leads to stranded colored spells later.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Very important post-board when red or black-cost decisions appear; vulnerable to sequencing errors under fast pressure.
Malevolent Rumble
- Deck role: Main deck, 2 copies, role-player selection spell and graveyard setup.
- Role type: card selection; engine fuel/material; mechanic enabler.
- Deck-specific job: Reveals the top four cards, may put a permanent card among them into hand, puts the rest into the graveyard, and creates an Eldrazi Spawn token that can be sacrificed for {C}.
- Timing: Cast when missing a permanent engine, payoff, land, or graveyard fuel; skip when spending {1}{G} delays a guaranteed Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, or needed interaction turn.
- Inputs / outputs: Consumes {1}{G}; outputs one chosen permanent card to hand if found, graveyard cards for Aftermath Analyst/Echoing Deeps/Shifting Woodland/Six/Icetill Explorer, and a 0/1 Eldrazi Spawn that sacrifices for {C}.
- Partners / packages: Permanent hits include Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, lands, Arboreal Grazer, Aftermath Analyst, Primeval Titan, Cultivator Colossus, Zuran Orb, Urza's Saga, and post-board named permanents such as Vexing Bauble, Collector Ouphe, Six, Bojuka Bog, Icetill Explorer, Elvish Reclaimer, Soul-Guide Lantern, and Insidious Fungus.
- Role peers: Green Sun's Zenith and Summoner's Pact find creatures more precisely; Malevolent Rumble finds any permanent but only from the top four.
- Failure modes: Milling Scapeshift, Summoner's Pact, Firespout, Dismember, Force of Vigor, or Fire Magic may cost access to those nonpermanent spells.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Better in grindy games; worse against fast decks when it does not immediately affect combat or mana.
Shifting Woodland
- Deck role: Main deck, 1 copy, singleton green land and delirium graveyard-copy payoff.
- Role type: mana/fixing/ramp; recursion; engine payoff.
- Deck-specific job: Enters untapped if you control a Forest, taps for {G}, and can become a copy of target permanent card in your graveyard until end of turn once delirium is active.
- Timing: Use as green mana early, especially with Forest or Dryad Arbor; activate delirium only when four or more card types are in your graveyard and the copied permanent produces immediate mana, pressure, interaction, or survival.
- Inputs / outputs: Consumes land drop and may enter tapped; outputs {G}; delirium ability consumes {2}{G}{G} and targets a permanent card in your graveyard.
- Mode map: Mana mode is green land development; delirium copy mode temporarily copies target permanent card in your graveyard until end of turn.
- Partners / packages: Malevolent Rumble, Aftermath Analyst, Scapeshift, Zuran Orb, Six, Cultivator Colossus, Amulet of Vigor, Urza's Saga, Primeval Titan, and Spelunking help stock or exploit the graveyard.
- Role peers: Echoing Deeps copies land cards in graveyards on entry; Vesuva copies battlefield lands; The Mycosynth Gardens copies artifacts you control.
- Failure modes: Activating without a high-impact target or without delirium is impossible or wasteful; copying a permanent for only one turn must matter now.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against removal-heavy decks that fill your graveyard; weak into graveyard exile or when Forest access is absent.
Aftermath Analyst
- Deck role: Main deck, 1 copy, singleton graveyard-land recovery creature.
- Role type: recursion; engine piece; engine fuel/material.
- Deck-specific job: Mills three on entry, then can sacrifice itself for {3}{G} to return all land cards from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.
- Timing: Cast when graveyard setup and a 1/3 body matter; activate when the graveyard contains enough lands to produce a decisive Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, Scapeshift, Zuran Orb, Echoing Deeps, or Shifting Woodland swing.
- Inputs / outputs: Consumes {1}{G}; outputs a 1/3 body, three milled cards, and later a {3}{G} sacrifice activation that returns graveyard land cards tapped.
- Partners / packages: Malevolent Rumble, Scapeshift, Zuran Orb, Echoing Deeps, Shifting Woodland, Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, Primeval Titan, and Cultivator Colossus all increase its payoff.
- Role peers: Six and Icetill Explorer provide sideboard graveyard-land value; Elvish Reclaimer puts lands into the graveyard as a cost while tutoring new ones.
- Failure modes: Trading it off before activation can lose the rebuild plan; activating for only one irrelevant land is rarely worth four mana unless survival or Pact payment requires it.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong in attrition and land-destruction games; risky against graveyard hate that can exile lands before activation.
Primeval Titan
- Deck role: Main deck, 3 copies, primary core payoff and win engine.
- Role type: threat/clock; tutor/search; engine payoff.
- Deck-specific job: On entering or attacking, searches for up to two land cards and puts them onto the battlefield tapped, converting one creature into haste, mana, interaction, Saga pressure, copy lines, or survival.
- Timing: Commit when six mana, Green Sun's Zenith, or Summoner's Pact can resolve it and the resulting land pair materially advances lethal, stabilization, or a locked-in next turn.
- Inputs / outputs: Consumes {4}{G}{G} or tutor resources; outputs a 6/6 trample body and repeated two-land searches.
- Partners / packages: Hanweir Battlements for haste, Gruul Turf and Simic Growth Chamber for mana, Urza's Saga for constructs or artifact search, Boseiju, Who Endures and Otawara, Soaring City for interaction, Mirrorpool and Vesuva for copying, Zuran Orb for survival, and Tolaria West for later Pact or land access.
- Role peers: Scapeshift searches many lands once; Cultivator Colossus is a high-end creature payoff without precise land tutoring.
- Failure modes: Fetching a fixed pair without checking blockers, life total, Pact payment, or hate permanents can waste the strongest trigger in the deck.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Against aggro, search stabilization or haste only when safe; against control, land-based pressure from Urza's Saga and utility lands taxes counters and removal.
Spelunking
- Deck role: Main deck, 4 copies, core enchantment land engine.
- Role type: engine piece; mana/fixing/ramp; card selection.
- Deck-specific job: Draws a card, may put a land from hand onto the battlefield, makes your lands enter untapped, and gains 4 life if the land put in by its entry trigger is a Cave such as Echoing Deeps or Urza's Cave.
- Timing: Best before bounce-land, Scapeshift, Primeval Titan, or multi-land turns; delay only when casting it would die before affecting a lethal board or miss a stronger payoff window.
- Inputs / outputs: Consumes {2}{G}; outputs one card drawn, optional extra land placement, untapped land entries, and conditional 4 life for putting a Cave onto the battlefield with its trigger.
- Partners / packages: Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, Crumbling Vestige, Urza's Saga, Scapeshift, Primeval Titan, Aftermath Analyst, Echoing Deeps, Urza's Cave, and Cultivator Colossus all benefit.
- Role peers: Amulet of Vigor is the artifact engine peer; it can stack in multiples, while Spelunking is harder for some decks to remove and replaces itself.
- Failure modes: Treating Spelunking as a generic turn-three play can be too slow if Dismember, Firespout, Zuran Orb, or Primeval Titan is needed immediately.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against graveyard hate and grindy decks; vulnerable to enchantment removal and too slow against some fast starts.
Hanweir Battlements
- Deck role: Main deck, 1 copy, singleton haste land and Titan-kill enabler.
- Role type: protection/evasion; reach/finisher; mana/fixing/ramp.
- Deck-specific job: Gives target creature haste for {R}, tap, most importantly Primeval Titan or Cultivator Colossus, so the deck can attack immediately and get another Titan trigger or lethal trample pressure.
- Timing: Search or play when a creature can attack profitably this turn; do not prioritize it over mana, Boseiju, Who Endures, Otawara, Soaring City, or Zuran Orb when haste does not change combat.
- Inputs / outputs: Taps for {C}; haste ability consumes {R} and tapping Hanweir Battlements; meld ability requires a creature named Hanweir Garrison, which is not registered in this deck.
- Mode map: Mana mode supplies {C}; haste mode targets a creature and gives haste until end of turn; meld mode is effectively unavailable because Hanweir Garrison is not in the registered decklist.
- Partners / packages: Primeval Titan, Cultivator Colossus, Gruul Turf, Crumbling Vestige, Scapeshift, Urza's Cave, and Elvish Reclaimer are key enablers.
- Role peers: No direct peer; closest role overlap is Primeval Titan plus Urza's Saga pressure as another way to create immediate threat.
- Failure modes: Fetching Battlements without red mana or without a profitable attacker wastes a land-search slot.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Best against decks where one immediate Titan attack wins or stabilizes; worse when blockers or removal make haste low value.
Cultivator Colossus
- Deck role: Main deck, 1 copy, singleton high-end creature payoff.
- Role type: threat/clock; engine payoff; card selection.
- Deck-specific job: Becomes a huge trampler equal to lands you control and can repeatedly put land cards from hand onto the battlefield tapped, drawing a card each time you do.
- Timing: Use when hand contains lands or the body stabilizes; prefer Primeval Titan when exact land tutoring is more important than raw size and draw-chain potential.
- Inputs / outputs: Consumes {4}{G}{G}{G} or tutor access; outputs a trample creature sized by land count and a land-draw repeat loop as long as you keep choosing to put lands from hand onto the battlefield tapped.
- Partners / packages: Summoner's Pact and Green Sun's Zenith can find it; Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, Crumbling Vestige, and Zuran Orb affect land-chain value.
- Role peers: Primeval Titan is the main payoff peer with precise land tutoring; Scapeshift is the spell payoff for large land counts.
- Failure modes: Casting it with an empty hand or no time to attack can make it just an expensive body; Pacting for it without payment mana can lose the game.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong in stalled boards and removal-light races; weaker into bounce, exile, or counterspell windows where Primeval Titan's immediate land trigger would be safer.
Mirrorpool
- Deck role: Main deck, 1 copy, singleton copy land and high-mana payoff.
- Role type: modal utility; engine payoff; mana/fixing/ramp.
- Deck-specific job: Provides {C}, copies your instant or sorcery spell, or creates a token copy of target creature you control when the deck has enough colorless mana and a payoff worth duplicating.
- Timing: Use as colorless mana until a copy line is decisive; activate spell-copy mode for Scapeshift, Summoner's Pact, Green Sun's Zenith, Force of Vigor, Dismember, Firespout, or Fire Magic only when the target spell and mana are legal and valuable; activate creature-copy mode for Primeval Titan or Cultivator Colossus when the token matters immediately.
- Inputs / outputs: Enters tapped; taps for {C}; spell-copy mode costs {2}{C}, tap, sacrifice; creature-copy mode costs {4}{C}, tap, sacrifice.
- Mode map: Mana mode supplies {C}; instant/sorcery copy mode copies target instant or sorcery spell you control and may retarget; creature token mode copies target creature you control.
- Partners / packages: Primeval Titan, Cultivator Colossus, Scapeshift, Green Sun's Zenith, Summoner's Pact, Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, and The Mycosynth Gardens all affect its ceiling.
- Role peers: The Mycosynth Gardens copies artifacts; Vesuva and Echoing Deeps copy lands.
- Failure modes: Requires actual {C}, not generic mana; sacrificing Mirrorpool for a marginal copy can lose a key land.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Best in long games and Titan turns with surplus mana; poor under fast pressure.
Summoner's Pact
- Deck role: Main deck, 2 copies, core explosive green creature tutor with upkeep debt.
- Role type: tutor/search; threat/clock; role glue.
- Deck-specific job: Searches for a green creature card, most often Primeval Titan, with Cultivator Colossus, Aftermath Analyst, Arboreal Grazer, Dryad Arbor, Collector Ouphe, Six, Icetill Explorer, Elvish Reclaimer, or Insidious Fungus as state-dependent alternatives.
- Timing: Cast only when the found creature wins, stabilizes, or the next upkeep can pay {2}{G}{G}; instant speed does not make it free.
- Inputs / outputs: Costs {0}; outputs a revealed green creature card to hand; creates a next-upkeep trigger requiring {2}{G}{G} or you lose the game.
- Partners / packages: Primeval Titan, Cultivator Colossus, Aftermath Analyst, Arboreal Grazer, Dryad Arbor, Collector Ouphe, Six, Icetill Explorer, Elvish Reclaimer, Insidious Fungus, Tolaria West, Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, Forest, and Crumbling Vestige all shape Pact decisions.
- Role peers: Green Sun's Zenith costs mana upfront and puts the creature onto the battlefield, but avoids the lose-the-game upkeep trigger.
- Failure modes: Pact for power without visible payment mana is the deck's cleanest self-loss.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong when racing or forcing a decisive Titan; risky against counterspells, land disruption, or pressure that makes payment impossible.
Urza's Saga
- Deck role: Main deck, 4 copies, core alternate threat and artifact tutor land permanent.
- Role type: threat/clock; tutor/search; engine payoff.
- Deck-specific job: Makes large Construct artifact creature tokens and chapter III searches for Amulet of Vigor or Zuran Orb in game one, with Vexing Bauble or Soul-Guide Lantern as sideboard artifact targets.
- Timing: Lead on Saga when construct pressure or artifact tutoring is better than immediate green; activate Construct only when spending {2} and tapping Saga does not block Titan, Scapeshift, or interaction.
- Inputs / outputs: Enchantment land that gains chapters after draw step; chapter I gives "{T}: Add {C}"; chapter II gives "{2}, {T}: Create a 0/0 Construct that gets +1/+1 for each artifact you control"; chapter III searches for an artifact card with mana cost {0} or {1}, puts it onto the battlefield, then Saga is sacrificed.
- Mode map: Chapter I is mana; chapter II is Construct production; chapter III is artifact tutoring for Amulet of Vigor, Zuran Orb, Vexing Bauble, or Soul-Guide Lantern.
- Partners / packages: Amulet of Vigor, Zuran Orb, The Mycosynth Gardens, Vexing Bauble, Soul-Guide Lantern, Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, and Vesuva all interact with Saga's timing.
- Role peers: Primeval Titan and Scapeshift tutor land permanents; Urza's Saga uniquely tutors cheap artifacts and creates artifact creatures.
- Failure modes: Missing chapter timing or bouncing Saga at the wrong time can lose the artifact search.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Excellent against control and midrange; vulnerable to land destruction, enchantment removal, and artifact sweeper effects.
Boseiju, Who Endures
- Deck role: Main deck, 3 copies, core green land and maindeck interaction.
- Role type: mana/fixing/ramp; interaction-removal; modal utility.
- Deck-specific job: Supplies {G} while threatening channel interaction that destroys target artifact, enchantment, or nonbasic land an opponent controls.
- Timing: Play as a land when green mana is the bottleneck; preserve in hand when an opposing hate artifact, enchantment, or nonbasic land can stop Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, Urza's Saga, Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, or Pact payment.
- Inputs / outputs: Land mode taps for {G}; Channel costs {1}{G}, discards Boseiju, destroys the target, then that player may search for a land card with a basic land type and put it onto the battlefield.
- Mode map: Land mode is stable green mana; Channel mode is instant-speed interaction for target artifact, enchantment, or nonbasic land an opponent controls.
- Partners / packages: Gruul Turf and Simic Growth Chamber can return Boseiju to hand; Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, Urza's Cave, and Elvish Reclaimer can find it.
- Role peers: Otawara, Soaring City handles artifact, creature, enchantment, or planeswalker by bouncing; Force of Vigor and Insidious Fungus handle artifacts/enchantments after sideboard.
- Failure modes: Channeling on a low-impact target may ramp the opponent while costing your green source.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Best against Blood Moon-style effects, opposing Urza's Saga, artifact combo, enchantment hate, and nonbasic utility lands.
Vesuva
- Deck role: Main deck, 1 copy, singleton battlefield land-copy utility.
- Role type: mana/fixing/ramp; engine payoff; role glue.
- Deck-specific job: Enters tapped as a copy of any land on the battlefield, often duplicating Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, Urza's Saga, Boseiju, Who Endures, Hanweir Battlements, Mirrorpool, or an opposing utility land.
- Timing: Copy the best land only when the tapped entry is worth it; with Amulet of Vigor or Spelunking, Vesuva can become immediate mana or Saga pressure.
- Inputs / outputs: Consumes the land drop; may enter tapped as a copy of any battlefield land.
- Mode map: Normal un-copied land has no listed mana ability in the reference; copy-entry mode is the strategic use and should copy a land with relevant abilities.
- Partners / packages: Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, Urza's Saga, and Hanweir Battlements are the main friendly copy targets.
- Role peers: Echoing Deeps copies land cards in graveyards; The Mycosynth Gardens copies artifacts; Mirrorpool copies spells or creatures.
- Failure modes: Playing Vesuva with no useful land to copy can produce a dead or low-impact land; copying an opponent's land without a plan may not fix your colors.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong in mirror-style land boards or when copying your own Saga/bounce land matters; weak against land hate and empty boards.
Firespout
- Deck role: Sideboard, 1 copy, creature-sweeper bullet.
- Role type: interaction-sweeper; post-board named bullet.
- Deck-specific job: Deals 3 damage to each creature without flying if red was spent, 3 damage to each creature with flying if green was spent, and does both if red and green were spent.
- Timing: Bring in when a three-damage sweeper buys the Titan turn or clears blockers for lethal; cast before combat when clearing non-flyers opens attacks, but count your Arboreal Grazer, Dryad Arbor, Aftermath Analyst, Elvish Reclaimer, Collector Ouphe, Insidious Fungus, and Construct tokens.
- Inputs / outputs: Consumes {2}{R/G}; output depends on colors spent, not chosen targets.
- Mode map: Red-spent effect damages each creature without flying; green-spent effect damages each creature with flying; spending both red and green applies both effects.
- Partners / packages: Crumbling Vestige, Gruul Turf, Forest, Simic Growth Chamber, The Mycosynth Gardens, and Boseiju, Who Endures help pay relevant colors.
- Role peers: Fire Magic is another sideboard sweeper with tiered damage; Dismember answers one creature at instant speed.
- Failure modes: Damage is not shrinking; creatures with toughness above 3 or prevention can survive, and your own non-flying creatures may die.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Best against go-wide creature boards; poor against single large threats or creature-light combo.
Vexing Bauble
- Deck role: Sideboard, 2 copies, graveyard hate piece and Saga-searchable bullet.
- Role type: hate piece; post-board named bullet; modal utility.
- Deck-specific job: Counters spells cast with no mana spent, pressuring cascade, pitch spells, zero-mana spells, and other free interaction that can stop Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, Amulet of Vigor, Green Sun's Zenith, or Summoner's Pact turns.
- Timing: Deploy before the opponent's free-spell window or before committing a payoff into free interaction; sacrifice to draw only when the hate text is no longer relevant or a new card is worth more.
- Inputs / outputs: Costs {1}; passive trigger counters no-mana-spent spells; activated ability costs {1}, tap, and sacrifice to draw a card.
- Mode map: Hate mode stays on battlefield and counters no-mana-spent spells; draw mode cashes it in for one card.
- Partners / packages: Urza's Saga can find Vexing Bauble; The Mycosynth Gardens can copy it; Collector Ouphe stops its activated draw ability.
- Role peers: Force of Vigor fights artifacts/enchantments directly; Boseiju, Who Endures answers resolved artifacts/enchantments/nonbasic lands.
- Failure modes: It can counter your own no-mana-spent Summoner's Pact if applicable, so sequence Pact and Bauble carefully.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Best against cascade, pitch-spell, and zero-mana combo decks; weak against fair creature decks paying mana normally.
Dismember
- Deck role: Sideboard, 2 copies, instant-speed creature removal.
- Role type: interaction-removal; post-board named bullet.
- Deck-specific job: Gives a mostly green land-combo deck a way to kill one creature by giving target creature -5/-5 until end of turn.
- Timing: Use on creatures that threaten lethal, shut off Titan attacks, enable creature combo, or represent hate that invalidates the engine; avoid spending life on low-impact targets in burn races.
- Inputs / outputs: Costs {1}{B/P}{B/P}; each {B/P} can be paid with black mana or 2 life, so the common line costs one generic mana plus 4 life. Output is -5/-5 to target creature until end of turn.
- Partners / packages: Crumbling Vestige, Bojuka Bog, The Mycosynth Gardens, and Zuran Orb affect life/mana cost decisions; Firespout and Fire Magic cover multiple creatures differently.
- Role peers: Otawara, Soaring City bounces a creature temporarily; Firespout and Fire Magic damage many creatures; Boseiju, Who Endures cannot target creatures.
- Failure modes: Paying 4 life against burn or lethal combat can be worse than taking the hit; -5/-5 may not kill a larger creature.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Best against creature combo, hate creatures, large blockers, and early pressure that outpaces Titan.
Collector Ouphe
- Deck role: Sideboard, 1 copy, green creature artifact-ability hate bullet.
- Role type: hate piece; post-board named bullet; tutor/search target.
- Deck-specific job: Stops activated abilities of artifacts, mainly opposing artifact engines, while remaining searchable by Green Sun's Zenith and Summoner's Pact.
- Timing: Bring in when opposing artifact activated abilities matter more than your own artifact activations; cast before the opponent can convert artifacts into mana, damage, cards, or combat.
- Inputs / outputs: Consumes {1}{G}; outputs a 2/2 body and a static lock on activated abilities of artifacts.
- Partners / packages: Green Sun's Zenith and Summoner's Pact can find it; Force of Vigor, Insidious Fungus, and Boseiju, Who Endures complement it against artifacts/enchantments.
- Role peers: Force of Vigor destroys up to two artifacts/enchantments; Insidious Fungus can destroy one artifact or enchantment; Vexing Bauble fights free spells, not activated abilities.
- Failure modes: It shuts off Zuran Orb, Vexing Bauble's draw, Soul-Guide Lantern's activated abilities, and artifact abilities copied by The Mycosynth Gardens.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Best against artifact mana, Hammer-style equipment plans, and artifact combo; weak when the opponent's artifacts are static or low impact.
Six
- Deck role: Sideboard, 1 copy, grindy green creature and graveyard-land value card.
- Role type: recursion; engine piece; tutor/search target.
- Deck-specific job: Attacks to mill three and may put a land card milled this way into hand, while giving nonland permanent cards in your graveyard retrace during your turn.
- Timing: Bring in for attrition where repeated land drops and graveyard permanents matter; attack only when the 2/4 reach body survives or the mill trigger is worth combat exposure.
- Inputs / outputs: Consumes {2}{G}; outputs a 2/4 reach creature, attack-trigger mill three plus possible land to hand, and retrace for nonland permanent cards in your graveyard during your turn by discarding a land in addition to paying costs.
- Partners / packages: Malevolent Rumble, Aftermath Analyst, Shifting Woodland, Echoing Deeps, Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, Urza's Saga, Zuran Orb, and Icetill Explorer all value lands or graveyards.
- Role peers: Aftermath Analyst returns all graveyard lands; Icetill Explorer plays lands from graveyard; Elvish Reclaimer tutors lands directly.
- Failure modes: Discarding needed lands to retrace can weaken Cultivator Colossus, Scapeshift, and Pact payment plans.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against removal-heavy midrange/control; weak against fast combo and graveyard hate.
Bojuka Bog
- Deck role: Sideboard, 1 copy, graveyard-hate land bullet.
- Role type: hate piece; post-board named bullet; utility land.
- Deck-specific job: Exiles target player's graveyard when it enters, while also tapping for {B}; the black mana is secondary and usually less important than the graveyard exile.
- Timing: Deploy or tutor before the opponent uses graveyard resources; do not wait until after delve, escape, flashback, or reanimation costs have already been paid if the goal is to stop that spell.
- Inputs / outputs: Enters tapped, targets a player, exiles that player's graveyard, then later taps for {B}.
- Partners / packages: Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, Urza's Cave, Elvish Reclaimer, Tolaria West, Vesuva, and Echoing Deeps can access or reuse land-hate lines.
- Role peers: Soul-Guide Lantern exiles a target card on entry and can later exile each opponent's graveyard; Insidious Fungus is artifact/enchantment/card draw utility, not graveyard exile.
- Failure modes: Playing it early into an empty graveyard wastes the hate trigger and may slow green development.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Best against reanimation, dredge-like recursion, delve threats, escape cards, and graveyard combo.
Icetill Explorer
- Deck role: Sideboard, 1 copy, green creature land-grind bullet.
- Role type: engine piece; recursion; tutor/search target.
- Deck-specific job: Lets you play an additional land each turn, lets you play lands from your graveyard, and mills a card whenever a land you control enters.
- Timing: Bring in when games revolve around land volume and graveyard access rather than pure speed; cast when you can immediately use an extra land or graveyard land to recover.
- Inputs / outputs: Consumes {2}{G}{G}; outputs a 2/4 body, one extra land play each turn, permission to play lands from graveyard, and landfall self-mill.
- Partners / packages: Aftermath Analyst, Malevolent Rumble, Zuran Orb, Scapeshift, Echoing Deeps, Shifting Woodland, Six, Elvish Reclaimer, and Primeval Titan all increase graveyard-land value.
- Role peers: Six grinds through attacks and retrace; Aftermath Analyst returns graveyard lands in one burst; Elvish Reclaimer tutors lands by sacrificing lands.
- Failure modes: Four mana for a 2/4 is too slow if the opponent is about to combo or attack for lethal; self-mill can expose key cards to graveyard hate.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Best against midrange/control and land attrition; poor against fast aggro unless the 2/4 body plus extra lands stabilizes.
Force of Vigor
- Deck role: Sideboard, 2 copies, instant artifact/enchantment removal.
- Role type: interaction-removal; post-board named bullet; tempo utility.
- Deck-specific job: Destroys up to two target artifacts and/or enchantments, including hate pieces that stop Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, Urza's Saga, Green Sun's Zenith, Primeval Titan, or land searching.
- Timing: Pitch-cast on the opponent's turn when the target must die now; hard-cast when preserving a green card is more important and mana is available.
- Inputs / outputs: Normal cost is {2}{G}{G}; alternate cost on an opponent's turn exiles a green card from your hand rather than paying mana; output destroys up to two target artifacts and/or enchantments.
- Mode map: Hard-cast mode spends mana and preserves cards; alternate-cost mode spends a green card from hand and only works if it is not your turn.
- Partners / packages: Green cards that might be exiled include Arboreal Grazer, Green Sun's Zenith, Malevolent Rumble, Aftermath Analyst, Primeval Titan, Spelunking, Cultivator Colossus, Summoner's Pact targets, Collector Ouphe, Six, Icetill Explorer, Elvish Reclaimer, and Insidious Fungus.
- Role peers: Boseiju, Who Endures answers one target artifact, enchantment, or nonbasic land; Insidious Fungus answers one artifact or enchantment more slowly.
- Failure modes: Pitching the only payoff or green card can answer hate while losing the win condition.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Best against artifact/enchantment combo, prison, Leyline-style hate, and opposing Saga artifacts.
Elvish Reclaimer
- Deck role: Sideboard, 1 copy, green creature land-tutor bullet.
- Role type: tutor/search; mana/fixing/ramp; post-board named bullet.
- Deck-specific job: Becomes a 3/4 once three or more land cards are in your graveyard and can sacrifice a land to search any land onto the battlefield tapped.
- Timing: Bring in when repeated land bullets matter; activate when Bojuka Bog, Boseiju, Who Endures, Otawara, Soaring City, Hanweir Battlements, Urza's Saga, Mirrorpool, Vesuva, or a bounce land solves the board.
- Inputs / outputs: Costs {G}; activation costs {2}, tapping Elvish Reclaimer, and sacrificing a land; outputs a land from library onto battlefield tapped.
- Partners / packages: Zuran Orb, Scapeshift, Malevolent Rumble, Aftermath Analyst, Bojuka Bog, Urza's Saga, Boseiju, Who Endures, Otawara, Soaring City, and Hanweir Battlements are key.
- Role peers: Urza's Cave searches once from a land slot; Primeval Titan searches two lands per trigger; Scapeshift searches many lands at once.
- Failure modes: Sacrificing the wrong land can break Pact payment or Titan mana; summoning sickness delays the activation.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Strong against graveyard decks, land-toolbox mirrors, and attrition; too slow against decks where only turn-three Titan speed matters.
Soul-Guide Lantern
- Deck role: Sideboard, 1 copy, Saga-searchable graveyard hate artifact.
- Role type: hate piece; post-board named bullet; modal utility.
- Deck-specific job: Exiles one target card from a graveyard on entry, can sacrifice to exile each opponent's graveyard, or can sacrifice with {1} to draw a card.
- Timing: Search with Urza's Saga when graveyard interaction matters now; use the one-card entry exile on the most important current graveyard card, then hold the full exile for the opponent's commitment window.
- Inputs / outputs: Costs {1}; entry trigger exiles target card from a graveyard; tap-sacrifice exiles each opponent's graveyard; {1}, tap, sacrifice draws a card.
- Mode map: Entry hate removes one target card; graveyard sweep mode exiles each opponent's graveyard; draw mode cashes Lantern in when hate is no longer needed.
- Partners / packages: Urza's Saga and The Mycosynth Gardens can find or copy it; Collector Ouphe prevents its activated abilities.
- Role peers: Bojuka Bog exiles target player's graveyard from a land slot; Vexing Bauble is the alternate Saga-searchable hate artifact for free spells.
- Failure modes: Exiling after escape, delve, or flashback costs are already paid usually does not stop that spell.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Best against graveyard combo, reanimation, delve, escape, and recursive threats; weak when the opponent's graveyard is empty.
Insidious Fungus
- Deck role: Sideboard, 1 copy, green creature flexible artifact/enchantment answer and value bullet.
- Role type: modal utility; interaction-removal; tutor/search target.
- Deck-specific job: Provides a Green Sun's Zenith or Summoner's Pact target that can later sacrifice to destroy target artifact, destroy target enchantment, or draw a card and maybe put a land from hand onto the battlefield tapped.
- Timing: Bring in when artifact/enchantment targets are expected or when a tutorable flexible body matters; activate only when the chosen mode solves the current board or converts spare mana into land development.
- Inputs / outputs: Costs {G}; activated ability costs {2} and sacrificing Insidious Fungus; outputs one chosen effect.
- Mode map: Destroy target artifact; destroy target enchantment; or draw a card, then you may put a land card from your hand onto the battlefield tapped.
- Partners / packages: Green Sun's Zenith, Summoner's Pact, Force of Vigor, Boseiju, Who Endures, Spelunking, Amulet of Vigor, and Urza's Saga shape its role.
- Role peers: Force of Vigor is faster and can hit two artifacts/enchantments; Collector Ouphe stops artifact activations; Boseiju, Who Endures hits artifact, enchantment, or nonbasic land.
- Failure modes: It is sorcery-speed to deploy and requires another {2} plus sacrifice to act, so it may be too slow against immediate combo.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Best against artifact/enchantment hate and grindy matchups where a tutorable answer matters.
Fire Magic
- Deck role: Sideboard, 1 copy, red instant tiered creature sweeper.
- Role type: interaction-sweeper; post-board named bullet; modal utility.
- Deck-specific job: Gives the deck instant-speed scalable damage to each creature, with damage based on the chosen Tiered additional cost.
- Timing: Use before damage, after the opponent commits a wide board, or before your attack if killing low-toughness creatures opens Titan or Construct combat; count your Arboreal Grazer, Dryad Arbor, Aftermath Analyst, Elvish Reclaimer, Collector Ouphe, Insidious Fungus, Six, Icetill Explorer, and Construct tokens before firing.
- Inputs / outputs: Base cost is {R}; Tiered requires choosing one additional cost: Fire {0}, Fira {2}, or Firaga {5}; output is 1, 2, or 3 damage to each creature.
- Mode map: Fire costs {R} total and deals 1 to each creature; Fira costs {2}{R} total and deals 2 to each creature; Firaga costs {5}{R} total and deals 3 to each creature.
- Partners / packages: Gruul Turf, Crumbling Vestige, The Mycosynth Gardens, and Hanweir Battlements support red mana; Firespout and Dismember cover different creature-removal shapes.
- Role peers: Firespout is a sorcery with flying/non-flying coverage based on colors spent; Dismember kills one target creature with -5/-5.
- Failure modes: Damage can kill your own creatures and does not reduce toughness; choosing too small a tier may leave key creatures alive.
- Matchup / visibility hooks: Best against small creature swarms, mana creatures, and low-toughness pressure; weak against large threats and creature-light combo.
Interaction Priorities
-
Priority: Use Boseiju, Who Endures and Otawara, Soaring City first on visible permanents that stop the land engine, invalidate Primeval Titan, or create lethal pressure before the next Titan turn. Remove lock pieces, graveyard hate, graveyard hate, Blood Moon-style land denial, large opposing Urza's Saga tokens, or a single blocker only when the engine can convert the cleared board into Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, Cultivator Colossus, or lethal combat.
-
Priority: Spend Dismember on creatures that kill before the engine turn, shut off attacks, or stop Primeval Titan from connecting. Do not spend Dismember on low-toughness creatures when Arboreal Grazer, Dryad Arbor, Urza's Saga constructs, or Zuran Orb can buy the same turn without losing a real answer.
-
Priority: Use Force of Vigor against artifact or enchantment hate that directly prevents Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, Urza's Saga, Green Sun's Zenith, Summoner's Pact, or Primeval Titan lines. Avoid firing Force of Vigor at low-impact permanents if the visible board does not force action this turn, because pitching a green card can cost the actual payoff.
-
Priority: Use Firespout only when the visible creature board is meaningfully faster than the Titan plan or when clearing blockers opens a lethal attack. Card text check required for exact damage modes and flying coverage; do not assume it kills every creature unless the rules engine confirms the legal mode and affected objects.
-
Priority: Use Vexing Bauble and Collector Ouphe as hate pieces only when their visible text and matchup role interfere with the opponent more than with Amulet Titan. Card text check required for Vexing Bauble and Collector Ouphe interactions; do not deploy them blindly into a board where they turn off your own Amulet of Vigor, The Mycosynth Gardens artifact-copy line, Zuran Orb, or Urza's Saga artifact plan without gaining time.
-
Priority: Use Bojuka Bog, Soul-Guide Lantern, Insidious Fungus, and Six for graveyard or recursion pressure only when the opponent's visible graveyard, current stack, or known archetype makes the graveyard relevant. Card text check required for Insidious Fungus, Six, and Soul-Guide Lantern details; do not dilute the main Primeval Titan plan for graveyard hate against opponents showing no graveyard payoff.
-
Bait: Lead with Spelunking, Malevolent Rumble, Urza's Saga, or a nonlethal Green Sun's Zenith when the hand contains redundant payoff and the opponent visibly represents counterplay. Preserve Primeval Titan, Summoner's Pact, or Scapeshift for the window after the opponent spends interaction, unless waiting lets the opponent present lethal or a lock.
-
Ignore: Ignore ordinary one-for-one removal if the current line wins through Primeval Titan triggers, Scapeshift land entry, or Cultivator Colossus resolution. Protect engine permanents and mana more than creatures; losing Arboreal Grazer or Dryad Arbor matters only when it removes the land drop, blocker, or green source needed for the next legal action.
-
Archetype shift: Against aggro and burn, interaction protects life total and buys exactly one payoff turn; Zuran Orb becomes a real stabilizer and Firespout or Dismember should trade early. Against control, interaction mostly clears hate and taxes counters; use Boseiju, Who Endures, Otawara, Soaring City, Cavern-like effects only if present in legal actions, and bait with redundant engines. Against combo, prioritize speed and specific hate from Vexing Bauble, Force of Vigor, Collector Ouphe, Bojuka Bog, or Soul-Guide Lantern only when their visible text maps to the opponent's engine.
Combat And Trading Rules
-
Attack: Attack with Primeval Titan whenever the attack trigger, damage, or haste line advances a win or stabilizes the game better than holding it back. If Hanweir Battlements can give haste and the rules engine presents a legal attack, prioritize land pairs that create immediate lethal, Zuran Orb survival, utility interaction, or another Titan trigger before choosing defensive lands.
-
Attack: Use Urza's Saga constructs as the primary fair-combat plan when the opponent is interacting with spells or artifacts but not answering tokens. Attack with constructs when pressure shortens the clock without exposing lethal on the backswing; hold them back when blocking preserves the turn needed for Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, or Cultivator Colossus.
-
Block: Block early with Arboreal Grazer when it prevents meaningful damage and the extra land drop has already been used. Preserve Arboreal Grazer only if it is the only blocker against a larger future attack, carries a critical board role from visible effects, or the opponent's attack is low-impact relative to the combo clock.
-
Block: Treat Dryad Arbor as a land first and a creature second. Do not trade Dryad Arbor if losing a green source, land count, or Summoner's Pact payment makes the next turn unsafe; do trade it when the rules engine shows the damage matters more than the mana.
-
Trade: Trade Aftermath Analyst only when blocking buys the turn needed for a payoff or when its visible activated or triggered role is unavailable. Card text check required for exact Aftermath Analyst recursion timing; preserve it when the graveyard contains lands and the engine can legally exploit them.
-
Trade: Do not trade Primeval Titan casually, even against large creatures. Primeval Titan is usually worth more as a repeated attack trigger than as a blocker, but block with it when survival requires it or when the first trigger already assembled enough lands that keeping life total is the only remaining constraint.
-
Protection: Preserve Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, and Crumbling Vestige sequencing over small combat gains. A block or attack that forces a bad bounce-land return, loses a Pact-payment source, or taps mana needed for Dismember, Boseiju, Who Endures, Otawara, Soaring City, or Zuran Orb is suspect unless it prevents lethal.
-
Life thresholds: At high life, prefer engine speed over defensive trades because Primeval Titan and Scapeshift can reverse board position quickly. At low life or against burn, count visible attackers, open mana, known damage sources, and Zuran Orb life gain before attacking; survival through the opponent's next combat step is more important than marginal construct damage.
-
Archetype shift: Against creature aggro, block to preserve the payoff turn and use Firespout, Dismember, or Zuran Orb to bridge. Against control, attack with constructs and hasty Primeval Titan to force answers while keeping redundant payoff. Against combo, ignore most combat unless the opponent's clock is creature-based; racing with Primeval Titan land triggers is usually stronger than trading resources.
Selection And Tutor Rules
-
Tutor: Use Green Sun's Zenith as a role-specific creature tutor, not as generic deck thinning. Find Dryad Arbor when the opening line needs an immediate green creature-land, an extra mana body, or a sacrifice/blocking body; find Arboreal Grazer when the hand has a bounce land or extra land drop that must enter now; find Aftermath Analyst only when visible graveyard lands and mana make its recursion text relevant; find Primeval Titan or Cultivator Colossus only when the rules engine presents a legal high-mana Zenith line and that creature advances the current kill or stabilization plan.
-
Tutor: Use Summoner's Pact as a commitment card because its delayed payment can lose the game. Cast it for Primeval Titan when the current or next turn can pay the upkeep cost, attack with haste, or win before payment matters; cast it for Cultivator Colossus only when hand lands and visible mana make the draw-and-land chain materially stronger than Primeval Titan; avoid Pact if Dryad Arbor, Crumbling Vestige, Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, Forest, or other visible green sources cannot cover the next upkeep.
-
Land tutor: Use Primeval Titan triggers to fetch the land pair that solves the immediate board first. Prioritize Hanweir Battlements plus enough mana for haste when an attack trigger or lethal clock is available, Urza's Saga plus engine mana when the game is fair or grindy, Boseiju, Who Endures or Otawara, Soaring City when a visible permanent or stack-adjacent problem must be answered, Mirrorpool only when copying a spell or creature is actually legal and useful, and Zuran Orb support only when survival is the binding constraint.
-
Land tutor: Use Scapeshift as a major commitment gate, not a routine ramp spell. Resolve it only when sacrificing the visible lands produces a decisive land-entry chain, lethal or near-lethal Primeval Titan support, enough Urza's Saga pressure, or a defensive reset with Zuran Orb; do not trade stable mana for speculative value when the hand still needs Pact payment, green sources, or land drops.
-
Saga selection: Use Urza's Saga chapter search to get Amulet of Vigor when the engine is missing and untap triggers matter more than a body. Get Zuran Orb when life total, burn pressure, or sacrificing lands for survival is the current bottleneck; after sideboarding, get Vexing Bauble or Soul-Guide Lantern only when its visible text is relevant and the rules engine confirms it is a legal target.
-
Filtering: Treat Malevolent Rumble as conditional selection until card text is verified. use it only when the legal action text shows what cards or zones it can inspect and when missing a land, Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, or Summoner's Pact is the main problem.
-
Land-drop timing: Delay optional land drops when bounce-land sequencing, Amulet of Vigor triggers, Spelunking extra-land permissions, or Crumbling Vestige color triggers depend on choosing the correct order. Lead with tapped or bounce lands when Amulet of Vigor or Spelunking makes them functionally explosive; lead with Forest or Dryad Arbor when the turn requires guaranteed green mana before exposing a bounce trigger.
Priority And Stack Rules
-
Priority: Pass through empty-stack windows when no legal action improves mana, protects the engine, answers a visible threat, or advances a same-turn Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, Cultivator Colossus, or Urza's Saga line. Do not spend Boseiju, Who Endures, Otawara, Soaring City, Dismember, Force of Vigor, or Zuran Orb just because priority is available.
-
Response: Use Boseiju, Who Endures or Otawara, Soaring City at instant speed only against a visible permanent, spell, or combat state that blocks the main plan, threatens lethal, or invalidates a committed payoff. Preserve these lands when they are needed as mana sources, Pact payment support, land-count fuel, or Primeval Titan tutor targets.
-
Response: Use Zuran Orb at instant speed when sacrificing lands prevents lethal damage, blanks removal that would otherwise waste lands, enables an immediate land-recursion line, or converts lands that are about to be lost. Do not sacrifice lands if the next turn requires exact mana for Summoner's Pact, Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, Green Sun's Zenith, or activated utility lands.
-
Trigger ordering: Choose Amulet of Vigor, bounce-land, Spelunking, Crumbling Vestige, and Primeval Titan trigger orders from the visible engine result, not habit. Prioritize untapping lands before mana is needed, selecting bounce returns that preserve green sources and unique utility lands, and resolving tutor/search triggers before spending mana on optional follow-up actions.
-
Optional payments: Decline optional costs or activations when they consume mana needed for Summoner's Pact payment, Primeval Titan haste, transmute lines from Tolaria West, Boseiju, Who Endures, Otawara, Soaring City, or Urza's Saga activation. Pay optional costs only when the rules engine shows the cost and the resulting action directly supports the chosen line.
-
Stack commitment: Let opposing low-impact spells resolve when the current hand can win through them or when answering them would delay the Titan engine. Respond only to effects that visibly remove Amulet of Vigor, stop land entries or searches, counter a committed payoff, present lethal, or shut off activated abilities needed this turn.
-
Graveyard timing: Use Aftermath Analyst, Shifting Woodland, Echoing Deeps, and any graveyard-adjacent post-board named cards only when the visible graveyard and legal action text confirm the target or copied object. Card text check required for Shifting Woodland and Echoing Deeps; avoid graveyard commitments when exile effects or missing mana make the line speculative.
-
Combat windows: Take priority before attackers, after blockers, and before damage when a legal Zuran Orb, Dismember, Boseiju, Who Endures, Otawara, Soaring City, or haste line changes survival or lethal math. Pass combat priority when no visible action changes damage, preserves a payoff, or creates a Titan trigger this turn.
Sideboard Map
-
Role rule: Sideboard plans must preserve the Amulet of Vigor plus bounce-land engine unless the matchup specifically punishes artifacts or activated abilities. Keep enough green sources, land count, and payoff density for Green Sun's Zenith, Summoner's Pact, Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, and Cultivator Colossus lines after boarding.
-
Anti-artifact or anti-enchantment package: Add role cards: Force of Vigor, Insidious Fungus, Boseiju, Who Endures access through land tutors, and Vexing Bauble when opposing free interaction or cascade-style turns matter. Reduce main-deck emphasis: slower copies of Scapeshift, speculative Malevolent Rumble, or redundant Spelunking when the opponent pressures the engine with hate rather than life total.
-
Creature-pressure package: Add role cards: Dismember, Firespout, Elvish Reclaimer, Bojuka Bog when graveyard creatures matter, and Icetill Explorer only after card text check required confirms its defensive or stabilizing role. Reduce main-deck emphasis: slower land-combo commitments that do not affect the battlefield before the opponent’s next attack.
-
Graveyard package: Add role cards: Bojuka Bog, Soul-Guide Lantern, Insidious Fungus, Six when recursive land or graveyard value is relevant, and Elvish Reclaimer if repeatable land access is stronger than raw speed. Reduce main-deck emphasis: Zuran Orb or slower Scapeshift lines only when life total is not under immediate pressure and graveyard interaction is the binding constraint.
-
Combo or spell-stack package: Add role cards: Vexing Bauble, Force of Vigor, and Dismember only if the combo uses creatures that must be killed. Reduce main-deck emphasis: Firespout against creature-light combo, Collector Ouphe when the opponent does not rely on artifact activated abilities, and grindy land recursion when speed is more important than attrition.
Fast creature decks with small battlefield pressure Side in: 2 Dismember, 1 Firespout, 1 Elvish Reclaimer Cut: 1 Malevolent Rumble, 1 Scapeshift, 1 Spelunking, 1 The Mycosynth Gardens
Artifact-engine decks Side in: 2 Force of Vigor, 1 Collector Ouphe, 1 Insidious Fungus Cut: 1 Malevolent Rumble, 1 Scapeshift, 1 Zuran Orb, 1 Cultivator Colossus
Graveyard-centric decks Side in: 1 Bojuka Bog, 1 Soul-Guide Lantern, 1 Insidious Fungus, 1 Elvish Reclaimer Cut: 1 Malevolent Rumble, 1 Zuran Orb, 1 Scapeshift, 1 Spelunking
Free-spell or cascade-style combo decks Side in: 2 Vexing Bauble, 2 Force of Vigor Cut: 1 Zuran Orb, 1 Malevolent Rumble, 1 Scapeshift, 1 Spelunking
-
Firespout: Bring Firespout against wide creature boards where a three-damage sweeper is likely to change survival or buy a Titan turn. Card text depends on mana spent, so choose red, green, or both colors only when the rules engine shows the legal effect and visible creatures make that mode beneficial; it is bad against large creatures, creature-light combo, and boards where Arboreal Grazer, Dryad Arbor, or required utility creatures die without gaining time.
-
Vexing Bauble: Bring Vexing Bauble against free-spell decks, cascade-style decks, pitch-spell interaction, and zero-mana interaction that can stop Primeval Titan, Green Sun's Zenith, Scapeshift, Summoner's Pact, or Amulet of Vigor turns. It is weak against fair creature decks that pay mana for their spells and can be searched by Urza's Saga only when the rules engine confirms the object is legal.
-
Dismember: Bring Dismember against creature combo, hate creatures, early pressure, and single blockers that prevent a Primeval Titan attack from stabilizing. Preserve life total as a real cost against burn or fast attacks; use Dismember only when killing the visible creature matters more than keeping mana and life for the next Primeval Titan, Summoner's Pact payment, or Zuran Orb line.
-
Collector Ouphe: Bring Collector Ouphe against opposing artifact engines where shutting activated abilities is worth constraining both players. It can interfere with Amulet-adjacent artifact utility and Urza's Saga artifact targets, so deploy it only when the opponent’s visible or expected artifact ability package is more important than your own Zuran Orb, Vexing Bauble, Soul-Guide Lantern, or artifact-search plan.
-
Six: Bring Six in grindy matchups where land recursion, graveyard texture, or repeated land drops matter more than maximum speed. Card text check required for exact runtime actions; use it conditionally when legal action text shows that visible graveyard lands, discard, or retrace-style play advances mana, Urza's Saga, Boseiju, Who Endures, Otawara, Soaring City, or Scapeshift setup.
-
Bojuka Bog: Bring Bojuka Bog against graveyard combo, recursive threats, delve-style pressure, and decks where a single land tutor can answer a public graveyard. It is best when Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, Elvish Reclaimer, Tolaria West, or another legal land-selection action can access it without costing the turn; it is bad when a tapped black land slows the opening engine and the opponent’s graveyard is irrelevant.
-
Icetill Explorer: Bring Icetill Explorer only after card text check required identifies the matchup role from legal action text. Treat it as conditional sideboard technology rather than a default card; it is bad whenever its visible legal actions do not answer pressure, improve mana, protect the engine, or create a meaningful land-value line.
-
Force of Vigor: Bring Force of Vigor against graveyard hate, enchantment hate, prison permanents, and artifact/enchantment combo pieces that block Amulet of Vigor or Primeval Titan turns. Pitch-cast it only when the green card spent is less important than answering the visible permanent now; hard-cast it when mana allows and preserving Green Sun's Zenith, Summoner's Pact, Primeval Titan, or Spelunking is more important.
-
Elvish Reclaimer: Bring Elvish Reclaimer when repeated land tutoring for Bojuka Bog, Boseiju, Who Endures, Otawara, Soaring City, Hanweir Battlements, Urza's Saga, Mirrorpool, or Vesuva is likely to matter. It is slower than the clean Amulet of Vigor draw, so avoid overvaluing it against decks where turn-three Primeval Titan speed is the only realistic plan.
-
Soul-Guide Lantern: Bring Soul-Guide Lantern against graveyard decks when one-shot graveyard control or cycling from a low-cost artifact matters. Search it with Urza's Saga when graveyard interaction is immediately relevant; avoid it when the opponent’s graveyard is empty, when Collector Ouphe is shutting artifact abilities, or when Urza's Saga should find Amulet of Vigor or Zuran Orb instead.
-
Insidious Fungus: Bring Insidious Fungus when its visible legal text answers artifact, enchantment, or graveyard problems in the matchup. Card text check required for exact modes; treat it as flexible interaction only after the rules engine exposes a relevant legal activation or trigger, and avoid it when a one-shot Force of Vigor, Bojuka Bog, or Soul-Guide Lantern better fits the timing.
-
Fire Magic: Bring Fire Magic only after card text check required confirms its damage, target, timing, and legality. Use it as matchup-specific interaction if the rules engine shows it can remove a visible creature, answer a planeswalker or player, or create lethal timing; keep it inactive in sideboard planning when its text is unknown or when Dismember and Firespout already cover the creature role.
-
Role-change rule: Against faster opponents, post-board named cards should buy exactly enough time for Primeval Titan, Green Sun's Zenith, Scapeshift, or Cultivator Colossus to take over. Against slower opponents, post-board named cards should protect Amulet of Vigor, attack hate pieces, preserve land tutors, and avoid diluting the land count that makes the engine function.
Matchup Guidance
-
Aggro decks: Prioritize survival until one Primeval Titan, Green Sun's Zenith for Primeval Titan if legal, Scapeshift, or Cultivator Colossus creates an overwhelming land turn. Keep Arboreal Grazer hands that put a bounce land onto the battlefield, value Spelunking when it converts tapped lands into immediate mana, and use Zuran Orb only when the visible damage race makes life more important than preserving lands. Add role cards: Dismember, Firespout, Elvish Reclaimer, Fire Magic if card text check required confirms relevant removal. Reduce main-deck emphasis: slower Malevolent Rumble value, excess Scapeshift setup, and nonessential The Mycosynth Gardens copying lines.
-
Burn decks: Treat life total as the first combo resource because Summoner's Pact, Primeval Titan attacks, and Zuran Orb lines may stabilize only if the deck survives the next visible attack or spell window. Search for Zuran Orb with Urza's Saga when life gain is legally available and the board does not demand Amulet of Vigor first; avoid unnecessary Dismember life payment unless killing a visible creature prevents more damage than the life spent. Add role cards: Elvish Reclaimer for Zuran Orb or utility land access, Fire Magic only if card text check required shows a defensive use. Reduce main-deck emphasis: slow graveyard/value cards and fragile setup that does not change the next turn cycle.
-
Go-wide creature decks: Make Primeval Titan timing serve stabilization, not just speed, because Hanweir Battlements haste is weaker if the crack-back is lethal. Value Firespout when legal mode text shows it will clear enough visible attackers; protect Arboreal Grazer, Dryad Arbor, and Aftermath Analyst only when they matter to survival or mana. Add role cards: Firespout, Dismember, Fire Magic if confirmed. Reduce main-deck emphasis: Cultivator Colossus and slow Scapeshift hands that do not affect the battlefield soon.
-
Single-threat decks: Use Dismember, Otawara, Soaring City, Boseiju, Who Endures, or Primeval Titan land tutoring to answer or race the one visible threat according to clock math. If the opponent relies on one large creature, planeswalker, or hate permanent, preserve interaction until the threat blocks Titan, threatens lethal, or disables Amulet of Vigor, Urza's Saga, or land tutoring. Add role cards: Dismember, Fire Magic if target text is confirmed, Force of Vigor or Insidious Fungus for artifact/enchantment threats. Reduce main-deck emphasis: redundant acceleration that does not beat the already-visible threat.
-
Control decks: Force commitment only when the hand can pressure through interaction, replay after removal, or make waiting worse. Lead with Urza's Saga, Spelunking, land drops, and Boseiju, Who Endures pressure where legal; do not spend Summoner's Pact into obvious untapped counter mana unless the visible state, Vexing Bauble, redundancy, or lethal pressure justifies the risk. Add role cards: Vexing Bauble, Six, Elvish Reclaimer, Force of Vigor for hate permanents, Icetill Explorer only after card text check required identifies a control role. Reduce main-deck emphasis: Zuran Orb against low-damage control and creature removal that lacks targets.
-
Tempo decks: Sequence so the opponent must answer mana development and threat commitment separately. Favor Arboreal Grazer starts, Spelunking, Urza's Saga pressure, and land-channel interaction that is harder to counter; avoid walking a single Primeval Titan or Summoner's Pact into a turn where a bounce spell plus pressure creates lethal. Add role cards: Dismember for evasive threats or hate creatures, Vexing Bauble against free interaction, Six when games slow down. Reduce main-deck emphasis: slow Scapeshift or Cultivator Colossus lines when the visible clock is short.
-
Midrange decks: Trade resources only to preserve the land engine, because the deck wins by making lands and tutors outscale one-for-one removal. Urza's Saga constructs, The Mycosynth Gardens copying Amulet of Vigor when legal, Green Sun's Zenith, and Primeval Titan are the main pressure points; Aftermath Analyst and Six-style recursion are valuable when graveyards and lands remain accessible. Add role cards: Six, Elvish Reclaimer, Dismember for key creatures, Insidious Fungus when its checked text hits relevant permanents. Reduce main-deck emphasis: narrow Zuran Orb life-gain lines when life is not pressured.
-
Removal-heavy decks: Expect Arboreal Grazer, Dryad Arbor, Aftermath Analyst, Elvish Reclaimer, and Primeval Titan to die, so keep hands where lands and enchantments still function after removal. Do not rely on a single creature to bridge mana unless legal land sequencing already supports the next play; use Urza's Saga and land tutors to present noncreature pressure. Add role cards: Six, Elvish Reclaimer when land tutoring is worth exposure, Vexing Bauble if removal deck also uses free spells. Reduce main-deck emphasis: creature-only acceleration without Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, or bounce-land support.
-
Combo decks: Race first, interact only when the visible combo clock is faster than Primeval Titan or Scapeshift. Vexing Bauble matters against free-spell and cascade-style combo; Boseiju, Who Endures, Otawara, Soaring City, Force of Vigor, Dismember, Soul-Guide Lantern, Bojuka Bog, and Insidious Fungus matter only when their legal text lines up with the opponent’s public engine. Add role cards: Vexing Bauble, Force of Vigor, Dismember, Soul-Guide Lantern, Bojuka Bog, Insidious Fungus. Reduce main-deck emphasis: Zuran Orb and slow grind cards that do not affect the combo turn.
-
Big mana decks: Be the faster Primeval Titan deck unless the visible opponent engine can be disrupted by Boseiju, Who Endures, Force of Vigor, Collector Ouphe, or land pressure. Prioritize Amulet of Vigor plus bounce-land explosiveness, Green Sun's Zenith for Titan access, Summoner's Pact when payment is realistic, and Hanweir Battlements haste when it shortens the clock. Add role cards: Force of Vigor, Collector Ouphe for artifact mana when worth symmetrical cost, Elvish Reclaimer for utility lands. Reduce main-deck emphasis: creature removal unless it hits a required engine creature.
-
Graveyard decks: Decide whether to race or land-tutor hate before spending development mana, because Bojuka Bog or Soul-Guide Lantern can win only if timed before the graveyard payoff resolves. Use Tolaria West, Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, Elvish Reclaimer, or Urza's Saga to access hate when legal; avoid firing graveyard hate into an empty graveyard unless cycling or artifact count matters. Add role cards: Bojuka Bog, Soul-Guide Lantern, Insidious Fungus, Elvish Reclaimer, Six only when its checked text supports your own recursion plan. Reduce main-deck emphasis: Zuran Orb and slow noninteractive setup.
-
Artifact/enchantment decks: Preserve Boseiju, Who Endures and Force of Vigor for permanents that stop Amulet of Vigor, Primeval Titan, Urza's Saga, or land tutoring, not for low-impact artifacts unless they create lethal or a lock. Collector Ouphe is powerful when opposing activated abilities matter more than your own Zuran Orb, Soul-Guide Lantern, Vexing Bauble, or Urza's Saga artifact targets. Add role cards: Force of Vigor, Collector Ouphe, Insidious Fungus, Vexing Bauble when free spells are part of the engine. Reduce main-deck emphasis: slow Scapeshift and Malevolent Rumble lines when a hate permanent must be answered immediately.
Specific Matchup Notes
-
General note: These notes are archetype-only because exact opponents are absent; revealed cards, legal actions, and current board state override every matchup assumption. Treat sideboard guidance as role selection, not an executable plan; exact executable swap lines belong only in Sideboard Map.
-
Fast red, Prowess, and Energy pressure: Prioritize survival into Primeval Titan or Scapeshift over maximum speed when life total is under a short clock. Add role cards: Firespout, Dismember, Fire Magic only after Card text check required confirms its removal role. Priority targets are visible haste threats, prowess-style damage multipliers, and attackers that make Summoner's Pact payment impossible next turn. Reduce main-deck emphasis: Cultivator Colossus, slow Malevolent Rumble, and Zuran Orb only if life gain is not enough to beat the board.
-
Counterspell control and tempo: Prioritize Urza's Saga, Spelunking, Boseiju, Who Endures, Otawara, Soaring City, and land-based pressure because they force interaction on multiple axes. Add role cards: Vexing Bauble, Six, Force of Vigor for hate permanents, Icetill Explorer only after Card text check required confirms its role. Priority targets are counter shields, hate permanents that stop Amulet of Vigor or Green Sun's Zenith, and threats creating a two-turn clock.
-
Artifact, Hammer, Scales, and Saga shells: Prioritize stopping the engine piece that converts artifacts into lethal, not the first visible low-impact artifact. Add role cards: Force of Vigor, Collector Ouphe, Insidious Fungus, Dismember, Vexing Bauble when free interaction is public. Priority targets are equipment, sacrifice engines, Urza's Saga targets, artifact mana, and permanents that block Primeval Titan or disable Amulet of Vigor.
-
Graveyard combo and recursion: Prioritize whether Bojuka Bog or Soul-Guide Lantern must be found before committing a slower Titan line. Add role cards: Bojuka Bog, Soul-Guide Lantern, Elvish Reclaimer, Insidious Fungus, Six only when your own recursion plan matters. Priority targets are the graveyard payoff, the card enabling a reanimation or escape-style turn, and any visible permanent that protects the graveyard.
-
Big mana and mirror-style ramp: Prioritize speed, haste, and tutoring pressure unless the opponent's public engine is vulnerable to Boseiju, Who Endures, Force of Vigor, Collector Ouphe, or Dismember. Add role cards: Force of Vigor, Collector Ouphe, Elvish Reclaimer, Vexing Bauble if free spells are shown. Priority targets are mana engines, Amulet of Vigor, payoff creatures, and lands or artifacts that create a faster deterministic kill.
-
Creature combo and single-threat decks: Prioritize disruption only when the visible combo or threat beats Primeval Titan on timing. Add role cards: Dismember, Firespout, Fire Magic after Card text check required, Collector Ouphe if activated abilities matter, Insidious Fungus if its checked text applies. Priority targets are the creature that starts the combo, the creature that makes combat lethal, or the hate creature blocking land search.
Risk Summary
-
Mana risk: Bounce-land hands are powerful but fragile when the first land drop, Arboreal Grazer, Amulet of Vigor, or Spelunking is missing. Do not keep a hand that cannot produce legal early actions unless the visible mulligan context makes a low-resource hand worse.
-
Matchup risk: Amulet Titan can look faster than it is when the opponent has a visible hate permanent, counterspell posture, or lethal clock. Re-evaluate the role every decision; the deck changes from combo-ramp to survival, disruption, or Saga pressure based on public information.
-
Draw risk: Summoner's Pact is a liability when the next-turn payment is not supported by visible mana, and Cultivator Colossus is a liability when the hand lacks lands or time. Prefer Green Sun's Zenith, Primeval Titan, Urza's Saga, and Spelunking lines that still function after one disruption point.
-
Over-sideboarding risk: Adding too many reactive cards dilutes Amulet of Vigor, bounce lands, Green Sun's Zenith, Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, and Urza's Saga pressure. Use post-board named cards to answer known pressure or hate, not to become a fair midrange deck without a closer.
-
Graveyard risk: Aftermath Analyst, Shifting Woodland, Echoing Deeps, Six, Bojuka Bog, and Soul-Guide Lantern create graveyard incentives, but the deck should not spend early turns on graveyard setup while dying to board pressure. Treat graveyard lines as conditional value or hate unless the legal action text shows an immediate payoff.
-
Sweeper and removal risk: Arboreal Grazer, Dryad Arbor, Aftermath Analyst, Elvish Reclaimer, and Primeval Titan can be removed before they bridge mana or attack. Sequence so lands, Spelunking, Urza's Saga, and The Mycosynth Gardens still leave a functional plan after creature removal.
-
Closer risk: Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, Cultivator Colossus, and Urza's Saga constructs close in different ways, and choosing the wrong closer gives the opponent extra turns. Use Hanweir Battlements haste when it shortens the clock safely; use Zuran Orb defensively only when life total is the bottleneck.
-
Interaction risk: Boseiju, Who Endures, Otawara, Soaring City, Dismember, Force of Vigor, Collector Ouphe, Firespout, Soul-Guide Lantern, Bojuka Bog, Insidious Fungus, and Fire Magic must line up with legal targets and visible threats. If Fire Magic or Icetill Explorer appears in a decision, require Card text check required before treating it as removal, card advantage, or utility.
-
Sequencing risk: Playing lands in the wrong order can lose Amulet of Vigor untaps, Spelunking value, Tolaria West transmute timing, Urza's Saga chapters, Vesuva copying, or The Mycosynth Gardens copying. Before each land play, check whether the action enables Primeval Titan, Green Sun's Zenith, Summoner's Pact payment, Scapeshift math, or a required interaction window.
Test Feedback Checklist
-
Deciding factor: Record whether the game was won or lost by speed, mana stability, Amulet of Vigor access, Spelunking value, Primeval Titan resolution, Scapeshift math, Urza's Saga pressure, or opponent disruption that forced a slower role.
-
Mulligans: Check whether each keep had a legal first two turns, a credible ramp engine, and a route to Primeval Titan, Green Sun's Zenith, Scapeshift, Urza's Saga, or interaction. Flag keeps that relied on drawing an untapped land, Arboreal Grazer target, or payoff without enough visible support.
-
Mana: Track whether bounce lands, Crumbling Vestige, Forest, Dryad Arbor, Tolaria West, Urza's Cave, Boseiju, Who Endures, Otawara, Soaring City, and The Mycosynth Gardens entered in the right order for legal actions. Note every missed Summoner's Pact payment risk and every turn where a land sequence blocked a stronger follow-up.
-
Velocity: Ask whether Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, Arboreal Grazer, Malevolent Rumble, Aftermath Analyst, and Green Sun's Zenith increased speed or merely consumed time. A velocity card underperformed if it did not create mana, selection, board presence, or a faster payoff before pressure mattered.
-
Engine execution: Review Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, Cultivator Colossus, Urza's Saga, Shifting Woodland, Echoing Deeps, Mirrorpool, Vesuva, and Hanweir Battlements decisions for exact payoff value. Mark whether the chosen line shortened the clock, stabilized life total, found interaction, or exposed the deck to avoidable removal.
-
Removal and disruption: Check whether Boseiju, Who Endures, Otawara, Soaring City, Zuran Orb, Dismember, Firespout, Force of Vigor, Collector Ouphe, Bojuka Bog, Soul-Guide Lantern, Insidious Fungus, Vexing Bauble, and Fire Magic lined up with visible threats. For Fire Magic and Icetill Explorer, write Card text check required before assigning success or failure.
-
Sideboard impact: Identify which post-board named cards were drawn, tutored, or stranded, and whether they answered the actual public problem. Flag over-reactive plans that reduced Primeval Titan, Green Sun's Zenith, Scapeshift, Amulet of Vigor, or Urza's Saga pressure without buying enough time.
-
Closing: Ask whether the pilot selected the correct closer for the visible board: Primeval Titan plus haste, Scapeshift burst, Cultivator Colossus land chain, Urza's Saga construct pressure, or defensive Zuran Orb stabilization. Record turns where a slower closer gave the opponent an extra draw step.
-
Role accuracy: Check whether the pilot correctly changed roles between combo-ramp, survival, land-based pressure, and disruption. A role mistake occurred if the pilot chased maximum mana while dying, used interaction while ahead on speed, or kept a fair-game hand without a real closer.
-
Mistakes and stranded cards: List every card stuck in hand because of mana, timing, target legality, graveyard dependency, or opponent hate. Pay special attention to Summoner's Pact, Cultivator Colossus, Scapeshift, Force of Vigor, Firespout, and sideboard one-ofs.
-
Overperformers and underperformers: Name exact cards that changed outcomes, not broad packages. Compare Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, Green Sun's Zenith, Primeval Titan, Urza's Saga, Scapeshift, Malevolent Rumble, Aftermath Analyst, and each post-board named card against the problem they were supposed to solve.
First Tuning Questions
-
Card quantities: If Primeval Titan was not found often enough, should the balance among Primeval Titan, Green Sun's Zenith, and Summoner's Pact change, or were failures caused by mana and sequencing rather than tutor density?
-
Engine density: If hands lacked acceleration, should Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, Arboreal Grazer, Malevolent Rumble, or Aftermath Analyst be adjusted, or did the current mix already create enough speed when lands were sequenced correctly?
-
Mana structure: If games were lost to awkward early mana, should the counts of Forest, Gruul Turf, Simic Growth Chamber, Crumbling Vestige, Urza's Saga, Tolaria West, Urza's Cave, Shifting Woodland, Echoing Deeps, Vesuva, Mirrorpool, or utility lands be reconsidered?
-
Aggro plan: If fast creature decks beat the deck before Primeval Titan or Scapeshift mattered, are Firespout, Dismember, Zuran Orb, Fire Magic after Card text check required, and defensive land lines enough, or does the sideboard need more low-cost survival tools?
-
Control plan: If counterspell decks contained the main payoff too easily, should Vexing Bauble, Six, Urza's Saga pressure, Boseiju, Who Endures, Otawara, Soaring City, and land-based threats receive more emphasis, or did the pilot commit Primeval Titan and Scapeshift into poor windows?
-
Artifact and hate plan: If artifact decks or hate permanents dominated, are Force of Vigor, Collector Ouphe, Insidious Fungus, Boseiju, Who Endures, and Dismember enough, or are too many answers conditional on drawing the right post-board named card?
-
Graveyard plan: If graveyard decks were too fast, should Bojuka Bog, Soul-Guide Lantern, Elvish Reclaimer, Insidious Fungus, and Six be rebalanced, or was the issue failing to tutor or deploy the existing graveyard hate at the correct visible window?
-
Closer mix: If games stalled after ramping, should Cultivator Colossus, Scapeshift, Hanweir Battlements, Mirrorpool, Urza's Saga, and Primeval Titan lines be re-evaluated for closing power, or did the deck simply choose defensive lines too often?
-
Role conflict: If sideboarded games felt unfocused, identify whether reactive cards displaced too much combo velocity. The tuning goal is not more answers by default; it is enough interaction while preserving Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, Green Sun's Zenith, Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, and Urza's Saga as credible threats.
-
Unverified slots: If Icetill Explorer or Fire Magic affected any decision, perform Card text check required before judging the list. Do not tune around assumed text, assumed legality, or unverified role performance.

- Phase windows: Opening hand and London mulligan decisions.
- Runtime cues: action:keep; action:mulligan
- Use when: A mulligan decision is legal and the visible hand plus known London count are available.
- Avoid when: The engine is asking for bottom choices after a keep.
- Instructions: Keep hands with legal early mana, an engine piece or ramp creature, and a visible route to Primeval Titan, Green Sun's Zenith, Summoner's Pact, Scapeshift, or Urza's Saga pressure. Mulligan hands with no castable first action, no bounce-land payoff, or only expensive payoff cards without acceleration.

Policy: London Bottoms
- Priority: Medium
- Decision families: mulligan, selection
- Cards: Forest; Gruul Turf; Simic Growth Chamber; Crumbling Vestige; Amulet of Vigor; Spelunking; Primeval Titan; Summoner's Pact; Cultivator Colossus
- Phase windows: Post-keep London mulligan bottom prompts.

- Avoid when: A visible lethal or survival interaction window overrides setup.
- Instructions: Lead with Amulet of Vigor when bounce lands are present, lead with Arboreal Grazer when it puts an extra land into play, and use Green Sun's Zenith for Dryad Arbor only when that creates a real mana step. Prefer Spelunking over slower development when extra land drops or untapped land entry immediately accelerate.

Policy: Deterministic Zenith For Dryad Arbor
- Priority: Low
- Decision families: selection, mana
- Cards: Green Sun's Zenith; Dryad Arbor
- Phase windows: Early main phase with Green Sun's Zenith on the stack or legal search resolution.
- Runtime cues: action:select Dryad Arbor; action:choose Dryad Arbor; action:find Dryad Arbor
- Use when: The only visible plan is resolving Green Sun's Zenith for X=0 and the legal action text names Dryad Arbor.
- Avoid when: Green Sun's Zenith has X greater than 0 or multiple creature names are legal choices.
- Instructions: Choose Dryad Arbor when the legal action text explicitly offers Dryad Arbor for a Green Sun's Zenith X=0 search.
- Pilot skill floor: Deterministic execution.

Policy: Bounce-Land Mana Construction
- Priority: High
- Decision families: mana
- Cards: Gruul Turf; Simic Growth Chamber; Amulet of Vigor; Spelunking; Crumbling Vestige; Forest; Tolaria West; Hanweir Battlements; Mirrorpool; Vesuva
- Phase windows: Land play, mana payment, and bounce-trigger decisions.
- Runtime cues: action:play Gruul Turf; action:play Simic Growth Chamber; action:return
- Use when: A legal land play, bounce trigger, or mana payment affects current-turn payoff mana.
- Avoid when: Returning a land would remove the only source needed for a required Summoner's Pact payment next upkeep.
- Instructions: Sequence untap effects before bounce-land mana, return lands that can be replayed or copied later, and preserve unique utility lands only when their current role matters. Use Crumbling Vestige color carefully because it may be the only bridge to non-green sideboard or utility actions.
- Pilot skill floor: Strong mana arithmetic.

Policy: Primeval Titan Commitment Gate
- Priority: High
- Decision families: priority, mana, selection
- Cards: Primeval Titan; Summoner's Pact; Green Sun's Zenith; Hanweir Battlements; Vesuva; Mirrorpool; Urza's Saga
- Phase windows: Main phase casting, tutor selection, and attack-trigger resolution.
- Runtime cues: action:cast Primeval Titan; action:cast Summoner's Pact; action:cast Green Sun's Zenith; action:attack Primeval Titan
- Use when: A legal line can put Primeval Titan onto the battlefield or use its trigger.
- Avoid when: Summoner's Pact cannot be paid on the next upkeep from visible mana sources unless winning this turn is visible.
- Instructions: Commit Primeval Titan when it materially advances toward lethal, stabilizes with land utility, or forces the opponent to answer immediately. When searching, prioritize haste or copy lines when lethal pressure is available, and prioritize mana, Urza's Saga, or utility lands when the game will continue.
- Pilot skill floor: High tactical reasoning.

Policy: Scapeshift Commitment Gate
- Priority: High
- Decision families: priority, mana, selection
- Cards: Scapeshift; Gruul Turf; Simic Growth Chamber; Hanweir Battlements; Urza's Saga; Echoing Deeps; Vesuva
- Phase windows: Main phase with Scapeshift legal.
- Runtime cues: action:cast Scapeshift; action:sacrifice
- Use when: Scapeshift is legal and the battlefield contains enough lands to create a decisive mana, threat, or damage line from visible choices.
- Avoid when: The required payoff names are not visible in legal search options, or Card text check required affects the expected damage or land interaction.
- Instructions: Treat Scapeshift as a commitment spell, not routine ramp. Use it only after checking visible land count, opponent clock, available follow-up, and whether waiting produces a stronger Primeval Titan or Urza's Saga line.
- Pilot skill floor: High combo math.
- No-API allowed: no

Policy: Summoner's Pact Risk Gate
- Priority: High
- Decision families: priority, mana, selection
- Cards: Summoner's Pact; Primeval Titan; Cultivator Colossus; Aftermath Analyst; Collector Ouphe; Elvish Reclaimer; Icetill Explorer
- Phase windows: Main phase, opponent end step, and upkeep payment checks.
- Runtime cues: action:cast Summoner's Pact; action:pay Summoner's Pact
- Use when: Summoner's Pact or its upkeep payment is a legal action.
- Avoid when: Visible next-upkeep mana cannot pay the Pact and the current line is not ending the game before that payment.
- Instructions: Use Summoner's Pact for Primeval Titan when the payoff is immediate or protected by mana. Consider sideboard creatures only when their exact role is visible and, for Icetill Explorer, after Card text check required.
- Pilot skill floor: High risk control.
- No-API allowed: no
- Light-model allowed: yes
Policy: Urza's Saga Development
- Priority: Medium
- Decision families: mana, selection, combat
- Cards: Urza's Saga; Amulet of Vigor; Zuran Orb; The Mycosynth Gardens; Vexing Bauble; Soul-Guide Lantern
- Phase windows: Land play, chapter trigger, construct activation, and Saga search.
- Runtime cues: action:play Urza's Saga; action:create Construct; action:search
- Use when: Urza's Saga choices are legal.
- Avoid when: Spending mana on construct activation prevents a visible Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, or required interaction line.
- Instructions: Use Urza's Saga as pressure against slow decks and as a tutor for Amulet of Vigor, Zuran Orb, Vexing Bauble, or Soul-Guide Lantern when that object solves the current public problem. Make constructs when the board race matters and mana remains functional.
- Pilot skill floor: Light board-state reasoning.

Policy: Utility Land Interaction
- Priority: Medium
- Decision families: interaction, priority, mana
- Cards: Boseiju, Who Endures; Otawara, Soaring City; Bojuka Bog; Echoing Deeps; Shifting Woodland; The Mycosynth Gardens; Urza's Cave
- Phase windows: Opponent combo turns, end steps, main phases, and land-search resolution.
- Runtime cues: action:channel Boseiju, Who Endures; action:channel Otawara, Soaring City; action:choose Bojuka Bog
- Use when: A visible permanent, graveyard, or stack-adjacent board state can be answered by a legal utility-land action.
- Avoid when: Using the utility land breaks required mana for a higher-priority payoff or Pact payment.
- Instructions: Use Boseiju, Who Endures on visible hate, artifact engines, enchantments, or nonbasic lands that block the plan. Use Otawara, Soaring City to clear a blocker, hate permanent, or protected threat. Use Bojuka Bog only when graveyard contents matter now.
- Pilot skill floor: Light interaction timing.

Policy: Sideboard Reactive Cards
- Priority: Medium
- Decision families: sideboard, interaction
- Cards: Firespout; Dismember; Vexing Bauble; Collector Ouphe; Six; Bojuka Bog; Icetill Explorer; Force of Vigor; Elvish Reclaimer; Soul-Guide Lantern; Insidious Fungus; Fire Magic
- Phase windows: Sideboarding, opening turns, and live interaction windows after sideboard.
- Runtime cues: action:sideboard; action:cast Dismember; action:cast Force of Vigor; action:cast Vexing Bauble
- Use when: A sideboard decision or sideboard-card action is legal and opponent archetype or visible board explains the role.
- Avoid when: Adding reactive cards removes too much Amulet of Vigor, Spelunking, Green Sun's Zenith, Primeval Titan, Scapeshift, or Urza's Saga pressure.
- Instructions: Bring hate only for public matchup problems: Vexing Bauble for stack-free interaction problems, Collector Ouphe and Force of Vigor for artifacts/enchantments, Bojuka Bog and Soul-Guide Lantern for graveyards, Dismember and Firespout for creatures. Fire Magic and Icetill Explorer require Card text check required before strategic reliance.
- Pilot skill floor: Light matchup reasoning.

Policy: Combat And Lethal Pressure
- Priority: Medium
- Decision families: combat, priority
- Cards: Primeval Titan; Cultivator Colossus; Arboreal Grazer; Dryad Arbor; Urza's Saga; Hanweir Battlements
- Phase windows: Beginning of combat, declare attackers, declare blockers, postcombat main.
- Runtime cues: action:attack; action:block; action:activate Hanweir Battlements
- Use when: Combat actions are legal and visible power, blockers, haste, or construct size affect the race.
- Avoid when: Attacking with Arboreal Grazer or Dryad Arbor removes the only blocker against visible lethal pressure.
- Instructions: Attack with Primeval Titan when the trigger is worth the exposure or lethal pressure is possible. Use constructs and Cultivator Colossus to force trades when the opponent cannot race. Keep small mana creatures back when survival is the limiting resource.
- Pilot skill floor: Light combat reasoning.
- No-API allowed: no

Policy: Emergency Stabilization
- Priority: High
- Decision families: interaction, combat, mana
- Cards: Zuran Orb; Firespout; Dismember; Force of Vigor; Boseiju, Who Endures; Otawara, Soaring City; Arboreal Grazer
- Phase windows: Opponent combat, own main phase before dying, end step before lethal.
- Runtime cues: action:activate Zuran Orb; action:cast Firespout; action:cast Dismember; action:cast Force of Vigor
- Use when: Visible opponent damage or permanent-based combo threatens lethal before the next payoff turn.
- Avoid when: The current turn has a visible deterministic win that does not require the emergency action.
- Instructions: Prioritize survival over ramp when the opponent can kill before Primeval Titan or Scapeshift matters. Sacrifice lands to Zuran Orb only for life thresholds that change survival or buy the needed payoff turn.
- Pilot skill floor: High survival math.
