Hermes auto-triage classified incident soteria/1244 as toolchain_prep_apt_package_not_found (confidence 0.75); first failed gate: Prep toolchain.

Why a human is needed

The build failed in the 'Prep toolchain' stage, before any tests or quality checks ran. The only concrete failure text in the console is 'E: Unable to locate package ripgrep' — apt-get tried to install the ripgrep package and the configured apt sources for the build's container image (registry.bstein.dev/bstein/quality-tools:sonar8.0.1-trivy0.70.0-db20260422-arm64) didn't have it. Everything after that (SonarQube evidence collection, quality gate, test metrics, version compute, buildx setup, build & push image) was skipped as a direct consequence, and the pipeline ultimately exited with code 100. There is no indication of a test or source-code defect — the build never got far enough to run tests. A fix would mean looking at whatever script or stage definition performs the toolchain package installation (likely inside the Jenkinsfile's 'Prep toolchain' stage or the quality-tools image's own Dockerfile) and figuring out why 'ripgrep' can't be located — common causes are a missing 'apt-get update' before the install, a required repository component not being enabled in that image, or the package simply not existing under that name/architecture in the image's current apt sources. I don't have that script or Dockerfile in this evidence bundle, so I can't point to the exact line to change; whoever maintains the quality-tools image or the Jenkinsfile's toolchain-prep step needs to check it directly.

Ariadne did not authorize automated remediation: human_required.

Facts

  • jenkins — Jenkins build soteria #1244 (https://ci.bstein.dev/job/soteria/1244/) recorded its first_failed_stage as 'Prep toolchain', before any test, SonarQube, or quality-gate stage ran. (jenkins.first_failed_stage)
  • jenkins — The console excerpt nearest the first failure point (around line 224) shows 'E: Unable to locate package ripgrep', immediately followed by 'Collect SonarQube and supply-chain evidence', 'Run quality gate', 'Publish test metrics', 'Enforce quality gate', 'Compute version', and 'Buildx setup' all b... (console_failures[2] (marker 'SonarQube', line_number 224))
  • jenkins — The build ended with 'ERROR: script returned exit code 100' and overall result FAILURE; the console_tail and the final console_failures entry (line 293) show only this terminal exit-code propagation and the 'Build & push image' stage being skipped, with no new failure content. (console_failures[3] (marker 'ERROR:', line_number 293) / console_tail)
  • jenkins — jenkins.failed_tests is an empty array, so this build did not publish any structured test results. (jenkins.failed_tests)
  • jenkins — The two console_failures entries matched by markers 'Trivy' (line 95) and the first 'SonarQube' hit (line 177) are pod-template YAML and checkout/credential-masking log lines, not failure content — they matched only because those keywords happen to appear in an image tag and a credential name. (console_failures[0] and console_failures[1])
  • opensearch — Supplementary log correlation for this incident window could not be retrieved: the query failed with 'opensearch request failed: [Errno 111] Connection refused'. (log_evidence.error)

Evidence

Inferences

  • The build never reached test execution, SonarQube analysis, or the quality gate — toolchain preparation failed first, so this is not evidence of a test regression or a code-quality/coverage finding.
  • The 'E: Unable to locate package ripgrep' message indicates an apt-get install step in the Prep toolchain stage could not resolve that package from the apt sources configured in the build's container image; this is consistent with a stale/missing package index (no apt-get update run), a disabled ...
  • The exit code 100 and the long list of skipped downstream stages are a direct, mechanical consequence of the Prep toolchain failure, not an independent problem.
