Hermes auto-triage classified incident metis/383 as transient_infra_failure (confidence 0.93); first failed gate: scm_checkout.

Why a human is needed

The build never started running any pipeline stage: Jenkins could not fetch the Jenkinsfile because the Gitea host at scm.bstein.dev answered the git fetch with HTTP 500, and the checkout was aborted after exhausting retries. This is a server-side failure of the git host, unrelated to the metis source or tests, so the fix is simply to re-run the build once Gitea is healthy; if the 500 recurs across builds, investigate the Gitea service itself rather than this repository.

Ariadne did not authorize automated remediation: evidence_signature_missing.

Facts

  • jenkins — Jenkins build metis #383 was started by timer at 2026-09-28T01:19:00Z and finished FAILURE after 16.2 seconds. (https://ci.bstein.dev/job/metis/383/ (timestamps.start, timestamps.end, result))
  • jenkins — The build failed while fetching the Jenkinsfile from Gitea: 'git fetch --tags --force --progress -- https://scm.bstein.dev/titan/metis.git' exited 128 with stderr 'fatal: unable to access https://scm.bstein.dev/titan/metis.git/: The requested URL returned error: 500'. (console_failures[0] at line 13 and console_tail of build metis/383)
  • jenkins — Jenkins retried the checkout until 'Maximum checkout retry attempts reached, aborting'; no pipeline stage ever ran (first_failed_stage is null) and no test results were published (failed_tests is empty). (console_tail, jenkins.first_failed_stage, jenkins.failed_tests of build metis/383)
  • opensearch — OpenSearch log correlation for the incident window 01:14:00Z-01:24:16Z returned no records because the OpenSearch request itself failed with connection refused. (log_evidence.error: 'opensearch request failed: [Errno 111] Connection refused')

Inferences

  • The HTTP 500 came from the Gitea server side (scm.bstein.dev), not from anything in the metis repository: the build died before the Jenkinsfile was even read, so no code, test, or pipeline definition in the repo could have influenced the outcome.
  • Because the failure is a server-side error on the SCM host rather than a bad commit, re-running the same build against the same commit should succeed once Gitea is answering normally; no change to the metis repository is needed.
  • If subsequent builds show the same 500, the problem is a persistent Gitea outage or misbehavior (for example database or storage trouble behind it) and the fix belongs on the Gitea deployment, not in metis.
  • The OpenSearch connection refusal is a gap in corroborating log evidence, not evidence about this build; the Jenkins console alone is decisive here.
