Hermes auto-triage classified incident ananke/361 as transient_infra_failure (confidence 0.95); first failed gate: scm_checkout (failed before any quality gate ran).

Why a human is needed

Build 361 never ran any of ananke's pipeline: the initial 'git fetch' of the Jenkinsfile checkout from scm.bstein.dev returned HTTP 500 and Jenkins aborted after exhausting its checkout retries. Authentication had already succeeded, so this is a server-side failure of the Gitea host at that moment, not a defect in the ananke repository. The remediation is to re-run the build against the same commit once Gitea is responding; no code or configuration change to ananke is needed. If 500s from scm.bstein.dev appear in other builds around the same time, the Gitea service itself should be investigated.

Ariadne did not authorize automated remediation: evidence_signature_missing.

Facts

  • jenkins — Build ananke #361 failed in 32 seconds during the initial Jenkinsfile checkout: 'git fetch' from https://scm.bstein.dev/titan/ananke.git returned status code 128 with 'fatal: unable to access ... The requested URL returned error: 500'. (https://ci.bstein.dev/job/ananke/361/ console, first failure region at line 13)
  • jenkins — Jenkins retried the checkout and aborted with 'Maximum checkout retry attempts reached'; the build never got past SCM checkout, so no pipeline stages ran (first_failed_stage is null) and no test results were published (failed_tests is empty). (jenkins.console_tail and jenkins.first_failed_stage/failed_tests in the Ariadne bundle for ananke/361)
  • jenkins — The credential lookup itself succeeded ('using GIT_ASKPASS to set credentials Gitea PAT for pipelines') before the fetch failed, and the error is an HTTP 500 from the server, not a 401/403. (https://ci.bstein.dev/job/ananke/361/ console)
  • opensearch — No OpenSearch log records are available for the incident window; the bundle's log query failed with 'opensearch request failed: [Errno 111] Connection refused'. (log_evidence.error in the Ariadne bundle for ananke/361)

Inferences

  • The HTTP 500 is a server-side error from the Gitea instance at scm.bstein.dev, not a problem in the ananke repository: the build failed before any of the repo's code, Jenkinsfile stages, or tests executed, so nothing in the ananke source can have caused it.
  • Because authentication succeeded and the failure is a 5xx rather than a 4xx, this is most likely a transient Gitea outage or overload at 12:35-12:36 UTC rather than a credential or URL misconfiguration; re-running the same commit once Gitea is healthy should succeed with no repository change.
  • The OpenSearch connection refusal means centralized logs for the window could not be checked, so the Gitea-side cause (restart, resource pressure, upstream database issue) is unconfirmed; if 500s from scm.bstein.dev recur across builds, the fix belongs in the Gitea deployment, not in ananke.
