Hermes auto-triage classified incident bstein-dev-home/568 as transient_infra_failure (confidence 0.93); first failed gate: Declarative: Checkout SCM.

Why a human is needed

The build failed before any code was built or tested: during SCM checkout, git could not fetch https://scm.bstein.dev/bstein/bstein-dev-home.git because the server returned HTTP 500, and Jenkins aborted after exhausting its checkout retries. Every later error in the log (the missing-FilePath archiveArtifacts failure, 'Build complete for null') is fallout from the workspace never being populated. Nothing in the repository needs to change; the fix is to re-run the build against the same commit once the Gitea host is responding normally, and to look at the Gitea service itself if subsequent builds also receive 500 responses.

Ariadne did not authorize automated remediation: evidence_signature_missing.

Facts

  • jenkins — Build 568 of job bstein-dev-home finished FAILURE after 117.9 seconds, and the first failed stage was 'Declarative: Checkout SCM'. (jenkins.result, jenkins.first_failed_stage, https://ci.bstein.dev/job/bstein-dev-home/568/)
  • jenkins — The checkout failed because 'git fetch --tags --force --progress -- https://scm.bstein.dev/bstein/bstein-dev-home.git' returned status code 128 with stderr 'fatal: unable to access ... The requested URL returned error: 500'. (jenkins.console_failures[1] (marker 'ERROR:', line 210))
  • jenkins — Jenkins retried the checkout and aborted with 'ERROR: Maximum checkout retry attempts reached, aborting'; no build, test, or quality-gate stage ran after checkout. (jenkins.console_tail)
  • jenkins — No structured test results were published: jenkins.failed_tests is empty. (jenkins.failed_tests)
  • jenkins — The post-action 'archiveArtifacts' failed with MissingContextVariableException (Required context class hudson.FilePath is missing), after the checkout had already failed. (jenkins.console_tail)
  • opensearch — OpenSearch log correlation for the incident window was unavailable: 'opensearch request failed: [Errno 111] Connection refused'. (log_evidence.error)

Inferences

  • The Gitea server at scm.bstein.dev answered the clone with an HTTP 500, a server-side error, so the failure originated in the SCM service rather than in this repository's code, tests, or Jenkinsfile; the build never obtained a workspace with source in it.
  • The MissingContextVariableException in the post actions is downstream noise: archiveArtifacts had no workspace (hudson.FilePath) because the checkout never completed, so it is a consequence of the checkout failure, not an independent problem.
  • Re-running the same commit should succeed once scm.bstein.dev is serving requests normally again; if fresh builds keep hitting 500s, the Gitea deployment itself (its pod health, database, or storage) needs investigation rather than anything in this repository.
