Hermes auto-triage classified incident bstein-dev-home/554 as transient_infra_failure (confidence 0.92); first failed gate: Checkout.

Why a human is needed

Build 554 never got past pulling the source. Jenkins ran 'git fetch' against https://scm.bstein.dev/bstein/bstein-dev-home.git and the Gitea server answered with an HTTP 500, which Jenkins surfaced as 'fatal: unable to access ... The requested URL returned error: 500'. Jenkins retried the checkout on its own and gave up once it hit its retry limit ('Maximum checkout retry attempts reached, aborting'), which is why every stage after Checkout — SonarQube and supply-chain evidence collection, toolchain prep, frontend/backend tests, quality-gate enforcement, and the image build/push — shows as skipped: none of that code ever ran, so this tells you nothing about the state of the tests or the app itself. There's no sign of a bad commit, bad credentials, or a broken pipeline definition here — the failure happened purely at the transport/server level talking to Gitea. Worth checking whether Gitea (or whatever sits in front of it, e.g. a reverse proxy or load balancer) had a rough patch around 2026-09-26 21:26-21:34 UTC — its own service logs, CPU/memory, or database connection pool around that window would confirm it. If this was a one-off blip, simply re-running the build once Gitea is healthy again should get you a clean run; if 500s from scm.bstein.dev show up on other jobs in the same window, that points to a real Gitea-side incident rather than one build being unlucky.

Ariadne did not authorize automated remediation: evidence_signature_missing.

Facts

  • jenkins — The build's first failed stage was 'Checkout'. (jenkins.first_failed_stage)
  • jenkins — The 'git fetch' from https://scm.bstein.dev/bstein/bstein-dev-home.git failed with git exit status 128 and stderr: "fatal: unable to access 'https://scm.bstein.dev/bstein/bstein-dev-home.git/': The requested URL returned error: 500". (console_failures[1], line_number 331)
  • jenkins — Jenkins reported 'Maximum checkout retry attempts reached, aborting' immediately after the fetch failure. (console_failures[2], line_number 386)
  • jenkins — All later stages (Collect SonarQube evidence, Collect Supply Chain evidence, Prep toolchain, Frontend tests, Run quality gate, Refresh SonarQube evidence, Publish test metrics, Enforce quality gate, Build & push frontend, Build & push backend) were skipped due to the earlier failure. (console_failures[2], console_failures[3], console_tail)
  • jenkins — No structured test results were published for this build. (jenkins.failed_tests (empty array))
  • jenkins — The build ended with result FAILURE and the final console line 'ERROR: Error fetching remote repo 'origin'' repeated at the end of the pipeline. (console_tail)
  • opensearch — Log correlation from OpenSearch was unavailable for this incident window because the OpenSearch request failed with 'Connection refused'. (log_evidence.error)

Inferences

  • The HTTP 500 came back from the SCM host itself (scm.bstein.dev / Gitea) while Jenkins was trying to fetch, not from a bad credential, a bad branch reference, or a problem with the repository contents — the pipeline never got far enough to read any source, so nothing about this repo's code, tests...
  • Because checkout failed first, every quality-gate and build stage after it was skipped as a direct, mechanical consequence — their absence is not separate evidence of additional problems.
  • The missing OpenSearch evidence is a gap in the triage tooling for this run, not a symptom of the application failure; it doesn't change the diagnosis, it just means there's no secondary log corroboration for the Gitea-side error.
